Welcome! Congratulations – you're in the most festive, Christmas-y city in the UK. Well, we may be a little biased, but we're sure that by the end of your stay you'll agree! York has a particularly special atmosphere at Christmastime, as shoppers browse the markets and fairs for unique gifts for loved ones, and Santa himself pops up all over the city throughout December. Not to mention the magic of The Shambles... There's so much going on this month that we struggled to fit all of the fantastic events into our pages. The stately homes such as Castle Howard, Burton Agnes Hall and Beningbrough Hall will offer a traditional feel,
while the Ice Factor at the Designer Outlet will provide some family-friendly fun. It's hard not to feel festive when the sound of carols fills the air, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to listen to some fantastic choirs belt out the old classics – and you might even be able to join in for a few! And, for a truly magical experience, don't miss the Christmas fun at Lady Anne Middleton's Hotel, where you'll be able to meet live reindeer! Whatever you plan to do in York this month, have fun!

Theatre Royal To book: 623568. Richard III (19th-30th November)
York Theatre Royal and Nottingham Playhouse present this production which explores the parallels between the devious Richard, who is full of paranoia, humour and irresistible charm, and our modern world of political monsters.

Children and adults alike will be swept along by the magic and mystery of Cinderella. TongueTied Theatre and Telling Tales come together to transport you into Cinderella¹s very own ballroom in the De Grey Rooms.
Aladdin and the Twankeys (12th December-1st February)
If you¹ve not seen a York Theatre Royal panto before, book now and find out why they receive consistently high praise from national television and press coverage. Grand Opera House

Emmerdale star Adele Silva stars as The Wicked Queen, with Hollyoaks¹ Marcus Patrick as the Huntsman and Any Dream Will Do¹s Rob McVeigh playing the Prince. Hairspray star Lauren Hood is Snow White and pantomime regular Aiden J Harvey returns as Muddles, as does popular Dame, Phil Randall. 18
Friargate Theatre To book: 613000 Measure For Measure (5th-8th December)

A spectacular all new production of the classic story starring CBeebies favourite presenter Alex Winters as Dick Whittington, Coronation Street heartthrob Danny Young as the hilarious Idle Jack, and London¹s Burning and Bad Girls star Kim Taylforth as Queen Rat.
Joseph Rowntree Theatre To book: 623568
Jack and The Beanstalk (7th-14th December)
With gags galore, big music and dance numbers and traditional slapstick, Rowntree Players are once again promising a brand new rollicking romp of a panto! Jack¹s family are caught without power, but the sails of the windmill will once again turn after everyone goes on a strict diet of beans.
Up Stage Theatre, Monkgate To book: 674675
