1953 Re-Edition In 1953, Breitling launched its Ref. 765 AVI, a pilot’s watch known as the “Co-Pilot”. It had a particularly bold look with a rotating bezel and oversized Arabic numerals, and its impressive legibility made it a favorite among aviators. The Manufacture is honoring this classic chronograph’s legacy with the new AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition. The new timepiece is a carefully researched and crafted reedition of the legendary Co-Pilot and is based on one of the early iterations from that year. The Co-Pilot was a 1950s interpretation of the onboard clocks designed and produced by Breitling’s Huit Aviation Department in the 1930s and 1940s, which have already provided inspiration for the watches in the Aviator 8 collection. The new watch coexists comfortably with another Breitling icon - the Navitimer, with its famous circular slide rule, which established its sterling reputation for flight calculations, while the Co-Pilot, with its superior legibility and rugged construction, was particularly valued as a reliable companion equal to the challenges of aerial activity in the most extreme of circumstances. This is the brand’s second historical re-edition, the first being the Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition - one of the most popular releases of 2019 - and is set to follow in its footsteps. Georges Kern, says: “It was always clear to us that longtime Breitling fans would embrace these watches. But it’s also exciting to see how strongly they appeal to people who are new to our brand - they can take one look at a Re-Edition and see how much living history, innovation,

and cool luxury we can pack into a single watch.” The AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition is being produced in a limited series of 1953 pieces, each of which will be numbered “ONE OF 1953”. The watch is powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B09, a manually wound mechanical chronograph movement based on the brand’s celebrated in-house Manufacture Caliber 01. The B09 was designed with the Re-Edition models in mind, and, like all Breitling movements, it is a COSCcertified chronometer. Breitling’s Re-Edition watches are created with painstaking attention to detail. Every effort is made to ensure that each one is a faithful reproduction of the original. These watches feature the same Arabic numerals as the 1953 Co-Pilot as well as hand-applied Superbreitling.com

LumiNova®, the colour of which has been carefully chosen to recall the luminescent material on the original. The 41.1-millimeter stainless-steel case is also identical, and the bezel is secured by three screws that are placed in precisely the same positions as those on the watch from 1953. The watch features thin syringe hands, which exactly match those on the earliest examples, and a domed hesalite crystal that has been fashioned in precisely the same shape as the original. There are only two concessions that distinguish this new timepiece from its famous ancestor - the water resistance has been improved to 3 bar (30 meters/100 feet) compared to the original version, and keen-eyed observers will also see that “GENEVE” no longer appears on the dial. The Breitling AVI Ref. 765 1953 ReEdition is presented on a black vintageinspired leather strap with a pin buckle and comes with a five-year warranty. There is no question that Breitling aficionados will be drawn to this latest Re-Edition and the chance to wear a piece of history on their wrists. Breitling will also be releasing the AVI 1953 Edition in two striking precious-metal versions. The first crafted in 18k red gold with a black dial and a brown vintage-inspired leather strap with a limited-edition run of 253 pieces, and “ONE OF 253” engraving; the second produced in platinum featuring a blue dial and a gold vintage-inspired leather strap. This extraordinary version will be available in a limited edition of only 153 pieces, a fact that will be verified by “ONE OF 153” engraved on the back of the platinum case. breitling.com

Flyback Chronograph Manufacture The flyback was one of the first features to be added to the chronograph during the 1930s. A straightforward concept, it allows the chronograph to be stopped, reset and restarted with a single press of the push-piece, rather than three successive presses. A conventional flyback mechanism is based on a set of several column wheels that act as a system of clutches. The FC-760 calibre that operates the Flyback Chronograph Manufacture dispenses with this complexity, replacing the standard column wheel with a star-shaped wheel. This results in a thinner movement with fewer parts and operations making the FC-760 calibre from Frederique Constant simpler, smoother and more reliable. Pressing the pusher at 4 o’clock declutches the chronograph’s movement and resets it. Once the pusher is released, the movement and the chronograph re-engage and the chronograph restarts. No fewer than 6 years of development were required to attain this degree of sophistication. The FC-760 calibre, which can be admired through the new collection’s sapphire crystal back, is also more aesthetically pleasing. The flyback module accounts for just 96 of the entire movement’s 233 parts, making it one of the most efficient flyback modules in the world, as well as one of the most affordable, thanks to its ingenious, patented construction. Today, half of all chronographs are gold, a colour that already features heavily within the collection. In response to demand, Frederique Constant have unveiled two new options, both featuring two-tone styling with silvered counters. In a first for this model, the counters and the face are different colours. This novel contrast improves legibility and gives the chronograph a sportier feel. In the first version, the three counters are set against a chocolatecoloured dial with a 42mm rose-gold case. The second features a blue dial with a stainless-steel case. frederique-constant.com

