Presage Arita

WATCHES

A celebration of Japanese artistry with new Arita Porcelain dials.

The village of Arita has remained the spiritual home of porcelain craftsmanship in Japan for over 400 years making it a fitting name for Seiko’s two new Presage timepieces. Bringing the ancient craft to life, the two automatic watches feature creamy white dials with a light blue hue inspired by the very earliest handpainted Arita designs. Collaborating with Master Craftsman, Hiroyuki Hashiguchi from a local manufacturer that has been producing porcelain since 1830, Seiko have meticulously designed every aspect of these watches to reflect the quality and craftsmanship for which the Presage name is renowned. Both featuring dual-curved sapphire crystal glass and exhibition caseback revealing the fine finishing of the movements, the two timepieces are powered by the high performance 6R series calibre with power reserve up to 70 hours and 10 bar water resistance. These new watches bring two of Japan’s renowned characteristics to the fore in spectacular, delicate fashion. Seiko Presage Arita Porcelain available now from £1,750. seikowatches.com

Tissot Gentleman Made of steel and solid 18ct pink gold, Tissot’s new Gentleman watch is available in four versions. This 40mm model shows Tissot’s devotion to fine workmanship in its watchmaking, with carefullywrought details. This versatile piece is equally suitable for wearing in a business environment, where conventional dress codes apply, as at the weekend, when it adapts easily to leisure activities. As part of the life of a modern, active man, the Tissot Gentleman becomes the perfect companion for every day, every occasion and every style. All the dials, whatever their colour, sport four noteworthy features. Firstly, a central marking in the shape of a circular sighting-line makes the dial easy to read and gives it a contemporary appearance. Secondly, the ring of applique hour markers, bevelled and buffed to a satin finish, and accentuated by faceted dauphine hands with white luminescent material and a date aperture at 3 o’clock, reveal the subtle elegance of the dial. The pink gold colour of this magnificent dial has precisely the same warmth as the 18 ct pink gold bezel. A very slender second hand enables the time to be read with great precision, to the second. Lastly, the “Powermatic 80 Silicon” indication is a reminder that the Gentleman has an exceptional calibre. tissotwatches.com

Cornes de vache In the vintage spirit of its Historiques collection, Vacheron Constantin is offering a reissue of this 1955 timepiece characterised by a blend of tradition and stylistic originality.

Vacheron Constantin wished to give tangible reality to its heritage by creating the Historiques Collection in 2006. Paying tribute to the archetypes that have marked the evolution of the Maison, the collection highlights the richness of the Manufacture’s technical and aesthetic heritage through contemporary reinterpretations of its emblematic models. Aimed above all at connoisseurs looking for pieces imbued with a vintage spirit, Historiques watches are exclusive by nature. Over the years, various models such as the famous American 1921 or the Ultra-fine 1955 have thus been given a new lease on life. The reference 6087 released in 1955 is one of these legendary watches which has now become another such piece through this spectacular reissue. It was the Manufacture’s first water-resistant chronograph and currently one of the pieces most coveted by collectors due to its very limited production. Equipped with manual-winding Calibre 492, the model offered a singular blend of technical rigour and creative audacity, particularly due to the evocative shape of its cow horn-shaped lugs. This duality between

the traditional architecture of a double-pusher chronograph featuring a dial bearing 30-minute and small seconds counters, together with its unconventional design, vividly expressed the stylistic originality based on subtly offbeat classicism that Vacheron Constantin has consistently cultivated throughout its history. Startimer Pilot Heritage Until now, Alpina’s aeronautically-inspired Startimer Pilot Heritage was a model particularly appreciated by keen travellers given its date and second time zone. Available in four versions in blue, grey and bronze, the piece is characterised by its unique case within the Startimer collection, a clever compromise between a cushion-shaped case and the famous “Bullhead” shape, a design that ranks among the finest motorsport pieces. The new Startimer Pilot Heritage Chronograph is returning to the essence of the sports watch invented by Alpina in 1883. The Startimer Pilot Heritage’s iconic case is solely fitted with a chronograph, the ultimate complication for all lovers of highprecision mechanical sports pieces. This bicompax chronograph measures short time intervals (30 minutes) thanks to the AL-727 calibre, which oscillates at a high frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vib/h) to ensure accuracy and shock-resistance, two cornerstones of the Alpina spirit. This new Startimer movement also offers a 55-hour power reserve: almost 45% more than its predecessor. Last but not least, in the purest historical chronograph tradition, it has a single pushpiece, just like the first Alpina sport chronographs almost a century ago. The new Startimer Pilot Heritage Chronograph is currently available in three versions: pale grey and anthracite for an understated modern spirit, blue and grey for a young and dynamic look, and blue and grey with red hands for a sporty, racing style. For collectors, this is the first single-pushpiece chronograph developed for the Startimer Pilot Heritage collection.

