RAM SHERGILL

Ram Shergill at The White Box, Nobu Hotel London, Portman Square until 28th March

Launched to coincide with London Fashion Week, Ram Shergill has taken over The White Box at Nobu Hotel London Portman Square until 28th March.

Using the lens as a tool to explore the study of philosophical and scientific aspects of the conscious and unconscious, the ‘Multispecies Phenomena’ exhibition explores the notion of ‘becoming’ through a collection of visuals as seen through the lens of Ram Shergill’s photography.

Shergill’s works are a combination of unique multispecies phenomena, which when placed together become an image. The constructed series of images experiment with colour, light refractions, dramatic use of adornment, relationships between human and animal life as well as working with nature and the environment to create an extraordinary composition.

An interdisciplinary artist specialising in photography, creative direction and bio-integrated design, Shergill is internationally

recognised for his contribution to the fashion industry, advancing his practice through science and wearable technology. On displaying his work in The White Box, Shergill comments: “I feel that my work is strongly aligned with the style and aesthetic of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square, as I feel it is always a phenomenal experience at Nobu. Working with the hotel and showing at The White Box Space Gallery, enables my artwork to be a part of that unique experience, I look forward to showing my works over London Fashion Week 2023”

The White Box is located directly in front of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square’s lobby and is the first of its kind in the Nobu Hotels’ collection. The space serves as a blank canvas for art exhibits, a space to celebrate special moments or those looking to create an intimate event. After the exhibition, guests are invited to visit the Nobu Bar to enjoy a new selection of cocktails inspired by Nobu Matsuhisa’s travels.

METICULOUSLY MONOCHROMED

BLACK AND WHITE IS THE ORDER OF THE MONTH WITH DISTINCTIVE DESIGN DOING ALL THE TALKING WHILE THE RESERVED COLOUR PALETTE PACKS A SUBTLE YET STRIKING PUNCH

AUDEMARS PIGUET

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet presents a new version of its Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph 42 mm, housed in its first-ever black ceramic case with a matching bracelet and a black Petite Tapisserie dial for a contemporary monochrome look.

Since its creation, the Royal Oak Offshore collection has been dressed in a wide range of materials, such as titanium and forged carbon. In addition to steel or gold, these avant-garde materials offer the perfect balance between technical innovation and design, elegance and robustness.

Powered by Calibre 4404, Audemars Piguet’s integrated chronograph movement with a flyback function, the new reference 26238CE continues in this vein as it is the first Royal Oak Offshore with a case and bracelet made entirely of ceramic. This material is also used for the push-pieces at 2 and 4 o’clock that operate the chronograph, as well as for the screw-locked crown at 3 o’clock. Only the eight white gold screws attaching the bezel to the case stand out, along with the eight luminescent applied hour-markers that punctuate the hours and the titanium caseback.

The dial is dressed in the same matte black colour as the case, bracelet, push-pieces, bezel and crown. It is decorated with the Petite Tapisserie pattern, a signature motif previously reserved for the 26238 references in gold or titanium. While past references had variations in tone, this new reference is the first to be totally monochrome in pitch black, which is particularly difficult to achieve due to the different materials and textures used. This aesthetic choice gives the timepiece an unprecedented depth.

To enhance legibility, a wide range of finishings have been developed for this timepiece. Each of the counters is accompanied by a white hand offering a distinct contrast that is further accentuated by a disc of white Arabic numerals.

Similarly, the circular date window (at 3 o’clock) and the three emblematic counters of the Royal Oak Offshore unfold around the two large luminescent hour and minute hands, small seconds at 6 o’clock, chronograph minutes at 9 o’clock and chronograph hours at 12 o’clock. This layout keeps the famous vertical arrangement of the collection. It also follows the subtle introduction made in 2021 where the hour and small seconds counters were switched to offer a top-to-bottom reading of the elapsed hours and minutes.

The ceramic used has been meticulously finished to reveal its subtleties. The craftsmen of the Manufacture met a triple challenge; the first was to achieve the highest standards of quality and finishing, demanded by Audemars Piguet. The second was to

perfectly master ceramic which is particularly challenging to work with due to its extreme hardness. And finally, to marry the complex lines of the Royal Oak Offshore case with alternating polished and satin finishing.

Although the exact composition of the ceramic at Audemars Piguet remains a well-kept secret, it is partly made of zirconium oxide powder that is combined with a specific binder. Its homogeneous colour only appears once the material is sintered at temperatures in excess of 1,000oC.

Each component is then pre-polished and pre-satin finished. Lines, angles and bezels are meticulously finished by hand to obtain the alternating polished and satin surfaces that are the Manufacture’s signature style. This demanding work reveals the uniqueness of the material and its colour, exploiting all the subtleties of the material.

Equipped with the latest integrated automatic chronograph, Calibre 4404, featuring a column wheel and flyback function that, unlike a traditional chronograph, allows it to be restarted without having to first stop and reset it, the column wheel has a vertical clutch designed to allow smooth pressure on each push-piece. When the chronograph is started or stopped, the hands immediately start moving, without any delay or unexpected jumps. A patented reset mechanism also ensures that each chronograph hand instantly returns to its vertical starting position. The stunning sapphire and titanium caseback allows the wearer to admire the operation of the chronograph’s column wheel below. When the reset push-piece is pressed, the hammers, directed by a lever, strike the central cam to reset the chronograph wheels and set the hands to zero. The wearer can also admire the 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight that has been engraved with the initials AP, echoing the historic versions of the Royal Oak Offshore. The movement also features refined finishes such as Côtes de Genève, circular graining, circular satin finishing and polished bevels.

This new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph is being released for the collection’s 30th anniversary, which saw its first model presented in 1993. Its various models have never ceased to evolve in terms of the movements, materials, finishings and dials used. Extending the use of monochrome ceramic to the entirety of the case, and reinforcing the presence of the Petite Tapisserie pattern that decorates only three of the current Royal Oak Offshore models, this new reference offers a contemporary and sober tribute to the collection.

Kicking off 2023 with a focus on its most creative and daring platform for horological innovation, Zenith is unveiling some of its latest Defy creations at LVMH Watch Week 2023 alongside LVMH Maisons Bulgari, Hublot and Tag Heuer.

Taking on a hybrid format of on-location and digital presentations, this year LVMH Watch Week is heading to Singapore followed by New York.

Showcasing the different lines within the Defy collection, synonymous with the Zenith’s unique take on progressive watchmaking. The Defy Skyline Skeleton introduces a new expression of the modern skeleton watch, equipped with an El Primero calibre and boasting a uniquely symmetrical open dial. The Defy Skyline is also proposed in a new mid-size, unisex 36mm version, incorporating new pastel colours into the instantly recognisable case design. The Defy Skyline in 41mm also receives its first Boutique Edition, masterfully blending dark and golden tones. In the rugged spirit of the Defy Extreme, Zenith continues to seek inspiration from the raw, elemental beauty of wild terrains with the Defy Extreme Glacier.

Introduced last year as the latest chapter in the enduring Defy legacy of sturdy and singularly futuristic timekeepers, the Defy Skyline collection was conceived for an ever-fastmoving world where every fraction of a second can be a decisive one. Taking cues from modern cityscapes where structures and light are bound in a constantly moving interplay, the Defy Skyline Skeleton reaches even further towards the light on the horizon and opens a whole new world of possibilities to what a skeleton watch can be.