C A R B O T E C H Panerai continue to experiment with unique materials, delivering a striking new interpretation - the Luminor Marina Carbotech™ 44 mm. An exciting creation in the year which marks the relaunch of the Luminor Marina collection, the Luminor Marina Carbotech™ brings a decisive aesthetic change, confidently capitalising on the expressive potential created and nourished by a new, evocative language which is today the basis of its more widely recognised identity; a Carbotech™ case and a Sandwich™ dial with blue Super-LumiNova™ markings. This latest Luminor Marina model overturns convention, in that for the first time the collection combines the high-performance composite material developed by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee and the iconic Sandwich dial with vibrant touches of blue. An intense and highly distinctive combination, further testament to the unequalled LAB-ID™. Remarkably tough, but also surprisingly light, with a weight of only 96 grams, the case of the watch owes its mechanical performance to the Carbotech™ from which it is moulded. This is a cutting-edge composite, formed of superimposed layers of

carbon fibre which are alternately aligned, then consolidated under pressure and controlled temperature with a binding matrix, based on PEEK (polyether Ether Ketone). Highly resistant to external shocks and corrosion, it is recognizable for its aesthetic appearance, created by its irregular texture so that each piece has a unique character. The watch has a well-known movement that is a prominent member of the Luminor Marina family - the P.9010 calibre, entirely designed and developed within the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. This is a tested automatic movement just 6mm thick, fitted with the function for rapidly setting the hour hand, a process which simultaneously adjusts the date. It has a power reserve of three days provided by a double spring barrel. Water-resistant to 30 bar (a depth of about 300 metres), the new Luminor Marina Carbotech™ 44mm is supplied with a strap in Panerai SportechTM, a water-resistant rubber-like material, black with blue sewing. A second strap in black rubber completes the equipment, together with a special screwdriver for removing the buckle. panerai.com

Villeret Métiers d’Art Binchōtan Blancpain offers up a unique insight into its exceptional dials featuring Binchōtan, a charcoal made from Ubamegashi oak in the Kishu region of Japan. Through its Métiers d’Art collection, Blancpain continually innovates by combining the expertise of its artisans with a range of ancestral decorative techniques rarely seen in watchmaking. Binchōtan is a Japanese charcoal made using traditional methods dating back over 400 years. Its remarkable quality lies essentially

in its density, resulting from the slow combustion of Ubamegashi (Holm oak) in a clay oven heated to temperatures ranging from 1000 to 1300 degrees Celsius. The swift firing process, followed by rapid cooling, reduces the tree’s bark to ashes before yielding a smooth surface boasting a hardness comparable to that of steel. Working with this unique background, Blancpain’s Le Brassus Métiers d’Art studio adds decorations and carved elements to achieve the final dial. While renowned for its purifying properties, Binchōtan is rarely used for ornamental purposes. Blancpain has given a new expression to this natural material through a series of one-of-a-kind creations. In its Le Brassus Métiers d’Art workshops, the artisans of the Manufacture, driven by a perpetual quest for innovation, have adopted this 17th century Japanese technique for crafting their dials. The Binchōtan is first washed and then cut into fine disks, to the surface of which several layers of resin from the sap of the Asian lacquer tree are applied in order to protect the material from aging. The disks are polished to heighten the beauty of Binchōtan’s natural streaks and the intensity of its colour, before being meticulously decorated with a pigmented lacquer. Blancpain then fits the dial with a gold applique handengraved and patinated using the Japanese Shakudō techniques that the Manufacture first introduced in 2015.

Binchōtan can also be used to create decorative inlays applied to previously engraved dials in association with Grand Feu enameling. The new Villeret Métiers d’Art Binchōtan watches testify to Blancpain’s creativity and highlight its watchmaking expertise. These one-of-a-kind models come in a 42mm red gold double stepped case housing the 13R3A caliber, visible through the sapphire crystal case back and ensuring an eight-day power reserve displayed on the bridge side.

