WATCHES

New Era for the Avenger No watch brand in the world has a more impressive and enduring link to aviation than Breitling. The brand provided onboard clocks and other key pieces of equipment for airplanes in the 1930s and 1940s, an era that inspired the modern retro design of the Aviator 8 collection. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, the Navitimer became the ultimate watch for pilots and remains an important part of Breitling’s collection today. Even in the golden age of commercial flight during the ‘60s and ‘70s, some of the most prestigious international airlines relied on Breitling’s onboard clocks while their crews counted on their Breitling watches. Breitling was even there at the dawn of manned space travel: on May 24, 1962, US astronaut Scott Carpenter wore a Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute, made at his own request, on his Mercury space flight, making it the very first Swiss wrist chronograph in space. The Avenger originally debuted in 2001, and with the relaunch, Breitling has updated the collection and positioned it in a proud and unique place in its Air brand universe. The new collection represents nothing less than the transition of one of Breitling’s boldest collections into the era of modern aviation. The Avenger has clearly staked out its own territory at Breitling. breitling.com

It introduces the modern performance-inspired pilot’s watch with pure Breitling DNA to the next generation of men and women of action, purpose, and style. These committed individuals, from pioneering pilots and commercial aviation leaders to influencers and style-drivers, appreciate strikingly fresh watches that still respect the brand’s design codes. Every day, they challenge the ordinary with their exploits in the air, from space travel to precision aerial performance and the new-age challenge of drone competitions. To coincide with the launch of this new Avenger collection, Breitling has assembled a new Aviation Pioneers Squad as part of its #squadonamission campaign, made up of three remarkable individuals who represent different airborne disciplines but all define an incredible new age of adventure in the air: Scott Kelly, Rocío González Torres, and Luke Bannister. These accomplished aerial specialists represent different generations and bring incredibly varied experiences to the Squad. Scott Kelly spent a year of his life looking down at the Earth from the International Space Station (ISS). Commandant Rocío González Torres has logged more than 1000 hours of flight time in a fighter jet and is proud to be a role model for girls and young women determined

to conquer the skies. Finally, Luke Bannister excels in a whole new aviation discipline; he won his first World Drone Championship at the age of 15, and has been on a winning course ever since. There are a whole host of new pieces being released as part of the collection, but there is now arguing with a twist on the clasic. The Breitling Avenger Chronograph 45 is the ultimate classic pilot’s watch. It has a 45 mm stainless-steel case with a unidirectional ratcheted bezel and is available with either a black or blue dial. The models with black dials are presented on either a stainlesssteel bracelet with a folding clasp or an anthracite leather military strap with your choice of a pin or folding buckle. The Avenger Chronograph 45 watches with blue dials feature a stainless-steel bracelet with a folding clasp or a blue leather military strap with a pin or folding buckle. Powered by a self-winding Breitling Caliber 13 mechanical chronograph movement, it has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Its hands and indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova®, a luminescent material that offers optimal legibility in all lighting conditions. Its subdials are located in the 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 9 o’clock positions and there is a date window at 3 o’clock. The COSCcertified chronometer is water resistant to 30 bar/300 meters. The Avenger Chronograph 45 Night Mission brings a unique twist on the classic with a rugged but lightweight 45 mm case made of DLC-coated titanium. Its unidirectional ratcheted bezel and caseback are crafted from the same material. It is available with either a black dial and an anthracite leather military strap with a pin or folding buckle or with a green dial and a khaki-green leather military strap with a pin or folding buckle. The SuperLumiNova®-coated hands and the “stenciled” Arabic numerals make the dial easy to read even in limited lighting conditions. Visit breitling.com to find out more about the new collection.

Limited Edition Hawker Hurricane This limited edition run commemorating the epic Battle of Britain, which perhaps stands as the most seminal moment of air combat during the Second World War, is a labour of design and detail that has taken more than a year of meticulous research, design and production. The many details inherent inside the 4046 make this more than a timepiece. It is in part a wearable testament to the Battle itself. The 43mm diameter case is a classic vintage pilot watch shape replete with genuine scratch resistant sapphire lens and coin edged crown. Carefully hand polished on the bezel for an elegant and high-end look. With 1963 aircraft involved in the Battle of Britain, the decision was made to produce exactly 1963 pieces which represent each aircraft and the fearless pilots who manned them. Running the left side of the case is an individually applied plate that is hand inscribed with each watches unique run number. Each owner of this timepiece will belong to a very select group of watch fans and collectors. Along the right side of the case is the marking RF D. The RF referring to the famed Polish 303 squadron which was the highest scoring Hurricane squadron

