Time for the Extraordinary Renowned for their excellence in the motoring industry, Bentley have broadened their horizons over recent years to incorporate a whole host of other products ranging from watches courtesy of Breitling to in-house items such as limited edition, handmade glasses and fragrances featuring partnerships with Lalique. Now with their latest Continental GT release, there is a coincidental unveiling of not one, but two additional products that are growing to be synonymous with the brand. The Bentley GT “Dark Sapphire” Edition watch from Breitling brings with it a number of features specifically designed to support and enhance the new grand tourer and a new take on the Momentum scent from Bentley Fragrances delivers a unique take on the Bentley man. Each exclusive in their own right, these products offer the epitome in luxury aesthetic and combine to create the ultimate Bentley experience.

The all-new Bentley Continental GT redefines the luxury Grand Tourer. Designed, engineered and handcrafted in Britain, the third generation Continental GT delivers unrivaled refinement and seamless integration of natural materials with cutting edge technology. A stunning new, innovative interior brings a revolutionary rotating display and digital instrument panel while an all-new, enhanced version of their already impressive 6.0-litre engine resides under the extended bonnet. Paired with a dual-clutch eightspeed transmission for the first time, you can expect even smoother and more responsive gear changes. Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors said: “Bentley has been at the forefront of luxury Grand Touring for nearly one hundred years. The new, third-generation Continental GT is the pinnacle of our design and engineering achievements and marks the next step in Bentley’s journey.”

bentleymotors.com

UNLimited Time Supporting the release of the luxury British marque’s new Continental GT, Breitling for Bentley have launched the Bentley GT “Dark Sapphire” Edition watch. Limited to just 500 pieces, the watch features an ultra-light ‘chassis’ crafted from the impressive Breitlight material - resistance to scratching, traction and corrosion, along with non-magnetic, thermal stability and non-allergenic properties - which is enhanced by the addition of “Dark Sapphire” tints offering a blue hue to the mix. Its subtly black streaked effect takes on a bluish shimmer echoing the colour of the Bentley “Dark Sapphire” livery and the dial features a diamond motif picking up the pattern appearing in several areas of the Continental GT interior and dashboard controls. The exclusive ‘engine’ comes in the shape of a Manufacture Breitling B06 calibre equipped with a 30-second chronograph. The movement, entirely developed and produced in the Breitling Chronométrie workshops is distinguished by this ingenious 30-second chronograph system which is inspired by a 1926 Breitling patent. A central hand

completes a full sweep of the dial in half a minute, thus ensuring extremely accurate readings of times to the nearest eight of a second. This world-exclusive feature is highlighted on the black dial thanks to the blue “30-second chronograph” inscription and measuring scale which picks up the subtle shades of the case. The Bentley GT “Dark Sapphire” Edition is fitted with a rubber strap which has been specially created for this model and bears the same diamond motif as the dial. A true grand tourer for your wrist, this limited edition features a 70-hour power reserve and is waterproof to 100m should you wish to relax in the pool after a hard days driving. breitling.com

This is the next step in the brands history, bringing a considerably sleeker profile to the table and illustrating their continued excellence in precision engineering. To allow for such a bold reimagining of the Continental GT, the aluminium skin has been crafted using Super Formed technology - a precision technique working with aluminium heated to 500°C which has previously been used on Bentley fenders. Using this method allowed designers to invoke more complex, sharply defined body lines and a deeper, sculpted haunch muscle. It also means that the Continental GT is the first production car ever to have an entire body side made from the Super Formed process. The cars profile is longer and lower due in part to the positioning of the front wheels - 135mm further forward - which in turn allows the bonnet to be extended and the nose to be lowered. However, the key signature lines of the original Continental still dominate, with the ‘power line’ travelling from the headlights to the muscular rear haunch. The rear of the car is a radical styling departure, with the taillights now shaped into ellipses, reflecting the silhouette of the exhaust tail pipes below them. This lighting uses the latest LED Matrix technology, but it is the design of the head lamps that truly sets them apart. Inspired by the finest cue-crystal glasses, the internal surfaces are transparent with sharply defined edges that catch the light like a diamond. The result is similar to that of an illuminated gem and is only heightened when the optional welcome sequence gradually bentleymotors.com

illuminates the headlights as you approach. The taillights also feature this cut-crystal effect adding to the three-dimensional depth of the optics. A new, technically advanced, adaptive chassis has been introduced, using Bentley’s intelligent 48-volt Dynamic Ride System. This ensures a responsive ride with exceptional handling and refinement in all road conditions. The new system controls ride comfort and lateral roll, cushioning passengers from excessive movement as well as making the car feel effortlessly precise. Performance has never been an issue as far as Bentley have been concerned, but this brings with it all new meanings of excellence. Boasting a 0-62mph time of just 3.7 seconds and top speed of 207mph thanks to the incredible 635PS and staggering 900Nm of torque. And of course, it will be all that smoother too thanks to the new dual clutch. The Continental GT has been Bentley’s flagship model since it launched back in 2003, so you could argue that this has been 14 years in the making. However, with such dramatic styling changes and incredible technological advances in both the manufacturing process and the finished product, you could argue that this is in fact a whole new beast taking over the reins. A new sleeker aesthetic for the company will undoubtedly draw even more potential customers in and once they set eyes on the sumptuous, handcrafted interior that mirrors the incredible external visual, they won’t be able to say no.

