£6.5 million investment boost for London commuters MBNA Thames Clippers has announced the names of two new vessels joining its fleet of 12 high speed catamarans operating across London. Launching in September 2015, Galaxy Clipper and Neptune Clipper will provide additional capacity across the Thames river network. The new boats are the first new additions to the popular fleet since 2008. An investment of £6.5 million by MBNA Thames Clippers, the new boats will be among the most technically advanced Inland River and harbour fast ferries in the world. Featuring a new hull design that reduces resistance, the vessels have been developed with ground breaking engineering allowing them to operate in the unique strong tidal conditions of the River Thames whilst minimalising power. Sean Collins chief executive officer, MBNA Thames Clippers comments: “The arrival of Galaxy Clipper and Neptune Clipper later this year to the MBNA Thames Clippers fleet is not only a major milestone for our business, but also for the London transport network. London is in its infancy compared to other cities in the world when it comes to commuting and travelling by river and we are excited to be leading the way in making more of the River Thames as a key part of the Capital’s infrastructure.” The MBNA Thames Clippers river bus operation carried over 3.8 million passengers in 2014, avoiding the traffic and congestion in key locations such as Blackfriars, Embankment, Canary Wharf and London Bridge.
London Marriott Hotel Park Lane renovation now complete
Both Galaxy Clipper and Neptune Clipper began construction six months ago in Hobart, Australia. Built by Incat Tasmania, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high speed river craft, the two 35 metre passenger vessels are entering the final stages of development before they make the over 10,000 mile journey to London. Designed by Sydney based company ‘One2Three Naval Architects’, the new boats will each seat 150 passengers and offer London’s commuters and visitors a comfortable, relaxed and highly efficient way to get from A to B and to take in the Capital. The boats will be launched onto water for the first time in early July 2015 in Hobart, Australia, and conduct their first water trials in mid-July. They will then depart from Down Under on a heavy lift ship for delivery to London. The journey will take between four to six weeks with the boats arriving in Tilbury on the River Thames mid-August 2015. A program of crew training and trials will commence in Hobart and be completed upon arrival in the UK, ahead of their official launch in September 2015. To name the new boats, earlier this year MBNA Thames Clippers in

China is the biggest car market and it is expected passenger-vehicle sales in 2015 to reach 21.3 million vehicles, growing 8%. With the stock market crisis in June, the future might not be as bright. A crowning achievement in over half a century of virtuoso skills displayed in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking where Piaget reigns supreme, it conveys the excellence of the two integrated Manufactures run by the Maison. Places where the skills of the watchmakers, case constructors and designers converge in giving life to this masterpiece of reliability and precision. Since every technical choice had an aesthetic impact, and vice versa, each of the 145 parts composing the Altiplano 38 mm 900P has been trimmed to a size sometimes barely thicker than a hair’s breadth – including some wheels measuring a mere 0.12 mm thin (compared with 0.20 mm on a classic movement) To underscore the distinctive nature of this creation, the rim of its case-back is engraved with the inscription “Only Watch 2015 – unique piece”. Commenting on this participation, CEO Philippe LéopoldMetzger explains: “The Altiplano 900P powerfully expresses the creativity and innovation that have defined Piaget since 1874. We have created a watch that is truly unique in terms of aesthetic and design, for which we have once again pushed our own limits. It vividly illustrates the Piaget philosophy of placing techniques in the service of design. Having provided sure footing for this legendary marque, the plan was simply to reengage the public with why the story behind Breguet carried such weight. The Tourbillon was essentially a movement within a movement rotating on itself and regulating the time keeping of the mechanism that could be suspect to loss or gain. Visually, the Tourbillon looked like a whirlpool or whirlwind and was named as such in French. The Swatch Group retained the main families of the Breguet brand but in 2005 introduced the Tradition line (pictured). They don’t call them
panerai.com This watch is 45mm in diameter, a real showpiece by virtue of size alone. The movement is spectacular, but it’s the exceptional case design that forced Bell & Ross to exercise some lateral thinking. They opted for a protective front cover of the half-hunter type, so the wearer can see enough of the hands to read the time with it closed. Through the apertures in this fabulously detailed cover, you can read an outer chapter ring marked in 10-minute increments with Arabic numerals, with screw-heads in-between to designate 5-minute intervals. When the cover is closed, the user has access to all the data. Running from the 1 to 5 o’clock and 7 to 11 o’clock are arcs cut through the cover to show two-thirds of the minute hand’s sweep. As most of the minute hand is visible when the cover is closed, the two arcs aren’t really necessary – merely decorative but undeniably attractive. The hour dial, power reserve arc and, yes, the tourbillon are also visible with the protective lid in place. One thing that this region is renowned for is the unique opportunity to swim with our flippered friends and it is something that I cannot recommend enough. A little strange to some, a little scary to others and a little cruel to most, but , if you find the right company, with the right facilities and the right staff ethos, you will have the most fantastic time imaginable. The experience is second only to that in the wild, but offers so much more. The dolphins are so well trained and looked after that you can just appreciate them for their intelligence and beauty rather than worrying about their welfare and get much closer than in the wild...even take a ride! There are so many options with the Iberostar Grand offering that you can really customise your holiday exactly how you want it and the staff will do everything in their power to make it happen. Few places can provide such a well rounded all-inclusive package, especially with the cuisine that is on offer. The location is idyllic to say the least, the staff are exceptionally attentive and helpful and the atmosphere is one that is not only free from the worries of tripping over a small child, but one that manages to balance perfectly those who want to relax and those who want to party. suites starting at appro imatel