during the Battle of Britain. The flared coin edged crown has a vintage like machined look and is topped with an engraved roundel completing the side view of the case which mimics the side view of the Hurricanes. The dial is an intriguing mix of depth and detail. The base panel captures the concentric circles outline of the RAF upon a three armed panel which lifts the 12, 4 and 8 hour indexes. A raised tension ring demarcates the minutes with the lower layer embossed with a subtle horizontal pattern indicating 5 minute intervals in vintage 1940s typography. The hour and minute hands take obvious reference from the propellers found on the Hurricane down to the contrasting blade tips painted on. The see-through exhibition caseback gives view to the workhorse reliability of the Miyota 8215, 21 jewel self-winding automatic movement that has been painstakingly customised with a cutaway rotor in the shape of a Hurricane. The Hurricane 4046 comes strapped with a beautifully supple double lined leather Nato strap and is boxed in the AVI-8 iconic field box style packaging alongside an extra nylon Nato for extra versatility. avi-8.co.uk

Military Grade The British watch brand, Christopher Ward, has unveiled a three-piece watch collection bearing official UK Armed Forces Insignia.

The first Military Collection under the Christopher Ward name, honouring each Service within the UK Armed Forces features the C65 Dartmouth, C65 Sandhurst and C65 Cranwell, with each design influenced by post-war military watches commissioned for the UK Armed Forces in the second half of the 20th Century and are named after the training academy of each of the three Services. Incorporating the vintage DNA of Christopher Ward’s Tridents and chronometer-certified movements, each design bears Christopher Ward’s C65 ‘light-catcher’ case and detailed, Heraldic badge-engraved backplates. Mike France, CEO and Co-founder of Christopher Ward, comments: “Entrusted with the protection of the United Kingdom, its overseas territories and Crown dependencies, as well as supporting international peacekeeping, the UK Armed Forces stand as a beacon of bravery and professionalism in an everevolving world. We’re incredibly proud to add this new, publicly available collection to our decade-long experience in making bespoke watches for UK Armed Forces personnel. Representing the three military Services, each of whom rely upon absolute accuracy, we knew we wanted chronometer-certified movements; our interpretation of each design has been a journey of fascination and emotion as we have uncovered post-war stories from each Armed Service. Christopher Ward’s Military collection delivers world-class levels of timekeeping and design, with each piece adhering to the most stringent technical standards and meticulous levels of precision.” C65 Dartmouth Series 1: Named after the Royal Navy’s Dartmouth-based training academy, Britannia Royal Naval College, the C65 Dartmouth Series 1 pays homage to the Naval Service. The design is inspired by the Omega Seamaster 300 ‘Big Triangle’ - a Ministry of Defence - commissioned piece initially known as the Royal Navy 0552 that launched in 1967. The Dartmouth inherits an aesthetic and features indicative of that iconic period, with the most obvious connection the ‘wedge’ index present at 12 o’clock. This wedge, along with the remainder of its tapering indexes, have been raised, polished and filled with white T-C1 Super-LumiNova®; printed markers are present around the minuterie.

The unidirectional and lumed aluminium bezel features the blue and white colour scheme of the Dartmouth’s dial, complete with another triangle and Arabic numerals, whilst the backplate is engraved with Royal Navy Naval crown insignia. Featuring the C65 collection’s 41mm ‘light-catcher’ case, which blends brushed and polished surfaces with lines that arc towards a central ‘waist’, the C65 Dartmouth recalls the lithe diver watches worn 50 years ago - complete with glass box crystal and 150m water resistance. The new C65 Dartmouth Series 1 is available on three quickrelease strap options including a premium quality canvas webbing strap with Christopher Ward buckle, a marine-grade stainless steel bracelet with micro-adjustable ratchet clasp, vintage oak leather strap with buckle, and Cordura® and rubber hybrid waterproof strap with Christopher Ward buckle. C65 Sandhurst Series 1: A watch indebted to the rough-andready ground operations of the British Army; the C65 Sandhurst Series 1 takes its name from the acclaimed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in Berkshire. The C65 Sandhurst is inspired by the design and legibility of the Smiths W10, a 35mm watch issued to the British Army in 1967 designed for speed of use during operations.

WATCHES

Using a textured black dial as its foundation, Arabic numerals printed with white TC-1 Super-LumiNova® sit within a printed outer white minute track. Old Radium Super-LumiNova® has been applied to rectangular indexes located at each quarter hour interval, along with five minute-positioned dots and an additional triangle at 12 o’clock. The Heraldic badge of the British Army has been intricately engraved into the Sandhurst’s backplate, while the omission of a bezel mimics the look of the Smiths W10. The design also features a push-in crown engraved with Christopher Ward’s twin flag emblem. The new C65 Sandhurst Series 1 is available on three quickrelease strap options including a vintage finish camel coloured leather strap with hand-sewn whip stitch, a marine-grade stainless steel bracelet with micro-adjustable ratchet clasp, and premiumquality canvas webbing strap with Christopher Ward buckle. C65 Cranwell Series 1: Citing the world’s first air academy, Royal Air Force College Cranwell, as its namesake, the C65 Cranwell shares elements with two classic models from the mid20th century: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Mark XI and IWC Mark XI, specification 6B/346. Released in 1949, both were commissioned

