Kitchen Connection At the center of the home, the kitchen continues the theme of natural colors and textures, as well as globally-inspired design. The counters are a favorite of the design team. Finished in a leathered texture, the natural quartzite has also been applied to the window wall behind the natural gas range for a dramatic design effect. All the slabs have been mitered and book-matched so the veins are perfectly conjoined. Lower cabinets are finished in a natural, warm grey tone while upper cabinets have a dark, espresso finish with glass doors covering the lit display shelves. Over the large island, well-sized pendant lights help to fill in the space between the ceiling and counter, as well as provide light to the prep area.

Entertaining Central A wet bar located in the dining room functions as a drink center and a buffet for storage and serving. Plenty of glass-fronted, backlit shelves house glasses, while cabinets hide dishes and other necessities. The solid wood table is an almost ebony color and is surrounded by linen-clad chairs. The frames of the chairs are slim, which helps to balance the weight of the table which can seat ten comfortably.

Organic Retreat Large windows frame the pool and Lake Como, and a comfortable sitting area takes full advantage of the sun and view. Ged and Thompson chose darker furniture in a true ebony, finished with hammered metal hardware for a little shine. The furniture grounds the light and airy space and complements the soft grey tones used throughout. The color of the wood floors and the patterns used in the room, like the one on the area rug, reinforce the global theme. Above, a reverse soffit has been added along with a fun, multidimensional light.

Outdoor Life A shellstone floor, similar to the one in the master bathroom, sets the stage for the rest of the finishes in the large outdoor space. A tough stone that works well indoors and out, shellstone can match a myriad of design styles. Just off the home’s indoor dining room, the outdoor dining area is placed where the large, corner pocketing glass doors open for a seamless entertaining experience. A table for eight is surrounded by woven back chairs that are outdoor-friendly for easy maintenance. Light fabrics complement the colors inside. The outdoor kitchen features a waterfall edge island with LED lighting and granite countertops. Ged and Thompson chose one tile and used it to cover the hood and wall of the outdoor kitchen, creating a sleek and clean look. A stained wood tongue and groove ceiling brings in warmth. Contemporary Welcome The home’s exterior received new landscaping to create a look that better suits the inside of the home and the Siegals’ personal tastes, thanks to Jeff Edwards, the founder, owner, and lead designer at Bloomwater. “As you approach the home, Bonnie wanted the landscaping to better reflect the design inside,” says Edwards. “I came up with a plan that is cohesive with clean and contemporary lines. This lends a less tropical and more modern feel to the home’s exterior.” This look is achieved through the vegitation Edwards chose as well as custom planters that feature a mix of cement and metal that contrasts with the natural landscape. An inlay of artificial turf in the driveway also makes the beds appear larger and more substantial than they originally were for a high-end look. Topiary gives height and balance but has been sculpted in a more modern, square shape.

Change in real estate is a constant for many residents, including the owners of this single family home in North Naples. After a few years of visiting seasonally, the Siegals we ready to

spend more time in the area and felt they were ready to upgrade to a larger home, one that would fit their growing family as children marry and grandchildren are added to the family. They loved the location of their original Naples home, in Tiburón, and wanted to find a new one close by to keep them near the many friends they had made in the community. Luckily, through a

Elegant entry One of the biggest changes in the entry is the decorative wall Jacque Lindstrom designed. “There was a skinny, somewhat awkward wall here so I wanted to create a visual piece that gave the formal dining room a little separation while also adding something to the home,” says Lindstrom. The focal point of the entryway, and the home as a whole, is it’s unique lighting elements chosen by Siegal. The beautiful John Richard chandelier features gold branches dripping with glass leaves and is complemented by the gold painted tray ceiling. “The color is really fabulous and is completely custom,” says both Lindstrom and Siegal. “It took quite a while to get that color correct and it was a process to create the layers that make the tone so unique.” On the wall, a photo taken by Siegal’s husband, an avid photographer, adds a pop of color and a personal touch to the home.

few fortuitous events, they were able to purchase a lot in an adjacent community that backs up to Tiburón on the other side of a private preserve. Homeowner Bonnie Siegal says, “The lot is one of the biggest in the community. It’s over half an acre so we knew when we purchased it we wanted to create an outside area that took advantage of all the space the lot provides.” During the building process, the Siegals were unable to see a model, so they built the home “sight unseen” so to speak, going off of plans, small samples, and their imagination. When it was finished, they were happy with the neighborhood and the home’s layout (for the most part), but felt that the finishes weren’t up to their standard or those found in their other residence. “We talked about a variety of different options but ultimately decided to renovate our newly completed home,” says Siegal.