Housed within an angular 41mm steel case, the harmoniously symmetrical skeleton dial takes on the form of a fourpointed stars, in a nod to the Zenith “double Z” logo of the 1960s. The chapter ring’s applied baton hour markers as well as the central hour and minute hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for easy legibility; something that is usually sacrificed in skeleton watches. A constantly running 1/10th of a second counter at 6 o’clock makes steady jumps in fixed increments, completing one revolution every 10 seconds. The open dial comes in black or blue, with the skeleton movement’s main plate as well as the bridges and open star-shaped oscillating

weight finished in the same colour as the open dials for a cohesive and architectural look. The different finishes combining matte, satin-brushed and polished surfaces further accentuate the depth of the moment and intensity of the colour.

Following the unique octagonal geometry of the early Defy models of the 1960s, the sculpted steel case of the Defy Skyline Skeleton retains the same DNA of robustness and durability as its predecessors while bringing an edgier and more architectural aesthetic, as well as a host of new functions. Fixed atop the 41mm stainless steel case with sharply defined edges, the faceted bezel is reminiscent of those from early Defy models, reimagined with twelve sides that are positioned as extensions to the hour markers. With an emphasis on performance in the largest possible range of activities and situations, the screw-down crown emblazoned with the star emblem provides a water-resistance of 10 ATM (100 metres).

Visible from the front as well as the sapphire display back is the open-worked version of the highfrequency automatic El Primero calibre, the 3620 SK. Built with a similar architecture as the El Primero 3600 1/10th of a second chronograph, this automatic manufacture movement drives the 1/10th of a second hand directly from the escapement, which beats at 5Hz (36’000 VpH), thus making it a “natural” fraction-of-a-second indication. Its efficient automatic bidirectional winding mechanism with a star-shaped rotor delivers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. With versatility at its core, the Defy Skyline Skeleton features an ingenious quick strap-change mechanism consisting of secure buttons on the back. The steel bracelet with a satin-brushed surface with chamfered and polished edges can easily be swapped with the supplied rubber strap and steel folding clasp with a starry sky pattern that’s colour-matched to the dial.

Bringing a new dimension to the Defy line and reimagining the possibilities of skeleton watches in form as well as function, the DefySkyline Skeleton is available at Zenith boutiques and authorised retailers around the world.

Alongside the Defy Skyline Skeleton, Zenith is also presenting other new creations from across the Defy collection.

CARL F. BUCHERER

2023 marks the 135th birthday of the Lucerne-based Swiss watchmaker Carl F. Bucherer (CFB).

The perfect time to enter a new era, the launch of CFB’s Capsule Collection is not only a special edition to mark this anniversary, but also represents a departure from every other product presentation in the brand’s long history.

The five watches - all of which reimagine bestsellers from the brand’s portfolio - make a powerful statement. CFB, admired globally for its independence, innovation, and aesthetic originality, is setting its sights on some exciting new journeys, on exploring time differently, and on engaging with a contemporary clientele. The five watches will be launched on the same day, with each model debuting every two hours in a different cosmopolitan city.

With its five different timepieces - three of which are available only in limited quantities - the CFB Capsule Collection is positioned to appeal to anyone those who thrive on their own independence and see the world around them a bit differently.

CFB’s Chief Technology Officer Samir Merdanovic points out that while the watches tap into the brand’s travel and exploration DNA, they also resonate with the founder’s vision: “We’ve created the CFB Capsule Collection for people who not only have an entrepreneurial spirit, but who particularly appreciate exploring time differently.” Today, CFB has a clear vision for the future and will be exploring time differently going forward. Merdanovic continues: “Our positioning allows us to meet the needs and desires of the modern consumer around the world. In this context, we decided to refrain from launching timepieces for either men or women in a specific age bracket, but rather will continue launching watches that capture the zeitgeist of contemporary generations and reflect their appreciation of cool design, innovative mastery, and excellent craftsmanship.”

In line with Carl F. Bucherer’s pioneering spirit, the brand has turned to forged carbon, the element at the heart of life as we know it, in the creation of each of the five watches in the CFB Capsule Collection.

For many, the flagship will be the Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral Black, limited to 30 pieces and featuring a COSC-

certified chronometer. Inside its forged carbon case with a titanium container is a CFB T3000 manufacture caliber with a patented peripherally mounted floating tourbillon. Striking, innovative, and technically superb, inside and out.

Others will see every day of their futures in the Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar Black, limited to 88 pieces and featuring a COSC-certified chronometer. Inside the forged carbon case with a titanium container is a CFB A2055 manufacture caliber with a perpetual calendar and moon-phase functions whose display consists of a disc of aventurine and two small handengraved moons in white gold. It keeps track of every day - even in leap years - which means the wearer only has to think about how to make the best use of that time (a minor correction will have to be made in the year 2100).

The last of the watches crafted from forged carbon and titanium is the Manero Peripheral BigDate Black, limited to 188 pieces and featuring a COSC-certified chronometer. Its engine is the CFB A2011 manufacture caliber, taking its name from the big bold date aperture at 11 o’clock. The dial is rounded out with a weekday indicator and small seconds and power reserve subdials: an impressive amount of information available at a glance.

The Manero Flyback Blackunlimited - is the CFB Capsule Collection’s expression of one of Carl F. Bucherer’s most popular watches. It has a stunning DLC-coated stainless-steel case with a deep black matte lacquered surface, while the CFB 1970 caliber features chronograph and flyback functions.

The Heritage BiCompax Annual Black - unlimited - is the CFB Capsule Collection’s interpretation of another CFB favourite. The case is made of DLCcoated stainless steel with a deep black matte lacquered surface. The dial features a big date and two chronograph counters, and the CFB 1972 caliber delivers an annual calendar function, which means the date only has to be changed once a year.

In its 135th anniversary year, the brand’s wanderlust leads - as the Capsule Collection demonstrates - to new adventures exploring time differently. The CFB Capsule Collection marks the start of this series of new releases, showcasing 13 decades of expertise in producing and launching brilliant timepieces.

CURVE BALL

In 2006, BALL Watch Company introduced its first-generation dive watch: a robust, aesthetically functional timepiece that delivered remarkable performance with an inner bezel, illuminated by micro gas tubes and a 2-crowns design. Since then, its “Engineer Master II” collection has boasted a wide range of timepieces that have complied with the many requirements imposed by deep-sea diving. Building on its predecessors and extensive craftsmanship, BALL presents new color variations of the Engineer Master II Diver Chronometer. This diving tool is built for the thrill of adventure and the pursuit of freedom, underscoring the success of this collection.

This dive watch has a water resistance of 300m/1,000ft and runs the BALL RR1101-C caliber, certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). To ensure high accuracy in adverse conditions, the movement is safeguarded by powerful resistance technologies. A mu-metal shield surrounds the caliber allowing an anti-magnetic protection to an intensity of 1,000 Gauss (80,000 A/m). Also, BALL’s patented Amortiser® system absorbs energy created by external shocks and makes sure every component stays intact in case of harsh impact.

The Diver Chronometer features a bi-directional sapphire internal bezel used to count down dive time and ensure safety. Activated by the crown at 2 o’clock, the internal diving bezel can be operated

while completely submerged under water to time the safety stop. With the ingenious “Press-and-Turn” mechanism, this crown is only engaged when it is pressed down, avoiding any accidental adjustment. This bezel remains visible even in total darkness thanks to the cutting-edge Swiss technology of self-powered H₃ gas tubes. H₃ gas is encapsulated in glass micro tubes and light energy is released when the molecules strike the internal colored surface of the tubes. Without any form of charging, the luminosity shines automatically and combats the black expanse of any environment. Notably, for the first time, the tubes are placed underneath the bezel for an uncluttered design. To complete visibility, micro gas tubes have also been placed on the dial and the hands for a total of 36 tubes. The Engineer Master II Diver Chronometer is offered with either a classic mix of green and yellow tubes or a more modern rainbow-colored combination.