platinum in 2015 and 18K 4N pink gold in 2016, the Historiques Cornes de vache 1955 model now returns in a steel version emphasising its vintage inspiration. Water-resistant to 30 metres, the case has a more contemporary 38.5 mm diameter than the 35 mm of the original and naturally bears the distinctive lugs reminiscent of cow horns securing it to the strap. The crafting of the latter was entrusted to the Milanese luxury leather goods Maison, Serapian, founded in 1928, which shares the values of excellence cherished by Vacheron Constantin. A dark brown calf leather strap whose patina blends with the retro look of the model was chosen and Serapian also treated the second loop of the strap to the ‘attacco’ shape featured on its handbag handles - a signature nod to the famous Milanese leather goods manufacturer’s first collaboration with a watchmaker.

25th Anniversary Little Lange Little Lange 1 Moon Phase Limited Edition brings the fascination of the moon in a compact format. Continuing the 25th Anniversary celebrations, A. Lange & Söhne have unveiled the 9th installment in the shape of the Little Lange 1 Moon Phase. A hand-engraved lunar disc in white gold distinguishes the timepiece - presented on the occasion of the 25th birthday of the Lange 1 – from the standard version. It has a diameter of 36.8 millimetres and debuts in a limited edition of only 25 watches. As the ninth of a total of ten special models, the Little Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” recalls the spectacular presentation of the Lange 1 on 24 October 1994. The hallmarks of the two-toned anniversary edition include a white-gold case, an argenté-coloured dial in solid silver with blue-printed elements and blued steel hands. The colour concept is echoed in a characteristic movement detail. The blue-filled engraving of the balance cock in German silver features a reliefed depiction of the outsize date with the number “25” to match

the anniversary. The watch is worn on a dark blue alligator leather strap with a white-gold buckle. Like all manually wound timepieces of the Lange 1 family, the Little Lange 1 Moon Phase - first introduced in 2017 - has an off-centre dial with an outsize date and an up/down power-reserve indicator. The moonphase display is so precise that it only has to be corrected by one day every 122.6 years. As was already the case with the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary”, this special edition also features a hand-engraved lunar disc. Six stars and numerous little dots depict the starry sky and together with the golden moons form a three-dimensional heavenly canopy. The manufacture calibre L121.2, painstakingly finished, polished and decorated by hand, runs at a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour and thanks to its twin mainspring barrel only needs to be wound every three days.

Limited Edition Excellence Two new limited edition timepieces from Glashütte Original bring heritage and horological innovation together in truly stunning fashion.

Building on their considerable experience in combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative ideas, Glashütte Original release two stunning limited edition pieces. The first, with a nod to master watchmaker, Alfred Helwig’s 1920’s ‘weightless tourbillon’ is the Senator Chronometer

