WHAT’S ON: NOVEMBER DON’T PANIC! Lets rip this plaster off as quickly as we can, eh? To all our welcome visitors from overseas: no, York is not at war with the sky, nor do we lack modern heating so have to gather around huge bonfires at night. What you are possibly experiencing (should your visit bring you to our fair city around the 5th November) is Guy Fawkes Night. Just go with it. The custom of letting off fireworks and burning effigies of a chap called
Guy is an ancient tradition; one we encourage you to get involved with. As well as pyrotechnics and piles of burning wood, Bonfire Night is a great way to mingle with the locals, eat copious amounts of food, and stand around in a field. If we’re honest, the standing around in a field is the best bit. However, should you be dropping into our area later in the month, or if you’re as local as one of the Minster’s gargoyles, there are plenty of other fun things happening in November. The Aesthetica Short Film Festival will highlight the best

of “little fancy films”, while Living North’s Christmas Fair will help get you set for the festivities that fast approach. Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland has set up shop once again at the Designer Outlet, so you can ice skate, ride, feast, and shop your day away, should you wish. And of course there are many events taking place each and every day of the month, and you now have the details for all of them in your lovely hands.
Enjoy November!

(14TH-18TH NOVEMBER) Andrea Dunbar’s semiautobiographical play, written when she was just 19, is a vivid portrait of girls caught between a brutal childhood and an unpromising future, and hungry for adult adventure.
THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE (31ST OCTOBER-4TH NOVEMBER) Frantic Assembly and State Theatre Company of South Australia’s critically acclaimed Things I Know To Be True returns to delight audiences this Autumn. As beautifully touching as it is funny and bold, Things I Know To Be True tells the story of a family and marriage through the eyes of four grown siblings struggling to define themselves beyond their parents’ love and expectations.
