The fabulous world of Dior at Harrods
In honour of the friendship forged between the House and Harrods over the past seventy years, Dior has opened The Fabulous World of Dior, a spectacular presentation illuminating the hallowed halls of the legendary Harrods department store.
With a magnetic Shepherd’s Star, placed as a central sculpture – erected to the height of seventeen meters, the building’s largest to date –, visitors will discover two unprecedented pop-up stores that draw their decor from the most beautiful Christmas fairytales, adorned with a multitude of original creations, specially designed for the event.
This enchanting pause in time reveals a thousand surprises, including a poetic exhibition* reproducing, in an amazing play on scale and proportion, the architecture of Dior’s iconic locations – from Granville to La Colle Noire, via 30 Montaigne. To end this dreamlike voyage into the heart of the Dior odyssey, the Maison has also launched the Café Dior at Harrods, in homage to British culture and the pleasure of receiving guests, dear to Monsieur Dior.

With one exception, all complications reveal their purpose visually. Chronographs, perpetual calendars, GMT’s - every type requires a display. The exception to the rule are complications which convey information with sound: watches which chime the hour, the quarter or the minute. For the first time, this most elevated of functions has been made accessible by Christopher Ward, with the aptly-named C1 Bel Canto.
Chiming on the hour, Bel Canto challenges the watchmaker in two ways beyond non-sounding complications. The first is to create an audible note from so small a device. The laws of acoustics are immutable, and the assembly which contains the striking elements must be able to deliver a ring that its wearer can hear, even on the wrist. The second challenge, one which does not apply to the chiming watch’s cousin, the alarm watch, is that it must produce a melodious note. Alarm watches need only alert the wearer, usually with a raucous ring.
What enabled Christopher Ward to produce the Bel Canto, without abandoning its value-based ideology, was lateral thinking on the part of master watchmaker Frank Stelzer. It occurred to Frank that the module in the JJ01 calibre in Christopher Ward’s earlier jumping hour watch, the C9 Harrison of 2011, could be adapted to chime on the hour. This enabled the development of the module for the Bel Canto’s Calibre FS01, with the addition of 50 new components.
With a generously-sized titanium gong surrounding the movement, its hammers viewed from the dial side, the C1 Bel Canto can be left in the “on” position to ring on each hour, or set to “off” from the same button at the 4 o’clock position. Ringing status is indicated by a small red arrow adjacent to the button. With the hours and minutes dial contained at 12 o’clock, the entire mechanical ballet is on view at all times.
Finished in Azzurro blue, the C1 Bel Canto heralds - with sound - a new chapter in the Christopher Ward saga.

A Unique Perspective of Time
CODE41 has unveiled its most audacious project to date - the Mecascape. The Creator Edition, codename Sublimation One, opens a new chapter in the history of watchmaking. Boasting a one-of-a-kind format, a visionary design and an achievement in excellence, this open-heart mechanical landscape promises timepiece lovers an unprecedented experience.
Twelve years after the creative spark, the Mecascape is reinventing our relationship with time. Pushing the limits of watchmaking and aspiring to give time a new look, this timepiece is freed from the traditional frameworks and dimensions. In refusing to be tied down to the wrist, the Mecascape does more than venture off the beaten track: a genius pioneer, it paves the best way towards a brand new form of horological expression. Exploiting the potential of its unusual dimensions to the maximum, before your very eyes it deploys an immense mechanical landscape.
An exclusive movement, designed and manufactured entirely in Switzerland, whose harmony is based on the golden ratio and whose architectural challenges have deprived more than one engineer of their sleep. Ultra-slim, light and elegant, the Mecascape enjoys an exemplary ergonomic design and an adaptive use. Sedentary and nomadic, it adapts to your lifestyle, according to your desires.
The mechanical movement is a one-of-a-kind example of fine watchmaking. The Mecascape has a wealth of components, 237 in total, including 39 jewels, which spread out over a plate with unprecedented dimensions of 98x60mm, the masterful arrangement of which can be admired down to the smallest detail.
In order to prevent any risk of torsion without forgoing the lightness of the case, CODE41 has opted for the best of the best. Grade 5 titanium, used in the aerospace and medicine industries, grants the Mecascape a dream case, light, robust and supremely elegant. Apart from the titanium structure, the Mecascape’s protection is also ensured on the front
with an immense scratch-proof sapphire glass with anti-reflective treatment, for optimal ease of use in any situation, and enhanced at night by a SuperLumiNova® treatment applied to the hands and dials.
Weighing 198 grams and only 8.1mm thick, the Mecascape is still no less made for the spectacular, and serves up the euphoria of large spaces by sporting a total of five counters: hours, minutes, seconds and alternative time zone for the travellers at heartwithout forgetting the indicator for the power reserve, which provides eight days of autonomy.