With a thickness of only 13.5mm, the 42mm stainless steel Engineer Master II Diver Chronometer is now available in a various combination of dial colors, and either on a stainless steel bracelet or rubber strap. It features hours, minutes, sweep seconds and a magnified date.

Today, more than ever, BALL Watch is continuing its journey and asserting its role as a key protagonist in the exploration of modern time and the evolution of watchmaking history.

Limited to 1,000 pieces.

THE COLLECTIBLES

Jaeger-LeCoultre has proudly announced the launch of The Collectibles, a new programme for collectors and enthusiasts who wish to acquire a piece of history from La Grande Maison.

Introduced to coincide with 190 years of the Manufacture, the Collectibles presents a meticulously curated collection of rare and sought-after timepieces that represent high-water marks for both Jaeger-LeCoultre and 20th-century watchmaking.

Over time, a continually evolving selection of timepieces will be available to purchase through The Collectibles on jaeger-lecoultre. com and in the form of capsule collections that will travel around the world.

Among the first to be offered are fine examples of a Geophysic, a Memovox Parking, a Master Mariner Deep Sea and a Shark Deep Sea. Every Collectibles timepiece is presented with an

extract from the Jaeger-LeCoultre archives, a new watch strap and a complimentary copy of The Collectibles coffee-table book. In addition, when available, the original box and papers, and original strap or bracelet will be included.

Every piece offered through The Collectibles is thoroughly vetted by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s historical experts and fully serviced and restored by the specialised watchmakers of the Manufacture’s restoration workshop.

Currently numbering 10 experts, the restoration team can go through the Manufacture’s archives and find the blueprint of every piece ever made, and in some cases also find a stock of original spare components. If there is no component to hand, there is a stock of some 6,000 swages or stamps that they can use to make an identical component from scratch. Because the manufacture

jaeger-lecoultre.com

JAEGER-LECOULTRE

is fully integrated, the entire process can be carried out in-house. While the mechanical restoration may, in some cases, be significant, the intervention on the case and dial must be kept to a minimum, since too much work would alter the historical nature of the piece for collectors; therefore, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Heritage team seeks watches that are as close as possible to their original condition.

“Being able to restore these remarkable timepieces and offer them once again is a nice tribute to our current environment, in which sustainability and second lives have come to the fore,” says Catherine Rénier. “It is fantastic to see 50- or 80-year-old pieces given a new life. For me, that symbolises the beauty of our world – of timeless and durable objects to be passed from one generation to the next.”

The Collectibles coffee-table book covers the period from 1925 to 1974, surveying 17 of the most significant models produced by the Manufacture during this ‘golden age’ of 20th-century watchmaking. Shining the spotlight on the pioneering spirit that has always driven La Grande Maison, the roll-call of groundbreaking innovations includes timepieces such as the Reverso, Memovox, Futurematic and Geophysic. A full chapter is devoted to each of the 17 models, providing an encyclopaedic history and including essential data for collectors supplemented by detailed and informative photography, and copies of historic documents from the Manufacture’s archives.

While Jaeger-LeCoultre collectors and enthusiasts have always been able to glean information from a variety of different resources online and in print, this is the first time such detailed information on these key 20th-century models has been brought together in a single volume, written by the experts within La Grande Maison. Besides providing indispensable data for collectors,

The Collectibles book offers history aficionados a broader understanding of the evolution of the modern mechanical watch over the course of half a century. With background stories that place the watches in the historical and cultural context in which they were born, the book brings a fresh perspective to the way that watchmaking responded to the momentous social changes that occurred during the 20th century and the role played in that evolution by the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre.

With the increasing freedom of women in the 1920s, wristworn watches, along with radically new styles of dress, liberated them from the stiffness and constraints of old society; in the 1930s, the Reverso - with its distinctive style, coloured dials and unisex appeal - epitomised the lifestyle of the newly fashionable ‘sporting gentleman’; as the 1950s brought an emphasis on technology and the emergence of the international businessman, Jaeger-LeCoultre responded with automatic movements and numerous useful functions - as seen in the Futurematic, Memovox and Geophysic.

More than a collection of watches, The Collectibles provides a snapshot of a remarkable period in world history.

ACQUA DI PARMA

Their latest innovation, Acqua di Parma proudly presents Colonia Limited Edition.

Designed by Samuel Ross with a reimagining of its signature fragrance bottle by SR_A, Ross’ London-based, industrial design studio, the fragrance is the first iteration of a three-year partnership between Acqua di Parma and SR_A.

A true piece of art, the iconic Colonia - presented at Design Miami - is an artistic play on duality.

SR_A (Samuel Ross and Associates) was first debuted by Samuel Ross at the Hublot Design Prize exhibition in the Serpentine Gallery in 2019 and is a design-led studio operating within the fields of luxury industrial design, interior installation, architecture, furniture and sound design and visual

communication.

A project of both conservation and renovation, Colonia Limited Edition by Samuel Ross reshuffles the design codes of each maison to create an entirely new blueprint which will drop globally this March.

Founded in Italy in 1916, Acqua di Parma burst on to the market with Colonia as its debut fragrance. Reassuring and sophisticated, Colonia is iconic with an uplifting citrus-blend that evokes the scent and soul of Italy.

Originally created in 1916, Colonia is the definition of a timeless classic that is still in high demand today. The instantly

acquadiparma.com

recognisable golden fruits blend of radiant lemon, Calabrian bergamot and orange, with a heart of lavender, rose and rosemary and woody notes of vetiver, sandalwood and patchouli create an effortless scent that is not only long-lasting, but eternally elegant.

The new Colonia Limited Edition, designed by Samuel Ross celebrates the timelessness of its signature scent, which has endured, unchanged, for more than 100 years.

Samuel Ross’ dynamic interpretation of Colonia is an ode to the past, funnelled through his contemporary lens to create a vision of the future.

Exuberant and industrialist, multi-disciplinary artist and designer Samuel Ross looked to the architecture and attitudes of London and Milan as the foundation point for inspiration. Informed by the structures of Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, Ross imagined the sun - an eternal source of inspiration for Acqua di Parma - glazing across a European cityscape, with the vantage points of light informing the vision for this striking take on the Italian classic.

London’s urban brutalism is represented in a hyper-flat, uberpigmented yellow that absorbs the light: providing a reimagining of Acqua di Parma’s signature colour, which formed the starting point for this collaboration.

A real jolt to the senses, this optimistic hue synonymous with Acqua di Parma is imprinted with SR_A’s visual handwriting. Sun_Rise_Yellow is juxtaposed with primary shades of Grass_ Blade_Green and Ultra_Orange, an industrial nod to Samuel Ross’ own practice.

While the evolution of palette forms a new design language that pays homage to the heritage of Italian and British modernism, the iconic Art Deco bottle remains. The juice itself, consistent as an Italian golden citrus- blend since its first unveiling in 1916, is a timeless masterpiece, and the bottle, a scaffold for display.

Aligned with the architectural ethos, varying vantage points and perspectives are explored, like a looking glass - the bottle is a window, a synergetic metaphor for this collaborative sharing of ideas. This is further demonstrated through the stripping of

the label, with lithographed lettering: in peeling back the layers, a new-found focus emerges. It’s a distillation of the Maison’s codes in its purest form.

