FROM THE EDITOR February is the time of giving, at least for those who deem it necessary to illustrate their affection for loved ones through the medium of gifts, but also offers the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how much that special person in your life really means to you. Whether you buy some expensive jewellery or simply make them a thoughtful breakfast in bed, it is a fantastic excuse to indulge.

For the ultimate indulgence, why not take flight and head off for a luxurious stay in a much warmer climate. Abu Dhabi’s transformation from urban jungle to cultural wilderness is well underway, so what better time to get the best of both worlds than while the weather is still depressingly winter-like here in the UK. At home or abroad, there are plenty of options to make your Valentine feel loved and appreciated this February and there are no excuses for the contrary.

As we continue the fight through the coldest days of the year, try to remember the light at the end of the tunnel. We are already seeing numerous events pop up across London and many more for the coming year being announced as we slowly progress towards Spring and the awakening of all things active. It might just help pull yourself out of your s.a.d state and offer a brief escape from the norm.

Head to the ExCeL exhibition centre for the London Classic Car Show or celebrate the Chinese New Year in style at many places across the Capital. There are more than enough reasons to say yes this month and every time you do will be one step closer to the Spring and the promise of brighter, warmer times ahead. But like I say, if you still can’t quite handle it, Valentine’s is the perfect excuse for some sun, so grab your passport, don the resortwear and head for warmer climes, just make sure you don’t make it all about the sun...

Ocean Liners: Speed & Style 3 February - 12 June

Explore the romantic and remarkable age of ocean travel and discover how ocean liners helped shape the modern world at the V&A. Sponsored by Viking Cruises, discover the glamour and engineering behind the golden age of ocean travel at this brand new exhibition. Co-organised by the V&A in London and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, it is the first ever exhibition to explore the design and cultural impact of the ocean liner on an international scale. It will investigate all aspects of the design of liners from architecture, engineering and interiors to the fashion and lifestyle promoted aboard.

From luggage belonging to the Duke of Windsor to a Cartier tiara; and a 1950’s photograph of movie star Marlene Dietrich on board the Queen Elizabeth; there are more than 250 objects on display each with their own fascinating story.

The highlight, however has to be a wooden panel fragment from an overdoor in the first-class lounge on the Titanic. Found floating on the surface of the Atlantic, this extraordinary interior fragment comes from where the Titanic broke in half as it sank on the night of 14 April 1912. It is a remarkable survival and the largest remaining fragment from the ship.

Executed in Louis XV style with Rococo motifs and forms, it demonstrates the extraordinary quality of the decoration on board the Titanic. Many of the interiors of the Titanic and her sister ship the Olympic were created in the Beaux-Arts style. Rarely lent by the Maritime Museum in Halifax, this panel will be on display in Europe for the very first time.

The London Classic Car Show 15 - 18 February Now in its fourth year, the London Classic Car Show has established itself as one of the UK’s best classic car events. Over 700 classic cars and some of the most legendary ‘getaway cars’ from automotive history will go on display at the ExCel Centre this February.

Bringing together an international celebration of the very best dealers, manufacturers, car clubs and products it’s the perfect day out for all.

This year the Grand Avenue pays homage to ‘specials’, the limited editions, one-offs and prototypes of unique street and competition cars renowned for their rarity, curiosity and desirability.

Car manufacturers such as Aston Martin and Maserati will also be at the show, displaying new models alongside their heritage cars.

Motoring celebrities such as James May, David Coulthard, Jenson Button and Sir Stirling Moss have all been spotted at the show in previous years. The show also celebrates the work and career of an unsung hero of British motor racing. This year’s winner hasn’t been announced but last year the show celebrated the work and career of Adrian Newey and the outstanding racing talent of Jacky Ickx.

Beginning with Brunel’s steamship, the Great Eastern of 1859, the exhibition traces the design stories behind some of the world’s most luxurious liners. London’s Chinese New Year London’s Chinese New Year celebrations are the largest outside Asia. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people descend on the West End to wish each other “Xin Nian Kuai Le” - Happy New Year in Mandarin -or “San Nin Faai Lok” - in Cantonese.