That led them to their second renovation in about as many years. Partnering with friend and designer Jacque Lindstrom, owner and lead designer at LS Lindstrom LLC, and Wayne Wisher from Silver Dollar Construction, they set out to create a customized home that perfectly reflects the Siegals’ personal style. “Jacque and I had recently worked together on our home up North and I enjoyed working with her through that process,” explains Siegal. “I knew I wanted her help with my Florida home. Also, with that last project still fresh in my mind, I was able to take what I had learned about renovation and apply it to this new project.” The end result is a contemporary glamorous space that represents the owner’s style and personality.

Exquisite Dining The dining room is bright and open with neutral colors complemented by blue and gold. The large table features a sturdy base of polished gold topped with glass to keep the room open and modern. Throughout the home, Siegal sourced the accessories, like the cobalt blue bowls that top the table. Above, a second John Richard chandelier references the one in the entry while offering a different take on the natural, yet glamorous mix of gold and glass. “The photos here were also taken by my husband, as are most of the photos throughout the house,” says Siegal. “He’s a retired surgeon who has always loved photography and we both wanted to feature his work in our new home to personalize the space. It also helps us create a more contemporary feel in our Naples home, which was something we really wanted as we worked with Jacque.”

The Inspired Chef After removing the original cabinets, fixtures, and appliances, Lindstrom was able to start with a blank slate to create a kitchen filled with high-end finishes and a design that is functional as well as beautiful. She says, “Functionality is a hallmark of my kitchen design. I always create spaces that are both workable and beautiful, so this kitchen is no exception.” The island was reworked to help with the flow and was designed to be a more visually pleasing piece. Topped with thick Cristallo quartzite, it has a weight to it that anchors the kitchen. A unique enameled steel hood with polished brass accents is flanked by custom cabinets designed by Lindstrom. Above the island, Lindstrom selected pendants that fill the airspace creating a dramatic effect. “The light in the kitchen needed to work with the beautiful custom hood while not fighting with the other great selections in the home,” says Lindstrom. Sub Zero and Wolf appliances complete this chef-inspired kitchen.

Personal Perfection “The Siegals wanted to create a home that reflected their impeccable personal style while also offering their family a place to gather,” says Lindstrom. The great room features a large sectional covered with comfortable, custom pillows, and two elegant Italian leather chairs with swooping lines. Behind the TV, the focal wall has been covered in a textured, navy blue wallpaper that is extended behind the lit, built-in shelves which helps the beautiful accessories pop. “The TV stand, from FreeMarc, is a great example of how elements in the home that weren’t fully ‘custom’ were customized to fit the tastes of the homeowners,” Lindstrom explains. “The original top and legs were too dark and so I had them replaced so they perfectly match the silver of the doors for a more cohesive look.” The large chandelier in the room continues the home’s theme of amazing lighting. “Bonnie approaches design with intelligence and a great sense of personal style, so as she chose things for the home, especially the lighting, my only job was to make sure they fit the scale of the room. Many times homeowners, or even designers, will pick lighting that’s too small for the space. I was there to advise her on dimensions as she made her selections but I loved the lighting she was choosing so I was more than happy to sign off on her selections!”

Masterful Respite In the master bedroom, the furniture by Baker caused a bit of a delay. “We were ordering so many things during the height of the pandemic that we experienced some hold ups that no one could have predicted,” Siegal explains. While the dresser and side tables were finished and ready to be delivered, the hardware was held up for months. Once they arrived however, they worked perfectly with the soft blue, padded headboard and the subtle sunburst wallpaper. Custom bedding from Clive Daniel and a beautiful silk rug add luxurious texture to the room. On the ceiling, a custom blue paint, created to complement the headboard and armchair, ties the room together.