As comfortable on your travels as at home, the Mecascape doesn’t confine itself to any specific use, and can adapt to any environment and lifestyle. Its owner might, as they choose, slip it into a jacket pocket and carry it in their comings and goings, or use it to adorn a desk with style and elegance thanks to its very own stand. In order to protect the Mecascape from impacts and scratching as you’re out and about, it is accompanied by a highquality Italian leather holder, lined with microfibre and offering a notch on the back for storing a bank or business card.
SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH LONGEVITY
Bamford London and Land Rover have harnessed their shared commitment to design and precision to create the limited-edition LR001 watch. Like the incomparable SUV that inspired it, the LR001 is a creative endeavour for adventurous hearts. Designed by the team at Land Rover and built by Bamford London, just 100 examples are available worldwide.
Reflecting the Defender design language, the LR001 combines restrained surfaces with inherent capability. Built to last with a 40mm titanium case and a premium Sellita SW200-1b automatic movement, with a refined ruthenium anthracite finish it embodies sustainability through longevity.
Encased in grey titanium, the visually engaging design has a toned grey cut-away dial that highlights its technical precision. Underneath the cutaway dial is the hidden luminescence, emitting a subtle green hue for low-light use. It features subtle ‘LR001’ text in Bamford’s signature aqua blue at six o’clock on the dial.
Four resilient bio-based 18mm straps are available, in black, navy, light tan and dark tan. Each one is a sustainable alternative to traditional leather. The black, light tan and dark tan options are created from corn-derived sustainable PU leather, while the navy option is made of Cordoba, a woven recycled nylon coated

George Bamford, Founder & CEO, Bamford London said: I am proud and excited to reveal this collaboration inspired by one of the world’s most iconic vehicles, the Defender. The grey dial on a fixed lug, grey titanium case is the first iteration of the LR001. I have a long-standing relationship with Land Rover and I am honoured to work with the design team as we unveil our first watch.”
Prof Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Officer, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Created with intrinsic longevity and encompassing Defender’s reductive character, the LR001 has a compelling design which is precisely executed though its refined and crafted

Excalibur Double Tourbillon White Ceramic Limited to 8 Pieces £ 242,000 from Roger Dubuis | rogerdubuis.comWHITE CERAMIC
Taking ceramic from raw form to the distinctive case Roger Dubuis is known for is a genuinely bold undertaking. A refusal to compromise on the Maison’s signature shape requires the entire manufacturing process to be overhauled. With ceramic four times harder to harness than stainless steel, and its finishing taking 15 times longer than crafting the same case from gold, only the most dedicated and skilled dare to take on such a task. Hyperresistant to daily scratches and refusing to tarnish over time, Roger Dubuis’ ceramic timepieces combine hyper durability with hyper expressivity.
Featuring two tourbillons linked by a centred differential that increases accuracy while maximising the transmission of energy, the technical prowess of the RD108 calibre shines through. With a titanium lower tourbillon cage, twice lighter than stainless steel, the weight of the piece is reduced to optimum effect. Proving no detail goes unconsidered, non-magnetic material is also used inside the tourbillon to better serve the wearer and improve their experience. Such technical choices allow the power reserve to be radically optimised to 72 hours, providing the option of leaving the watch unworn over weekends without the worry of resetting when Monday comes.
Clean cut lines on both the 45mm case and movement create its strong visual identity and give the impression of a thinner look and feel. In remastering the Roger Dubuis star, repositioned to levitate freely above the barrel, a heightened sense of transparency and depth is also created. This dynamic aesthetic is rewarded with the
Poinçon de Genève, one of the most demanding signature in fine watchmaking and one that requires the manual decoration of each and every component of the watch.
The expressive and modern lines of the iconic Excalibur Double Tourbillon are amplified through a series of curated aesthetic choices. Opting for a design that is undeniably distinctive and sophisticated, the radiant white ceramic case is paired with a precious EON GOLD™ bezel, crown, and case-back. This design is further enhanced by a coated pink gold signature star, hour markers, and indexes, themselves applied on a white Mineral Composite Fibre (MCF) flange. A perfect colour match for the refined white case is found in the embossed white calf-leather strap, featuring a patented Quick Release System for ultimate versatility.
Adding a playful dimension, SuperLumiNova is applied with extreme precision to the signature star and the tourbillon cages so they shine in the dark. Applied directly on tilted angles without having to be framed inside a closed space, the technique requires extreme craftsmanship that can only be mastered by the most skilled. Coated in the same glowing matter, the hour markers and tips of the hands are made visible at night.
With just 8 pieces available, this exceptional creation can only be owned by a lucky few. The Excalibur Double Tourbillon White Ceramic edition is the latest step forward in Roger Dubuis’ quest for hyper performance, mastery of materials, and standout design. It is proof that the Maison has and always will offer the most exciting way to experience Hyper Horology™.