La Prairie’s White Caviar Eye Extraordinaire is the latest innovation from the luxury Swiss skincare brand. Rich yet delicate, enriched with both Golden Caviar Extract and the powerful illuminating molecule Lumidose, the light reflecting formula has been created to diminish the appearance of grey, brown, red, violet and yellow chromatic disturbances on the skin around the delicate eye area. More noticeable due to the fact skin is thinner around the eye, these pigments increase with age and absorb light, making eyes look dull and less luminous. Born from stresses such as pollution, stress, sun, micro-organisms and free radicals, the rich cream aims to reduce these pigments and restore the feeling of firmness, moisture, smoothness and elasticity. Applied using the cooling Ceramic Pearl, which has been designed to massage and de-puff the skin, it is left feeling comforted and more radiant with age spots dramatically reduced. Encased in white and silver case, reminiscent of a sleek jewel box, the innovative airless pump releases the perfect dose of product each time while also preserving the illuminating properties of Lumidose. Extraordinary. White Caviar Eye Extraordinaire, 20ml £435.00 from La Prairie. Available at Harrods, John Lewis and Selfridges.

DAYMARKER, FOWEY

Cornish Gem

A luxurious modern barn just a stones throw from picturesque Fowey on Cornwall’s South coast sets the scene for the perfect UK break.

Fabulously located with picturesque views stretching out to the coast of St Austell Bay, Daymarker is the ultimate Cornish gem. Situated in South Cornwall, just minutes from the quaint town of Fowey, this newly built, modern barn has been created to effortlessly combine the very best luxury furnishings, fresh contemporary style and latest mod cons for the ultimate seaside escape. Close by and just a mile from St Austell, Charlestown is another maritime gem and a perfect example of a late Georgian working port. Constructed between 1791 and 1801 by Charles Rashleigh,

entrepreneur and member of the local landowning family, in response to the growth of the local mining industry, the port was originally built to export copper and import coal, before being used for the export of China Clay. Formerly known as West Polmear with a population of 9 and a small fishing fleet that used the beach as a harbour, the Charlestown Quay project saw the construction of the pier and by the 19th Century various businesses had popped up, from shipbuilding to lime burning, and the population grew to almost 3,000. day the port remains unspoiled and retains much of its Georgian character making it a firm favourite with production companies for film and television locations for programmes such as Poldark and Mansfield Park. Elsewhere, the famed Eden Project makes for an educational day out, and of course, no trip to Cornwall is complete without a visit to the beach and the stunning sandy cove beaches of Polridmouth, Polkerris, Readymoney Cove and the beaches of The Roseland Peninsula are all close-by. Thanks to this sleek properties location, you won’t be short of things to do when you’re away from the house, but there are also plenty of reasons to spend your time in and around the barn too. With four large boutique ensuite bedrooms, the spacious property is perfect for breaks away with both family and friends. Making the most of the stunning views and natural light with full height glass doors and plenty of windows, guests can step off the large driveway and into the airy hallway before ascending the floating staircase up to the vast open plan living area. From the moment you step through the door, guests can expect some lovely local welcome gifts such as warm scones with Cornish clotted cream and jam, coffee beans, Cornish salt, sweet treats from The Eden Project and spotless interiors. DAYMARKER, FOWEY

With one bedroom located on the top floor, and the three others downstairs, the snug is ideal for those travelling with children or teenagers and are looking for a separate space for all to enjoy. There’ll be no fighting over bedrooms as each of the stylish ensuite rooms are as lovely as the last. Dressed in cosy luxury throws and crisp white sheets, the chic neutral toned Scandinavian style complements the contemporary design of the barn. Two bedrooms boast super king sized beds, while the others feature kings. The first bedroom on the ground floor opens out onto the large stone terrace leading to the enclosed outdoor swimming pool and grassed lawn. Although the pool is seasonal, spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed all year round as the sun sets over the sweeping fields and glistening sea water ahead.