by the UK’s Ministry of Defence following the Second World War to help RAF pilots improve accuracy during their operations. Whilst taking aesthetic inspiration from the two watches before it, the C65 Cranwell Series 1 has been updated to reflect the best of today’s technical standards. Bestowing a military feel, the Cranwell has replaced conventional 12-hour numerals with white Super-LumiNova®-coated minute numerals, ensuring excellent levels of visibility. Old Radium has also been applied to indexes every quarter hour and a triangle at 12 o’clock. A graceful 41mm ‘light-catcher’ case provides scope for the distinctive decoration of its backplate, where the Royal Air Force’s iconic Heraldic badge takes pride of place. The level of detail of its deep-stamped backplate is equaled across the remainder of the case, where brushed and polished facets are emphasised by delicately contouring lines that run from its central ‘waist’ section down to its gently inclining lugs. The new C65 Cranwell Series 1 is available on three quickrelease strap options including a marine-grade stainless steel bracelet with micro-adjustable ratchet clasp, a premium quality canvas webbing strap and a vintage finish leather strap with handsewn whip stitch.

URWERK UR-100 SpaceTime

The UR-100 takes you on a journey through both time and space, two concepts at the very core of URWERK.

Using its orbiting satellite hours and minute hands, the UR100 displays both time (hours and minutes) and space (distance travelled), merging these two concepts in the creation of the allnew UR-100 SpaceTime. The UR-100 SpaceTime features URWERK’s iconic orbital hour satellites, differing however in one significant way. Rather than the red-arrow-tipped minute pointers on the hour satellites disappearing after 60 minutes when replaced by the next, the UR-100 minute arrow passes beneath and between subsidiary dials, reappearing to display intriguing new astronomical indications: distance travelled on Earth and distance travelled by Earth. The first indicator at 10 o’clock evaluates the distance in kilometers that you have travelled on the Earth without even leaving your desk! It is based on the average speed of the rotation of the Earth on its axis at the equator, covering a distance of 555 km every 20 minutes. Directly opposite at 2 o’clock, the same hand - well it looks like the same hand, but is actually one of three - continues its journey to another celestial indication featuring the distance the Earth has travelled in its orbit around the sun - a journey spanning some 35,740 km every 20 minutes. The UR-100 simultaneously presents three different space-time realities, providing a thought-provoking reminder of our voyage through time and space. “For me, watches have a philosophical dimension. They are a physical and abstract reproduction of our situation on Earth, with the dial representing the equator, simultaneously in constant motion while seemingly stationary for us,” says Martin Frei, chief designer and co-founder of URWERK. Felix Baumgartner, master watchmaker and the other co-founder of URWERK agrees: “We live in a universe governed by three dimensions - time, rotation, and orbit - that we attempt to measure and master, but what escapes us is this notion of spacetime.” Powering the UR-100 SpaceTime is the automatic Caliber 12.01, with baseplates in ARCAP and a power urwerk.com

reserve of 48 hours. The automatic winding rotor is regulated by a flat turbine, the Windfänger (Swiss German for “air trap”) that minimizes shocks to the rotor bearing and reduces over-winding and wear and tear. The rotor, which is partially supported on its periphery by the flat turbine, also has a larger diameter, resulting in a lower mass and therefore less wear.

R A D A R As the first watch brand to adopt a bespoke approach in partnership with the leading watch customiser, Zenith and Bamford Watch Department have come together to unveil a collaborative special edition available exclusively for Zenith boutiques - the Chronomaster El Primero Radar. The Chronomaster El Primero Radar, limited to just 50 pieces, draws inspiration from Zenith’s archive pieces, while looking steadfast to the future. During one of George Bamford’s first visits to the Zenith manufacture, he stumbled upon a pocket watch from 1916 that left a lasting impression on him. It featured striking red accents all over the dial, and would become the main source of inspiration for the Radar series. But rather than simply recreating the past, Bamford took this design cue to create a Chronomaster El Primero with a distinctly retro-futuristic aesthetic. The Radar reimagines the signature Zenith chronograph in a striking new manner, keeping the essentials while introducing new design codes. For one, the stainless steel case is given a matte finish all over, including the crown and pushers. The El Primero tricompax dial with oversized counters is revisited with a few unique twists, fashioned in a burnt brown hue that darkens towards the edge for a striking visual impact. Sharply contrasting around its periphery is a white tachymeter scale, with a radial design, featured

