Welcome to the December edition of Your Local Flyer This year is going to be unlike any other year. No trips to see Santa, very little family gatherings and no Christmas parties. Usually I would recap on the year but I really do not think there is enough space here. Storms, Fires, Global Pandemic and a change in leadership in the USA. You could not write it. We have had a roller coaster of a year here as well. Lockdown 1.0 was testing time for us and we are SO pleased we came out of it relatively unscathed. Thank you to all our FABULOUS clients who have supported us throughout. We are truly grateful to you all and look forward to 2021 and working together. In this months edition we have included our NEW takeaway guide. Please see page 17 for more details of. We may not be able to go out to eat but we can still enjoy some of the fabulous restaurants we have in MK. Emma from Morrisons Leisure Plaza has been busy again this month. See page 22 to catch up with what she has been up to. We have put together tips for your Christmas Tree and How to make a Wreath. See pages 24/25 for more/

Cloudy2Clear, A Local Service With A Smile. I think we can all agree that the sooner we see the back of 2020 and this dreadful corona virus the better. That said, there are also some heart warming positives that we can take out of this situation. It has often been said that we can only really get to know one another and realise what is truly important in times of crisis. I think few would argue that in this case what has proven to be important is local community spirit. When talking to the Manager of Cloudy2Clear windows Stephen Moon it became clear that these values have been held dear for a number of years. Since starting the business some years ago Cloudy2Clear have remained true to their core values of
supporting the local community by providing a service that saves the public money. The Cloudy2Clear service only requires the glass to be replaced and not the whole window once the unit has failed. Stephen commented “Cloudy2Clear were able to assist our community through the last financial crisis in 2008 due to the savings that can be made in using our service. Unfortunately we might be going through something similar again soon and the public can rest assured that we will be there to help again”.

December Gardening Tips
erries are the jewels of the December garden, offering a festive treat for birds. Those that will attract feathered friends throughout the colder months include holly, mistletoe, pyracantha, cotoneaster and hawthorn – and now is the time to plant these trees and shrubs. When growing holly, ensure you have a self-fertile variety or plant a male and female specimen to guarantee berries. Birds will also appreciate rosehips and crab apples. Very few berries that birds enjoy are suitable for us to eat, however both birds and humans can feast on aronia (chokeberry) berries. These are a little bitter when eaten raw, but packed with vitamin C. Avoid walking on your lawn when it is blanketed by heavy frost or snow, as this will inevitably damage the grass beneath. If it’s a mild winter, continue to cut the lawn if it’s growing, but raise the height of the mower blades. Leave the faded flower heads on

your hydrangeas until spring, as they provide frost protection to the swelling buds further down the stems. If any of your rose bushes suffered from blackspot or rust this summer, gather up and remove any fallen leaves to reduce the chance of infection next year. Lift and store dahlia tubers once their leaves are blackened by frost. Move containers of shrubs or bedding planters to a sheltered spots; clustering them together them together helps protect the root systems from suffering frost damage Check climbers are securely attached to their supports with ties. Order your seeds for next year reflect on what worked well this year and what didn’t, and don’t be afraid to try new ideas. Hopefully there are not too many jobs left to do this year so you will have time for some fireside garden planning.

Ben Welcomes Multiple Funding Boosts For Your Local Flyer Milton Keynes
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed multiple rounds of funding for Milton Keynes from the Government. MK Council will receive £722,191 from the Covid Winter Grant Scheme which will support vulnerable children and families with food and bills this winter. A further £220 million will be invested nationwide to extend the Holiday and Food Programme so all children eligible for Free School Meals can join a holiday time programme that provides healthy food and fun activities during the summer, Christmas and Easter holidays next year. Milton Keynes will also benefit from £4,472,932 of Government funding to support rough sleepers into housing. This is part of the Government’s plan to build back better and build back greener by ensuring support for greener travel habits, cleaner air and healthier communities. On top of this specific, targeted funding the local Council will receive an unringfenced pot of £5,000,000 in order to best protect public health, local vulnerable people and the running of vital services. Ben commented, “This level of funding specifically for Milton Keynes shows how much the Government is committed to supporting our local council, our local people and local businesses. “No child should go hungry, nobody should be sleeping on the streets and we all need to make sure our future is green and we bounce back from coronavirus as soon as possible so this investment is hugely welcome.”
And the city will get a £684,750 boost for greener, active

How Your to save 100% Inheritance Local Flyer Tax on commercial property investments in your limited company Do you run a successful company which owns one, if not several, commercial properties? If so you are running the risk of HMRC treating your company as an investment company rather than as a trading company when you die. “Why does this matter?” I hear you say. Well, it is because the shares of a trading company which have been owned by you for at least 2 years usually qualify for 100% business relief against Inheritance Tax on your death. In other words when you die the value of your shares is normally free of taxation. However, if you have a significant amount of money invested in your company in, say, bank deposit accounts and/or commercial properties which are not part of your trading business, HMRC could re-classify your company as an investment company on your death. This would mean that you would be denied 100% business relief and you would become liable to Inheritance Tax on the valuation of your shares from the date of your death. Clearly, this is an undesirable outcome for most business owners. So what can you do about it? Well, one option is to sell the properties and distribute the surplus cash to the shareholders probably as dividends but this would defeat the object as the company would pay Corporation Tax on the capital gains on the sale of the properties at a rate of 19% and the money distributed to shareholders as dividends would become subject to Income Tax at rates of up to 38.1%.