The design of the property is ideal for indoor-outdoor living both up and downstairs. The huge glass doors not only allow an abundance of light in and those spectacular views out, but open up the living space to the fresh Cornish air beyond. If you’re staying with family, you can relax in peace upstairs on the enormous balcony whilst still able to keep an eye on the children as they enjoy the pool below and with such an open living space inside, there is more than enough room for everyone to have their own space while still being able to come together in comfort. While it’s undeniable that you won’t want to leave the welcoming surrounds of Daymarker, there is plenty to do and see just around the corner. Overlooking the River Fowey, made famous by the novels of Daphne Du Maurier, quaint harbour town, Fowey is right on your doorstep and is filled with pretty cafes, hearty local pubs, artisan shops selling Cornish crafts and clothes, and much more. Thankfully, you won’t come across many neighbours thanks to the remote location, so if you happen to enjoy everything Fowey’s pubs and bars have to offer, you can at least rest happy knowing you haven’t forced anyone else into enjoying your evening with you. There is however a sister property just next door, so you will need to make sure to respect any neighbours that happen to be staying at the same time.

AUDI ICON GOES DARK The German marque’s flagship supercar builds on past success with a new Carbon Black edition. Pushing the V10 Performance package to new heights, the R8 now features additional aesthetic options to enhance this already aggressive monster’s visual impact.

AUDI R8 COUPE CARBON BLACK

CARBON BLACK Bursting on to the scene back in 2006 oozing style and considerable substance for a respectively slim price-tag, the R8 born from the sweeping corners of Le Mans - immediately pushed the German marque way beyond the realms of business car big hitter and returned its status as a premium sports car production manufacturer with some game-changing ideas. Not least a new design ethos that would go on to provide the basis for today’s stunning R8. Beautifully blending sharp, angular lines of yesteryear with sweeping curves heavily featured on ‘modern’ cars of the 90’s, Audi managed to create a unique aesthetic that has evolved ever since to deliver the latest iteration.

This is a car that provides a vision of the modern supercar, not only in its head-turning stance, but also in its aspirational position atop a long list of models in the RS series that sit below it. Audi now provide a ladder from its entry level cars all the way up to the pinnacle R8 V10 Performance model allowing owners and potential buyers the opportunity to both own a slice of the performance pie whilst working towards the next step on the ladder. There’s no denying however that this is, in its own right, a spectacle of engineering. The perfectly balanced mid-engine layout and incredibly low, wide stance make for one of the best cornering machines available in the production world. Add to this audi.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE

the spectacular 5.2-litre V10 engine - which happens to be presented through a vast glass pane over the rear of the car - and you have the perfect recipe for performance. Producing 620PS and 580Nm of torque, the R8 V10 Performance executes zero to sixty-two in just over three seconds and a top speed over 200mph providing more than enough pace for any road and equally sufficient speed for the track should you choose. Paired with the sharp 7-speed S-tronic transmission along with a silky smooth dual clutch, gear changes are fast and pointed, perfectly positioning you and the car for incredibly responsive performance. Of course, the R8 also features the renowned Quattro system, putting power to the road in the most appropriate way further enhancing this cars performance and control. Cornering really is the jewel in this car’s crown. Everything is focussed on providing the best platform from which to build the ultimate cornering machine. From the chassis to the suspension and even the exterior design, there isn’t a piece of this mechanical puzzle that has not been engineered for fast cornering. The latest update provides more stability and precision through improved steering response as well as further distinction between the Audi drive select dynamic handling system profiles. Along with the standard comfort, auto, dynamic and individual settings, the V10 Performance also offers new dry, wet and snow programs as part of the Performance mode. In-keeping with this enhanced agility, the exterior design has been crafted to create a visual aesthetic which both compliments and highlights that which lies within. The front end has received some small, but certainly not subtle alterations to improve airflow whilst creating an even wider, lower look thanks to some clever use of those angular lines. The front grille essentially runs across the entire width of the R8 split only by striking angled features to divide the large air inlets while the diffuser has been drawn upward further exaggerating the cars apparent width. The Carbon Black Performance option delivers that striking gloss black accent that continues across the car. Not only do the front and rear grille features get the deep black treatment, but also the distinctive logos on the front and rear. The gloss Carbon Black features continue across the rear in the shape of a sleek, body hugging rear spoiler that completes the performance look and distinguishes this unique model from the rest. As you move further back, your eyes are drawn along more angular lines into the vast, iconic side air intakes that have been a mainstay of the R8’s design from its inception. This clever design not only aids in the cooling of audi.co.uk

