Welcome ye, seekers of sun Not typically associated with a summer's break, York is in fact the sunniest place in Britain. Stay with us on this, okay? Although you might think somewhere on the south coast would lay claim to most sunshine across the year, that accolade actually goes to Parliament Street in the heart of York. Extensive research was undertaken to arrive at that conclusion; research paid for by the shops on Parliament Street, coincidentally. Make what you will of that, but there is no denying that York is a fantastic place to
spend a sunny day/weekend/ week/fortnight/month. Although we're known for our fascinating history, exciting sights, interesting attractions, and friendly locals, we're also famous for never stopping... not even in the blazing midday sun of July. As well as the sunshine, York is awash with stuff going on. Everywhere you turn you'll find something to suit; from a fun day of science at the National Railway Museum, to an afternoon spent lost in a huge corn field at York Maze. As well as those two big-hitters, you
can relax at a show in one of the theatres, thrash your head about at a gig, or tip-toe quietly around York Minster. Whatevs. It's a good job we're here, as once again this very issue of What's On is crammed full of the best events listing. If it ain't listed in here, it ain't worth going to. Unless its some sort of secret speak-easy club, in which case email us the password and we'll meet you there.
W hatever you get up, have a great July!
Get in touch.... we would love to hear from you! Visit whatsoninyork.org RACHAEL 01904 735218 rachael@yourlocallink.co.uk

EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE: THE YORK SUFFRAGETTES (UNTIL 1ST JULY) It’s dangerous, it’s exhilarating, it’s ground-breaking... in 2017 the amazing story of York’s suffragettes will be told for the first time. Everything is Possible is York Theatre Royal and Pilot Theatre’s latest large-scale community production with a cast of around 150. The performance will start outdoors before moving onto the stage at York Theatre Royal. Raise the purple, green and white flags, and cry “Votes for Women!”
BRING ON THE BOLLYWOOD (11TH-15TH JULY) Bring on the Bollywood - a

romantic comedy that features a fantastic soundtrack interwoven with wit, wild parties and some wicked dances. City and country, old and new collide at Colonel Pawar’s ancestral home, the shabby and un-chic Lakshman Villa. Confined within these walls, his wife Mrs Pawar pines for the cultural polish of London, New York or Paris!
BUZZ: A NEW MUSICAL (27TH-29TH JULY) Winner of the 2016 Eddies Award, the sell-out Edinburgh hit Buzz: A New Musical returns; a hilarious musical journey through the history of the vibrator and a brutally honest story of a singleton’s quest to fall back in love with herself. Sex Ed just got a revamp.
It's all very well stealing from the rich to give to the poor, but when you have no sense of direction then mayhem ensues! Robin Hood is lost in Sherwood Forest. It's not his fault; there are a lot of trees. But once again it falls to Maid Marian to save the day and get him and the Merry Men out of a scrape. They may wear the tights, but Marian knows what really makes a hero. A summer swashbuckling show for all the family as the team of actor puppeteers re-tell this classic story of heroism, valour, and the power of legendary teamwork with songs, slapstick and spectacle.