Prismic points of interest are discovered as light refracts off its angles. Colonia Limited Edition designed by Samuel Ross is a tangible sculpture created with a digital-first audience in mind. Hold the bottle up to the light and watch it transform. The object becomes interactive, creating thoughtful images to cherish throughout the day as one might recall a moment of sunlight - think midday sunlight refracting off The Centre Pompidou, or The Shard. Such beauty is in the eye of each beholder.

A connective bridge between two cities, and two distinct maisons, Acqua di Parma Colonia Limited Edition, designed by Samuel Ross, is an ode to cross-border creativity and community. This is reflected in the unique, co-branded design. The collection will be unveiled in a series of international retail spaces designed in tandem by SR_A and Acqua di Parma. From unpolished aluminium shelving to powder-coated pigment fixtures, materiality pays homage to industrial design, while effective use of

colour amps up the voltage to inject a youthful vibrancy and intensity into the traditional retail model. Each space is an in-real-life shopping experience for the online age, again blending the old and new in an engaging, tangible way.

Crafted in Italy, Acqua di Parma Colonia Limited Edition, designed by Samuel Ross will be released globally on March 15.

300 numbered, special-edition collectors bottles, spanning the three colours in ascending order, will be released on March 1. Each will come with an exclusive art publication featuring behind-the-scenes stories and visuals. In the days leading up to the launch on Acqua di Parma’s social channels, information will be provided on how to subscribe to the dedicated list that will be exclusively accessible at the time of release.

The 300 numbered special-edition collectors’ bottles will be released exclusively at Selfridges London and on acquadiparma.com priced at £186.00 for 100ml.

The second release limited edition Acqua di Parma x Samuel Ross will be available exclusively at Selfridges priced at £140.00 for 100ml.

Vincent Ford, NARS global makeup ambassador offers his top tips:

Glossier is always innovating based on community feedback, scientific advancements, and regulatory changes. For a while now, the Glossier community has been vocal about their desire for the brand's do-everything lip balm to come back in the much loved Wild Fig edition and Glossier has listened! The fruity, jammy coral tint is now part of it's permanent collection and now comes with a no-touch applicator and a new vegan formula without Petrolatum.

Glossier has replaced the Petrolatum with Castor Jelly, a new cutting-edge, fully renewable, vegetable-based ingredient. It looks and feels similar to Petrolatum but is a little less greasy and has even more unique moisturising properties.

"Radiant Creamy Concealer has the NARS Light Diffusing Technology which reflects the light in a more diffused way that helps lift and brighten the skin. It not just about reflecting the light but reflecting it in a way that is soft and diffused."

"If you've never tried it you’ll really like it’s perfect mix of radiant and natural finishes. It has mineral powders and vitamin E built in which helps reduce the look of fine lines while still hydrating and firming the skin. For me the thing I love the most about it is the coverage which is buildable and can go from natural to full by layering it."

Inspired by the Gladiators of Rome, the famed fighters and tacticians of their time, Gladiator Oud opens with a burst of elemental saltiness, evoking the power and thrill of combat through Ambergris, Cardamom and Immortelle. RETINOL

Retinol is an amazing addition to your routine, but it can irritate more sensitive skin. Retinol encourages faster skin cell turnover, sometimes causing skin 'shedding' - revealing smoother, glowing skin underneath. This can leave more sensitive skin feeing irritated and red. There are many ways you can try to reduce irritation from retinol. If you have sensitive or reactive skin, take it slow! Retinols that are a lower dose and contain antiinflammatories are a good place to start. Farmacy Beauty's 1% Vitamin A Serum contains two pure and potent retinoids (one fastacting, the other encapsulated) but it is 1% and blended with Ceramides to rehydrate and replenish the skin's barrier, plus added Upcycled Raspberry Seed Oil soothes and hydrates the skin to minimise irritation.

The more stable the molecule, the more effective it can be on the skin. Medik8's Crystal Retinal offers a level of retinal stability featuring their renowned crystal encapsulation and a patentpending formula complex. Available in 5 strengths: 1, 3, 6, 10 and 20. Most customers start on Crystal Retinal 3 (for skincare beginners) or 6 (for experienced skincare users), then over time move up to 10. The dual-layered stability system comes together to protect the retinal molecule for unmatched potency and long-lasting effectiveness for brighter, smoother and firmer skin. Find out which level of Crystal Retinal is right for you at medik8.com

With 3.5% high dose retinol, this fast acting multi-retinoid serum visibly reduces the 4 signs of skin ageing in just two weeks. Gentle enough for nighttime use, the formula includes Squalane to soothe, smooth and minimise the appearance of pores. Use alongside SPF in the daytime, two times a week before building gradually to nightly use on face and neck.

Unlocking even greater retinoid power, the formula also includes 5% Granactive Retinoid - a new generation retinoid that is not only incredibly powerful but it is also ultra-gentle too.

Dr Sam says: “If your skin is sensitive, I suggest using Flawless Nightly Serum first for three months, then step up to Flawless Nightly Pro. For those with oily/combination and normal/tolerant skin or those who have been using a retinoid for a while, gradual introduction to Flawless Nightly Pro is recommended. Use one pump every other night for two weeks, and then increase to nightly use as tolerated. Use it for a minimum of four weeks and prepare to fall in love with your skin!”

LUXURIOUS GOLFING IN LISBON

Offering one of the finest selection of courses in and around Lisbon, Orizonte delivers a golfing experience in Portugal unlike any other. Whether you're looking for a challenging golf escape or want to enjoy sampling everything the area has to offer, they have the experience for you.

ORIZONTE

Because of its environment which is particularly attractive to many golfers, Lisbon is very popular destination and is home to some of the finest, internationally recognised courses. With Lisbon airport just six minutes away from the city, this makes Lisbon a very convenient go to for golf professionals, especially the Orizonte courses. Near Portugal’s capital city, they offer unforgettable experiences for all golfers.

Just south of Lisbon and each with their own unique characteristics, Orizonte showcases five well-established courses which are situated in the natural beauty of the Costa Azul region.

Two much visited courses are in the Aroeira Golf resort where a stay at the Aroeira Lisbon Hotel Sea & Golf Hotel is a must. One of the region’s newest hotels, it is only thirty minutes from the city. Located right in the heart of one of the most exclusive golf resorts, Aroeira Lisbon Hotel brings together the best of both worlds, the cosmopolitan charm of the capital, with the total immersion of a place surrounded by sea, nature and the fairways of two exceptional golf courses; the Aroeira Pine Classic and the Aroeira Challenge.

The hotel has sixty-six double rooms and two large suites which are all designed to create inviting and relaxing environments which are in total harmony with the green of the surrounding pine trees. A light lunch at the Aoreira clubhouse is a perfect start before you tee off at the challenging Aroeira Pines Classic 1. Set in a protected pine forest very close to the beaches of costa da Caparica, Aroeira is a unique estate which, apart from the two golf courses, is also home to a host of impressive mansions. Benefitting from a micro-climate which allows golf to be played all year round Aroeira was affectionately christened the ‘Wentworth of Lisbon’ by the UK press.

Opened in 1973, the 18-hole Aroeira Pines Classic championship course was designed by Architect Frank Pennick and is considered by experts as one of the best courses in Europe. It is on the list of the “100 best European courses” by Golf World magazine, as well as the Aroeira Challenge course. The course was the venue for the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and, in addition to staging several Ladies’ European Tour events, has hosted numerous prestigious national and international tournaments.

Aoreira Lisbon Hotel - Sea & Golf | aroeiralisbonhotel.com
ORIZONTE

Played through tall avenues of pine forest and surrounded by wildlife and nature, the golf course plays to 6,650 yards and demands accuracy in placement of the tee in order to maximise opportunities to hit the target greens in regulation.

