Wondering What’s On?... Y
ou’ve come to the right place, baby. The small yet potent publication which you are currently holding is so confident that it knows all that is taking place in York this month, that it calls itself What’s On. Without a question mark. Because it’s a statement. Another similarly confident statement follows: York is brilliant in September. Now, don’t get us wrong, as York is pretty awesome in all months of the year (especially the secret 13th month that we don’t tell anyone about). However, September is when the autumnal magic starts and the city takes on
an orangey glow. That might be from the Christmas lights going up super early, but it might also be the magic. Yes, magic. And so this September is choked up with a huge selection of lovely happenings, from tiny things to spy out on the street, to huge, full-scale experiences that you’ll never forget. Our faves have to be the upcoming York Book Fair at the racecourse (the books are for humans, not horses, we should note), and also the spectacular York Balloon Fiesta, when dozens of giant hot air balloons will fill our glorious skies. What larks!
There’s so much going on, that we just had to scribble it all down for your reading pleasure, then leave thousands of copies laying around for you to find. Hopefully there will be an event that suitably tickles your pickle, so turn the pages and start a-hunting. By the way: the secret month is called Smeptember and entrance to it is permitted only after attending every single event in this magazine. Good luck. There’s free tea and coffee on entry!
! En joy September

HIDDEN GEM OF THE MONTH: EXPRESSIONS The family-run vintage clothing store on Walmgate specialises in American sportswear pieces.
SPORTS FANS Hundreds of ice hockey, American football, basketball and baseball jerseys come in from the USA monthly, while regulars from favourite players are kept stocked up constantly. Specific brands include: NFL,NBA,NHL and MLB. (if you know, you know.)
Expressions doesn’t just accommodate for American sports fans though. Dresses from the 40s all the way up to modern day are stocked in a variety of sizes alongside other vintage clothing, too.