Tourbillon which delivers the invention in an advanced and highly sophisticated fashion limited to just 25 pieces. The Senator Chronometer Tourbillon shows that a tourbillon can still serve its original purpose. Second-stop mechanism, zero reset and minute detent ensure that the minute and second hands are synchronised, allowing the time to be set with great precision. The tourbillon’s rotating cage stops the moment the crown is pulled, and since the second hand is mounted on the cage, it also stops immediately. The watchmakers of the manufactory welcomed the challenge to find a way to stop the flying tourbillon “in full flight” and to combine it with the ability to set the time precisely. Their solution is as well engineered as it is innovative. Glashütte Original has unsurprisingly applied for two patents on this complex construction. A striking 42 mm platinum case presents the movement with highly refined decorative finishes. Beneath the off-centre, galvanic blue dial, fascinating views emerge from the combination of different levels and finishes. The dial and Flying Tourbillon rise like little towers over the upper and lower halves of the movement, resulting in a remarkable three-dimensional effect. The open design and a partially transparent sapphire crystal ring bearing the

seconds scale draw the viewer’s gaze into the depths of the watch. Various hand engravings and the classic Glashütte stripe finish round off the decoration. Sitting alongside in an equally beautiful manner is the also limited PanoInverse. Delivered once again in platinum and limited to just 25 pieces, this masterpiece presents a new interpretation of the idea of openly displaying the inner beauty of a timepiece and allows the balance bridge to seemingly “float” within the movement thanks to the artfully cut out base plate. Representing a new chapter in the success story of Glashütte Original’s PanoInverse line, the idea of presenting the balance bridge and the beating heart of the movement on the dial side celebrated its tenth anniversary just last year. Now the new limited edition presents once again the lavishly engraved “butterfly bridge” and its rhythmically pulsating screw balance at centre stage. To the viewer this artfully finished assembly seems to be floating on air. The characteristic form of the three-quarter plate, which is normally positioned on the back of the movement and visible only through the sapphire crystal case back, is also shown to great advantage in the limited edition of the PanoInverse. Filigree foliage flows over the rhodiumplated surface in fine lines and delicate branching - and not just on the upper side with the balance bridge, but on the back of the movement as well. This hand engraving is not simply another reference to Glashütte tradition - in the best sense of the word, the engraver’s handwriting also transforms each of the 25 watches into a unique work of art. But there is more to the story of the traditional methods and elements of this exclusive timepiece. The unconventional face of the watch is enhanced by screw-mounted gold chatons, ruby-red jewels, blued screws and gilt engravings. Skeletonizing is also evident in a prominent location, in the white gold hour and minute hands. Together, all these exquisite finishes and decorations give the PanoInverse Limited Edition an unmistakable face. glashuette-original.com

Yacht Timer Regatta Countdown This 1997 timepiece has a feature that counts down the time before a regatta begins. Frederique Constant is bringing back this rare nautical complication for avid sailing enthusiasts. The family-owned company was barely in business for a decade when it introduced its first regatta watch, which was part of its Yacht Master collection. The striking signature timepiece was a tribute to the love for sailing felt by Peter Stas, co-founder of Frederique Constant. Twenty-two years later and the Regatta makes a celebrated comeback. The new timepiece becomes part of the collection renamed Yacht Timer. The name could not be more fitting since the Regatta has a built-in timer that counts down the critical 10 minutes before sailing vessels set off for a race. Regatta racers can use the countdown to find the best position for dashing out front based on the wind and the other vessels - and without ever having to go over the imaginary starting line. This is a tactical and crucial maneuver demanding a precision instrument that can be read at a glance since they have to keep raising and lowering the sails to hold position as close to this line as possible. Frederique Constant has not designed a “nautically-inspired timepiece, but rather a genuine regatta watch that is operational in race conditions. The perfectly readable

original display from 1997 has been left unchanged. It features five dots at the top of the dial. Each dot represents one minute. The top button activates the first countdown that slowly turns all the points from white to blue, the contrasting color of the dial. Five minutes has passed when all five points are coloured. Then the second countdown starts to mark the last five minutes before the race begins. This time all five points gradually turn orange. When the final and fifth point is orange and the second hand strikes noon, the regatta is on! Everything on the Yacht Timer Regatta is designed for legibility. Since the only complication on the timepiece that should be the center of attention is the countdown timer, the engraved dial captures every reflection of light. The indexes are faceted to constantly display a shiny polished side that can be seen regardless of the sun’s angle. The hands and indexes are filled with luminescent material for overcast days. The sails of this latest collection have already been filled with four models. Two are finished in rose gold with a navy blue or silver-plated dial on an alligator strap. The third one features a blend of steel and rose gold on a two-tone strap. The fourth model in the collection has a sleekly modern grey color scheme with a steel case and silver-plated dial on a black alligator strap. Frederique Constant also includes a more rugged black rubber strap with all the models that can weather the ocean spray.