After a relaxing day on the golf course treat yourself to a few drinks at the clubhouse before transferring back to your hotel to enjoy dinner at the Aroeria Lisbon Hotel’s Inpar fine dining restaurant. Known as a gastronomic hotspot which is not only one of the best restaurants in the region, it’s also the destination of choice for true wine lovers.

After breakfast, transfer to the Aroeira Challenge 11, the other course at the resort. Opened in 2000, designed by Donald Steel and built to exacting European Tour recommendations with future high competitions in mind, Aroeira compliments its older sister well. Visitors can enjoy the distinct tranquil and serene Aroeira environment but will discover a course that possesses a few thrills and spills along the way.

At more than 7,000 yards from the back tees and with eighteen large, undulating greens skirting five large lakes, the tees on each hole allow the course to be played by all types of players. It has hosted several years of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School and several editions of the Portuguese Ladies Opens.

You can experience an unforgettable evening out in Lisbon by enjoying a few drinks at Bar Pestana CR7 before heading out to dinner at Lisboa à Noite. of water and the original Pombaline arches. The menu is full of delicacies of Portuguese inspiration that exalts a demanding palate, especially when accompanied by some of the best and rarest Portuguese wines.

After breakfast at the Pestana CR7, transfer to Ribagolfe Oaks, another of Orizonte’s courses which was designed by former Ryder Cup player, Michael King, in collaboration with European Tour Design. A shorter course than Ribagolfe Lakes with wider fairways and landing areas, this 6,200m course, Par 72, was thought to be used primarily by club players as it’s less demanding than Ribagolfe Lakes. The greens are quite large and moderately contoured but still prove to be a challenge if you are to score well here. Water obstacles come into play on holes 6 and 13, which adds freshness and comfort to a golf journey between friends. Other obstacles are small valleys that threaten exits on Par 3 holes.

Both Ribagolfe courses are set in a magnificent forest of cork trees where you can find an undulating route along the entire course, providing fantastic views of the holes surrounded by valleys and lakes. Lunch can be taken at the Ribagolfe clubhouse which is set on the edge of the golf course where traditional Portuguese dishes are served.

Start your fine dining experience with a cocktail or two on the 38th floor where the main bar is situated. Anchored in the docklands, the bar at Bōkan 38 champions locally distilled spirits and imaginative cocktails alongside a selection of craft beers and an extensive wine list. The inventive cocktail menu, created by Head Bartender, Generoso D’Avino and his talented team of top London mixologists pays homage to the rich history of Canary Wharf, with tipples inspired by the West India Docks, East India Docks and Royal Docks, alongside unique sharing vessels inspired by the Blackwell Levels. All cocktails are made using carefully sourced ingredients from countries that set sail to the Docks to trade in the 1800s.

More than just a steak eatery, other main highlights include Cornish dover sole a la meunière with preserved lemon, parsley and brown butter; grilled Launceston double CUT lamb chops; and heritage pumpkin agnolotti with sage brown butter and pumpkin seeds. There's no going hungry here.

Dessert, if you can imagine it, is just as decadent with the likes of dulcey chocolate rocher served with salted caramel ice cream and crystallised almond; and burnt Basque cheesecake with Yorkshire rhubarb and pistachio tuile all on the menu.

Alongside special set menus, guests can also experience a taste of The Oscars here in London, with Wolfgang Puck’s same famous dishes available in CUT and BAR 45. Sample Oscar-worthy specials from executive chef Elliott Grover alongside Wolfgang Puck’s signature chicken pot pie. 'Oscars' Chicken Pot Pie

Elliott Grover, Wolfgang Puck’s protégée has headed up the kitchens at 45 Park Lane for almost a year, before that having worked in celebrated establishments across the British capital. 45 Park Lane is located next to its sister hotel, The Dorchester yet stands alone as one of the best contemporary hotels in London. The hotel is also known for its rolling art exhibitions with the next one being French Israeli abstract painter, Yoram Chisin, who works with texture on his canvases will be showcasing 20 paintings that aim to reveal emotions that lie below the surface.

year’s Oscars and will be presenting chicken pot pie, fish and chips and a sherry trifle. The pie however is the star of the show, he only uses white meat of the chicken, and the golden pastry will be cut at the table with shards of aromatic black truffle.

INGREDIENTS for four people

4tbsp Unsalted Butter (at room temperature) | 4tbsp All-Purpose Flour (plus more for dusting) | 500ml Good-Quality Chicken Stock | Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper to Taste | 1 Pinch Cayenne Pepper to Taste (optional) | 2tbsp Double Cream (plus more for egg wash) | 1kg Cooked Boneless, Skinless Chicken (shredded) | 200g Carrot (peeled and cut into 1/2-inch (1cm) pieces) | 200g Red-Skinned Potato (cut into 1/2-inch (1cm) pieces)

75g Frozen Peas or Shelled Fresh Peas | 250g Puff Pastry (defrosted following package instructions) | 1 Black Truffle to Taste (optional) | 1 Large Egg

METHOD

Melt the butter in a large, deep saucepan. Add the flour and whisk to ensure there are no lumps before adding the chicken stock. Cook for 5-10 minutes while continuously stirring.

Check the consistency by dipping the back of a spoon into the sauce and running your finger along the spoon. You want the sauce to cling to the spoon and not run over the swipe you made.

Continue to cook and stir the sauce over medium heat until you reach the correct consistency. Season with the salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using). Taste the sauce and see if your sauce needs more seasoning. Add the cream and stir to combine.

Add the shredded chicken, carrots, potatoes, and peas to the sauce. Cook the vegetables in the sauce for 2-3 minutes.

Transfer the filling to a clean bowl and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour, or until cool.

Preheat the oven to 200˚C (400˚F).

Roll out the puff pastry, using a bit of extra flour to ensure the

pastry doesn’t stick to your work surface. Use a bowl or plate about an inch (2cm) larger than the dish you are cooking your pot pie in as a guide to cut out your pastry.

Carefully spoon the chilled filling into oven-proof serving bowls. Break the egg in a small bowl and add a tablespoon of water or cream. Whisk with a fork. Brush the egg wash on the edges and rim of your dishes.

If desired, shave truffles over the filling. Lay the pastry rounds over the top, being careful not to stretch the pastry. Seal the edges of the pastry by lightly pushing it onto the rim of your dish to make sure it is secure. Brush the top and sides with more egg wash.

Place the pot pies on a large baking sheet and bake for 25-35 minutes, until the pastry is a nice golden, dark brown and there are no more greyish raw patches.

Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

THE LIBERTINE

Hidden deep in the historical vaults beneath The Royal Exchange, The Libertine is one of the city's best kept secrets. With an unassuming entrance, head down the stairs to discover the large destination bar, dining spaces, and two private dining rooms including a whiskey vault for paired whiskey experiences.

A truly stunning space, with a capacity of 450, the striking arches once housed the varying spices, silks and gold that enriched London in years gone by.

Steeped in history, The Royal Exchange was opened by Queen Elizabeth 1st in 1571, who awarded it the ‘Royal’ title and granted it a licence to sell alcohol and expensive goods. As the first venue to serve alcohol in London with a Royal Licence, The Libertine is a place of celebration and generous hospitality, paying homage to its rich, fruitful past.

Alongside the large bar, under another set of arches, is the main restaurant. Atmospheric with a chequered floor, exposed brick and plush velvet curtains, the venue is the ideal setting for catchups with friends, colleagues and romantic date nights.