Chinese New Year 2018 is the Year of the Dog and will fall on 18 February. The event, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar and celebrates the start of new life and the season of ploughing and sowing.

New Year festivities start on the first day of the lunar month and continue until the fifteenth, when the moon is brightest. The first week is celebrated with visits to friends and family following special traditions designed to bring good luck. The second week ends with the Lantern festival on the evening of the 15th day of the lunar month.

The colour red is particularly important during the celebrations and symbolises fire which is thought to scare away evil spirits so people can enjoy a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year. Most people dress head to foot in new red clothing to ward off the spirits.

Lots of events will be taking place around the capital; however the main activities will happen in Trafalgar Square, Chinatown

and Shaftesbury Avenue so make sure you plan your celebrations early!

The London celebrations will begin with a parade of 30 teams from Charing Cross Road starting at 10am with a dragon and lion dance, then snaking its way through Chinatown. An official opening ceremony will take place in Trafalgar Square from 12noon with speeches from special guests and entertainment by artists from China before more live entertainment on stages on Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road hosted by Spectrum Chinese radio. Families can head to Leicester Square where kids can enjoy cultural activities and family-friendly performances, but don’t miss the spectacular fireworks display at the end which lights up Trafalgar Square.

As well as the parade and festival, there will also be a variety of stalls offering an incredible array of souvenirs including lanterns, paper dragons, drums and paper cutting artwork.

Visitors are recommended to sample the delicious regional food that is served in and around Chinatown while enjoying one of the many impromptu lion dancing performances.

RHS London Early Spring Plant Fair

13 - 14 February Kick starting the gardening season, the RHS London Early Spring Plant Fair will see a variety of early flowering plants and bulbs. Visitors will be able to admire an abundance of stunning snowdrops in an installation created from gardens all over the country and make the most of on-hand advice from nurseries and speakers including Alys Fowler who will be encouraging everyone with tips and inspiration to get back in the garden after the winter months.

PABLO MAC DONOUGH Polo, the sport of a true gentleman is the perfect balance between man and beast, strength and precision, speed and serenity. Delivering the same symbiosis comes the RM 5301 an exciting collaboration between Richard Mille and Pablo Mac Donough, one of the world’s best players. Sporty and dynamic, this watch reveals a suspended tourbillon calibre, visible through the unprecedented laminated sapphire glass of its Carbon TPT® case, a complex armour of an entirely new kind for this high-risk sport.

That one of polo’s greatest champions should be able to wear a watch in the midst of play, and a tourbillon at that, is by no means a miracle. Rather, it illustrates years of research and studies of how a wristwatch resists when confronted with violent blows. Experts in the area - with watches previously crafted for tennis, golf and Formula 1 under their belt - the brand have designed the RM 53-01 around a single goal: making it extremely tough, while unveiling its calibre.

Richard Mille had a clear goal in mind; ‘Given that Pablo has sustained a large number of fractures in the course of his career, I asked our teams to come up with a watch that could resist the many types of shocks arising in a polo match, whilst leaving the movement visible.’

Well aware that regular glass would not provide the necessary resistance to ward off the impact of a mallet, engineers for the brand, collaborating with Stettler - a world-renowned sapphire specialist - took inspiration from current practices in the automotive realm to produce a laminated glass. Composed of two sheets of sapphire glass separated by a thin Polyvinyl film, this is a horological first. In the face of the strong shockwave produced by a blow from a mallet, the glass will crack, but without ever shattering.

With anti-reflective and UV coatings, this glass, which preserves the movement from the external environment, is a patent-pending Richard Mille exclusive.

The case has also been manufactured to withstand such blows and is machined in Carbon TPT®, an incredibly tough and virtually indestructible material, recognised for its excellent resistance to micro-cracks and tears. The key to this piece however is its movements ability to accommodate such unique circumstances.