These models are as vibrant and stylish as they are ecologically sound. The Breitling Superocean Outerknown features a 44-millimeter stainless-steel case with a ratcheted unidirectional bezel, a feature breitling.com

that allows divers to time their dives accurately. It has a green dial and central hour, minute, and second hands that, like the numerals and indexes, are coated with Super-LumiNova ®, a luminescent material that makes them easily readable in any lighting conditions. It is presented on a khaki green Outerknown NATO strap and is powered by a Breitling Caliber 17, which offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The COSC-certified chronometer is water resistant to 100 bar/1000 meters, so it will more than meet the needs of any underwater adventurer. The watch’s screwed stainless-steel caseback is also engraved with the Outerknown logo. The New Outerknown NATO Strap Collection is fresh, vibrant, and colourful, and, while the straps were designed specifically for the new Superocean collection, they can be paired with any Breitling watch. A Head of the Rest Working in conjunction with Escorial Wool and Europe's premier felters, Lock & Co. Hatters have produced the ultimate luxury hat collection that is both natural and sustainable, whilst still providing their renowned luxurious wearing experience.

Historically the entire production of Escorial wool was reserved for the sole use of the Spanish Royal Family. In the fourteenth century Spanish royalty took possession of a unique flock of sheep originating from North Africa. This flock became known as the Escorial flock when the Escorial palace was built in the sixteenth century on the plains overlooking Madrid where the flock grazed. Today, descendants of the original flock are extremely rare and found only in Southern Australia and New Zealand. Here a small group of dedicated growers provide special care and preserve this endangered breed. Environmentally sustainable and ecologically friendly Escorial is the ultimate in luxury and performance.

Perfectly positioned - unsurprisingly - on Bloomsbury Street, this bright, fresh new restaurant brings a blend of Mediterranean and Japanese flavours delivered across a stunning menu of small plates. Sharing is order of the day if you want to make the most of your dining experience, with a host of dishes across numerous sections on the split menu. One side is dedicated to Mediterranean cuisine with sections such as carpaccio's, signature gyros, fish and seafood and from the grill offering up must try delights including the blackpepper-crusted beef with shaved truffle and Parmesan carpaccio; spicy chicken with chilli fries and tzatziki gyros; and 28-day-aged rib-eye steak with warm Gorgonzola butter. The other side brings Japanese cuisine to the table and provides the perfect pre-dinner snack in the shape of a delicious bowl full of lemon butter and chilli sea salt edamame. This side of the menu will cause you even more decision making issues than the other, with a flat taco selection which includes; tuna sashimi with truffle ponzu mayo; seared beef tenderloin with wasabi and shichimi mayo; and chargrilled avocado with lime sea salt and wasabi sour cream to choose from for starters. From there you can explore the Bincho grill dishes such as the spectacular sake-flamed black garlic king prawns with chilli and cumin or sashimi and salads including Yellowtail sashimi with spicy yuzu soy; and beef tartare with egg yolk and spicy shichimi soy. The stars of the show however feature in the 'Our Signatures' section. Crispy soft-shell-crab harumaki rolls with spicy ponzu; Goma-glazed roasted aubergine; and Japanese mushroom and truffle toban-yaki make for an inviting, vibrant selection. Everything about this restaurant is bright and fresh - offering a great way to help you through the Autumn transition - from the food to the interior design. The combination of Mediterranean

and Japanese, although not regularly seen, works perfectly here. The small plate menu with its crossover ingredients and style create the ideal offering to enjoy whether you're dining with friends or in search of a relaxed yet romantic meal for two. Thanks to the equally cool bar, you can also indulge in a whole host of drinks, from sake and wine to a range of signature cocktails. Why not finish your meal with their take on an Espresso Martini which features Suntory Toki whisky, espresso coffee, Mr Black coffee liqueur, Frangelico and Maraschino foam.