Panerai is a trusted companion of explorers setting out for territories few dare to pursue, from the desolate reaches of the North Pole to forbidding dives hundreds of meters below the surface of the sea and expeditions to the distant abyss of outer space. The brand remains unwavering in its focus on creating instruments that are dependable in treacherous conditions and continues to invent novel solutions to enhance their performance. However, Panerai also challenges itself to push limits and defy expectations in the realm of design codes. With the launch of the Panerai Luminor Due TuttoOro collection, Panerai reveals its first watches featuring gold bracelets. Imbuing one of the most elegant watches in the Panerai portfolio with a greater aura of luxury, slim contours and a tailored, uncomplicated style distinguish Luminor Due and allow it to transition from the most casual occasions to formal wear and complement wearers of any gender. The 38mm case and bracelet are forged from Panerai Goldtech™, incorporating high copper content and platinum. Panerai Goldtech™ is a material that is integral to the Panerai identity. Copper contributes to the deep, red tone of the metal, while the platinum content ensures the colour will remain radiant and true.
The legacy of the brand’s renowned crown protection device contributes to the bracelet’s design. Each link takes the profile of the iconic mechanism and applications of adjacent polished and brushed finishes giving it added dimension. While the rectangular segment of each link has a polished finish, the rounded areas display a brushed surface.
These stunning pieces feature a sun-brushed sandwich dial, a subtly textured surface that moves light along its expanse with the barest motion, and displays minutes, hours, small seconds and the date. It is available in two colours, a clean, sophisticated white and deep, marine blue; the latter sold exclusively in Panerai boutiques.
The automatic calibre P.900 powers the Panerai Luminor Due TuttoOro, measuring only 4.2mm thick, it is the first Panerai movement of its size to combine the date function and a threeday power reserve. As with all Panerai watches, the Luminor Due TuttoOro is water-resistant and despite the less rugged appearance, will still allow you to travel to depths of around 30 metres. It also includes a tool to allow interchangeability of the bracelet should you wish to reserve the beautiful gold appearance for specific occasions.

The Party Season “Holiday Glow” Facial Celluma + Obagi Radiance Peel
In the heart of London’s medical district, award-winning Waterhouse Young Clinic has gained a reputation as one of London’s leading skin clinics. Established in 2012 and one of the first medical aesthetic clinics, they specialise in personalised treatment plans to rejuvenate and restore youthful radiance through clinically proven treatments whilst maintaining natural beauty.
As the name suggests, Waterhouse Young’s iconic 3-in-1 Party Season Holiday Glow Facial is the perfect treatment to get you glowing before any big event. Their exclusive Celluma LED Light Therapy, lymphatic drainage Pressotherapy plus celebrity loved Obagi Radiance Peel is a pain-free treatment offering instant, visible results in just 45minutes with minimal downtime (30 minutes redress post-treatment and dry/flaking skin on day two).
When it comes to refreshing and hydrating skin, HydraFacial is one Waterhouse Young’s most effective treatments and it has been rated the best in London. It’s the perfect way to boost hydration with instant results.
The HydraFacial is a non-invasive skin resurfacing and rejuvenating treatment that combines powerful cleansing and exfoliation, as well as unparalleled hydration with additional antioxidant protection.
To maximise the effects of the HydraFacial, the treatment is taken to the next level by ending with the award-winning FDA approved hightech Celluma Pro LED device. LED light therapy works by sending light waves deep into the skin to activate natural intracellular reactions. For best results, an anti-ageing Led light therapy mask is left on for thirty minutes while you relax and enjoy a Pressotherapy treatment. Using three scientifically proven wavelengths of light energy (including blue, red and near infrared) simultaneously, it’s possible to obtain a whole host of benefits including the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles, improvement in scarring and hyperpigmentation, promoting circulation, preventing breakouts, and general skin brightening.
In the form of a mechanical massage body suit, Pressotherapy is a cutting-edge, pain free treatment designed to enhance the flow of
Waterhouse Young Clinic, 21 Devonshire Street, W1G 6PB
your lymphatic system, improve circulation and enhance deep detoxification. This revolutionary process gives your body’s natural functions a boost, kick-starting your circulation to debloat, remove toxins and re-energise the body naturally.
The final step in this 3-in-1 treatment is the celebrity loved Obagi Radiance Peel which is safe and effective and leaves you with an instant, visible glow. A skin peel tackles issues at the cellular level rather than just exfoliating the skin’s top layer. A unique combination of lactic, salicylic and glycolic acids is used to refine pores, reduce acne, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. By effectively exfoliating the uppermost damaged skin layers, the skin is left looking and feeling fresh, renewed and radiant. The result is smoother, tighter and brighter skin.
The treatment is priced at £325 for 1 x Holiday Glow Facial; or £1,625 for a course of 6 (6 for the price of 5).