in numerous historical El Primero watches. Each of the three chronograph subdials is different, further highlighting the uniqueness of this collaborative series. On the left, the small seconds display features concentric circles that recall the design of some of George Bamford’s favourite vintage Zenith watches. The chronograph hour totalizer at 6 o’clock features a more traditional Chronomaster design, while the minutes counter at 3 o’clock befits the Radar name with its bold red register that glows in the dark with SuperLuminova for a “night vision” effect. As George Bamford puts it, “the little lines inside the subdial represent the negative of the star, the missing elements of a star, as if a star was sitting in the middle. This is something that really inspired me”. In this way, the subdial creates a pattern that subtly evokes the Zenith star. The finishing touch that truly sets the Chronomaster El Primero Radar apart and emphasizes the theme is the strap, made of rubber with a cordura effect on top. With a vintage vibe yet modern construction, the strap features double stitching with red threads, something of an obsession for George Bamford. Available from November exclusively at Zenith boutiques only, this limited edition series comes with complimentary first maintenance service.

DUBROVNIK

Thanks to its location on the Dalmatian coast, in the extreme south of Croatia, Dubrovnik enjoys beautiful Mediterranean sunshine for much of the year, making this very much a year-round destination. Renowned as one of the world’s most magnificent walled cities and fondly known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, the stunning 6th-century Old Town is truly a sight to behold. This famed city has received further interest following its use as the location of a number of scenes from the iconic Game of Thrones series, with much of the filming taking place in within this historic site. If you are a fan, there are numerous tours on offer to explore the incredible set locations used and equally if you are one of the few who haven’t subjected hours to the screen, it is a fantastic way to take in the Old Town and see some of the places you might otherwise pass by. Wander the bustling boutiques, markets and bars, before enjoying a hearty lunch of freshly caught seafood and a long walk along the iconic walls. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Town and its towering walls rise above the central 13th-century main street and there are plenty of passageways and staircases to explore. It’s a fantastic way to avoid feeling guilty for eating all the delicious seafood as there are some long and steep staircases to tackle should you so choose. It will also help you justify indulging in one of the many superb ice cream parlours dotted throughout the Old Town. Offering every flavour under the sun, it is the perfect way to refresh and cool down after your exploration. Outside the old walls, the cable car, which rides up to Mount Srđ, offers spectacular views of Dubrovnik and beyond, with the beautiful turquoise waters stretching out as far as the eye can see. If the view isn’t quite enough to quench your thirst, then you can head back down to the Old Town Harbour and jump on a boat to enjoy the water a little closer. A regular ferry will take you across to the supposedly cursed island of Lokrum - which also features on some Game of Thrones tours which is only open during the day, but affords a worthy trip to either explore or relax. Cursed or not, the stunning scenery of rocky beaches, lush greenery and the Adriatic Sea will make the visit one to remember. You can enjoy a long walk, take pictures of the peacocks - the island’s only inhabitants explore the Benedictine monastery or even the Game of Thrones centre - it’s well worth the day trip. The origins of the Croatian language and its classic literature can be traced back to Dubrovnik, and the city remains an epicentre of culture, art, music and science. It also makes the perfect starting point for exploring the rest of Croatia’s charming beaches and idyllic islands. adriaticluxuryhotels.com | croatia.hr

REVIEW

NORMA Situated in the culinary hotspot of Fitzrovia, Norma at number eight Charlotte Street brings flavours of Southern Italy and Northern Africa together in this cosy restaurant with an interior design inspired by the two regions. Mosaic adorned archways and glassware combine to create a vibrant yet intimate space complete with appropriately styled and comfortably plush booths. As engaging as this interior is however, you’re really interested in what comes out of the kitchen. Using fresh, seasonal and sustainable produce from Italy and Britain, the ever changing menu is designed to deliver stunning and often surprising flavour combinations in a way that shows off these excellent ingredients. The spectacular Crudo Bar sits at the heart of this restaurant, offering up seasonal raw seafood with a host of flavour profiles to be enjoyed as part of your meal or on its own with an equally delicious glass of wine from the extensive menu perhaps. Dishes such as the red prawns with rosemary and orange provide an intriguing flavour combination that you have likely never tried, but works beautifully with this visually striking option. Oysters, clams and hake all feature on the current menu with plenty of choice and regularly changing ingredients, you will never be stuck for something to enjoy. Try not to indulge too heavily on the raw selection though as there is more than enough on the rest of the a la carte menu to fill you up. Dishes are split between antipasti, pasta and large plates, but make sure you make the right choices dependent on how hungry you are. If ravenous, sample something from each and suffer the consequences of a very full

