What IS on? Good question. If you're wondering what you can do, see, and experience while in York this month, you've picked up the right publication. You'll notice that there is no question mark after the title of our magazine, because we already know what's on. Because we're What's On, baby! And if you're in your home or hotel reading this, fearing to put a step outside lest the dreaded April Showers soak you through... fear not. York was built under a huge invisible dome which acts like a giant umbrella,

keeping the rain off us all. If you do happen to get caught in a downpour, it's probably just another low-flying aeroplane having smashed a hole in the dome. We'll fix it, no worries.

Hall, York's Chocolate Story, or the many other attractions celebrating the festival, you're bound to have a great time. After all, chocolate is in our blood.*

Stepping outside will be well worth it, too. Not only will the city see the return of the worldfamous Jorvik Viking Centre, after over a year of renovation and restoration, but it's Easter too – and York does all things chocolate related very well. Whether you're enjoying the Easter-themed activities at Beningbrough

So have a great month, keep your free copy of What's On handy, and we hope to see you again soon. *That is a comment on York's historical ties to chocolate production, not a damning indictment of levels of obesity.

Get in touch.... we would love to hear from you! Visit whatsoninyork.org RACHAEL 01904 735218 rachael@yourlocallink.co.uk

TOUR DE YORKSHIRE • PULL OUT AND KEEP! • TOUR DE YORKSHIRE • TOU

Yorkshire by bike!

The Tour de Yorkshire is back! Yet again the busy city streets and quiet country roads of our fair county will be awash with the squeal of rubber and the roar of the crowds as some of the world's best cyclists compete. What's more, this year's race will begin right here in the Best Pages area, starting in Bridlington and rounding up the first stage in Scarborough.

STAGE ONE: 28th April – Bridlington to Scarborough (the one to care about!) STAGE THREE: 30th April – Bradford to Fox Valley, Sheffield

STAGE TWO : 29th April - Tadcaster to Harrogate (76 miles)

WHY TOUR 'DE' YORKSHIRE? Good question, as 'de' is hardly a commonly used Yorkshire word. The Tour de Yorkshire began in 2015 following the huge success of the Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France which took place in Yorkshire. During that race, the Yorkshire sections were jokingly referred to as 'The Tour de Yorkshire'... and the name stuck. The following year, the first proper Tour de Yorkshire took place, instantly establishing itself as one the world's best cycling races.

FANCY A GO YOURSELF? On the third and final day of the 2017 race, amateur cyclists can take part in the Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride. This allows people to cycle the actual route before the pros get a go on it, and covers 100, 75, or 50km distances. Not only will you get to sample the gorgeous views as you ride, but the gathering crowds will be on hand to cheer you on. If you'd like to try, and you think you're fit enough to do it, sign up at www.letour.yorkshire.com