Shock is the enemy of a tourbillon movement, so how would one go about combating it? Well Richard Mille’s solution is a cable-suspended movement of course! The atypical architecture of this design required the creation of two separate baseplates.

The first, or ‘peripheral’ plate, is fixed to the case and supports the tensioner mechanisms. The second, known as the ‘central’ plate, is linked to the peripheral plate by cables and incorporates the wheels comprising the calibre as well as the winding mechanism.

The central baseplate rests, like a spider in the middle of its web, on two braided steel cables just 0.27 mm in diameter. These cables, sketching a three-dimensional structure in their path through 10 pulleys, are anchored by 4 tensioners. The watchmaker is responsible for tensioning the cables by rotating a spline screw located at the centre of each tensioner. By ensuring an even distribution of tension, this pulley system guarantees perfect balance of the whole mechanism.

The suspended movement and the use of grade 5 titanium (double baseplate and bridges) contribute increased stiffness, while ensuring smooth functioning of the going train and optimal shock protection.

While there are ‘only’ two of them, their arrow-shaped silhouette attests to their noble origins. GMT Earth Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey took up a significant challenge with the GMT Earth, aiming to deliver a comprehensive, three-dimensional 360° view of the terrestrial globe, from the North to the South Poles.

How they achieved such a feat is truly remarkable, designing the very architecture of the timepiece from a different angle to give the movement and the case a more prominent role, once again pushing the envelope and venturing into uncharted territories.

The globe is not the only three-dimensional element in this timepiece - it’s a characteristic that features at every level. First appearing at the highest point of the dial, with the hour, minute and small seconds indications. Then gliding gently across the GMT indication with its triangular red hand, the gaze moves to the power reserve indication displayed by a long, slender hand. Finally, your eyes come to rest on the lowest part of the dial, which shows the globe alongside the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, Greubel Forsey’s 3rd pivotal invention.

The GMT Earth enables a clear view of three time zones simultaneously to within a quarter of an hour. Furthermore, on the movement side of the timepiece, 24 time zones are displayed with the summer and winter times to complement the universal time indicated by the terrestrial globe.

Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpagraphe Chronometre The new Kalpagraphe Chronomètre is a timepiece of rare distinction, inviting those who look upon it to dive into its deep Abyss blue waves, illuminated in 18 carat rose gold. The stylish masculinity of this Haute Horlogerie creation lies in the form of one of the most popular horological complications: the chronograph.

It is powered by a new shaped movement bearing the hallmarks of Parmigiani Fleurier - the calibre PF362, a COSC-certified, self-winding, integrated chronograph offering hour, minute, small second and chronograph functions as well as a tachymeter scale and date display, with a 65-hour power reserve.

Entirely developed and manufactured in-house over a period of six years, this calibre works at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz) and demonstrates an accuracy of one tenth of a second; it also features a column wheel and vertical clutch to ensure accuracy and user comfort. In addition, its variable-inertia balance is secured by a bridge which provides strength and stability against shocks. As for the display, the dial is divided into different levels and features an Abyss blue centre treated with PVD with an opaline finish, a radial guilloché-worked flange punctuated with hand-applied faceted indices, two snailed

counters enclosed within a fine gold edging, an angled tachymeter scale, a semi-instantaneous date window, and a small seconds sector with its own hand. The luminescent Delta-shaped hands, the counters placed slightly off-centre, and the rounded date indicator containing three numerals come together to form this balanced, easily readable display. The finishing touch is a Hermès alligator strap in Abyss blue with a rose gold folding buckle.

1858 Geosphere Paying tribute to the 160th anniversary of Minerva, the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere embodies the spirit of mountain exploration with a professional and innovative timepiece that is destined for those who travel the world in their quest for exploration.

This timepiece features a brand-new manufacture worldtime complication powered by the calibre MB 29.25, developed by the Montblanc engineers in Villeret.