Your Local Flyer ello Everyone my name
is Emma and I am the community champion for Morrisons Leisure plaza.
Each week we work alongside schools, charities, businesses and local groups to help support our local community.
We have been working with Milton Keynes council to get the children in care presents at Christmas, we will have a tree in-store with tags on which the children have written the presents they would like this year. Over the coming weeks running up to Christmas we will be helping and supporting the community as much as we can, we will also be spreading Christmas joy in store.
Recently we have been working with Long meadow Primary school to help support them with the event they have going on, they are doing an online raffle to raise funds for the school. Looking forward we have lots of things planned to help support those in need in these uncertain times. Some of the things we are helping and are greatly in need of your help are a reverse advent calendar, toy donation, and a raffle.

How to make a Christmas Wreath
L
ittle is more welcoming at Christmas than a cheery wreath hanging on the front door. Using a floral foam ring will help to keep the foliage fresh for weeks.
You will need 30cm floral foam ring (soak the ring before you start) Fine and stiff florists’ wire Variegated evergreens Holly berries Crab apples Ornamental cabbage
How to.....
Cut the plant material into short lengths. Aim for a range of leaf sizes and textures, from neat and spiky, to broad and floppy. Insert the sprigs all around the foam oasis, making sure that no foam is showing. Get an attractive mixed effect by varying the foliage and berries used each time you insert a new sprig, to avoid groupings of the same plant material.

How To Keep Your Christmas Tree Fresh For Longer
C
aring for a live Christmas tree is easy, but requires a few specific steps. If you take these steps, you can make a Christmas tree last longer through the season. Most Christmas trees travel to their owner’s home on the top of a vehicle. Without some kind of covering, the wind can dry the Christmas tree out. The first step to keeping your Christmas tree fresh is to cover the tree as you go home in order to keep the wind from damaging it. When caring for a live Christmas tree, remember a Christmas tree is essentially a giant cut flower. Unless you cut your own Christmas tree, chances are the tree you buy has been sitting on the lot for several days, possibly weeks. The vascular system that draws water up into the Christmas tree will have clogged up. Cutting off just a Ÿ inch (0.5 cm.) of the bottom of the trunk will remove the clogs and open up the vascular system again. You can cut more off, if you need to for height reasons. Many people wonder if there is a special way to cut the trunk to help with keeping your Christmas tree fresh. A simple straight cut is all that is needed. Drilling holes or cutting at
angles will not improve how well the Christmas tree takes up water. To keep a Christmas tree alive, it is essential that once you cut the trunk of the Christmas tree, the cut has to stay moist. Make sure to fill the stand immediately after you cut the trunk. If you want to make a Christmas tree last longer, just use plain water. Check the Christmas tree stand twice a day as long as the tree is up. A Christmas tree stand normally holds a rather small amount of water and a Christmas tree can quickly use up the water in the stand. Place the tree away from heating vents or cold drafts.
Merry Christmas

YourDiary Local Flyer Email: iain.stewart.mp@parliament.uk | Phone: 01908 686830 Iain’s www.iainstewart.org.uk At the time of writing this, we are entering the new national restrictions for the month of November to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases. Hopefully, at the time of you reading this, we will be coming out of the lockdown and moving back to local/ regional tiers, with positive news that the number of cases have reduced. Prior to the new restrictions coming into action, I visited a range of businesses to see how they have been faring in light of coronavirus and see how I can help as their local MP. I visited Divine Dog Groomers in Crownhill to see how they have been faring during the coronavirus outbreak. Whilst it was great to meet some of my furry constituents who were being groomed, it was just as great to learn that demand for their services had increased. Their growth in demand and customer base has led them to look to expand their premises, which will be great for their clients and the team. The construction of the new Bow Brickhill Community Hall is underway, and I was invited to visit the worksite to see the progress of it. Once the building has been completed, this will be a huge asset to the local community by providing a space for groups, events and meetings to take place. Also, it will enable the original users of the hall to return, allowing
the support and help offered here to continue once again. I am excited to return to the Bow Brickhill Community Hall once it www.eas has been completed. St Mary’s Church in Bletchley has been chosen to become a Resourcing Hub, and it was great to visit and learn of their plans through this opportunity. The funding they will receive from the Church will help them to have an impact on the lives of thousands of people living in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area. I look forward to seeing their plans become a reality and see their revitalisation work expand. On Sunday 8th November, in line with Government guidance, I visited Bletchley and Stony Stratford war memorials to pay my respect to the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom and liberty. I laid a wreath at each site as a token of my appreciation and gratitude for those who gave so much for us. This year has been difficult for many of us, it has changed the way we live, work and play. Our mental health has been challenged and some of us have struggled through this difficult period.