Spa Style The master bathroom went through the biggest transformation as the entire layout was reworked and the room taken down to the studs to accomplish the redesign. “We just were not a fan of the original plans on paper, and once we got into the home it was not at all what we wanted to live with long term,” says Siegal. The shower, which had a more industrial scale, was moved to its current location and brought down to a more appropriate residential bathroom size. A new, seamless shower door and the zero edge shower stall add to the high-end feel of the space. The small tub was replaced by a beautiful one from Victoria + Albert which is an improvement in both design and scale. A new vanity was placed under the three windows and Lindstrom added beautiful millwork to tie the mirrors and the windows together for a custom touch. Thick marble counters offer a great workspace and the plethora of drawers and cabinets provide plenty of storage for the couple. Marble and porcelain tiles were used on the floor and in the shower to create a clean, spa-like bathroom.

Outdoor Entertainment “The size and shape of the lot gave us room to do something interesting outside, but the open areas are on the side of the home,” says Siegal. With those open spaces, landscape designer Jeff Edwards took one of the family’s fun activities, golf, and brought it home. A four hole putting green was added so the Siegals could enjoy time together, practice their putting, and entertain friends with ease. Marble pavers lead to a seating area that doubles as a dance floor for parties. Shrubs and hedges were added around the putting green and sitting area for privacy, something the Siegals made sure Edwards included in his designs.

Aquatic Oasis The outdoor living areas of the home shine thanks to thoughtfully designed seating areas and beautiful landscaping. Siegal and her husband made a trip to Restoration Hardware to customize the outdoor furniture. Ceiling fans were swapped for a more design-forward look and now match the stained wood ceilings. The outdoor kitchen was customized to create a better cooking experience, thanks to the Outdoor Kitchen Place. Siegal added two burners next to the grill so they could also cook outside (not just grill) and the cabinets were refinished to create a more weather-proof exterior. ClearView screens keep the view of the preserve behind the home open and landscaping touches around the pool, along with water features, finish the welcoming lanai.

2 tablespoons tomato paste Preheat the oven to 350°F with a rack in the center position. In a braiser or Dutch oven, add the bacon and cook over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, or until crispy. Using tongs, transfer the bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate. Reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon fat, discard the rest. Season chicken all over with salt. Add the chicken to the pot and cook over medium heat until browned, about 5 minutes. Work in batches to ensure even browning. Transfer browned chicken to a plate. To the same pot, add the garlic, shallots, thyme, bay leaf, tomato paste, and cooked bacon. Cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Return chicken to the pot, skin-sides up. Nestle the carrots around the chicken and pour in the chicken stock and wine. Bring to a simmer, then cover and transfer to the oven. Braise for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with flour and stir in ¼ cup braising liquid. Pour mixture into the sauce and gently stir to combine. Add the mushrooms to the pot, cover and cook over medium heat for about another 10 minutes, or until the chicken registers 165°F on an instant read thermometer. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Easy Pot de Creme MAKES: 6 Servings

1 cup heavy cream 1 cup whole milk 5 large egg yolks 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

½ teaspoon espresso powder (optional) ¼ teaspoon kosher salt Chopped hazelnuts for garnish

Add the heavy cream and milk to a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk occasionally until it just starts to simmer with bubbles along the edges, then remove from the heat. Whisk the egg yolks in a medium bowl. While continuously whisking, very slowly pour half of the hot cream mixture into the bowl. Don’t pour too fast or the eggs will curdle. Return the tempered egg mixture to the saucepan and stir together over medium-low heat for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the custard is slightly thickened. Turn off the heat. Add the chopped chocolate, espresso powder (if using), and salt to the custard. Let the chocolate melt for a minute, then whisk until it’s completely smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a separate bowl (or measuring bowl with a pour spout), to remove any clumps and bubbles. Pour the custard into six 4-ounce ramekins and refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours. When ready to serve, let the pots de crème stand at room temperature for 15 minutes, to soften slightly. Garnish with hazelnuts, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, raspberries - the choice is yours!