Dedicated to the world’s Seven Summit mountaineering challenge, the holy grail of mountaineering adventures where climbers set out to ascend the highest mountains from each continent. The Seven Summits challenge is recognized as the most difficult mountaineering quest worldwide and only 500 athletes have achieved the mission to date.

This timepiece features a worldtime complication with two turning domed hemisphere globes, which make a full rotation in 24 hours. The northern hemisphere at 12 o’clock turns anti-clockwise, while the southern hemisphere turns clockwise.

They are both surrounded by a scale with the 24 time zones, along with a day/night indication in contrasting colours. The longitude reference meridian for both hemispheres is highlighted with a white line coated with SuperLumiNova®. Additionally, a second time zone display is located at nine o’clock and a date (linked to the local time) is indicated in an aperture at three o’clock. The 1960’s was the decade where human endeavour set the bar for those to follow. Perhaps closing with the Moon landing was the perfect way to sum up glorious years of exploration and investigation to discover for the sake of discovery and in turn moving mankind forward through what was learnt. After decades of unrest and war, North America and Europe especially were at the forefront of this exciting new chapter. Asides from the space race and individual adventures, iconic watches were making their debut. The late 1950’s saw Jaeger LeCoultre reveal their first Geophysic model to celebrate their own incredible 125th Anniversary but also the International Geophysic Year where 67 nations agreed to jointly investigate the science of Geophysics. Continuing the legacy of the famous Reverso, Jaeger LeCoultre continued to build timepieces with a clear purpose in mind.

A decade later saw the introduction of the Memovox Polaris; the first ever entirely water resistant timepiece equipped with an alarm to warn the diver as to the duration of their period under water. The primary point of this mechanical alarm feature was that it not simply made a resounding sound when activated, it also vibrated against the wrist. In recent times, Jaeger LeCoultre worked with a symphony orchestra to deduce that the sapphire crystal was the most resonant part of the case thus their repeater gong should hit the glass to achieve the most sonorous result. The idea of the vibrating alarm shows their dedication to achieving the best possible execution of the desired complication was in their DNA from the very beginning, and continues to this day.

The Memovox Polaris is deemed to have gained its name from the famous Polaris missiles created by North America during the Cold War but the more

easily attributed definition would be the North Star, which has been integral to navigators and astronomers for centuries. An appreciation of the celestial is a common denominator for all those individuals who have pushed the boundaries of their respective fields given it is the genuine incredible unknown.

Returning to Earth and more material things, Jaeger LeCoultre have chosen to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the original Polaris model by reinventing it for the modern purveyor. In 2008, the watch was reproduced as a limited series and true

WATCHES there are crowns at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock matching the case layout of the alarm models, this model is specifically time only with the second crown adjusting an internal bezel that can be used for timing.

The strap version retails at £5,950.00 while the bracelet is £6,700.00. Bracelets on all sports watches sometimes can be seen as an afterthought but this bracelet is a well considered addition - finished in polished and brushed steel, even the clasp includes a micro adjustable feature to ensure the perfect fit. Compared to their peers, Jaeger LeCoultre have offered great value for comparative product.

The next option is the date model that comes in a 42mm steel only case with either rubber strap or steel bracelet. The slightly larger case size and date makes it more functional as a tool watch with strong legibility. The Chronograph version

This included a fabled run where the luminova providing the luminescence on the over sized markers had begun to age prematurely and gained a slight orange patina. However, this was still a stand alone limited edition. The actual Memovox movement can be found elsewhere in the collection from the Master series to the collection’s natural descendant in the Amvox models that were created as a collaboration with Aston Martin.

This year, the Polaris will become a stand alone pillar in its own right offering the perfect sports watch that the brand has been missing? Straight off, another limited edition in homage to the original alarm model has been created but this is specifically Boutique only and although very desirable should not take away from the new collection. The 1968 model was actually 42mm in diameter and though large for its time, the size would fit seamlessly into the modern world of sports watches. The new collection varies from 41mm to 44mm with a variety of complications (& non complication!)