Launched in 2013, the Bentley Fragrances catalogue now boasts four collections, each with a range of products from Eau de Toilette to Eau de Perfum and even a small selection for the hair and body. The latest addition to join the line up falls under the ‘Momentum’ collection and will be exclusively available at Harrods. Bentley Momentum Night Edition falls beautifully in line with the release of the new Continental GT, pushing the boundaries of luxury. Presented in a striking bottle with matte black paneling adorning the front and rear leaving the bevelled sides transparent, it is contrasted by a perfectly round cap entirely embossed with the instantly recognisable Bentley signature knurling. This is a sophisticated aesthetic for a sophisticated scent. Crafted by Mylène Alran using the most luxurious natural materials, this fragrance meets the same exacting standards expected from every car to leave the Bentley factory. Aiming to bring to life the charm and mystery of nightlife in the city, this is an intense fragrance combining and contrasting bracing spices with nocturnal woods. In the top notes, radiant bergamot, cool nutmeg and gin‐fresh pink pepper sparkle like city lights against a dusky sky. As the scent moves into the heart of the night, an elegant violet absolute brushes its powdery notes against a sleek accord of flinty vetiver and polished cedarwood. In the drydown, the scent dives deep into the mystery of rich, creamy sandalwood and dark patchouli, boosted by the earthy facets of a rare, exotic ingredient: papyrus. Although not reserved for Bentley drivers alone, this is a fragrance suited to the sophisticated and successful lifestyle that the brand eludes to. A prestigious scent for the urban trendsetter, this is the perfect fragrance for those exclusive bars and VIP clubs. Reflecting the prestige of this Harrods exclusive, Bentley Momentum Night Edition is presented in a deluxe black and silver box, with the iconic “Flying B” Bentley logo and name hot‐stamped in silver. Excalibur Aventador S The best of Italian aesthetic flair and performance face the ultimate in Swiss precision and mechanical instruments.

This junction was clearly inevitable. While motorsports and watchmaking have enjoyed great partnerships through various afinities, the story of Roger Dubuis and Lamborghini Squadra Corse is a case of irresistible mutual attraction. Both borne from a shared focus on aesthetics in their respective R&D driven approaches, each has become synonymous with innovation and performance. Roger Dubuis’ particularly strong recent interest in other types of industry flows from a will to deliver timepieces endowed with elements that others do not or cannot provide, strengthened by their ability to ignore any limits. Determined to create an ultimate experience like sliding into a Lamborghini, the teams have shared their respective design skills. The resulting two models combine noble and high-tech materials while ensuring top-rate performance. These include multi-layered carbon and C-SMC carbon based on the same technology as that used for Lamborghini cars, a world premiere use of this material featured in the orange-liveried 8-piece limited edition. Living up to the “Powered by Raging Mechanics” signature, the Excalibur Aventador S is indeed driven by an outstanding ‘engine’ in the shape of the specially developed Duotor calibre. This Lamborghini-exclusive Roger Dubuis movement embodies an ongoing evolution of the Maison’s expertise, entirely reinterpreted in light of this automobile alliance. Inspired by power in keeping with the proud Lamborghini tradition, and fuelled by the lair for technological complexity shared by the Geneva-based Manufacture.

The Duotor calibre is notably distinguished by engine strut bars revisiting the iconic Roger Dubuis Astral Skeleton principle, striking an astounding contrast with the rest of the movement, as if the engine ‘hood’ were transparent. Recalling the performanceenhancing longitudinal placement of Lamborghini engines tailored to the design of the sleek, streamlined cars, the double balance wheel is inclined at a similar angle, supported and highlighted by holders shaped like triangular wheel suspension assemblies. The Excalibur Aventador S is available in two interpretations epitomising the “Dare to be rare” concept through respective 88 and 8-piece limited editions. The former bears the inimitable Lamborghini “Giallo Orion” yellow paint code picked up in a number of design features, while the even more exclusive series comes in striking “Arancio Argos”.

NEW CAVENDISH JEWELLERS

Your New Timepiece with Jitesh Shah

Jitesh Shah is a Director at New Cavendish Jewellers, Marylebone High Street’s exclusive destination for Haute Horology & Exquisite Jewellery. Official agents for many of the world’s leading watch Brands alongside independently curated jewellery focusing on Diamonds & precious stones. Established in 1982, New Cavendish Jewellers is one of Marylebone’s oldest & still independent retailers.

Later this month, the updated Ingenieur series from IWC will be released. This is a good example of a collection having to be revamped to remain in vogue with a new generation of fans. The magnificent Pilot’s watches have undergone a similar level of change and revision in their time. I note these models and IWC as a brand because their collections tend to be updated but no entire family appears to ever be entirely discontinued and if reintroduced, like this years Da Vinci line, there is a blueprint from the past to build on before adding bells and whistles. This endurance is down to the fact that despite updates, the core collection doesn’t deviate too much and it appears they have a clear idea of their core demographic. One of our personal favourites that really lay testament to this is the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar. Initially developed in the Da Vinci case, the Portugieser variant traces its roots back to 1985. The creator of this particular movement is Kurt Klaus, a watchmaker who continues to work with IWC to this day. At the time, the radical element of this creation was that the entire movement was set by just the crown. There were, and continue to be, other perpetual calendars available but virtually none that can be set without fidgety pushers and correctors, that can also cause further issues of malfunction and a lack of moisture and dust resistance. Consider for a second the task at hand. There were no CAD systems or computer generated simulations as to how the calendar would work after a period of five to ten years. The watchmaker had a set idea of the calendar including leap years but then had to create a movement that would denote the day, month and date both simultaneously and accurately for a long period of time without error. Kurt Klaus then went a step further and introduced the four digit year display for the first time. The