stomach after, otherwise, it would be wise to opt for an antipasti dish per person and either a large portion of pasta or large plate each. This will be more than sufficient to fill any hole you may have, certainly if you have your sights set on the inviting dessert menu. Antipasti includes the likes of a huge saffron arancini with wild mushrooms and Parmesan and rose veal with smoked eel mayonnaise and pickled carrots, while the star of the show - the pasta - is offered up in a manner of styles. The vegetation pasta alla Norma packs fresh flavours and classic Italian style while the truly delicious fresh strozzapreti with pork, anchovy and orange ragu with fresh mint is an absolute must. This unique flavour combination is exceptional and will leave you wondering why you never had orange and mint pasta before. If you choose to delve into the large plate selection, you can enjoy options such as roasted pumpkin stuffed with pumpkin and truffle risotto and toasted hazelnuts or the perfectly cooked and flavourful roasted North Sea hake with delica pumpkin, nduja and pickled tomatoes. Finding room for some dessert regardless of how long you need to recover from the rest of the meal - is a must. Homemade cannoli, plum and rose water cake with whipped mascarpone and brioche with salted caramel ice cream and bitter chocolate sauce are all just a precursor to the main attraction The chocolate cake to share. Chocolate, walnut and coffee cake with a marsala ice cream make for the perfect end to your Italian, African culinary journey.

and freshly made pizzas. The team makes the pizzas from handstretched dough made from a mixture of different Italian flours before proving it for 72 hours to maximise the flavour for a light and crisp crust, finished with classic toppings. Aiming to demonstrate that zero-waste can be luxurious, and creating something beautiful from ingredients which are usually thrown out, Ugly Butterfly represents the second generation in sustainable hospitality, and is a collaboration between awardwinning chef and restaurateur Adam Handling; Cadogan, the long-term family business that owns and manages part of Chelsea; Quintessentially Foundation - the award-winning and grant-giving arm of Quintessentially Group, providing funding and building awareness for UK registered charities; and The Felix Project, a London-based charity which collects surplus food from food industry suppliers, and delivers it to local charities and primary schools to help feed vulnerable people. The interiors have been created using up-cycled and re-utilised materials throughout. As well as providing a great place to eat and drink, Ugly

Ugly Butterfly

Butterfly will become a hub for business and community sustainability initiatives to be promoted and supported, with pioneers in sustainable food and drink, restaurants, fashion, technology, and art and craft, holding free conversations and creating experiences for dropin diners twice a week, on Wednesday and Sunday evenings at 7.00pm. The conversations will include talks from Mike Robinson, leading game chef, founder of The Woodsman, co-owner of the Harwood Arms and a wild food specialist, and Steve Bannatyne of The Wood Store, sellers of recycled and reclaimed wood and creators of most of the up-cycled handmade furniture at Ugly Butterfly. The menus include some daring dishes created by Adam Handling and his team at Adam Handling Chelsea (located at the Belmond Cadogan hotel on Sloane Street), such as deboned crispy fried chicken feet with caviar; Adam Handling’s iconic cheese doughnuts made with left-overs from the cheeseboard; banana bread and chicken butter; lobster shell soup; broccoli stalk Caesar salad; retired dairy cow tartare, crispy potato peelings; reformed doughnuts (made with leftover bread) and overripe fruit jam. 2.5% of the takings will be donated to The Felix Project to support their many projects fighting food waste, and two dishes on the menu will use Feast Fairly pullet eggs which are usually disposed of due to their small size. Funds from Feast Fairly egg sales are donated to The Felix Project. Adam Handling says: “This is such an exciting collaboration. Across my restaurants and bars we have a strong commitment to achieving zero waste and in setting up Ugly Butterfly, we can help to move the sustainability agenda forward even further by bringing together the pioneers in sustainable food and drink, fashion, business, furnishings, technology, arts and crafts and giving them a home for some really interesting discussions. We want everyone to be able to drop in for some really tasty food, and delicious Champagne, and to contribute to building awareness of how we can live our lives, every day, on a more sustainable basis.”

Return of a Star Cutting ties with the Celica name in the late eighties, the story of the Supra as we know it began. Maintaining its rear-wheel-drive layout and enjoying every increasing power during its generational progression, the Supra came into its own with its most famous - for now - fourth generation iteration. Claiming impressive performance figures as well as one of the best braking abilites of any production vehicle in the late nineties, the Supra became a firm favourite amongst the growing tuner crowd and eventually shot to fame in the first cinematic outing for the Fast and Furious franchise just a year before production would cease in 2002. Laying dormant ever since, the Supra name has finally returned to the streets with the stunning fifth generation offering. Managing to maintain the distinctive long nose, sleek body and short rear end while delivering a modern coupe aesthetic more than happy to show itself in even the most expensive of circles, this is a car that has a lot to live up to. In order to get the most out of this car and to reduce production time and cost, Toyota took the measured decision to collaborate with BMW who happen to already produce a coupe with sufficiently adequate performance figures of its own - the Z4.

Working off of the well established platform that has been used and improved on by BMW since 2015, the rate of development for the all-new GR (Gazoo Racing) Supra became somewhat swifter. Sticking with the front engine, rear-wheel-drive setup synonymous with the Supra name, the latest generation picks up right where its predecessor left and harnesses over 40 years of history. Performance focused with a healthy - some might say exaggerated - dose of sports coupe style, the GR Supra means business.

