GAUCHO COVENT GARDEN

Thirty-year-old iconic restaurant brand, Gaucho pays tribute to its roots by bringing the vibrancy of Buenos Aires to Covent Garden with its first London opening in over a decade. Located on James Street and just a stone’s throw from the world-famous Royal Opera House, this modern Argentinian restaurant opened its doors at the beginning of June this year and has since become a popular venue that has something for everyone.

Boasting the highest quality steaks and Latin American fare enhanced by a secret world of late-night dancing, signature cocktails and DJ performances, this superlative restaurant brings all the vibrancy of Buenos Aires to the streets of London. Drawing inspiration from the artistic spaces of Covent Garden and the captivating tango theatres of Buenos Aires, the restaurant is layered with iconic design statements that reflect the cultural roots of the locality, while the base palette draws influence from its Argentinian origins.

As the sun sets on Friday and Saturday nights, guests can descend the staircase into a glamourous 1930’s inspired world to discover seductive secret tango shows and a speakeasy cocktail bar. Here they can enjoy a darker, more theatrical atmosphere offering an intimate dining experience with pleated curtain wall details inspired by the drapery from West End theatres. From 10.30pm until the early hours, the venue will offer live music, DJs and tango performances, best enjoyed alongside Latin-laced dishes, seasonal cocktails and a unique wine list which specialises in Latin America and its world origins.

Upstairs on the ground floor and terrace, it’s an all-day affair. Boasting a bright and welcoming atmosphere, the beautifully designed dining room reflects inspirations from the Andes mountains, Las Pampas estancias and the golden era of art deco train travel. Open from 8am to midnight, Gaucho offers breakfast daily, an outstanding value set lunch and pre-theatre menu plus an à la carte menu of modern Argentinian fare, designed by Chef Mike Reid. A perfect place to go for a relaxed breakfast, working lunches or afternoon drinks.

The main performance, however, comes from Gaucho’s signature selection of showstopping sustainable steaks, in a variety of carbonneutral cuts, sourced from Argentinian, premium Black-Angus cattle bred at partner farms. Other contemporary Argentine-inspired dishes include beef empanadas; sea bass ceviche; and grilled spatchcock chicken in a spicy ancho chilli marinade.

London’s latest all-day dining, drinking and dancing destination reflects the passion, people, lifestyle, culture and rich food and wine offering of modern-day Argentina and brings an unforgettable experience to the heart of Theatreland.