thought to attempt such a project is difficult enough but to then execute it is an incredible feat of engineering. If you have ever seen the inner workings of a mechanical watch, you will appreciate this is the one of the reasons such timepieces continue to charm and inspire consumers; all the parts come together as one to create something functional. The sheer

complexity of arranging these gears and levers to act correctly against one another to then indicate the calendar on the dial in the simplest way possible is simply genius. All the IWC watches have always carried an element of function about them, aesthetics were important but an impractical watch went against their grain. With this in mind, the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar also incorporated a clever additional feature.

New Cavendish Jewellers, 2 Marylebone High Street, London, W1U 4NF

WATCHES A typical self winding watch has some level of power reserve once it is being worn, usually up to forty eight hours. Albert Pellaton was the Technical Director of IWC’s during the 1960’s. He also happened to be a chief mind behind the creation of the anti-magnetic Ingeneiur model as a tool for his engineers who found their mechanical watches affected by the machinery they worked with. Another of his creations was the Pellaton Winding System that allowed a timepiece to offer up to eight days worth of power reserve! This facility is visible in many of their contemporary models and perhaps something fans of the brand now take for granted. Despite the Portugieser not requiring any external correctors, if it were to stop and then had to be reset after a week, the user would still need to go through day by day. This week worth of power reserve comes into its own here as not only does this allow the owner to switch between watches without having to reset the calendar, the power reserve is built up automatically so the reserve will naturally build with wear as opposed to having to wind it manually (though it can be wound if required). There is actually almost eight days worth of power reserve possible but because the time keeping cannot be guaranteed for the final day, a ratchet is in place to only allow seven days. The moon-phase indicator is the cherry on tho proverbial

cake. The disc is not just accurate to monthly cycles and again in tandem with the rest of the calendar features but allowing for the Earth’s natural wobble, the moon-phase will eventually become inaccurate by a day in 577 years of continual wear. In this time it will be routinely serviced and attended to essentially ensuring this calendar will never be inaccurate. As centuries pass and some minor rectification is needed to keep the calendar in correct motion, IWC actually supply a small kidney shaped watch part in a test tube with the box that will then be swapped over when the periodical service is required. This is not just clever forethought but another example of a creation purposefully made to last the ages. The current versions of this model are offered explicitly in 18ct White and Red Gold. Delivered in the typical Portugieser over sized case at 44.2mm, these dimensions offer hugely legible dials and easy manipulation of the crown. IWC are famed for their dial colours with the blue and grey versions particularly eye catching. This collection is certainly not made for the masses and does require an appreciation of the masterful complexity at hand but those who have succumbed to their beauty will no doubt attest to also buying into the legacy of this wondrous creation. New Cavendish Jewellers is an official retail partner of IWC, we welcome you to discover the Portugieser Perpetual Calendars and the entire IWC collection in-store.

the appearance of fine lines. This is especially good for the reduction of enlarged pores, acne and blemishes and it also stimulates cell renewal and ensures a radiant, fresh complexion. Step 3 is the BDR Re-charge N hydro serum maximum skin energiser. Ultrafine molecules of maximum concentration hyaluronic acid penetrate deep into the dermis and promote cell renewal. Collagen and elastin renewal are supported and skin is left looking smoother and much brighter. This serum is particularly good and is especially recommended for the delicate eye area. After this, for step 4, a BDR Re-lax 3 multiple level youth elixir serum goes on and this works on the deeper layers of the skin, and again stimulates collagen and elastin production. The tripeptides in this exceptional product are particularly effective for wrinkle reduction and the use of these serums are made more effective using microneedles which deliver essential hydration deep into the dermis and leave frown lines looking much smoother and skin looks radiant and much plumper. The next rejuvenation stage is a massage which works on every layer of the skin to promote lymphatic drainage and circulation. After massaging, the therapist puts a layer of cling film over your face before using red LED lights to boost circulation, reduce irritation and redness and stimulate collagen and elastin production whilst also supporting the natural production of vitamin D leaving your skin glowing and youthful.

Step 5 of this powerful treatment is the BDR Re-set 4D four dimensional, double duty age repair formula for eyes and lips. This cell re-juvenating fluid has a refreshing, light texture and supplies the delicate eye area with moisture and effectively reduces puffiness and dark circles and the appearance of fine lines. The sensitive lip area is softened and smoothed. Finally, step 6 involves the use of the BDR Re-vital PH (Pure Harmony) which is a multi-function, silky smooth fluid with micronized silver. This light, easily absorbed formula reduces oiliness and bacteria whilst promoting healthy skin function with improved texture and tone. There is no doubt that this results driven, revolutionary treatment creates dramatically visible results and leaves you with a more youthful, radiant and luminous complexion which makes you feel fabulous and truly impressed at the result. Fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed away leaving the skin much tighter and facial contours are far more even-toned. Although you will see immediate results from the first treatment, it is recommended that you have a course of 4 - 8 treatments for optimum results and home care using the BDR products during this time is essential.