Brunch & Summer Menu Popular Thai chain Busaba Eathai have recently launched two new menus – a summer menu across all of their restaurants and a new brunch menu at their recently opened Shoreditch site and newly refurbished Kingston Riverside. In true Busaba style, the new brunch menu offers an authentic Thai twist to the classic brunch with the option of a lighter bite and brunch course with unlimited (and we mean unlimited) Prosecco for just 25. Those who don’t fancy Prosecco can try a cocktail such as the Busaba Bloody Mary and even team it with a Khai luak – a soft boiled free-range egg with gentle Thai seasoning for the ultimate hangover cure. Guests can tuck in between 10am and 3pm on Saturday and Sundays making for a leisurely affair with two hours reserved for seating. Scrumptious dishes include coconut porridge served with sliced banana, ginger spiced pineapple and chilli pandan pancakes and our favourite – Railway Fried Rice which has been inspired by Executive Chef Jude Sangsida’s childhood memories of quick meals on long train trips and is a tasty wok mix of chicken, tomato and Chinese broccoli, topped with a Thai-style fried egg. The new summer menu being offered in all Busaba locations include an exciting array of new fragrant and fresh dishes, including Thai infused salads like the Chicken satay salad with cucumber, baby gem, lime and ginger and Sweet potato fries with Thai seasoning. A Bangkok Lunch Menu, priced at just 9.50 is also ideal if you are looking for a something different to your usual shop bought sandwich. www.busaba.com
Thai Restaurant SUDA Launches its #ShareSUDA Situated in St Martin’s Courtyard, just a stone’s throw from Covent Garden tube station, SUDA, the casual Thai restaurant has recently launched its new ShareSUDA campaign to celebrate their new ‘Small Bowls and Bites’ sharing menu. Bringing together the most popular Thai street food, the menu is ideal for groups of friends looking to explore a wider range of flavours, from the traditional to the more contemporary. The new menu is divided into three parts – from ‘small bites’, ‘small bowls’ to larger dishes – after all not everyone likes to share Dishes on the ‘small bites’ menu include Satay Gai (marinated chicken satay skewer with peanut sauce), Moo Ping (succulent BB
pork with a mild north-eastern
Thai style dip) and Goong Sawan (king prawns in an egg noodle wrap, deep fried in a light-batter). From the ‘small bowls menu’ tempting treats include Gaeng Garee Gae (SUDA’s mild lamb yellow curry) Gaeng Panang Nua (a mini version of their beef panang curry) and for vegetarians Gaeng Kiew Waan Pak (mixed vegetable green curry). Larger dishes available include a delicious Pad Thai. As well as the food menu the drinks offering has had a refresh with a number of new cocktails including a Lemongrass Bellini (fresh lemongrass with Thai ginger, lemon juice charged with prosecco), Pornstar Martini and a Mango and Papaya Drop (vodka shaken with mango puree and fresh papaya, a hint of coriander and fresh lime leaf finished with sugar rim). For those who like their drinks a little less complicated Thai favourites Chang beer and Singha beer are always available alongside a wide wine list which includes a variety of Thai wines too. Founded by highly acclaimed chef Tom Aikens, the site is his fourth restaurant other locations include Canary Wharf and Chelsea and third deli location serving up fantastic quality-led British food and warming classics in a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Each of Tom’s restaurants follow the same ethos with a high emphasis on where food comes from and how it is grown, Tom’s Kitchen is dedicated to using UK-based suppliers and local producers to enable dishes to be created using the very best seasonal and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible at a great price. Take a pew under one of the large parasols and enjoy an assortment of fresh seafood and gourmet British beef burgers while making the most of the glorious summer weather. Even if the weather does turn, as it so often does here in London, The Narrow has it sorted thanks to its light and airy conservatory ensuring you don’t get wet but can still enjoy the view, and also provide extra seating when the terrace is busy without sacrificing the sunshine thanks to the retractable roof. It’s inside the restaurant you can enjoy the excellent value menu. Head Chef Gerald Mirey has created a wonderfully British, seasonal menu that includes a variety of dishes such as Grilled aubergine with quinoa tabbouleh and Nocellera olive salsa – a perfect summer dish, lovely and light with the aubergine still firm and the buttery taste from the Nocellera olives Hand-made Burrata Di Puglia with heritage tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinaigrette one of the largest and best value pieces of Somerset Pork belly we have ever had in London served with caramelised apple and watercress salad at just 16.00 and the classic Narrow beerbattered Haddock fillet with crushed peas, chips and tartare sauce. Sides include must-have Macaroni cheese and Jersey royal potatoes. Finish, if you can, with the staff recommended Banana sticky toffee pudding with Purbeck salted caramel ice cream. The wine list is impressive and the service even more so, with many of the customers regulars. The former Dockmaster’s house