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
1 x 900ml Ceramic Pudding Basin | 1 x 25cm Square Muslin Cloth | 1 x 16cm Diameter Circle of Greaseproof Paper Butchers String | A Large Plastic Container with Lid (must hold min 12kg and must be clean and sanitised)
INGREDIENTS
makes approximately one large pudding
120g Sultanas | 120g Currants | 120g Raisins | 30g Glace Cherries (chopped) | 30g Mixed Peel (chopped) | 30g Prunes (chopped) | 50g Cooking Apples (grated) | 30g Carrots (grated) | 35g Oranges - Zest & Juice (weight of fruit pre-zesting and juicing) 5g Lemons - Zest & Juice (weight of fruit pre-zesting and juicing) | 60g Plain Flour | 25g Ground Almonds | 90g Breadcrumbs
55g Brown Sugar | 8g Salt | 2g Mixed Spice | 2g Nutmeg (finely grated) | 8g Crystallised Ginger (grated) | 2g Ground Cinnamon | 15ml Golden Syrup | 10ml Cognac | 25ml Guinness | 18ml Bitters | 10ml Madeira | 10ml Sherry | 8ml Rum 15ml Milk | 1 Whole Egg | 85g Suet
METHOD
Into your large container place the dried fruits - sultanas, currents, raisins, glace cherries, chopped prunes - cover these with all of the alcohol - congnac, Guinness, madeira, sherry, bitters, rum - add in the zest and juice of the oranges and lemons and leave this at room temperature for 48hrs in an air tight container.
You will need a large sanitised surface for the next stage. Firstly mix all of the dry ingredients - plain flour, suet, ground almonds, brown sugar, salt, bread crumbs, mixed spice, cinnamon, nutmeg - once well mixed add in mixed fruit peel, grated carrot, apples and crystallised ginger.
It is important that at each stage you mix until everything is incorporated and evenly distributed throughout the mix.
Next create a well in the middle of the dry mixture, into the middle add the dried fruit and alcohol that has been macerating for 48hr. On top of this add the golden syrup, eggs and milk. Starting from the edges slowly start to mix all the ingredients together.
You really need to mix this well and take your time to ensure
there are no dry clumps and everything is well incorporated. Once the mix is made, place into your large sanitised plastic container, cover with grease proof paper first pushing out as much air as possible and then cover with the lid. Leave this in a cool dry place for 48hr, like a dry store, larder or pantry.
After the 2 days, place the mix into the ceramic pudding containers, ensuring there are no air pockets within the mix. Place the cut circles of greaseproof on top of each pudding, then place the muslin cloth over the top, around the small lip on the side of the bowl tie tightly with the butcher’s string. Pull the opposite corners of the muslin up above the bowl and tie in a bow - repeat with the other two corners. Then steam the puddings for 4hr.
Leave these in the larder (or a cool dry place) for a minimum 3 months to mature.
When it comes to the day of serving, steam the puddings for a further 90min. Allow to rest for 20min before serving. Remove from the bowl and flambé with some cognac. Serve with lashings of custard and vanilla ice cream.

The season of parties, gatherings and merriment has begun and it’s time to stock up on the best Champagnes to serve with all your Christmas favourites. What better way to commemorate the end of the year than with Champagne, the drink that embodies celebration!
Importantly, Champagne is not restricted to being just for welcome drinks or an after-dinner toast, it has a unique versatility that means it can be enjoyed throughout and at every stage of your Christmas meal. Of course, Champagne is naturally a sparkling start to any meal and makes for a fabulous apéritif but by nature, it is a refreshing wine and can enhance the array of sweet, rich, and nutty flavours in a traditional Christmas Lunch. As a bonus, the beautiful bottle, the distinctive pop of the cork and the lively effervescence add an additional layer of excitement to an already anticipated day.

harvest. These Champagnes are matured for a minimum of three years but are usually matured for four to ten and exhibit nutty and toasted aromas, as well as honey and stewed fruits. The calibre of these wines and the complexity bought to them by ageing makes them a wonderful companion to your golden Christmas turkey, or any choice of poultry that acts as the centre piece for your Christmas spread.
The cheese course
Cheese is celebrated and adored on Christmas Day, and it is crucial to choose the right drink to pair with this not-to-beforgotten course.
Rosé Champagne is the one to choose with its round fruitiness and berry aromas, which are an effective pairing to cheeses such as Perroche, Ragston, Spenwood and Berkeswell.
Dessert
To complete the Christmas feast, dessert and Champagne pairings are essential to master. When it comes to dessert there are endless possibilities but, a sweeter style of Champagne such as a Demi-sec and Sec work beautifully. A chocolate Yule log or a dark chocolate Pavlova smothered with fresh cream and raspberries are excellent options.

temper SHOREDITCH
Smokehouse experts, temper have launched their latest site in Shoreditch and with it, one of the most indulgent Sunday roasts in the City. Focussing on the quality of the produce and how it's prepared and cooked to ensure only the very best reaches the table, temper Shoreditch continues the ethos set out from the launch of their first restaurant.
Unlike most other meat restaurants, temper purchase the majority of the meat from small farms and butcher in house, in full view. This means less cattle per week to serve the same amount of food as a like for like restaurant and you get to experience every step of the journey.