28°-50° etter ane As the first of the 28 -50 brand, the Fetter Lane location is the epitome of the phrase ‘hidden gem’. Unassuming and quite frankly easy miss, you will have no idea that underneath the entrance is a secluded wine bar and kitchen offering a variety of fine grapes at very reasonable prices. Romantic and atmospheric, Fetter Lane has one of the most unique wine lists in London, featuring a range of over 30 traditional and eclectic red and white wines available by the glass, carafe or bottle at exceptional prices. The restaurant also boasts a specialist collector’s list’ which showcases fine wines from private collections, offering guests a chance to discover more unusual and mature wines at their peak - some of which are rarely seen in other restaurants. Warm and rustic, the restaurant is surprisingly open once you make it down the stairs, and taking pride of place is a floor-toceiling wine cabinet display. Seating up to 50 people, the main dining room is filled with reclaimed timber tables and sea-green, soft leather upholstery effortlessly taking the setting from business lunches to intimate dinners with family and friends. A small bar area allows guests to stop by for a quick glass or nibble after work. The site also boasts an intimate mezzanine level which is split into two areas: The Library which seats six people around a circular table and The Case, which seats up to 12 people, suitably named after the number of wine bottles a case can hold. The menu has been created by Head Chef Julien Baris, together

with Aggi Sverrisson, and offers simple, seasonal, modern European food that compliments the many bottles of wine. Ingredients are sourced both locally and from around Europe, with menus changing frequently to reflect seasonality and produce at its best. Sample dishes include Salmon gravlax with mustard sauce, rye bread; and seabream ceviche, cucumber lemon and chive to start. Pork cutlet from Dingley Dell farm; Mackerel with cherry tomatoes, black olives, cannellini beans and basil; and 28 day aged Aberdeen Angus steak for main course along with sides such as triple cooked chips and Roast broccoli and olives. And finally, English strawberries, berries, frozen yoghurt; and Poached Pear tart fine, apricot and amaretto sorbet to finish. There is also an impressive cheese plate on offer with chesses from England, France and Scotland for those looking to end on a slightly more savoury note. At the bar, and the perfect accompaniment to a glass of wine, the all-day bar menu offers a variety of generous sharing boards filled with tempting charcuterie, cheeses and small bites, such as pork belly with soy and honey glaze; and mini chorizo. With quality at the forefront, the menu is surprisingly reasonably and guests can also choose from a set lunch menu with two courses priced at £18.00 or three courses priced at £21.00, available for groups of up to six people. Like its siblings, on Maddox Street and Marylebone Lane, 28 -50 Fetter Lane offers an exciting wine tasting programme, workshops and themed dinners throughout the year.

Calabrese’s Cocktails with Gerry Calabrese

East End drinks maverick Gerry Calabrese has built a reputation as one of the greats in London’s bar scene. From bartending in top London venues such as Lab, Dust, and Sex in the City he went on in 2008 to launch his own multi award winning East End bar, The Hoxton Pony followed by most recently in 2016 Wringer and Mangle situated in the neighbouring London Fields, to much critical acclaim. His pedigree has also seen him act as a drinks columnist as well as consultant and event planner for numerous high profile private clients including iles Deacon, warovs i, eroni Nastro urro, Channel , and ulberry.

I would be foolish to think of Mezcal as the forgotten spirit, with bars such as Cartel in Battersea, La Perla at Caf Pacifico in Covent garden and of course the late, great Dick Bradsells’ famous bartender haunt, The Pink Chihuahua located underneath El Camion in Soho all championing the delicious Mexical export for quite some time. However, over the years it hasn’t always been super accessible to all bar goers, bar some questionable, dusty bottles containing a “tequila worm” (actually, it’s a moth larvae, way cooler). As such, trying to encourage guests to your bars to try and sip something that is widely believed to be a cheaper expression of tequila when most patrons don’t even like the idea of tequila, quite a task. Well, October the 21st is National Mezcal Day, so I would like to encourage everyone to take a chance they won’t regret and go for the healthiest, most progressive distillation you can imagine; Mezcal. ou may have heard the phrase “All Tequila is Mezcal but not all Mezcal is Tequila” and while this may insinuate that Tequila is the Cognac or Champagne of Tequila, this is rarely the case. For example, there’s this thing that plagues the tequila world called “mixto” tequila, which basically means that this particular tequila only has to contain 51% agave (the plant that all tequila and hence mezcal is made from) whereas mezcal can only be a minimum of 80% agave. Mezcal can also be made from a variety of agave plants, unlike Tequila which is restricted to the Blue Weber. The main advantage though, is that Mezcal can be made from agave grown almost anywhere whereas Tequila has to be made in and around Jalisco, bar a few exceptions. This means that distilleries can utilise the beautiful, varied terrior that Mexico offers which opens the spirit up to almost unlimited flavour profiles. ou could have an earthy Mezcal, a smoky Mezcal, a sweet Mezcal or a blend of all the flavours of Mezcal.