GR SUPRA

Boasting a silky smooth yet undeniably potent 3.0-litre twinscroll turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder engine, you immediately get a sense of this cars intentions. A more than adequate 335 hp and impressive 500 Nm of torque are enough to propel this 1,500 kg sportster to sixty-two in just over four seconds and hit a governed top speed of 155 mph. However, it's not just about the power with this car. Yes, history suggests that it was necessary for the new Supra to provide a platform with a little more under the bonnet than its GT86 sister, but if you look back, that same history indicates the need for a responsive, agile machine that is comfortable on any road, not just the drag strip. Fortunately, the collaboration idea seems to have paid off. Utilising the engineering expertise of two of the worlds biggest automotive names appears to have its benefits, delivering a package that few others are able to compete with. Despite its impressive performance, comfort has not been compromised, allowing you to enjoy this car as an everyday driver should you so wish - as long as you don't expect to carry any children...or dogs as you will struggle to squeeze them into the two-seat cabin. Equally, the interior space has been designed with driver and passenger in mind. This is not a stripped out track car - although they have produced one of those in the shape of their GT4 racer - instead, it comes with all the creature comforts you would expect from any ÂŁ54,000 car whether they are noticably from the BMW factory or not. Taking a host of features from the German stable, the GR Supra cabin is not only comfortable, but incredibly simple

to navigate whilst driving. As anyone who has driven a sports focused BMW will have experienced, they know how to make a transmission and thankfully this is another smart move in Toyota's collaboration that has paid in abundance. Undetectibly smooth through gradual acceleration with razor sharp response under a heavier right foot, the 8-speed sports automatic is the perfect accompaniment to this engine, working in harmony to produce the smoothest of rides under any given circumstance. This is one of those cars that has a lot to live up to, not just for the name, but for the long history before it, yet Toyota have not been phased in the slightest here. Every aspect of the latest edition is better than the previous and not simply from a technology advancement, timescale angle. The design and engineering behind this car has combined to create a truly spectacular machine for its price tag. If you find yourself in a position where rear seats are not a necessity, there will be few other options you could find that will compete on the same level as this. From an aesthetic stand point, they have hit the nail on the head. Continuation of styling cues toyota.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE from the previous generation while firmly shifting the design towards the future with aggressive detailing, exaggerated features and that distinctive double-bubble roof harking back to the 2000GT. A blend of sharp lines and curved features are perfectly balanced to complete this cars visual appeal and appealing it is. Small in posture but big in character, this is a car you will enjoy more and more as you experience it and will likely stick around longer than you might expect as you definitely won't want to give it up too quickly. Balance is the key word with this car. Not only has the production been balanced between two brands to ensure the product is the best it can be, but everything about the car itself is balanced. Poised to deliver the best driving experience regardless of the desire to go fast or otherwise, the GR Supra is ready to take you to the shops in style or make sure you look good while steaming around a track. It is ready for every eventuality, which, for a car of this calibre and style is very surprising indeed. Thanks to its design with the low, wide stance and sleek profile along with the relatively low weight it carries, this car's all-round performance is undeniably excellent. Corners are soaked up whether you're enjoying some long, winding country roads or test its abilities on some sharp, technical turns with the steering playing a major role. Incredibly responsive and offering desirable feel through the wheel, you know exactly what's going on and exactly how hard you can push this little coupe before it decides to bite back, but you'll have to be going some to get close to that.

When in the planning phase, bosses at Toyota were told four seats are better than two. They didn't listen. And thank goodness for that. The two seat coupe club is not a big one and certainly not with this kind of price tag to performance ratio, but the GR Supra is a very welcome addition indeed and one that will likely make others consider their future decisions when it comes to the question of four or two.

Breakneck Braking Very few cars make it on to the road in this state despite every entry into endurance racing requiring a production base from which to start. Ferrari, McLaren, even Audi each run endurance racers derived from production examples yet this is an altogether different beast. Developed specifically for their return to Le Mans, Ford are building just 1000 examples of this car for public purchase to adhere to regulations. As a result, the usual creature comforts you would expect from a ÂŁ400,000 plus supercar do not come as standard. Instead, what you get if you are lucky enough to have been allocated one of these rare cars is a road legal racing machine that packs a serious punch. Delivering 655 PS and equally impressive 750 Nm of torque, this car has more than enough resting over the rear axle to propel you down the road, but that's not this car's most impressive feature. When travelling at speed, you need to make sure you can turn and stop as necessary, and that's where this car come into its own. The sharp, angular lines are not just to make the GT look aggressive,

they have been specifically designed from the ground up to produce the most aerodynamic package possible. The result, downforce in abundance - especially when you slip it into 'Track' mode, immediately reducing the ride height by 50mm - and cornering to rival anything else on the road. What's more, the combination of enormous carbon ceramic brakes and that vast rear spoiler which acts as a wind brake deliver stopping power beyond imagination. You will want to make sure you're wearing that race harness and maybe even some goggles, just to make sure your eyes don't fall completely out of their sockets. This is a race car that the select few have the opportunity to own and drive on the road. Everything about it has been developed with racing in mind which is important to remember when you get in to the sparse cabin. You won't find anything else available from a factory that can offer you this kind of driving experience, so it's no surprise that the price tag puts most of its peers in the 'reasonably priced' category. But then again, who wants to settle for reasonable? ford.co.uk