When it comes to the roast, it is a whole experience in itself. Served only on a Sunday, there are a number of options for you to choose, but really only one that you should to full appreciate the offering - the Family Style Three Beast Feast. This two person roast is as described in the title, served on a huge platter, you will find aged beef roast, roasted pork and succulent smoked lamb shoulder. All accompanied by a plethora of sides including beef fat roast potatoes, a selection of roast vegetables,
braised red cabbage and of course, Yorkshire puddings.
If you think you can handle it, you can opt for some extras of any of the accompaniments as well as a delectable four cheese cauliflower. Alternatively, they do also offer a snack menu which you can enjoy with an aperitif pre-feast. The aged beef nachos are delicious, but beware, you will only need one to share and little else if you choose to go for the sharing feast.
Individual roasts are also available featuring roast aged beef with horseradish cream; smoked and pulled lamb shoulder with mint; smoked pork belly with smoked apple sauce; and smoked baby chicken with chimichurri, each equally sufficient in stature.
The quality of the produce and cooking really shines through and the whole experience with the impressive open kitchen is only enhanced further by the restaurant's distinctive atmosphere. Of course, you can enjoy the restaurant at any time during the week to explore the spectacular meat on offer, but if you're after a relaxed Sunday spot that will fill a substantial hole, there are few places that can do it better.

ANTIQUE ASTON
The DB series is iconic and this early example from the line is a rare gem that could be yours. Aston Martin's DB 2/4 MkI delivers the instantly recognisable aesthetic of the marque especially when presented in this distinctive colour.
Ushering in a new era for the marque and the electric car market as a whole, the impressive BMW iX brings a fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) to the stable based on a new, modular, scalable toolkit on which the BMW Group plans to use in building their future. The system, developed specifically for purely electric vehicles, utilises sustainable manufacturing techniques and allows for adaptability across market segments.
The iX however arrives at the top of the tree with regard to current operating range and luxurious finish on both the exterior and spacious interior. Is this then the ultimate electric driving machine? They've certainly put plenty of development behind it with flagship technologies aplenty pushing the boundaries of what drivers can expect from their new electric car. From performance to comfort and style, there's a whole lot of car to admire.
iX is the first model to feature the latest generation iDrive and is available in two varieties: the xDrive40 boasting 326PS and a range of up to 257 miles; and xDrive50 which features a considerably more impressive 523PS and range of up to 380 miles, meaning your range-phobia can be left in the past. Both are equipped with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system meaning the iX becomes the first ever all-wheel-drive pure electric BMW to be manufactured and it's not just words. In the real-world, the combination of potent all-electric power and impressive traction in the xDrive50 make for a swift zero-to-sixty-two mile per hour time of just 4.6 seconds and progressive acceleration all the way to an electronically restricted 124mph. What's more, despite its size, maximum performance is available immediately allowing for that lightning sharp acceleration which is available at any speed.
This impressive electric all-wheel-drive system is able to deliver exactly the right amount of drive torque to the front and rear wheels when required, should you be driving on dry tarmac or a snow covered lane. Its intelligent control allows for fully variable power transmission from highly efficient pure rear-wheel driving to that all-wheel-drive set-up to maximise traction when the conditions require.
Ideal for the winter months and adverse weather conditions that come with it, a near-actuator wheel slip limitation technology is fitted in tandem with the all-wheel drive system for the first time. Integrated into the motor management, the system produces very precise and exceptionally fast corrective inputs to ensure the car maintains traction in any driving situation. This not only allows for safe, comfortable driving in the wet, but also aids in the cars
accelerative performance from standing, maximising the power transfer onto the road.
BMW's eDrive technology fitted in the iX - in its fifth generation guise - focuses on a drive unit which combines the electric motor, power electronics and transmission within a single housing. The highly integrated system is beneficial for both power density and efficiency, while at the same time making the most use of the available space in the area between the front and rear axle reducing any impact on the interior.
The dual electrically excited synchronous motors at the heart of the iX's performance allow for maximum torque delivery on tap instantaneously on pulling away while also being able to maintain it over an extremely broad rev range. With the biggest real-world benefits of this to be seen when overtaking.

" It wouldn't be an innovative, forward-thinking car bringing a new era to BMW driving if it weren't packed full of additional technologies. Across the vast, sprawling driver interface and sleek integrated switchgear, you can dive deep into every aspect of this cars capabilities."
Despite quite evidently not being a supercar, the iX's structure, design and chassis tuning offers distinctly sporty handling while simultaneously delivering a comfortable ride for passengers. This is largely thanks to weight reduction in the roof, sides and rear of the car with the use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic to lower the vehicles centre of gravity along with the battery positioning in the underbody creating even weight distribution adding to the cars surprising agility. Its striking design is also optimised aerodynamically to help improve efficiency and range boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.25.
It wouldn't be an innovative, forward-thinking car bringing a new era to BMW driving if it weren't packed full of additional technologies. Across the vast, sprawling driver interface and sleek integrated switchgear, you can dive deep into every aspect of this cars capabilities. From entertainment and climate control to the abundance of safety technologies which come as standard, you could sit for hours in the luxuriously comfortable drivers seat adapting settings to suit your needs. Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, climate comfort windscreen, four-zone air conditioning, heated front seats and wireless phone charging all come as standard for you to enjoy and play around with.
