Cornbury House Horse Trials in Oxfordshire (610 September) takes eventing to a new level.

With the stunning backdrops of both Cornbury House and the ancient Wychwood Forest, founder David Howden has spared nothing to make this gem of an event into the most desirable fixture in the sporting - and social - calendars. The 2023 event builds on this in every way. Cornbury promises an unprecedented boutique experience for visitors, where the world of top-class equestrian sport combines with a woodland festival feel.

The eventing action takes centre stage - this year the British Eventing National Young Horse Championships will be held at Cornbury alongside international FEI and national classes, attracting all of the UK’s top riders. There are also The Howden Way Youth classes for under-21 riders; David Howden’s passion for encouraging young talent means that Cornbury will showcase the most exciting future stars of eventing in equine and human form.

But new for 2023 is a celebration of all things food and drink with the introduction of “Field Food”, offering a showcase of delicious locally-produced artisan options for attendees to enjoy. This will include open Asados (Argentinian barbecue food), a range of offerings from local farms along with local ales to enjoy from the new on-site public bar, the aptly named “Wychwood Inn”, and handpicked artisanal produce.

Immersive woodland kids activities will be on offer over the weekend along with some “apres” style entertainment featuring live music after the competition has finished. This is eventing in style, with high-end hospitality available, and the very best possible conditions for horses and riders to perform at their very best. Olympic gold medallist Laura Collett said: “Cornbury is amazing - the organisers provide horses, owners and riders with fantastic facilities, courses and ground. I’m really excited to see what’s new this year - I love the sound of the woodland festival feel, and it is great to see innovation coming to our sport.”