FOCUS ST Performance technology from Ford is available to the general public and at a much more affordable price than their range topping GT. The latest allnew Focus ST brings tack-day performance along with the everyday usability customers have come to expect. Developed under the guidance of Ford Performance, this car has been built with driving in mind, and it shows. From the latest generation 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine with its all-aluminium construction - packing 280 PS and 420 Nm of torque - to the sculpted Recaro bucket seats aimed at keeping you safely in place whilst enjoying all the driving technology under the bonnet. Bringing selectable drive mode technology for the first time, the new Focus ST offers up adaptive characteristics to suit every scenario. Slippery/Wet, Normal, Sport and - for models equipped with the Performance Pack - Track Drive Modes adjust the electronic limited-slip differential, continuously controlled damping, electric power-assisted steering, throttle mapping, automatic transmission shift scheduling, electronic stability control, electronic sound enhancement and climate settings to provide you with the perfect setup in any given situation. This is a system that has been developed with performance in mind, not simply added to the car to keep up appearances. And once you get it on to the track that becomes ever more apparent. Delivering performance that rivals the current RS iteration, this is not a car to be scoffed at, especially when you consider the subÂŁ32,000 starting price tag.

V8 Powered Merc Import Left-Hand Drive 560 SL import from Mercedes-Benz packing a potent V8.

The 107 series Mercedes-Benz SL is a two-seater car with detachable roof and was the only roadster to be produced by the marque throughout its run from 1971 to 1989. Topping the series was the 560 SL which was reserved for the US, Japanese and Australian markets and produced from '86 to '89. Packing a huge 5.6-litre V8 engine, this car took the place of the otherwise vacant 500 SL which was unavailable to US customers. This example has made its way to the UK sporting its original left-hand-drive setup and finished in Nautic Blue coachwork with dark blue leather interior. Complete with matching dark blue soft top and hard top, you can make the most of this car whatever the weather. Mercedes' 560 SL featured a host of changes from the UK available 500 SL resulting from unique US regulations meaning extended bumpers and distinctive headlights as well as an automatic gearbox for this well maintained, very dry example. VANTAGE

Pocket Sized Punch Luxurious British marque Aston Martin have struggled for a number of years in an ever competitive market to make a substantial mark. Now, there's no denying that the brand has returned to its roots with a stunning collection of cars that finally deliver something a little different and the all-new Vantage offers up the epitome of this new and improved Aston Martin. Inspired by the racing arm and intent on delivering a driving experience like no other, the team had a serious job to do, but it appears to have paid off, in a big way. On first look, the design team have taken the iconic AM styling cues and thrust them firmly into today's aesthetic. The shaped

front grille synonymous with the brand has been adapted to created a vast gaping 'mouth' integrated with an equally apparent front splitter to help with the down-force which is contrasted with smooth, sleek lines running across the bonnet and beyond. Distinctive features have been introduced along the body with a sharply designed intake and beautifully shaped side window which raises towards the back to exaggerate the wide, powerful aesthetic of the rear arches. The rear end hasn't been forgotten either. A striking tail light setup follows the rear spoiler line mirroring that iconic front grille shape while the quad exhaust system and rear diffuser further illustrate this cars performance credentials.

And credentials it has, in buckets. Hidden under that sweeping bonnet sits the impressive 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 AMG unit from Mercedes, so there's no need to worry over reliability issues that have previously caused some concern and you certainly don't need to worry about performance problems. Set low and as far back in the chassis as possible to create a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and packing over 500hp with a whopping 685Nm of torque, you can be sure to leave the line in sufficiently swift fashion. Zero to sixty-two mph occurs in just 3.6 seconds - not the quickest in the sector, but you're not going to notice too much in real-world driving - and a top speed of 195 mph ensures that you can keep up with the pack. It's not all about speed though, and this car demonstrates that in a spectacular way. They have always been renowned for crafting beautiful cars, and this is no different, but now, the design and engineering teams have clearly worked very closely to create a car that takes both the form and function up to the next level. That front splitter and rear diffuser combination doesn't just look incredible, it serves important purpose in keeping this car on track. Delivering substantial down-force - something that is a rare occurrence on most production vehicles - the Vantage sticks to the ground like glue. Sharp, pointed and very deliberate cornering results utilising the car's incredibly low, wide platform and impressive chassis. Alongside this, the new electronic rear differential which is linked to the stability control system, continuously measures the car's behaviour and reacts accordingly giving you even more straight-line stability and cornering performance.