Serving food from lunch until late, start the meal with a range of snacks for the table while you peruse the menu. The maple honey drizzled aubergine crisps are wonderfully moreish, as are the nocellara olives or market oysters with a glass of champagne.

Starters include black truffle and wild mushroom arancini with a basil pesto, plant grana padano; crispy king prawns with five spice seasoning, lime, ginger and chilli mayonnaise; and scallop St Jacques with seaweed and garlic butter.

Moving on to mains and seafood, the lobster roll with butter poached Cornish lobster, crayfish, horseradish marie rose and caviar, served in a toasted brioche milk bun, with skin on fries is a winner regardless of whether you dine for lunch or dinner.

Other seafood dishes include a lobster gratin with gruyere mornay,

herb crumb, triple cooked chips and lemon; and a Libertine fish pie with salmon, prawn, scallop and smoked haddock in a white wine sauce.

Mains also feature a selection of dishes from Launceston lamb rump; blackened cajun chicken; and vegetarian options such as the plant burger or miso aubergine.

Showcasing The Libertine's range, there is also a list of grande cuts include chateaubriand, côte de boeuf and porterhouse steaks available from 500g upwards and sourced ethically from native breeds that eat and live naturally. In contrast, the steak tasting board, suitable for four people, presents an array of 1.2 kilogram dry aged prime cuts, including fillet and rib eye.

Add some sides like the delectable red leicester mac, or triple cooked chips and buttered greens.

Dessert, if you have space, includes a decadent eton mess and salted toffee sauce sticky toffee pudding. Both irresistible, even if you don't have space.

Those looking for a savoury finish can choose the artisan cheese board offering a selection of four artisanal cheeses, served with crackers, grapes, chutney and celery.

With such a striking location, it comes as no surprise that the drinks menu has been created in partnership with some of the city's finest distilleries, breweries and wine merchants.

Offering quality wines from respected world vineyards and a reserve list displaying finer vintages for special occasions, The Libertine also has a fantastic cocktail menu with both classics and mocktails.

Must-tries include the smoky thyme old fashioned; pink peppercorn negroni, and non-alcoholic, highly refreshing ginger mojito.

With free spirited hedonism at its centre, fantastic food, service and unique spaces for every occasion - since opening in October last year, The Libertine has fast become the destination in the city for parties, drinking and dining alike, from morning through to late night.

MOTHER'S DAY PAIRINGS

How to treat your Mother like a Queen this Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day, the Bureau du Champagne are here to guide you on how to find the perfect Champagne to celebrate the special women in your life.

But how did Champagne become the ultimate drink of celebration? Throughout history, Champagne has been an elegant extra and a luxury staple for many. By the 19th Century, Champagne was consumed at every major British occasion, from Royal Weddings to high-society parties and it has continued to mark both the joy and sanctity of important occasions in our lives. Symbolically, it marks the successes we have achieved, the

milestones we have hit, and the congratulations from those around us. With its effervescence and fine bubbles dancing in your glass and its irresistible fragrance and aromas - Champagne has the power to elevate any occasion.

With this in mind, the Bureau du Champagne UK shares its favourite pairings to elevate every aspect of Mothering Sunday.

Greek yogurt, and a sprinkle of freshly grated lime or orange zest. This will pair perfectly with a non-vintage Champagne Brut with its liveliness, minerality and notes of citrus fruits and white flowers. A non-vintage brut is characteristically an essential classic Champagne that pairs beautifully with everything and is an excellent way to kick off Mother’s Day.

A Champagne Roast

If you have got a traditional Sunday roast planned this Mother’s Day then opt for a Champagne with punch such as a Blanc de Noirs. Blanc de Noirs refers to a Champagne made from black grape varieties alone such as Pinot Noir or Meunier. These wines generally give an impression of power, density and structure when compared to those wines with white grapes in their blend. This gives the wines a powerful body with notes of white and yellow fruits - an excellent companion to the complex flavours of the red meats that you might choose for your roast.

A Sweet Day

Mother’s Day calls for your Mum’s favourites desserts such as strawberry fruit tart which will go exceptionally well with a delicate and fruity Rosé Champagne. Vibrantly coloured and sophisticated, Rosé Champagne’s can boast notes of freshness or even aromas that are smoother and more powerful - any of these variations will add something to your dessert. Alternatively, if your expertise is along the lines of homemade pavlova covered in berries and exotic fruit, why not opt for a sweeter Champagne such as a Sec or Demi-sec - a Champagne Sec is a Champagne containing between 17 and 32 grams of sugar per litre and a Champagne Demi-Sec contains between 32 and 50 grams of sugar per litre - both would perfectly compliment your creation.

Notto’s aim is to serve some of the best pasta you have ever tried. Julian is the CEO and founder member of Pots & Co. who make exceptional hand-made, restaurant quality potted desserts for people at home.

Phil’s enthusiasm for fresh pasta shines through in Notto’s menu offering delicious, authentic pasta dishes flanked by simple, freshly prepared snacks, starters and desserts using the very best ingredients. Eight pasta dishes are available daily and will change according to the season, but highlights include: gnocchetti with smashed

sausage, white wine, fennel and chilli; pappardelle with slow cooked shin of beef, oxtail and red wine; bucatini with a ragout of autumn vegetables, mushrooms and chestnuts; and squid ink spaghetti with a sauce of sardines, garlic, sweet peppers and tomato. It is recommended that you share three dishes between two people.

Snacks come in the form of gorgeously plump olives, Notto’s rosemary, rock salt, tomato and garlic focaccia, parmesan butter biscuits, wild mushroom arancini and endless crostini. Starters see staples such as vitello tonnato (veal served chilled with a creamy tuna mayonnaisestyle sauce) and mortadella served with pickles given all the love they deserve. Deeply rooted in using extraordinarily good ingredients and recipes honed from Phil’s years of top-flight restaurant cooking, Notto is an affordable and accessible concept celebrating the simplicity of Italian cuisine in a relaxed and fun environment. The 74-cover site is stylish and casual with the focal point of the pasta bar being an open, central kitchen where the pasta magic is visible for all to see. There is a kitchen in the basement where the pasta is freshly made daily and brought up to the restaurant. The light-filled space has a neutral colour palette - think stone-coloured walls, oversized rattan light shades, touches of olive-green mosaic tiles and wooden features - which come together to evoke a warm and comfortable Italian trattoria.

HoppersMarylebone

With three locations across London, Hoppers is the place to get a Sri Lankan foodie fix. The Marylebone site in particular takes its inspiration from the Tropical Modernist movement associated with the late Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.

Featuring a selection of signature dishes, and a cocktail menu crafted with ingredients from the spice gardens of Sri Lanka, be transported through a mix of tastes, smells and laid back atmosphere to a far flung land.

The menu is divided up into sections and is best tried shared between friends. Start with a selection of the short eats and bites and a kothu - a popular street dish made with finely chopped roti cooked with vegetables, meat or seafood, before moving on to mains.

The Hopper (a bowl shaped fermented rice and coconut milk pancake) of course is a must try, as are the kari (curries) together with the sambols or chutneys to dip.

If you can't decide, or haven't visited before, a great way to try a selection is to opt for the Taste of Hoppers menu. With two options - a vegetarian or meat menu - there is something for everyone and both menus feature delectable banana chips, dhal kari, raita and your choice of a hopper, dosa or basmati rice. Highlights of the veggie menu include jackfruit and mushroom kothu roti; hot butter chilli paneer; and aubergine kari. While the meat eaters can indulge in mutton roll and SL hot sauce; bone marrow varuval and roti; and jaffna crab kari.

