Hamlet
For lovers of sixties music, this is the ultimate, and probably never to be repeated, line-up. The Searchers’ first single went to No. 1 and led to five more Top 5 hits and a total of 128 weeks in the charts. Brian Poole & The Tremeloes, the band that broke the Liverpool stranglehold and went on to have 21 hits that spent over 220 weeks in the UK charts. Controversial, ponytailed P.J. Proby, whose trouser splitting shocked the nation, was a Melody Maker teen idol award winner in 1964 and spent 91 weeks in the charts.

In this imaginative and loving adaptation by Joannah Tincey, two actors bring to life Austen’s words with great skill and agility. Joannah Tincey says: “I wanted to create an adaptation where the characters talk to the audience in the same way that Austen talks to her reader. By addressing the audience directly and allowing the characters to speak for themselves, we are bringing Jane Austen’s unique and witty writing style to life in a truly theatrical context.”

The Collector By Henry Naylor
Mazrat Prison, Iraq. Previously one of Saddam’s most notorious torture houses, where more than 10,000 people died, it is now under Allied command. Nassir works here, translating for the American interrogators. He’s local, pro-Western, determined to bring liberal values to his country and is about to get married to Zoya, his sweetheart. But when he is recognised by Faisal, new prisoner and psychotic supporter of the old regime, his life becomes a living hell. Born out of Henry Naylor’s own experiences of a visit to Bagram Airbase in 2003, The Collector is a compelling tale of murder, evil and betrayal set in occupied Iraq. One of the most highly-acclaimed shows at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival, it won a prestigious Scotsman Fringe First Award, which was followed by a sold-out run at London’s Arcola Theatre.
The Royal British Legion leads a Festival of Remembrance with the Band of the Grenadier Guards and the Parade of Service Representatives and Standards. He also wonders, if, generally speaking, people are competent. Luckily in his case this doesn’t matter as either he’s funny or he lives up to a national stereotype. It’s a win-win situation.

Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band
Jim Davidson – 40 Years On
Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band can’t contain their infectious joy and loving irreverence onstage in a live show, already the stuff of legend. Their appearances include key summer festivals – Cambridge, FolkEast, Tonder (Denmark), Purbeck and Shrewsbury before embarking on a 13 date November 2016 tour, including a suitably explosive 5th November gig at London’s Assembly Hall.
Britain’s most controversial comedian celebrates an explosive 40 years in show business.
Pioneering English traditional folk powerhouse, Eliza Carthy, first assembled the Wayward Band in 2013 in order to explore and celebrate her long and varied career in folk music; ‘the last truly underground music scene’. To do this Eliza put together a team of hugely talented people from across the UK, and set out on the road to promote her ‘Best Of’ compilation, Wayward Daughter (Topic Records), which coincided with a biography of the same name. Since then the band has become a festival favourite, and Eliza has been awarded the MBE for services to folk music. The Underground Man
An Evening of Mediumship with Psychic Tony
A life of fascination, obsession and deep scientific curiosity. William John Cavendish Scott-Bentinck, the 5th Duke of Portland is an eccentric English aristocrat whose imagination and curiosity know no bounds. This deceptively simple man struggles to come to terms with a world that is teeming with new knowledge, ill-founded opinion and gossip. Why does he hide himself away? What is his fascination with tunnels? Will he ever unearth the secrets hidden in his memory?
It’s NOT creepy or kooky, mysterious or spooky. It’s Psychic Medium Tony Stockwell demonstrating his belief that those who have passed can communicate with their loved ones.

we celebrate the vitality of participants, challenging views of being an ‘old’ woman, providing a performance platform for those voices to be heard via movement, music and digital projection. We consider the funny side of things, the stuff of life, and all that moves us, producing work that is daring, comic, and moving. When Hanna from Kosovo met Hannah from Margate, their love of pop music brought them together, despite their different cultures and circumstances. Hannah and Hanna, which premiered at Theatre Royal Margate in 2001 went on to become a global hit. John Retallack’s new play, Hannah and Hanna in Dreamland, picks up their story fifteen years on, as they once again meet in Margate and rekindle the friendship they had as teenagers. For both readings, Kosovan Hanna is played by Celia Meiras, who was instrumental in creating the role in the earlier play, while Margate Hannah is played by celebrated local performer, Lisa Payne.