The expanded capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant feature on an all-new 12.3-inch curved information display and 14.9-inch control display which are housed together behind a glass surface that is angled towards the driver making interaction with your car easier than ever.
However, you can just as easily step inside, switch on the futuristic, Star Trek'esque iX and head off on your travels. Be it long or short, the impressive battery range is complemented with flexible charging that is designed to be as convenient as possible. DC power can be taken on at a rate of up to 195 kW allowing for super quick charging from 10 to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes meaning you won't have to spend hours on the road without actually being 'on the road'.
To maximise the range, iX also features adaptive and individually regulated recuperation which allows you to adjust the amount of energy recuperation at the touch of a button. In standard drive position D, the active recuperation will detect road situations through the navigation and drive assist systems and change the intensity of recuperation as necessary. For example, when approaching a junction, the degree of recuperation can be increased, working to feed energy back into the high-voltage battery while harnessing the deceleration effect at the same time while on the open road, the coasting function can take over, allowing the car to “freewheel” with no drive power, whenever the driver eases off the accelerator.
Technology is evidently at the forefront of iX's DNA with everything from adaptive safety features and that impressive drive system to driver functionality and digital integration. However it's not just behind the scenes where the technology shines through. Inside, you are welcomed into a luxuriously comfortable world. A spacious lounge-style interior with a very contemporary feel has been meticulously designed with newly developed seats featuring integral head restraints at its
heart. The absence of a centre tunnel allows for extra legroom and plenty of space for both storage and a centre console designed in the style of a high-quality piece of furniture. The control panel with active haptic input as well as a rocker switch for gear selection adds further, futuristic touches.
Clean, sharp lines distinguish the technology interfaces from the comfort aspects of the interior space, with a polygonal steering wheel the amalgamation of the two, featuring a soft yet straightlined wheel and precisely crafted integrated switchgear.
As standard, iX comes with an impressive Harman Kardon entertainment system, but should you be a keen music fan and desire a sound experience that is even more concert hall-like, then the optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System is the only choice to make. This system features speakers integrated out of sight in the head restraints and a 4D Audio function using bass shakers in the front seats.
An automatic climate control system comes with a nanofibre filter to purify the air and new touchscreen controls, intelligently combining interior ventilation and surface, seat and steering wheel heating to maximise the occupants’ comfort.
Comfort and performance have been perfectly balanced in creating the iX and it certainly sets a benchmark for the Sport Activity Vehicle market. Luxury meets functionality in a way many all-electric cars currently can't match and with an M60 variant iX in the pipeline, there is more to come from the German marque.
OLD SCHOOL ASTON
This grand tourer from Aston Martin was produced from 1953 to '57, replacing the DB2 on which it was based. Available in drophead coupé, two-seat fixed-head coupé and 2+2 hatchback saloon - as with this example - the DB 2/4 featured a wraparound windscreen, larger bumpers, and repositioned headlights. Its curved body was designed by 17 year old draftsman John Turner.
Just 565 MkI models were produced across the three body styles including this saloon example. Originally featuring the Lagonda straight-6 engine, designated the VB6E, it was initially the same dual overhead cam straight-6 designed by W. O. Bentley from the Vantage version of the DB2. However this 1954 Saloon example features the updated 2.9-litre VB6J version, raising power to 140hp and increasing its maximum speed to 120mph.
Presented in the stunning combination of Sea Green coachwork with a chic beige leather interior, complete with classic wooden steering wheel, this is a fine example of an early DB model that you won't find very often.
This impressive car ran the Mille Miglia in 2015 and comes with FIVA identification and Mille Miglia clock. It also has a huge service file detailing the engine rebuilt to VB6E specifications, body restoration, retrim and more in 2011 by specialist Terry Hoyle with invoices and photos to show all the works carried out. It has details in the file of all of its owners and previous MOTs and receipts.
Period Drama
Offering every style and era of property architecture imaginable, London is the a melting pot of design, but how do you create period features in a property that might not quite match up with your desired style? Savills Interior Services have all the answers.
Bold patterns and colours are a go-to recipe for dramatic effect when it comes to decorating and furnishing a house or flat. But if you’re looking to inject some period drama back into your home, first check out the finer details and physical features of the room.
Emphasising these helps create an authentic style, indicative of the era. Whether that’s the start of floor-to-ceiling Victoriana or the setting for a more eclectic blend of vintage and modern, how far you take it is up to you.
Charlotte Hodges-Peck, of Savills Interior Services gives her top tips to help make the most of your home’s architectural character:
with Charlotte Hodges-Peck, Savills Interior ServiceGeorgian
Georgian homes are often characterised by their symmetry, large proportions and high ceilings, which in itself creates a sense of drama. To accentuate the era, ornate cornicing, ceiling roses and moulded plaster painted in white, used against richer colours, are a great way to realise a sense of grandeur, particularly in rooms used to entertain. Long drape curtains, plush furniture in rich colours and maximalist wallpapers of a botanical design, as well as pendant lighting, all encourage an intimate but impactful feeling.