AUDI R8 COUPE CARBON BLACK the engine and rear wheels, but works to add to the aggressive look of the car with an accentuated rear end. Wide wheel arches protrude from the otherwise sleek body on all four corners giving even further rise to the notion that this is a serious cornering machine. Anthracite black 20-inch wheels and red brake calipers come as standard under the Carbon Black pack and offer a window on the ceramic brakes - again, a standard feature across the performance models - which now provide even better stopping power taking you from 62mph to a standstill up to 1.5 metres earlier and from 124mph up to five meters shorter than previous. To complete the look, you can now opt for the stunning Kemora Grey - as pictured - or Ascari Blue metallic paint options which have been added to the lineup that perfectly compliment the carbon black features. Inside, the R8 continues to put focus on the driver with its minimalist yet stylish design. Its flat bottomed steering wheel with comprehensive switchgear allows you to access almost everything you need without having to take your eyes off the road. Paired with the impressive Audi Virtual Cockpit which continues to develop, the driver setup couldn’t be more focused on providing the perfect setting for optimal driving.

The Performance Carbon Black package is not restricted to the exterior either. carbon features continue inside to create and even sportier cabin - if that was possible. Sweeping lines and that simplistic interface with stylish toggles and gauges make for a sporty yet comfortable space for both driver and passenger. Audi have also been kind enough to offer up door handles that are sufficient enough to hold on to should you feel like you need it as a passenger. Wireless handset charging through the Audi Phonebox charge pad along with reversing camera and smartphone interface come as standard for maximum driver convenience along with the Audi connect infotainment system which offers one of the most user friendly interfaces on the market. Use the central touch control or access everything touch-free thanks to intuitive voice control. As previously stated, this is a car that is specifically focused on two things: driving fast and the person behind the wheel. As a result, there was little room on the design board to accommodate the likes of rear seats, or even rear luggage space and for that matter, a boot. The front of the car offers up some luggage space, however the capacity for which is limited to say the least.

Complete with fine Nappa leather upholstered sports seats, the interior space now comes with more options than ever thanks to the Audi exclusive range. Customers can opt for contrast stitching, a variety of materials and a whole host of colours to create your perfect car.

This is a car that has been designed and engineered for a maximum of two people to enjoy the open - or closed - road without the desire to indulge in anything other than pure driving pleasure, and it has managed to achieve such a feat in truly stunning fashion.

1969 Mercedes 280 SL ÂŁPOA

Dreamy Drop-Top Produced from 1963 to 1971, the Mercedes-Benz W113 continued the story started by the stunning 190 SL and did so in spectacular fashion. Equally pleasing to the eye, the W113 progressed from the 230 SL and 250 SL before the pinnacle of the platform was introduced in 1967 in the shape of the 280 SL. Delivering the most potent of the models SOHC engines - before being replaced by DOHC units in 1974, the 280 SL finally offered customers with a sufficiently powered sports car. This 2.8-litre in-line 6-cylinder beauty has been expertly restored by renowned marque specialist Nigel Cooper and the result speaks for itself. An example of the highest order, it is presented in one of the most desirable colour combinations of light metallic blue coachwork with magnolia leather interior. It comes complete with its original hard top as well as a new dark

blue mohair soft top for the ultimate Pagoda appeal. Perfect for those warm summer days, the soft top option reveals the stunning interior allowing you to enjoy the open air in truly elegant style. Showing just 45,000 miles, this lovely example comes with an extensive service history file including the (very rare) original service book stamped and MOTs and invoices to suggest that this very low mileage may well be correct. An automatic transmission and power steering along with new chrome front and rear bumpers and a fresh service from marque specialist Steve Redfearn complete this car's mechanical and aesthetic appeal. This is a rare opportunity to purchase what must be the most sought after condition, colour combination and package of a Mercedes Pagoda 280 SL around.

Also, at 2%, this surcharge is lower than the 3% previously indicated though it will be in addition to all other payable SDLT in England and Northern Ireland. Once the surcharge has been introduced next year, London’s ranking on the global stage - in terms of buying, holding and selling costs - will change. The overall cost of a $2 million property for non-resident, second home buyers in London will move above Los Angeles and Paris. Sydney. In particular, the cost of holding property in London is cheap in a global context. As we expected, the Budget did not contain any mention of a cut in the underlying rate of SDLT. We believe that this is unlikely in the short to medium term, given the spending commitments set out by this Government. However, some other buyers had held back purchases in the hope of such a cut and so we saw a number of transactions take place immediately after the Budget. Despite some of the short term headwinds facing the market, in due course we expect those who have been sitting on the fence in the hope of a tax cut to bring more stock to the market, increasing choice for buyers across our prime markets.