The Damned – 40th Anniversary Tour
Alexander O’Neal – 30 Years of Soul
Always unforgettable, The Damned continue to wave the flag for originality, stick two fingers up to mediocrity and celebrate a DIY punk ethos in the face of plastic entertainment and scripted reality.
With chart smash ‘Criticize’ lighting up dance floors across the world twenty-five years after its release, his sound has transcended generations. Originally released in 1987 from his album ‘Hearsay’ the single recently entered the UK charts once more.
To cap their incredible 40th anniversary year which climaxed in a blistering 3 hour set at the sold out Royal Albert Hall this summer, The Damned reach the pinnacle of their UK tour with this long-awaited night in Margate. Watch out, because punk legends The Damned are coming to Margate Winter Gardens on Friday 9th December. Celebrated as being the most entertaining of the original punk bands, The Damned were the first to release a punk single (New Rose, 1976) and are known as the band that would always deliver an accomplished live set ever since they started playing live in tiny punk clubs the same year.
As their loyal live following will attest, The Damned are still as fresh and exciting as they were 40 years ago in 1976. See The Damned live – it will be a night out that you are going to remember for a very long time. This is a standing concert. Margate Theatre Club Margate Theatre Club meets once a month for a lively, informal and friendly discussion. We pick shows here at the Theatre Royal and the Tom Thumb Theatre that are exciting, interesting and thought-provoking and meet afterwards to swap opinions and thoughts. Our conversations often go further than just the show! Come if you hated it, come if you loved it, come if you know what it meant, come if it made no sense at all, come with hundreds of opinions, come if you have no idea what you think. Whatever you think about theatre, we’d love to meet you. Margate Theatre Club is a chance to meet other theatre goers and share in great conversation, as well as learn about other exciting theatrical and cultural events in the area. Theatre Royal meetings across the road at the London Tavern, Tom Thumb meetings upstairs in the Finn Bar Open to everyone, just head to the bar post-show and join in. For details of our next event go to http://margatetheatreclub.blogspot.co.uk/

Theatre Royal Margate Associate Companies
Theatre Royal Margate will be supporting the following Kent based companies to create and present work to audiences in Margate and beyond. Mischievous Theatre, Third Party and Moving Memory Dance Theatre Company have all been chosen because they make relevant, exciting and accessible work which we want to see more of, especially here in Margate. We’re proud to be able to showcase their work at the Theatre Royal, with the ambition of helping them reach a wider audience. Mischievous Theatre CIC, based in Ramsgate, was formed to create stimulating, provocative and mischievous theatre, to tour this work nationally and internationally and to encourage a greater involvement in the arts by the people of east Kent. This coming year is going to be a busy one with two new shows, a revival and a new community project. Firstly, ‘The Wooden Horse of Troy’,
a piece of story-telling theatre based on the Greek tales of the Trojan War, is currently touring into schools, ‘I Have Lost Myself …’ a new project that explores memory and Alzheimer’s disease, which had a work-in-progress performance at Theatre Royal last year, will be touring next spring (2017), ‘The Man in the Wide Awake Hat: Pugin’s Gothic Adventures’, first performed in 2013, will be resurrected and will tour next autumn, and finally, ‘Thanet Folks Tales’ (working title), a new project, in association with Looping the Loop, is looking for stories from local Thanetians. None of these projects would be possible without the continued support from Theatre Royal Margate. Mischievous Theatre is pleased to be an associate company. www.mischievoustheatre.co.uk Third Party has been producing touring theatre for twenty years in the UK and abroad, playing theatres, village halls, festivals and found spaces. The bulk of their recent work has been in collaboration with director John Wright and has featured strongly visual and physically expressive versions of classic plays. In 2009 they premiered their two language, two country co-production of “The False Servant” by Marivaux at the Theatre Royal Margate.