Ratatouille MAKES: 8 Servings VEGGIES

SAUCE

2 eggplants

2 tablespoons olive oil

6 roma tomatoes

1 medium white onion, diced

2 yellow squashes

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 zucchinis

1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced

Herb Seasoning 2 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh basil 1 teaspoon minced garlic 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves kosher salt, to taste

1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and diced kosher salt, to taste freshly ground black pepper, to taste 28 oz crushed tomatoes 2 tablespoons thinly sliced fresh basil

freshly ground black pepper, to taste 4 tablespoons olive oil Preheat the oven for 375˚F. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline, slice the eggplant, tomatoes, squash, and zucchini into approximately ¹⁄₁₆-inch (1-mm)-thick rounds, then set aside. Make the sauce: Heat the olive oil in a 12-inch (30-cm) oven-safe pan over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion, garlic, and bell peppers until soft, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then add the crushed tomatoes. Stir until the ingredients are fully incorporated. Remove from heat, then add the basil. Stir once more, then smooth the surface of the sauce with a spatula. Arrange the veggies in alternating slices, (for example, eggplant, tomato, squash, zucchini) on top of the sauce, working from the outer edge to the center of the pan. Season with salt and pepper. Make the herb seasoning: In a small bowl, mix together the basil, garlic, parsley, thyme, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Spoon the herb seasoning over the vegetables. Cover the pan with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover, then bake for another 20 minutes, until the vegetables are softened. Serve hot as a main dish or side. The ratatouille is also excellent the next day–cover with foil and reheat in a 350˚F oven for 15 minutes, or simply microwave to desired temperature.

Tomato Galette MAKES: 4 Servings 4 servings 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 2¼ tsp. kosher salt, divided ¾ cup (1½ sticks) chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar 1½ lb. heirloom tomatoes, sliced ¼” thick 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced 4 oz. firm cheese (such as Asiago, cheddar, or Gouda), finely grated (about 1½ cups) 1 large egg, beaten to blend Flaky sea salt Freshly ground black pepper ½ lemon 1 Tbsp. finely chopped chives Pulse 2 cups of flour and 1¼ tsps. of kosher salt in a food processor to combine. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal with a few pea-size pieces of butter remaining. Transfer mixture to a large bowl and drizzle with vinegar and ¼ cup ice water. Mix with a fork, adding more ice water by the tablespoonful as needed, just until a shaggy dough comes together. Turn out onto a work surface and lightly knead until no dry spots remain (be careful not to overwork). Pat into a disk and wrap in plastic. Chill for at least 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 400°. Gently toss tomatoes, garlic, and remaining 1 tsp. kosher salt in a large bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes (tomatoes will start releasing some liquid). Drain tomato mixture and transfer to paper towels. Unwrap dough and roll out on a lightly floured sheet of parchment paper to a 14” round about ⅛” thick. Transfer on parchment to a baking sheet. Scatter cheese over dough, leaving a 1½” border. Arrange tomatoes and garlic over cheese. Bring edges of dough up and over filling, overlapping as needed to create about a 1½” border; brush dough with egg. Sprinkle tomatoes with sea salt and pepper. Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes. Bake galette, rotating once, until crust is golden brown and cooked through, 55–65 minutes. Let cool slightly on a baking sheet. Finely grate zest from lemon over galette; sprinkle with chives.

Haricots Verts Amandine MAKES: 6-8 Servings

2 lbs Green beans or Haricots verts, trimmed

4 garlic cloves, peeled and finely minced

4 tbsp butter, unsalted

1 lemon, zested and juiced

½ cups sliced almonds

Salt, to taste

3 medium shallots, peeled and finely sliced

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and season with salt generously. Add the green beans and blanch for 4-5 minutes until crisp-tender. They should be slightly undercooked and squeaky between your teeth. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a large fry pan over medium-low heat. Once melted, the butter will start to simmer and foam. This should take about 3 minutes. Eventually the butter will stop foaming. Keep a close eye on it and watch for golden specks to form at the bottom of the pan. Smell the butter for nutty aromas. This should take about 3-4 minutes. Immediately add the toasted almonds and turn the heat to low. Toast the almonds, stirring occasionally, until golden, for about 2-3 minutes. Add shallots and garlic, and saute for 2 more minutes, until shallot is soft and fragrant. Using a large slotted spoon or kitchen tongs, transfer the par-cooked green beans directly from the boiling water to the fry pan. Toss them gently until glossy and evenly coated with Almondine garnish. Add lemon zest and juice, and toss again. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve.