Regency
Regency houses and apartments have a period feel that is easy to complement through interior design. Typically found in city locations such as London, Bristol, Bath and Brighton, these homes are often packed with period charm. With a focus on letting light in, warm and pale neutrals are best used, enhanced by accessories like mirrors that reflect light and high ceiling lights to help draw the eye up. Creating a sociable seating area with facing sofas and an ottoman or coffee table helps generate a feeling of richesse.
Victorian
While more streamlined in their style, Victorian terraced houses offer plenty of opportunities to create period drama. To achieve this, panelling and dado rails can be reinstated easily, adding depth and detail to a room. Dual-tone walls, fabrics like velvet or brushed cotton as well as stair runners, complete with brushed gold stair rods, are also easy ways to incorporate opulence. Victorian homes are synonymous with their tiled hallways, so if you can restore or recreate this, it will help ensure that the property is true to its era.
Art deco
Synonymous with geometric design, symmetry, bold colours and metallic details, 1920s homes offer retro charm in abundance. While statement mirrors, sleek lines and lighting are true design icons of the age, rich jewel-toned furniture with soft scallop edges paired with patterned wallpapers and brushed metal accents help add that period glamour - especially in bedrooms and living rooms. A brushed metal drinks trolley would also add a sense of opulence and sophistication to any setting.
Mid century
Less ornate and rather more practical in their build, 1950s interiors signalled regeneration and offered an opportunity for homeowners to experiment with design, post-World War II. Statement furniture pieces, many of which took influence from Scandinavia, are indicative of this time and can be paired with pops of brighter colour and abstract patterns to create that mid-century drama. Keeping the pallet to a single colour or combining complementary neutral tones will see this interior stay current for years to come.
New build
The world is your oyster when it comes to creating a period feel in a newly built property - however, it’s important to incorporate character that complements the space and modern edge. Adding reclaimed doors and older pieces of furniture, particularly cabinets and rolled-leg sofas, will help elevate your space. Using antique fireplaces, upholstered lamp shades, pendant lights and contrasting textures through soft furnishings adds another element of depth to the space and helps blend the old and the new. Roll-top baths are a great way of creating a sense of luxury, even in the smallest of rooms.

I started my property career working for an independent estate agent in the Wapping area. Since 1994 I have been based in and around East London. I started my own company in 1995 and it has grown from humble beginnings to become a well respected sales, lettings and property management agency operating in the Docklands and East London areas. Then in 2007, I opened my first branch in the Medway area. I am proud that we now have three branches in Kent. My operation is set to expand in 2020 and beyond.
I am a long term member of both the NAEA and ARLA and a former Regional Representative for the latter. As the owner of a growing residential and commercial property portfolio, I understand well the trials and tribulations that property owners go through. I have well over 20 years experience of regenerative Dock’s areas and specialise in new development reporting.
I am happy to advise you on all aspects of property. So, if you are looking at your first buy-to-let (even if it is with another agency), or have trouble with a tenant, feel free to contact me. I offer honest and impartial advice.
Ioften get asked what is going to happen to Docklands house prices.
Many things affect house prices, and it comes down to simple supply and demand.
On the supply side of the equation, in the short-term, the number of people wanting to sell their property at any one time has a massive effect on house prices.
In 2007, the number of properties that came onto the market in Docklands jumped drastically. In January 2007, 1,413 properties were available for sale in Docklands and by October in the same year, that had risen to 2,130 properties.
This flooded the Docklands market with houses to buy whilst, at the same time, the banks almost stopped lending money because of the Credit Crunch, thus causing the house price crash of 2008.
Also, on the supply side of the equation is the total number of houses in the whole country (irrespective of whether they are on the market or not). This is an essential factor in house prices, although that has a longer-term effect. Governments can control the number of properties being built with changes in planning regulations, incentives for builders and the buyer schemes such as the Help to Buy plan.
On the demand side of the equation, property values typically rise if homeowners believe they will be wealthier in the future.
Typically, that occurs when the whole country’s economy is performing well as more Brits are in work and salaries are higher. The opposite is also the case when the economy goes into recession; people tighten their spending, lose their jobs, and thus, house prices drop. Inflation will affect British household budgets (because if more of the household budget is going on increased bills, there is less available for
mortgage payments).
Another factor on the demand side for housing is when the population increases (through people living longer or increasing net migration) or when the divorce rate increases (making one family household into two single-person households). As always, rising demand typically means higher house prices.
One aspect of the demand side of housing that the Government can control is the taxation of moving home. In the late spring of 2020, the Government vastly reduced the tax (Stamp Duty) paid to buy a house, saving many home buyers thousands of pounds.
Also, on the demand side, property values usually increase if more homebuyers can borrow more money with a mortgage to buy their home.