The base of the collection is the non date model that arrives in a 41mm steel case on both a calf strap and steel bracelet with both black and blue dials. The Quarter Hour markers and hour batons across the collection are reminiscent of the original model ensuring the collection is instantly recognisable as the Polaris family. Though

without date was our star of the series.

Again in a 42mm diameter with both black and blue dials on both calf strap and steel bracelet, the blue dial especially is a great composition of colours. Jaeger LeCoultre have placed a great emphasis on the dials this year and given this is the part of the watch everyone will see first, it does seem appropriate. The dial carries three different finishes, specifically opaline around the outside, a brushed finish on the track with the applied hour markers and a matt centre that is especially visible in the blue. In the grand scheme, these are small details but it is this attention that separates Jaeger LeCoultre from other brands.

As with all their watches, the chronograph movement is made entirely in-house and priced exceptionally well at £8,800.00 for the strap variant and £9,600.00 for the bracelet option.

The final model is a direct sibling to the last series of Amovx models offering a Chronograph with Worldtimer facility. Given there are no alarm options in the regular series, the Worltimer is perfectly positioned to be the genuine complication of the new models. The Worltimer feature is exceptionally easy to set, which then allows the wearer to continually be able to read two individual timezones at the same time. Again offered explicitly in a robust 44mm steel case with both black and blue dials but only on straps at the moment, the Worltimer retails at £12,800.00.

Though the Reverso was born as a sports watch, and the Master Compressor, Deep Sea and Amvox collections have admirably provided a sports contingent to the family, the Polaris series are firstly a direct and faithful creation based of the brand’s own architecture, then with good price points, well made steel bracelets and unfussy dials, a collection that slots easily into the consciousness of those already familiar with Jaeger LeCoultre and a new generation of potential consumers. Appropriately named and well executed, we anticipate the Polaris collection to become a guiding light for the brand for years to come.

Renowned the world over for its incredible wealth and spectacular buildings, Abu Dhabi has been at the heart of the region’s development since before conception of the UAE. However, there remains a stigma with this Emirate and others alike when it comes to the history, culture and substance of these metropolises that have risen from the desert.

Abu Dhabi’s government are keen to change this viewpoint and are going to incredible lengths to ensure the future of this city and its surroundings is a bright, fulfilling and educational one.

Needless to say, there is plenty of scope when it comes to further development, but they are not simply interested in

continuing the urban sprawl into the desert with more incredible structures, they are determined to invest in construction with a purpose. The city is already home to one of the most impressive mosques in the world; the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which was constructed utilising materials, skills and craftsmanship from around the world to create a truly inclusive destination open to everyone whilst showcasing the religious foundations that continue today. And if you take the short trip through the desert to the historic Al Ain, you will find a number of heritage sites with a rich history dating back to the origins of Abu Dhabi.

Despite this, there have been very few additional cultural sights for tourists to enjoy in the city of Abu Dhabi, until now.

One of the latest additions to Abu Dhabi’s cultural scene is the incredible Louvre Abu Dhabi housed in one of the most impressive low-level buildings in the region designed by international architect Jean Nouvel. This extraordinary architectural feat delivers a striking illustration of the nation’s vision and comprises a bird’s nest style dome which appears to float over a staggering 55 museum buildings below. Nouvel’s dome is a complex geometric structure which is in fact made up of 7,850 stars and takes inspiration from the cupola, a distinctive feature in Arabic architecture.

This new home for historic and modern art, artefacts and much more from around the world has already made waves on the global scene. The Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection is made up of both purchased and borrowed pieces from partner museums along with a selection on loan from private owners. It brings a whole new dimension to Abu Dhabi’s offering and is the first major step towards building a substantial cultural centre open to the world.

Working in partnership with Musée du Louvre in Paris, Louvre Abu Dhabi has immediately become one of the biggest ever cultural collaborations between two countries. Along with sixteen other French museums and institutional partners, Louvre Abu Dhabi has created a new cultural centre delivering a global museum supported by French expertise.