'Every aspect works in perfect harmony delivering a package that is hard to come by.'

ASTON MARTIN The Vantage is all about balance. From the fundamental base, the chassis, which comes in the form of the latest generation bonded aluminium structure first seen on the DB11 that has been adapted and improved to suit this car - with a total of 70 per cent new components - to the fine balance of performance and style. Every aspect works in perfect harmony delivering a package that is hard to come by. Granted, it doesn't pack the same level of performance as some of its competitors, but then, you would be hard pushed to find one that looks quite as good as this and provide such high levels of quality. One look at the interior and you could be mistaken into thinking you had just entered a concept model for a Mars explorer. Such an outlandish design would look out of place anywhere other than the interior of this car, but here, it is ideally suited to compliment that futuristic exterior aesthetic. A striking central console houses everything you need from the welcome return of Aston Martin's clean and simple gear selection and ignition button setup, to the conveniently positioned infotainment selection system with interactive touch pad and scroll wheel. An array of buttons and switchgear feature too, allowing you to easily control climate settings and heated seats - a winter must-have. Continue up and two prominent centralised air vents protrude from the dash providing a substantial whack of warm - or cold - air should you so choose while the

8" LCD screen rests within the plush console at a suitable viewing height for ease of use while driving. This design ethos isn't just reserved for the centre console however. Glance across to the right and your eyes set their sights on a uniquely shaped steering wheel which clearly takes a little inspiration from the motorsport world, but brings it into an equally luxurious, leather-bound setting complete with handy switchgear. As a result of the cars incredibly low stance, the driving position is always going to be equally low, but the comfortable, encompassing bucket seats are on hand to ensure you feel suitably secure whilst driving, or enjoy a ride in the passenger seat. Leather and luxuriously soft Alcantara combine to create a comfortable, high quality, inviting interior space that you would expect from any ÂŁ100k plus car while flashes of optional carbon fibre integrate

seamlessly to add an unmistakably sporty appeal to this otherwise cosy space. Despite being an outright two-seater, it is also functional as an everyday car thanks to the surprising 350-litre boot space. Shopping becomes a breeze and trips to the golf club don't have to be compromised. On top of that, the silky smooth 8-speed ZF transmission works to provide as efficient a ride as possible affording a combined consumption figure of 27.4 mpg, meaning you can enjoy the ride without having to constantly fill up relatively speaking. Of course, you will find yourself running at a considerable lower level when you inevitably press your right foot a little harder, but no one will judge you for that. The pleasure it brings and sound from that quad exhaust it delivers are undeniably worth it. Aston Martin have been through considerable turmoil, but this new Vantage is a clear demonstration that they are coming out the other side all the better for it. Improvements across the board have combined to create a true track oriented car for the road. Taking inspiration and knowledge from the race world and bringing it into production form, this is a car that packs a serious punch both in the performance department and the style. Whether you opt for one of the striking, unusal colour options available or not, heads will turn wherever you are thanks to both the unmistakably Aston Martin tone from the exhaust and those imposing, aggressive and outright stunning design features.

your The One Million Plus Club Maintaining its stable position, the market of £1million plus properties demonstrates defiance despite the economic turmoil, but can it continue? Time takes its toll and that’s something this market is running short of on top of everything else.

SAVILLS

Why London’s £1m+ housing market is standing firm with Liza-Jane Kelly, Residential Director at Savills Why London’s £1 million+ housing market is standing firm amid uncertainty Given the prevailing political and economic uncertainty surrounding Brexit, it might come as a surprise to hear that the market for homes worth £1 million+ in prime central London is proving remarkably robust. According to recent data from LonRes, transactions in September were up 31 per cent on the same time last year and Q3 2019 was nine per cent up on Q3 2018. What we’re seeing is London’s busy domestic market at work. For Londoners and buyers from overseas who have made their lives here, that life goes on. People who need to move continue to do so - for schools, to trade up or perhaps find somewhere with more space for a growing family. The capital’s fundamental appeal as a place to live and work remains unchanged.

What has changed, however, is the day-to-day experience of buying and selling. Deals are taking more time. We are seeing longer chains that are harder to keep together particularly when there are many agents involved. In the past, people had the confidence to sell their home then wait, placing themselves in a good position to buy when the right house or apartment came along. Now buyers are more reluctant to commit and tend to delay putting their home on the market until they have seen somewhere they love, resulting in often frustrating chains. This calls for patience, goodwill and, above all, communication on all sides. So, my advice to anyone thinking of moving? Don’t be put off by the uncertainty but do choose an experienced agent who can advise you every step of the way.