Wash it all down with a glass of wine or a Metroland Colombo IPA. The signature cocktails don't disappoint, with the likes of the ruby punch - a blend of Five Rivers rum, red port, ceylon tea and kumquat; and the

soft creations like ocean bloom - cold brew hibiscus and blackcurrant tea.

Hoppers also supports their own 'Feeding The Future' initiative in response to the ongoing political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka. In an effort to distribute nutritiously balanced dry rations to school children in disadvantage communities in Sri Lanka, a discretionary £1 is added to your bill. This can be removed should you wish, although it is a very worthy cause.

ELECTRI500

your
Bringing a classic Italian icon into the 21st Century, this unique Fiat 500 restomod takes the art of electrification to the next level. Maintaining everything the 500 stood for, this electrically modified car is a little thing of beauty.

RS e-tron GT

Heralding a new era in electric mobility for the four-ringed marque, Audi's RS e-tron GT delivers an electric powerhouse with dynamism, style and an all-important long range. This is the new age of gran turismo automotive design and of course, Audi are keen to show off their design expertise and technological knowhow in a way few others can.

The result is this, the new flagship of electrification for the brand that continues the emotive, aggressive and angular design ethos we have come to love from the rest of the RS stable. Despite featuring the convenience of four doors, this low, wide and sleek coupé has it all when it comes to packing an aesthetic punch. Heavily designed with aerodynamics at the fore - as with all performance vehicles, but especially electric ones - the profile lends itself to a high performance appearance and the features only add to the visual masterpiece.

Slender headlights rest under the bonnet lip and move angularly down in to the recognisable front grille - which in this case isn't so much needed for cooling purposes as to continue brand identity across all of their cars - which is supported by vast side vents completing the front profile. From here, a number of lines begin their journey back along the sides of the car as well as across the bonnet. All of which aid in the aerodynamic efficiency of the RS e-tron GT, but also add to the stylish aesthetic of the car.

The roofline not only sweeps down to the sleek rear of the car, but also tapers in to the rear revealing bulging rear wheel arches giving a considerable hint to this car's capabilities. Paired with huge wheels and an athletic rear complete with rear light strip that connects the rear light clusters, this is a car that is instantly recognisable as a performance machine and one that will turn heads in any situation. audi.co.uk

AUDI RS E-TRON GT

With such a visual impact, there needs to be some serious engineering underneath to live up to its appearance. Fortunately Audi's history in electric technology through both existing production vehicles and a rich modern motorsport heritage means they are perfectly placed to engineer a machine suited to its outer shell.

As a result, the two electric motors on the front and rear axles provide a dynamic touring sports car drive that is both comfortable and exciting. Packing 598PS the RS e-tron GT's power can briefly increase to 646PS when in overboost for an even more dynamic launch which will propel you from standing to sixty-two miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds. A torque figure of 630Nm aids in the completion of a swift sprint. When the driver fully depresses the accelerator pedal from a standstill, the two-speed transmission on the rear axle engages first gear and utilises the support from the

impressive, lightning fast, electric all-wheel drive for maximum stability and traction.

It's not all take, take. take however as the drive system also performs energy recuperation under braking and will shift into coasting mode when the right foot is raised from the accelerator extending the potential range. And its range is not to be scoffed at. Boasting a maximum range of up to 283 miles - depending on your choice of trim and options - it packs a high-voltage battery which integrates flexible pouch cell technology allowing a net capacity of 84kWh. Thanks to its 800 volts, you can utilise fast direct current (DC) charging up to a maximum of 270 kW. Under ideal conditions, it would take just five minutes to charge for a distance of around 62 miles, and with the e-tron Charging Service, you can charge with alternating and direct current at around 200,000 charging points across Europe using just a single card.

YOUR DRIVE

The key component in ensuring a comfortable yet dynamic gran turismo character is of course the suspension. Designed as a sporty double wishbone construction, the wheel suspension has a classic design on the front axle, while the upper wishbones in the rear are divided into individual links with almost all parts being forged or cast from aluminium.

Adaptive air suspension comes as standard on the RS model, activating and deactivating the three-chamber suspension on both front and rear axles depending on the driving situation to accommodate comfort and stability during both smooth and dynamic driving, reducing body movement.

The air suspension can also adjust the body to different heights, lowering it by up to 10 millimeters at a speed of 56mph, and by another 12 millimeters at 112mph. It also works in the opposite direction when driving at a speed below 18.6 mph, whereby you can set a lift mode that raises the body by 20 millimeters, ideal for those larger speed bumps or raised driveways.

Supporting all of this is the electromechanical steering which delivers a sporty and direct ratio of 15.4:1 but without any

excessive sharpness to ensure a responsive yet relaxed drive that you can enjoy as a driver. You can also utilise all-wheel steering which is available as an option.

Braking on the RS e-tron GT comes in the shape of six-piston calipers, which are available in red or orange as an option, with 410 millimeter cast-iron disks with a tungsten carbide coating. This Audi carbide brake system increases the braking performance and reduces wear and therefore brake dust. At the same time it prevents flash rust, a typical phenomenon seen in many electric cars that do not use their wheel brakes very often. The optional top-of-theline offering includes brake disks made of carbon fibre ceramic, which are especially lightweight, powerful, and durable with a diameter of 420 millimeters on the front axle and their ten-piston calipers which are painted in grey as standard, or in red or blue as an option.

What makes this car that much more impressive is all of the technology behind how it operates. The controlled rear-axle differential lock for example, which comes as standard with the RS, has a multi-plate clutch at its core which can be actuated

audi.co.uk

AUDI RS E-TRON GT

fully variably with the locking range extending from zero to 100 percent. You can perceive this on slippery road surfaces and during maximum full-stop braking in particular, where the lock opens up completely, allowing the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) to brake each wheel with incredible precision. Improving traction and stability, while increasing lateral acceleration and reducing unwanted movement. The rear wheel on the inside of the bend is braked in a targeted manner as the car enters a sharp corner - resulting in the car turning slightly into the bend.

Inside, as we've come to expect from Audi, you will find a huge touchscreen from which you can operate every function imaginable on the car while it does also feature tactile switchgear for a number of options commonly used such as climate control, seat heating and ventilation - a very welcome addition for those warmer days - and parking features including the camera system to assist you at the touch of a button when you find yourself in a tight spot.

This is an engineering masterpiece that blends the electrical with the mechanical in perfect harmony, making the most of Audi's extensive history in automotive design. Delivering a driving experience that can be enjoyed regardless of the trip you are taking and how long it might be, it is a fun on the inside as it is from the outside. Just make sure you know where the next charging point is in case you get a little pedal happy. We won't blame you.

RAV4 PLUG-IN

Gracing UK roads since 1994, the RAV4 has been a staple in the Toyota line-up for almost three decades. Now, taking its place at the top of the hybrid model line, the RAV4 Plug-in delivers an unrivalled combination of power and efficiency.

Outperforming all rivals in its class in both low emissions - at an impressive 22g/km - and fuel economy - boasting a staggering 282.4mpg on a WLTP combined cycle - this is a seriously efficient SUV. Offering the ability to operate as an authentic electric vehicle - which is actually the vehicle's default state - the RAV4 Plug-in can cover up to 46 miles from a full charge and still hit speeds of up to 84mph without the hybrid system kicking in for support.

What this means for real-world driving is the opportunity to undertake the majority of your daily journeys on completely electric power whether that's a daily commute, dropping the children off at school or a quick run to the shops.