A specialised agency was created back in 2007 at the start of this incredible project in order to curate pieces from across France’s plethora of museums and galleries to provide global substance to this new venture. Agence France-Muséums not only gathers cultural institutions and museums to support Louvre Abu Dhabi, they also provide guidance in developing the museum’s permanent collection alongside the coordination of loans and temporary exhibitions.

Of course the Louvre is not the first building here to possess and promote the cultural side of Abu Dhabi. The awe inspiring Sheikh Zayed Mosque stands proudly in its white splendour as a symbol to the world that this is a truly unique and special place and all are welcome. Beautifully crafted and on such a vast scale, this is a wonder to behold and is one of the last legacies that Sheikh Zayed was able to leave for the people of Abu Dhabi before his death in 2004 - three years before the mosque’s completion. And it is one that will forever hold a place in the growing cultural heritage of Abu Dhabi.

Despite the impressive architecture and seemingly endless buildings taking the main stage in the region, it’s not all about how big or spectacular you can build here, there are certain areas that although equally impressive, remain a little more reserved and away from the cameras. Macellaio RC & Harrods collaboration From 9th-18th February, Italian restaurant Macellaio RC and Harrods are joining forces to celebrate the heritage of one of Italy’s national dishes, the pizza. A special menu has been created for Pizzeria in Harrods taking the form of a culinary battle between resident head chef Guiseppe Silvestri and guest chef Matteo Riganelli from Macellaio RC. The “battle” will be based on the longstanding friendly rivalry between the Neopolitan ‘pizza’ and the Ligurian ‘pissa’ and aptly begins on National Pizza Day. In addition, exclusively for Valentine’s Day, a ‘sharing pizza’ will be on offer specially for couples to enjoy one pizza with different toppings on either side.

And while all are suitable for vegetarians, a number of vegan dishes have been included in each section for those looking to rid their diet of meat, fish, dairy eggs and honey.

Wahaca Test Kitchen Located just down the road from Old Street station on Tabernacle Street, Mexican market eating restaurant Wahaca’s Test Kitchen is an innovative concept where diners rate the food to help develop new ideas and recipes ready to be rolled out at the other Wahaca branches.

Serving up a healthy mix of new dishes alongside some of the brand’s classic favourites the new menu has been inspired by owner Tommi’s recent trips to Mexico City, Oaxaca and the Yucatan showcasing her interpretations of contemporary Mexican cooking.

Tempting highlights include the roast cauliflower and green cashew nut mole tacos with charred tomato salsa; a whole roast seabream board; and roast pork belly carnitas with their smoky tamarind glaze.

Start with some Mexican City Nachos while you peruse the menu. A great way to sample a selection from the menu is through the Wahaca Feasts – two ‘set’ menus with a variety of dishes showcasing the many flavours and textures.

The Explore menu in particular combines grilled chicken tostadas with baby gem and crab; pulled pork pibil quesadilla; raw cauliflower and quinoa salad, sweet potato wedges; impressive slow-cooked beef shin board.

Priced at £40.00 for two to share, it’s great value and there’s also a choice of two desserts as well. We highly recommend the black coconut ice cream with almond brittle.

It’s fresh, creamy and not too sweet all at the same time. The dark chocolate and pecan brownie served with salted caramel icecream and dulce de leche is also an indulgent treat for any chocolate fan.

Wash it all down with one of their cocktails, such as the fresh hibiscus gin and tonic or a Wahaca Colada. Wahaca also serve up a number of real tequilas and mezcals.

Having celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, the new test kitchen is an exciting development for the brand. Helping to push the boundaries and allowing the customer to be involved in what goes on the menu, guests are encouraged to rate their dishes at the end of the meal on a digital bill tablet, giving the feedback back to Wahaca immediately.

During Chinese New Year, villagers would travel for miles to visit the sacred Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees (two ancient banyan trees) and hang notes on the branches using red ribbon. These notes contained wishes for the year ahead and it was believed that the wishes that were successfully hung on the trees would come true.