The more banks and building societies can offer mortgages, the more homebuyers can buy their future home, thus raising house prices.
However, the constraint is the amount a home buyer can borrow on a mortgage. What someone can borrow depends on what they earn and if they can afford the monthly mortgage payments. The level of mortgage payments is dependent on three things.
1. How much you borrow
2. The interest rate charged
3. The length of the mortgage
The lower the interest rates are, the lower the cost of borrowing to pay for your house is and thus more people can afford to borrow money with a mortgage to buy a home, meaning house prices tend to go up.
Docklands house prices have risen by 77.57% between 2010 and today, mainly fuelled by low interest rates.
So, looking at everything above, apart from Stamp Duty and the incentives for buyers (which historically
What will Rishi Sunak as PM mean for Docklands house prices?
have made a minimal difference), the Government in the shortterm, irrespective of who the Prime Minister is, makes little difference directly to house prices.
The most significant short-term factor which directly affects house prices is interest rates.
However, the Bank of England (not the Government) sets the interest rate for the UK economy. That means the Government (and Rishi as PM) cannot directly make any differences in house prices (apart from the points raised above).
Yet, indirectly, as seen with the Liz Truss/Kwasi Kwarteng Mini-Budget catastrophe only a few weeks ago, what the Prime Minister (and their Government) does can make a massive difference to interest rates and, thus, the property market and house prices.
Since December 2021, the Bank of England has been slowly raising interest rates to combat inflation. Unfortunately, the downside is that it increases the mortgage rates homebuyers must pay if they are on a variable-rate mortgage or coming off a fixed-rate deal secured a few years ago.
As 17 out of 20 homebuyers have a fixed-rate mortgage, when a bank or building society calculates a 5 or 10-year fixed-rate deal, they consider what the Bank of England interest rate is today, but they also consider something equally important, something called the ‘swap rate’.
As Docklands homeowners and landlords, it is vital you should be aware of the swap rates as they are based on what the global money markets think future UK interest rates will be.
If the swap rate rises, then mortgage lenders will increase their rates on the mortgages they offer, and by doing so, (as discussed previously in this article), increased mortgage rates will affect affordability and, thus, house prices.
So, what affects UK swap rates? Mainly one thing, the price of government debt in the form of gilt yields
Given the vast increase of planned government debt originally announced in that mini-budget by Truss/Kwarteng, the money markets who would be lending the Government the billions of pounds to fund those tax cuts got worried the Government wouldn’t be able to pay back such a rise in borrowing, so wanted a higher rate of return on the money they were lending the Government.
That return is measured in the ‘gilt yield rate’, and the gilt yield rate directly drives the ‘swap rate.’
That rise in the gilt yield rate/swap rate was the main reason mortgage rates rocketed after the minibudget and helped in the collapse of Liz Truss’s Prime Ministership.
So, what can Docklands homeowners expect in the coming weeks and months with gilt/swap rates?
Rishi Sunak’s first job was to re-establish confidence in the money markets for UK plc. During the summer, the 5-year gilt rate rose steadily from 1.6% to 3.5%, in line with the general rise in Bank of England base rates. Yet when the mini-budget was delivered on the 23rd of September 2022, that rose almost straight away to 4.6%.
That meant every mortgage rate jumped in price by 1 to 1.5% almost overnight.
At the time of writing, the 5-year British gilt yield has dropped to 3.5%, and the others have either dropped below their premini-budget rate or were moving in that direction, depending on the gilt type.
The gilt rate (which directly affects the swap rate, which in turn, directly affects mortgage interest rates) could drop further, subject to what Rishi Sunak and his Chancellor Jeremy Hunt have planned in the Budget (and supplementary report from the Office for Budget Responsibility) on the 17th of November 2022.
A drop in the gilt/swap rate is vital for any Docklands homebuyer buying a house or Docklands homeowner remortgaging to a new mortgage deal. Why? Because ... with the average Docklands home worth £550,384 (a rise of 6.77% over the past year), each 1% extra in the mortgage rate would cost every Docklands homeowner an additional £458.65 per month.
So, what does this all mean for Docklands house prices, then? Greater certainty will keep the volume of housing transactions ticking over, yet not inescapably Docklands house prices.
In my blog articles on the Docklands property market, I believe Docklands house prices will be lower in 12 months, and I expect Docklands prices to return to where they were in the late spring/early summer of 2021.
And why is that? Unlike the 2008 Credit Crunch house price crash, today, the country has very low levels of unemployment and very well-capitalised banks (because the Bank of England subsequently forced them to keep lots of cash in their banks to cover downturns). Therefore, I don’t anticipate the kind of double-digit house price decreases seen 14 years ago.
If you would like to pick my brain about the Docklands property market, be you a potential Docklands first-time buyer, a Docklands homeowner looking at your options on remortgaging or selling, or, in fact, anyone with questions, don’t hesitate to drop me a line. I will gladly share my thoughts and opinions without cost or obligation.