Mezcal, although by no means is a forgotten spirit, it is as diverse and raw as they come, with cheap, easy to drink options all the way up to wise investments. Take the time this month to venture out and sample the original golden nectar, find your favourite expression and go with it. If you’re looking for a cocktail to ease you in, you can go for the sophisticated starter drink, the Mezcal Margarita, opt for a Mezcal Negroni to show you know your drinks or you could go for one of my personal favourites, the Mezcal Michelada. 50ml Mezcal (I’ve gone with Del Maguey Vida for it’s light smokiness) | 100ml Sangrita* | 100ml Mexican Lager | Top with Crushed Ice and Garnish with Pomegranate seeds. *Sangrita meaning “little blood” is a traditional, non-alcoholic accompaniment to tequila blanco, which in my opinion is the best way to enjoy a good sipping tequila/me cal. Though there is no definitive recipe in print, here is a simple, traditional recipe. To make: 40ml Fresh Orange Juice | 30-40ml Fresh Lime Juice | 20ml Pomegranate Juice | 5-10ml Hot Sauce | Pinch of salt and pepper

P.F. Chang’s Hot from the US, P.F. Chang’s has hit Leicester Square and is offering up a whole host of Asian cuisine in the heart of the West End. An American institution for over 20 years, with 204 locations in the US and 56 in international markets including Mexico, the UAE and South America, P.F. Chang’s has finally made it across the Atlantic and even has a chef from Nobu looking after the menu. Relatively small in comparison to its other locations, the restaurant seats 138 and much of the menu has been based around small plates designed for sharing so you can get a taste of pretty much everything. Signature dishes, that those who have eaten in other branches will recognise, include Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Dynamite Shrimp. Incredibly moreish and a great way to start the meal, these are a good indicator of what’s to come. Other must-tries include Mongolian Beef, a soy glazed flank steak wok seared with spring onions and garlic; Orange Peel Lamb Chop; Fish and Lotus ‘Chips’ - black cod, tossed with spring onion, ginger, fermented black bean and a side of lotus chips; Singapore Street Noodles; and Salt and Pepper Prawns. As well as generous portions, the menu also showcase the farms where the meat was sourced for their ‘farm to wok’ concept, and all their all dumplings, wontons and egg rolls are made in-house. The London restaurant also boasts P.F. Chang’s first breakfast and brunch menu. Described as brunch with an Asian ick’, dishes include Everything BA ’ - Thinly sliced smoked salmon and hardboiled egg perched in a doughy honey lotus bun with basil horseradish cream and their version of Lobster Benedict is a toasted muffin topped with a herb lobster mix, poached egg and house-made hollandaise. Downstairs an on-site bakery whips up desserts, while the bar is run by Fluid Movement, the London-based company behind the Worship Street Whistling Shop. Cocktails to try include the Fizu - sparkling sake, cucumber and lemon oil; and the Witchcraig Sour - Bourbon, kimchee distillate, lemon and clay. There’s also a large list of wines and beers.

ROKA Mayfair Following the huge success of Zuma London, Rainer Becker took advantage of the growing popularity of robatayaki cuisine and opened R A Charlotte Street in 2004 working with Group Executive Chef, Hamish Brown to create an authentic but contemporary Japanese menu. Now having expanded with five locations in London, the group has firmly established their presence on the capital’s food scene. With the main focus around the Robata grill, dishes are creative and well executed with flavour and quality being key. Located amid diners, mastering the art of theatre dining, the grill forms an integral design element of all the restaurants and is lovingly referred to as the heart of R A. As one of the more recent openings in London, but also actually the smallest, R A Mayfair enjoys a prime position on North Audley Street. Boasting an elite clientele, you can expect a vibrant atmosphere whatever evening you choose to visit. As you would expect from an award-winning restaurant, service is impeccable and very friendly guiding you through the extensive menu to create a well-balanced meal packed with intense and delectable flavours. We highly recommend the premium tasting menu which acts as a great introduction to the wide world of R A. Starting with the wonderfully refreshing kampachi sashimi no salada - yellowtail sashimi with yuzu - tru e dressing it’s a fantastic way to try some of R A’s most renowned dishes with little effort allowing you to