can also be reserved for weddings and corporate events, and even more interestingly – especially for locals in the area – there is a private room located upstairs with spectacular views that can be hired for free. Popular dishes include Hand Dived Scallops, smoked aubergine puree, black beans Truffled Macaroni Cheese Beer Battered Pollock and Chips with crushed peas, tartare sauce and lemon and Treacle Marinated Salmon with lemon puree, sea vegetables and pickled cucumber. Alternatively, and ideal for the warm summer weather, guests can choose from the grill menu for a Tom's Kitchen Burger with smoked Applewood cheddar, bacon and gherkins, Cumbrian ribeye steak or Barbecue Baby Chicken. Add a heirloom tomato salad and some triple cooked chips and you’re in for a very satisfying meal. To finish the traditional Eton Mess is to die for and certainly embraces all things British and summery. Each restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and St Katherine Docks is no different, serving a weekend brunch menu too. Champagne Racer 1953 Jaguar XK120 restored for the Monte Carlo Classic Rally A world record breaker in its day, the Jaguar K120 was at the pinnacle of automotive design and production. In 1952, an K120 took the world and Class C 72-hour records at 105.55 mph, world and Class C four-day records at 101.17 mph, Class C 10,000 km record at 107.031 mph, world and Class C 15,000 km records at 101.95 mph, and world and Class C 16,000 km records at 100.65 mph. After some repairs the car went on to then complete the full seven days and nights, covering a total of 27,120.23 km at an average speed of 100.31 mph breaking yet another record. Needless to say, this is a remarkable car to have the opportunity

to own and you will find few in a condition quite like this. With stunning champagne coachwork and a vibrant contrast red interior, it is a head-turner of the highest order. This example is not only an aesthetic pleasure, but it has had a substantial amount of work under the bonnet too. Restored and upgraded to run in the Monte Carlo Classic Rally, this car has a 4.2-litre engine with triple carburettors, lightened flywheel, competition clutch, rack and pinion steering, servo discs on the front, aluminium radiator, upgraded alternator and stainless steel exhausts. ou shouldn’t have too much trouble enjoying the ride. Equally, the work performed on the interior makes for an excellent ride with recently replaced leather bucket seats, interior and carpets which, although contrasting to the coachwork, pair perfectly on this iconic machine. The exterior has clearly received some loving care and the bodywork is in fantastic order. Wire wheels have been recently replaced to finish the look beautifully and complete what is nothing short of a masterpiece. Cars like this are rarely available to purchase on the market, so don’t waste any time if you are interested, because it might not be around for long.

New venue marks 25th anniversary celebration for
The London Homebuilding & Renovating Show Coinciding with the latest report that the South East of the UK has seen
the largest rise in self-builders in 2015 with the numbers increasing by 16% year on year, the up-and-coming London Homebuilding & Renovating Show, sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, is set to attract thousands more visitors at its new spacious and contemporary venue, ExCel, London from 25-27 September. The event this year will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, the show’s media partner and Britain’s best-selling self-build publication, by taking its content off the pages and bringing it to life at the event, supported by new experts, exhibitors, seminars and masterclasses. To commemorate a quarter of a century of publishing for self-builders at the impressive ExCel exhibition centre, the event will showcase how the property market, architectural and design trends, which have shaped the social aspects of the UK families, have evolved over this time. In addition, throughout the three-day event, people who are still unsure how to undertake a project efficiently from inception to fruition will have access to expert guidance and tailored advice at 15-minute consultations, indepth seminars and masterclasses hosted by the UK’s leading property experts and companies. The show’s new location, ExCel London, will see more exhibitors than ever before, with over 350 companies displaying the latest products and services in the market place. For the first time, Gabrielle Blackman, BBC’s ‘DI SOS’ interior specialist, will be making her debut on the London show expert panel to provide attendees with inspiration, advice and recommendations on how to tackle architectural and interior innovations. Gabrielle is a firm believer in vanity decorating and encourages people to opt for colours that suit their personality so she will also be on hand to help visitors add their own stamp to their property. Charlie Luxton, sustainable architectural designer and presenter of More 4’s new ‘Building the Dream’ series, and Julia Kendell, interior design expert and co-presenter of ITV’s ‘Rebuild Our Home’, will return to meet with the London event audience and share their invaluable insight on current industry trends and tips from their latest projects. Topics such as eco living, homes of the future and new architectural ideas will be covered by Charlie on the Friday of the event. Julia will be attending on the Saturday to speak with those looking to find out how they can spruce up their homes through clever interior touches. The Dulux Interior Design Clinic is where attendees will find insightful decoration advice on the latest tonal schemes, wall coverings and furnishing. The company’s roomset at the event will be a real life inspiration corner to demonstrate how colour and patterns can make a real difference to the final appearance of a project. The Ask the Architects zone will be hosted by four experienced members of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) who will be available to provide solutions on how attendees can navigate their building projects and overcome challenges on the way.