At the point you eventually do need some extra power, the hybrid system with its 2.5-litre VVT-i engine - which remains classleading in efficiency in its own right - kicks in for support, delivering the most powerful overall offering in the RAV4 range. Reaching a maximum output of 306PS with the hybrid system working at full

capacity, combining the engine with two synchronous motors - one at the front and one at the rear - the Plug-in with help from the impressive AWD-i system will take you from zero to sixty-two in 6.0 seconds, a whole 2.1 seconds faster than the standard hybrid AWD-i variant. What's more, in full EV mode, its accelerative performance remains comparable to a 2.0-litre petrol model at 10 seconds.

With such an efficient system available, you could simply spend your time running fully electric as long as you are able to charge at suitable intervals between journeys, but the Plug-in has four different drive modes for you to choose from to suit your needs.

EV, HV, Auto HV/EV and Charging modes are all available. Operating in EV mode as a default, you can enjoy commuting fully electric without any requirement to use the hybrid system at all, or switch to HV mode to make the most of the full power potential the car has, initiating the engine with boosted performance from the electric motors. In Auto HV/EV mode, the car will operate in an electric capacity - battery dependant - an utilise the engine as and when needed for additional power before returning immediately back to electric.

toyota.co.uk

TOYOTA

This car is not only capable of charging via plug-in as the title suggests, but you can also use Charging Mode to recoup some battery power from the running engine as in the standard hybrid models, meaning you can still maintain a certain level of EV driving capabilities even without plugging in.

Your can adjust your drive options further by utilising the Normal, Eco and Sport options to adapt throttle performance to suit your needs.

Despite its size, the RAV4 Plug-in continues the dynamic character the powertrain portrays thanks in large to the GA-K platform which offers an even lower centre of gravity - in part thanks to the battery positioning under the floor - which provides improved handling and stability adding to the cars agility on the road.

The platform affords a lightweight yet highly rigid body allowing you to take your RAV4 Plug-in further than ever before. This added rigidity and low centre of gravity means that the suspension doesn't need to be made stiffer to achieve the dynamic driving performance allowing you to continue to enjoy a comfortable ride as much as a dynamic one when required.

Boasting the addition of the AWD-i system, the RAV4 Plug-in reinforces its all-wheel drive performance with Trail Mode, an automatic locking system for the limitedslip differential that the driver can engage using a centre console mounted control. This ensures the best possible grip on slippery and loose surfaces whether that be in adverse weather on the road or negotiating more challenging off-road conditions. For example, if one wheel loses contact with the ground - hopefully not in an on-road situation - Trail Mode will brake the spinning wheel and direct drive torque to the grounded wheel to gain traction, while also automatically adjusting the throttle response and transmission shift pattern.

Inside, all of the necessary controls are clearly and conveniently situated to ensure you spend your time enjoying the road - or other surface - as much as possible without the need to navigate complex menus through the infortainment system.

Comfort remains at the fore, with plenty of space in the cabin for driver and passengers alike, while you can also make use of the Toyota MyT app to schedule and monitor battery charging remotely and operate the air conditioning system to warm up or cool the cabin before setting off to ensure you are comfortable the second you enter the car, every time. Offering this level of efficiency in a car that is just as comfortable on the road as it is off of it is rare to see and boasting such class-leading figures across the board make the RAV4 Plug-in a very inviting venture towards the fully EV world should you wish to dip your toes. Taking the standard hybrid and elevating it with a simple plug-in addition completely changes what this car can achieve and creates the perfect blend of functionality, performance and efficiency.

Restomod

Based on an original 1972 Fiat 500 Berlina - which was the first 500 model to feature front-hinged doors marking an end to the suicide door design from previous iterations - this adaptation is far more than your average Italian icon.

Taking a unique angle on the art of restomod, this 500 has received more than you would expect in the modification department. Professionally restored with an automatic transmission, upgraded disc brakes and Abarth suspension, LED headlights and USB sockets, the car has also undergone a complete conversion to become a fully electric vehicle.

Presented in a stunning Azure Chiaro blue coachwork with new red upholstery, the colour combination does all the talking while you drive around in tranquil quiet thanks to that electric upgrade.

Inside, the interior features a solid oak dash with the whole cabin receiving a full refurbishment. You will find a detachable bluetooth speaker to match the red upholstery which is perfect for taking the soundtrack off-road once you've reached your destination, while the rest of the interior maintains the classic aesthetic that made the original 500 so successful.

The car has also had new chromework fitted along with bespoke floor mats to complete this incredible restomod. It is a must see car that won't hang around for long. Perfect to enjoy a weekend at the beach or to venture off into the countryside with picnic in tow.

Opportunities to get your hands on a restomod of this calibre don't come around very often and delivering such a modern take on one of the biggest automotive icons are even rarer.

PRIME PROPERTY'S PERPETUAL RISE

Savills Research identify the extent to which London's prime property continues to rise in both value and volume with more and more property entering the £1 million and £5 million + market. Now making up almost 10% of all London property, this premium club shows no signs of stopping.

Whether in one of London’s sought after postcodes or its leafier outskirts, owning property in the capital remains as desirable as ever. According to our research, 2022 was a record year for sales above £5 million, while the number of London properties now valued at £1 million and above, increased too.

Savills Frances McDonald details how London’s prime sales markets have strengthened over the last few years, as result of a booming post-lockdown property market, with people placing a greater value on their home and lifestyle.

London retains property millionaire crown

Over the past three years, the number of £1 million-plus homes has increased by some +40% across Great Britain, with 730,390 homes now valued upwards of £1 million. It’ll come as no surprise that the highest concentration of property millionaires are located in London, with properties valued at and above this price point now accounting for one in every 10.6 homes in the capital.

While London has seen has seen the smallest percentage increase to its share of £1 million homes over the past three years, 10,454 properties still tipped over the threshold in 2022, the highest absolute gain of any region. Over the past year, prime central London locations such as Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea saw the largest number of £1 million home sales, closely followed by prime South-West London hotspot, Wandsworth.

The borough of Ealing, which had its place on the map firmly established thanks to the arrival of the Elizabeth Line last year, saw a sizeable uptick in the sale of £1 million homes on the year in 2022 (+58%), while leafier areas such as Richmond saw an increase of 39%. Islington, a popular area for young creatives, has also seen an increase of 38% in homes sales at £1 million and above.

Sales of £5 million-plus homes reaches record high

2022 also marked a record year for London’s £5 million-plus property market. Over the 12-month period there were more than 600 £5 million-plus second hand and new build sales recorded –the highest figure since our records began in 2006.

Over the course of 2022, the total value of £5 million-plus transactions hit £6.57 billion. This is +13% higher than in 2021, which was the previous record year for total spend.

The increase in the volume of sales was driven primarily by activity in the £10-20 million super prime market, which all but doubled (+99%) year on year, and is up by +32% on 2021.

Location wise, 61% of second hand sales took place in traditional prime central London hotspots, led by Chelsea (12.6%), Kensington (10.3%) and Knightsbridge (9.0%). However, the £5 million-plus price tag is being achieved more frequently in the leafier, outer prime parts of the capital – particularly in areas like Clapham, Battersea and Putney – where there is a stronger demand for larger family homes with outside space.

Regeneration and redevelopment, along with the opening of new tube and Crossrail stations has seen areas like Bayswater see more sales of homes at this level. In total, more than 50 London neighbourhoods saw activity in the £5 million-plus market in 2022, with this likely to expand further in 2023.

These higher values have largely been driven by best in class properties and new homes with standout amenities, that are widely sought after by both domestic and overseas buyers. Despite signs of the market easing slightly towards

the back end of last year, likely to be caused by a degree of economic uncertainty, the outlook for London’s property market over the next five years looks more robust, with price growth of +13.5% in prime central London.