sit back and soak up the atmosphere while the chefs get to work in the central open kitchen. Priced at £88.00 per person for a minimum of two people, the menu is also incredibly good value with premium, well-portioned dishes including seared sea bass with smoked soy; king crab with daikon and caviar; seared beef striploin with black tru e dressing fresh sashimi on ice scallop skewers with wasabi and shiso; lamb cutlets with korean spices; and wagyu sushi, oscietra caviar. Guests will also have the choice between melt-in-your-mouth black cod marinated in yuzu miso or 100g pure breed Japanese wagyu A4 with eryngii mushrooms and wasabi ponzu sauce ( 20 supplement per person). While each dish is beautifully presented, the dessert platter is something else acting almost like a boat of fresh fruit on ice with a range of chocolate tru es, palette cleansing sorbets, cheesecake and a dark chocolate and green tea pudding. Also on-hand is a well-chosen, extensive wine list with many available by the glass as well as numerous cocktails and of course, a large sake offering. R A Mayfair has always been home to a varied selection of sake, and the team are passionate about experimenting with an array of sakes and seasonal flavours. With limited availability, a sake dinner will be hosted by Laura Blanchett, R A’s Head Sommelier & Wine Buyer, on 16th October with one of the most sought-after sake brands in the world - the renowned Dassai Brewery. Dassai sake is created using a combination of traditional techniques and cutting-edge technology, and places great emphasis on the quality of their products. R A Mayfair will also be launching its own Whisky Journey- the ultimate experience for whisky connoisseurs. With the discerning clientele in mind, R A has carefully curated a menu of the most premium and exceptional Japanese whiskies and guests will now be able to purchase their own bottle of these limited import, Japanese bottles to be kept behind the bar to enjoy upon each returning visit to the restaurant. Each bottle purchased is accompanied by a hand-embossed leather label and personalised metal name tag. The unique bottles range from the Hakushu Sherry Cask, 2012; which is a limited-edition release to the ultra-premium Yazamaki Mizunara Cask, 1979; which has been matured for 29 years in rare Japanese Mizunara oak cask, and is one of just 294 bottles. R A Mayfair’s Whisky Boxes will be available to purchase at the R A Bar. Prices start at 2 5. SUSHI SAMBA Set high in the city on the 38th and 39th floors of 110 Bishopsgate, a stone’s throw from Liverpool Street Station, SUSHI SAMBA offers diners a unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine. Accessed via two panoramic glass elevators that literally whisk you high above the ground in mere seconds, the first thing you will notice about SUSHI SAMBA is the design. Creating an almost indoor-outdoor perspective the magnificent west terrace bar is home to a huge structural orange tree which dominates the area and reinforces the earth-to-sky motif while being an artwork in itself, reminiscent of great 20th century art. The main restaurant overlooks views of London thanks to three sides of floor-to ceiling glass windows and an outside terrace area. It’s worth noting too, that this is one of the highest outdoor dining terraces in Europe. In the evening, the restaurant’s grid of lights hanging from the open bamboo structured ceiling dance against the vast London skyline, twinkling as if they are stars in the distant night sky - a very clever design technique indeed. This autumn, alongside their a la carte menu, SUSHI SAMBA have launched new Into The Amazon dishes following their Executive Chef Cl udio Cardoso visiting the Peruvian Amazon rainforest earlier this year in partnership with charity Cool Earth. The exciting tasting menu blends the classic flavours of SUSHI SAMBA’s renowned cuisine with ingredients that are grown and harvested in the Peruvian rainforest by the Ash ninka. Working together, the Ash ninka supplies SUSHI SAMBA with the ingredients needed to create the dishes and take advantage of the continued revenue stream to support their work. Dishes include the Yuca Plantation consisting of yuca, ashaninka seasme, sweet potato, smoke emulsion - a great dish for vegans, the presentation and intricacy of design allows for a level of playfulness where

diners can ‘mix’ the sweet potato, sesame and emulsion together to create a smoky, sweet paste. And the Corn Seviche white cusco corn, dried white and mixed cancha corn, lime, red onion which again is highly unusual but a great dish for vegetarians and vegans making the menu accessible to many people. Other highlights on the menu include green bean tempura with black tru e aioli, the black tru e aioli makes this simple dish very moreish; crispy Yellowtail taquitos; nigiri selection and some fantastic sushi; and Moqueca Mista shrimp, squid, sea bass, mussels, clams, coconut milk, dendê oil, chimichurri rice - a generously large portion of curry that will happily satisfy everyone. To finish guests will enjoy chocolate banana cake with maple butter, plantain chip and vanilla rum ice cream. One of SUSHI SAMBA’s signature desserts, it has been served in their restaurants for the past 15 years, we are told. Omakase menu - £82 per person - available from 11.30am - 7.30pm. Reservations accepted up to 2 months in advance.

Beginning with a crisp glass of Laurent Perrier, take the time to marvel at the history of the decadent room while a pianist sets the scene playing beautiful, yet recognisable songs from leading modern movies such as La La Land, Titanic, and Aladdin. Located in the heart of London and previously the haunt of famed patrons, from royalty and celebrity, to the creative and the notorious, Café Royal has been an established and iconic landmark on the British capital’s social scene for a century and a half. Ushering in a new era for the luxury French brand, the DS 7 Crossback is set to push DS Automobiles to the next level on their journey to automotive excellence. Not only does this unveiling truly distinguish the brand once and for all from its Citroen sister company, but reveals to the world the first hint into what the brand will be bringing to the table in the future. There is good reason for the cars first public appearance at the inauguration of French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this year. With a rich history providing Presidential vehicles in France, the DS name has appeared on a number of official state cars, first chosen by

General de Gaulle, since 1968. This however heralds a new era in the brands history. As their first foray into the SU market, a very competitive luxury one at that, you may be pleasantly surprised by the results. There is no doubt that this will stand up against the much longer running competition on the style front. Whether you look at the interior or exterior of this car, you will find endless design facets that you just won’t find elsewhere. Continuing their avant-garde ways, DS have created a show stopper in every sense and with exclusive model options, you can push it as close to the boundaries as you like.

dsautomobiles.co.uk

DS 7 CROSSBACK

Sharp lines are abundant both internally and on the body creating a seamless transition from the outside in. Once inside the cabin, you are immediately confronted with a spectacularly stylish interface. A wide touch screen protrudes the otherwise simply styled dash featuring numerous controls and a surprisingly tactile selection wheel’. Every detail has been designed and manufactured to illustrate the brands styling ethos, but also to demonstrate the company’s desire to bring something completely new to the premium markets. The long standing German onslaught in such markets may have finally met its match - on the style front at least. Often considered as business vehicles, these premium cars have only recently shown any sign of style and design away from the drab, regimented way of the past, but this is an all together other level. Bringing aesthetic excitement to the fore and crafting an interior space that anyone would be happy to enjoy, this multi faceted interface utilises the best materials in spectacular fashion.