Hitting their rivals right where it hurts in both the style and price departments, this is a car to be reckoned with. Immediately striking intrigue thanks to its long wheelbase and elongated profile, the Arteon delivers a powerful presence on the road. A wide stance enhanced by an impressive array of LED clusters provides the perfect aesthetic for those looking for a sportier saloon with an agressively sleek edge.

This is not a car designed for the drab business sector, nor one that will find its home at a humdrum family home, yet it would be perfectly suited to both. When driving with the transmission set to sport mode, or indeed in ‘manual’ utilising the paddle shift, the car is responsive and sharp with very little, if any delay between command and response.

However, once you shift back in to your regular routine, it is important to remember that the car won’t be quite as quick on its feet. Despite this, the difference should be seen as a benefit rather than a hindrance as you will likely find yourself enjoying the sport mode more often than you might think. Taking care of the majority of features digitally means that there is less space required for further controls on the driver interface, and as a result the remaining interior space is as clean and sleek as you would expect from a car that looks this good from the outside.

There remains the question of material quality when it comes to the use of less desirable plastics on items of frequent interaction such as the cup holder cover, however, there is no denying that for the price you will be paying, it won’t be a deal breaker.

Starting at under £32,000 on the road for the entry 1.5-litre TSI (prices for the 2.0-litre options start at under £33,000) and remaining below £40,000 for the top of the range R-Line, 4Motion, there is little to argue with in terms of this stunning cars price point. Positioned in a hotly contested market, this car will gladly take a share from its more established and supposedly premium competitors.

Arteon comes packed full of technology too, with numerous

standard features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, pedestrian monitoring, park assist and driver fatigue detection to name but a few. One feature that is worth mentioning simply because of how ingenious it is has to be the ‘predictive cruise control’ which comes as part of the adaptive system. Simply put, it recognises the road using a front facing camera and route information to predictively adjust the cars speed prior to bends, roundabouts or junctions. It may not be a self driving car, but there are certainly plenty of features to help you along the way.

It is one of the best all-round design packages that certainly

Volkswagen has ever produced and has pushed the brands kudos immediately up a level. If this is a sign of things to come from the German giant, then there are very exciting times ahead. Few cars launch today - certainly in this type of market - that really deliver such aesthetic appeal and actually have substance to back it up.

Beautifully displayed in white coachwork with contrasting dark blue leather interior, this automatic, left-hand drive Mercedes 280 SL is a spectacular example.

The 280 SL was introduced in 1963 at the Geneva Motor Show taking over from the legendary 300 SL and 190 SL. They were equipped with an inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. The bonnet, trunk lid, door skins and tonneau cover

were made of aluminum to reduce weight and the comparatively short and wide chassis, combined with an excellent suspension, powerful brakes and radial tires gave the 280 superb handling for its time.

This car provided the final platform for the SOHC inline-six engines, the M130 which was to be replaced in ‘74 by the entirely new DOHC power unit. The M130 increased power over its predecessor to 170 bhp and 244 Nm of torque from the 2.8-litre block. Not only that, but these were the first engines to receive proper bench testing prior to being installed in the cars, finally delivering a guaranteed and accurate power specification that had been missing in previous years.

Its front end styling, complete with the characteristic upright Bosch “fishbowl� headlights and simple chrome grille, dominated by the large three-pointed star in the nose panel, paid homage to the then already legendary 300 SL roadster.

This example has been recently restored and repainted and has also received new interior, seats, carpets, soft top (in dark blue mohair) and had the wood re-veneered. The engine bay has also been nicely detailed. It is a fantastic car that looks good on any road and provides the perfect excuse for a weekend drive in the countryside...or the French Riviera for that matter.

Unfortunately, the Land Registry does not tell us the bedroom count of homes that have sold, so we only know whether they were flats, terraces, semis or detached homes.

As such, we can see that it is flats which transact most frequently.

So we know that flats are sold most often in E14 and most families live in a 2 bed flat.

In reality, we have a vast cross-section of homebuyers always looking for the perfect next home.
