COMMUNITY ARTS 2019 Each year we design and produce a large scale Community Arts project… 2019 will be no exception. From 2000 moths and butterflies inhabiting York Art Gallery in 2016 as part of the Galleries “Tiger Moths and Memories” exhibition, to nearly 500 meticulously drawn images of pollen for the wonderful 2017 exhibition “PolliNation”... We like to work big, make an impact and involve as many local people as possible! Our projects take a different direction each year. They are “Fine Art” projects but can involve utilising well practised craft techniques… as our most recent piece “Bloom - a thousand flowers” demonstrated perfectly. We like to use as much recycled material as possible in the production of our work and always aim to keep the themes and titles accessible… in terms of concept and processes of production.

If you are at all interested in what we do and would like to be placed upon our Community Arts mailing list please log your interest by emailing york.learning@york.gov.uk

Our Fashion Show was such a resounding success last year, raising just over £500 for charity, that we have decided to “walk” again this year. Explore York will be our hosts, in the centre of the city and we will again feature as part of Fashion City York's “Fashion Week”. This will be a ticketed event, but we are keen to showcase the work of our students, so a small number of tickets will be made available to interested parties. For further details, please contact Claire Douglas at claire.douglas@york.gov.uk

An important date for your diary in 2019...

COUNSELLING INFORMATION EVENING (ALL LEVELS COVERED)

Wednesday 8th May 2019 from 5:45pm - 9:00pm at The Centre@Burnholme, Mossdale Ave, YORK YO31 0HA. Come along to meet the Counselling tutor team and learn more about what it is like to train with York Learning. You will also be able to learn more specifically about the CPCAB qualifications and what is required at Levels 2, 3 and 4. There will be a chance to speak directly with the tutors who would be teaching you at your desired level as well as hearing from existing learners about their experience with us. To register your interest in the information evening then please go to www.yortime.org.uk and search ‘counselling’, simply leave your details and we will be in touch with more information. Please note that enquiries and applications for our counselling courses are welcome prior to the information event. For initial enquiries or to make an application please email us at yorklearningcounselling@york.gov.uk or call us on 01904 554277.

To give you an idea of what it is like to study with us then here is an insight into what some of our learners have to say about their experience of training with us: I would recommend the level 2 course to anyone who would like to gain a better perspective of what a counsellor does or to simply learn counselling skills to help them in their current jobs and everyday lives

The support is fantastic always just an email away or completely approachable in class times

The tutors are fantastic and very supportive. I am really enjoying learning more about counselling and more about myself too!

It was so refreshing to deal with a responsive and helpful team. I rang up at the last minute, was able to speak to the tutor and signed up within hours - they helped with funding too. Other organisations should learn lessons!

We look forward to seeing you and supporting you on your journey to becoming a counsellor.

Why Family Learning? Children spend less than 20% of their waking hours in school. It stands to reason that where parents, grandparents and carers can support a child’s learning, the child will progress more easily.

Further information about our courses and services Cost of our courses All of our courses are individually priced to take account of a number of factors including course hours, the numbers that can attend or the need to use specialist facilities or venues. For many of the courses you will see three prices. The first is the full price which most people will pay, the second is for those who are claiming the state pension, and the third price is for some people who are claiming universal credit. Please note that an entitlement to universal credit is not an automatic qualification for a reduced fee. Please note that you will be required to produce evidence that you are entitled to a reduced fee within 1 week of signing up for the course. If you fail to do this we may cancel your place on the course. For information on whether you are entitled to a reduction under universal credit please ring us on 01904 554277 or go to yorklearning.org.uk/policies/ and look at the fee policies under booking your course Can I spread the cost of the course fee? Our easy payment method is designed to help spread the cost of your course and is available on all courses over ÂŁ120. This is done via direct debit and is generally 4 payments spread over 4 months. On occasion we are able to set up payment schedules over a longer period of time but this cannot extend beyond the end date of a course. Please note: Once a direct debit is set up you must not cancel it unless you have 60

been in contact with us first and we have confirmed that it is alright to do so. If you cancel without our permission you will immediately be invoiced for the full amount. It is important to understand that direct debit is not a method of paying for part of the course, just a way of spreading the full cost of the course over a number of months. Can I get any help with course costs? We understand that for some people the cost of an adult learning class can be a barrier to attendance. In some circumstances we might be able to help with the cost of the course, travel to the course, books, materials and childcare. Please ring 01904 554277 to find out if you might be eligible for support. Examination fees All exam and registration fees are included in the cost of a course unless stated otherwise. However if you complete a course and then are unsuccessful in the final exam we will ask you to pay an additional fee to resit the exam. Refunds A full refund will be given under the following circumstances: • The course time or date changes following you signing up and it is no longer convenient for you to attend. • The course closes because there are insufficient numbers on the course.

• You signed up over the phone or via our online booking system and change your mind within 14 days of the booking. Please note this does not apply if the course starts within the 14 day period or if the course has already started when you book. In all other circumstances we only offer a refund in exceptional circumstances. Once a course has started we cannot offer any refunds. This is because the course fee contributes to funding that makes the course viable. All refunds offered in exceptional circumstances will be subject to a £15 administration fee.