Its juxtaposing lines from the smooth, fine leather adorned sweeping dash to sharp lined buttons and switchgear and the standout gear lever protruding proudly from the centre console in all its angular glory. This is a car that takes considerable design cues from previous concepts from the brand, something that is often not seen in others. Countless spectacles are unveiled at car shows across the world with some of the most amazing design ideas you will ever see. However, these ideas are rarely transferred to any of the brands real-life production vehicles. This is again, a very different story. Hints of styling from the DS Divine concept including the impressive rear light clusters are sure signs that they are serious about making an impact and this is only reinforced when you see the headlight sequence’. Taking the iconic DS turning headlamps to a whole new level, the three diamond’ lamps rotate systematically, one after the other when required to reveal a sparkling, clear beam that of course, turns with the car.

dsautomobiles.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE Potential customers of the DS 7 Crossback are being given unprecedented early access to this new SU by DS. La Premi re’ Limited Edition DS Crossback will be first model delivered to customers from 2018 with an incredibly high-specification. What makes it so special, is that it will only be available to order in 2017, up until 31 December. La Premi re includes a whole host of features on top of its charismatic design, DS active LED vision, hypnotic 3D rear lights, and two 12-inch screens with innovative interface. An exclusive Nappa leather interior trim continues the French luxury knowhow with Art Rubis’ leather upholstery crafted with an obsession for detail and magnified interior roominess delivering a deep, welcoming environment. The refined watchstrap leather design of the seats is accentuated by pearl top-stitching, and stylish patina effect. Further, the exclusive B.R.M R180 timepiece displays the colours of the interior environment, while the dashboard and protective floor mats carry La Premi re identity. Subtly reflecting the Art Rubis shade on the vehicle’s exterior on the DS monogram badging at the front, the badges on the side and even on the sculpted 20-inch Paris’ gloss black nyx diamond-cut alloy wheels ties the two spaces together beautifully. Completed with a choice of three exterior colours; Cumulus Grey metallic, Pearl White or Perla Nera Black pearlescent.

Their innovative approach goes hand-in-hand with the cutting-edge features of this car, with the latest technologies that will subsequently be available across the range including DS connected pilot - paving the way for autonomous driving through Active Cruise Control and Lane eeping Assist DS night vision - considerably improving visibility for driving at night; and DS active scan suspension - the 21st century DS suspension system, which uses a camera to anticipate bumps and undulations in the road for optimising ride comfort. Furthermore, to ensure performance is also optimised, La Premi re is available with a choice of the two most powerful engines in the range; Diesel BlueHDi 180 S&S and Petrol THP 225 S S, both mated to the latest new-generation efficient automatic transmission with 8-speeds (EAT8). Boasting a zero to sixty-two time of 8.3 seconds and top speed of 141mph, there’s plenty of fun to be had once you’ve finished enjoying the interior. Priced at £42,650 on-the-road (both diesel and petrol), this is a statement of intent from DS Automobiles and one that should not be taken lightly...especially if you happen to be based in Germany. Could this be the return of French flair that has been missing for so long? You bet, and there will be plenty more coming down the car catwalk in the not so distant future. With big plans and an even bigger design portfolio, this new’ brand are already showing signs of a French revolution.

Mini British Icon 2000 Mini Classic Cooper Sport

OUT OF THIS WORLD

ne of the last classic Mini’s to roll off the Longbridge production line in 2000, this is one of the great British motoring icons. Presented in excellent condition and finished in British Racing Green, this car sports a silver and black interior complete with sunroof. With just 38,000 miles on the clock from new, full service history, original manuals and service book, you won’t find many examples of this calibre on offer. Especially when you consider its 90 BHP Stage three engine upgrade. The iconic Mini Cooper received a number of special editions throughout its lifespan, but one was created to celebrate the 41 years of production and this is one of those cars. The Mini Classic Cooper Sport 500 was a batch of just 500 vehicles numbered to signify the end of the line. Identifiable by a number of features including its silver roof and a dash plaque mounted within the glove box compartment. The plaque states “This Mini is one of the last 500 built to the original Sir Alec Issigonis design.” This pocket sized heavyweight certainly packs a punch and will deliver an all-British experience unlike any other.

The appeal of lateral living with Dan Carrington, Head of Earl’s Court and South Kensington Sales

Lateral apartments can be quite a rare find in the capital but recently their popularity amongst buyers has been increasing, with lateral flats in period properties being snapped up and new build developments also benefitting from this growth in interest. In Earl’s Court and South ensington, for example, around half of the buyers who register with us are looking for lateral space.

European buyers, in particular French and Italian’s, have a particular preference for these properties as it is more common in their native countries so they are used to this way of living. However, it is now becoming more popular with domestic buyers as well due to its convenience and accessibility. For many buyers it’s considered a more flexible and cohesive way of living compared to a traditional multi-level vertical home. Both period mansion blocks and new build apartments really

appeal with their predominantly open-plan living areas, sizable proportions and amenities, such as a concierge service which also provides an added layer of security. It’s a lifestyle that’s popular with a breadth of buyers - from young families who don’t have to worry about stair gates, to downsizers who like the lock-up-and-leave’ factor should they be frequent travellers or based overseas. Coleherne Court, in SW5, is a great example of this offering sizeable apartments, anywhere from 1,200 to 1,800 sq ft, with a lift and concierge service, whilst apartments in nearby Bramham Gardens offer substantial footprints, over 2,000 sq ft, at relatively good value for money. ver the last century, period properties in London have been divided up into apartments but they tend to be quite quirky in their configurations with split levels and mezzanine floors it can be quite rare to find truly lateral apartments. For this reason they can command a slight premium over other period conversions, but also sometimes over houses. With a lateral apartment you generally do not lose much of the gross internal space that in a multi-level home would be used for staircases.

We would anticipate that the demand for lateral apartments will continue to grow as the needs of buyers adapts and evolves. Lateral apartments will continue to offer the most suitable option for our numerous buyers currently showing a preference for open-plan, sociable living space.

Bramham Gardens, London, SW5 A four bedroom lateral apartment on the third floor of this portered mansion block. The property has been in the same ownership for many years so could benefit from some updating, but it benefits from a lift and access to communal gardens. Additionally the flat is located within close proximity of Earl’s Court tube station and the museums of Cromwell Road.

Here in the office, a lot of people ask me about supposed ‘golden rules’ they should abide by to get a quick sale. I often hear comments like ‘catch the property season’, ‘spend money to make money’ and ‘price high and accept low’. Unfortunately, achieving the optimum sale requires you to navigate highly changeable market conditions. The local market in E14 changes a lot year-on-year. As the chart above shows, the average price of properties on the market fluctuates a lot more than you might think. But unweighted overall average prices only tell part of the story - sales rates are the thermometer we use to measure the temperature of the market.

So what are active buyers looking for right now? We all enjoy some peace and quiet, no one is denying that. But the idea that property in close proximity to public transport hubs like train stations are harder to sell just isn't true. In fact, if you can hear the trains from your home, that means you are located nearby a station and properties close to a station are always in high demand.

There are no hard-and-fast rules to how to sell your property - the tone of the market is ever changing and its important you work with a good local agent with their finger on the pulse. If you have any more questions regarding property in E14 or are thinking of selling your home and buying a new one, don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Spencer Fortag

Over the last twelve months we've seen pretty strong performance in the local market. We wanted to see how different property types have performed, so we indexed the values at the start of the period. Property data updates quite slowly, so we've estimated the last 3 months.

This chart nicely reveals how sales levels have played out over the last seven months in our area. We're looking at a relatively tight area over relatively short periods of time, so you don't get the nice smooth patterns you'd see using annualised analyses or at higher levels of geography. The patterns however, are very revealing.

Commuting patterns are a significant barometer of the profile of people in a property market. For example in areas where most people travel to work by car, there tend to be more even property price distributions across the local market. On the other hand when people mostly travel by train or underground, there are big price hotspots around the stations.

Autumn in the Garden can smell gorgeous! with Kate Gould

Kate Gould is an award winning garden designer based in Hertfordshire. A regular exhibitor at the Chelsea Flower Show where she has been awarded four gold medals and three best in shows, Kate specialises in transforming gardens and outdoor spaces across London and the Home Counties. Visit kategouldgardens.com for more information. Nowadays we think of gardens not just in terms of how they look but also in terms of how they make us feel. Much of this feeling is derived from how the garden is laid out; does it make us happy, feel safe, do we want to linger or walk briskly through? If we linger, why do we do so? Is it because the garden has evoked a thought, a memory of times past and if so it is potentially a scent that has triggered it. Mown grass, summer rain and Roses all conjure up memories of lazy summer days when work is far from your mind and the summer seems endless. So many heady scents in the garden can take us back to happy times but there is no reason to plant solely with the past in mind. With so many fragrant plants to chose from there are many more new memories to make. Autumn is a time of warm spicy scents and unlike summer when the plants can flower and provide scent for a considerable

length of time, autumn scented plants are best appreciated in the moment as the weather can change things in an instant. Cercidiphyllum japonicum or more commonly Katsura is a feast for all of the senses, not just your nose. In the autumn its small round leaves which have been a lovely bright green all summer turn fiery red, orange and yellow and as they do so the air is filled with the scent of candifloss, so much so that you might think the local fair is in town. Once the leaves drop the scent dissipates quickly but for a short time the air is perfumed in the most unusual way. If you are lucky enough to have acidic ground you will probably benefit from a better autumn display but either way this tree will surprise with its magical fragrance. Abelia x grandi ora is a stalwart of the border with its evergreen

leaves and good nature. It is not as showy as other plants and you will be surprised that the sweet scent you can smell in summer and autumn comes from a plant that is more shrinking violet than show off. Part or full sun is the preferred requirements with some shelter from cold winds and heavy frosts which may scorch it. Gladiolus murielae have been called many things over the years but this is by far the easiest incarnation to pronounce. It is still a mouthful for what is a beautiful simple bulb that flowers right at the end of the season and on into October. The white six petal flowers have distinctive burgundy central markings and are highly

spicily scented. Free draining soil is a must and since they often flower themselves out re-planting in clumps of thirty or so in sun every couple of years will ensure that you always have these on hand when the garden is shutting down for the winter. If you only plant one plant this year make it a scented one. Flowers and scent combine to make a garden feel much more than just a collection of plants. A scented garden entices you outside and makes you linger which for gardeners who are often too busy working in their gardens to appreciate the results of their toil is a very good reason to stop, reflect and enjoy.