Putting an extra big ‘S’ into SUV Alfa Romeo has a strong heritage when it comes to fast cars, but the Stelvio Quadrifoglio brings a whole new meaning to the term. This serious piece of Italian automotive engineering takes the SUV market to new heights and provides plenty of fun along the way.

Stelvio Quadrifoglio Exploring the limits and stretching the boundaries of the SUV market probably aren’t things you would have associated with the name Alfa Romeo, yet, that is exactly what the Italian marque have done. Pushing the understanding of what an SUV can be and achieve, Alfa’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio delivers a whole new meaning to the term Sport Utility Vehicle. From the outset it is quite apparent that this is not your usual school run SUV and can be sure that if you decide to use it for the school run, you will get plenty of looks. Road presence comes as a right of passage when it comes to driving an SUV in the UK, largely thanks to the relatively small roads in comparison to the size of the vehicles, but an aggressive stance on the other hand is something more often reserved for the sports car market. This is a monster on the road in every sense of the word.

Take one look from any angle at this car and you become immediately aware of its not so hidden secrets. Drastically unsubtle quad exhaust, bonnet vents and face smackingly obvious performance brakes all combine to deliver a sporty aesthetic worthy of any track-day experience. Fortunately, this isn't just a show car, everything under the bonnet has been specifically designed and engineered to take you wherever you're going, fast. Utilising some engineering know-how and a little technology from Ferrari, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio features an exclusive aluminium 2.9-litre Bi-Turbo V6 engine producing an impressive 510hp and pushing 600Nm of torque through a specifically calibrated eight-speed automatic transmission - which is capable of shifting gears in just 150 milliseconds when in 'Race' mode propelling you and your lucky passengers from zero to sixty-two in

just 3.8 seconds and continue up to a top speed of 176mph. Yes, that's correct, this is a sub 4 second car, the likes of which is rarely seen outside of the sports/super car market. Add to this the innovative Q4 all-wheel drive system and you get a package that not only delivers on performance, but offers an abundance of traction and improved safety in all situations. The system is capable of pushing 100% of the torque to the rear axle in normal conditions and immediately transfer up to 50% of the torque to the front when the wheels reach their grip limit. Active suspension - which comes as standard - works in parallel, continually controlling the suspension and shock absorbers to provide not only precision handling with razor sharp, responsive steering to match, but improved ride comfort in all conditions. However, it's not just the components that allow for these impressive stats. The cars very design provides the ideal platform for performance. A perfect 50:50 weight distribution and best power to weight ratio in its segment, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio was born to perform. A carbon fibre driveshaft and host of aluminium components including that

incredible engine, suspensions and doors to name a few have all been expertly engineered to ensure the weight is not only kept to a minimum without compromising on integrity, but is positioned correctly to ensure the 50:50 split is achieved. Of course, the mechanical technology under the body is somewhat redundant on todays roads without an equally capable electrical system in support. Fortunately, Alfa Romeo's DNA Pro complete with 'Race' mode is on hand to help you navigate the boundaries of this cars performance.

57

ALFA ROMEO

Shifting between modes will immediately trigger changes across systems including the ride and transmission response, providing quicker changes and stiffer suspension when you're in the mood to see what this car can really do. There is no mistaking this is a performance vehicle, but when driving in 'Normal' mode, you can enjoy a more sedate experience, cruising in comfort whilst sitting happy in the knowledge that you are driving efficiently thanks to the cars electronically controlled cylinder deactivation system. The ride becomes softer - at least slightly - and you can drive alongside any other given SUV without making too much of a song and dance. Just don't press on the throttle too hard, otherwise you will immediately enjoy the raspy sound from that quad exhaust system and find yourself a little further down the road than expected. Equally, when cornering, you won't find yourself questioning the speed you take many corners regardless of the DNA's setting as the Stelvio's stance will soak up almost everything you throw at it - within reason. Twist the DNA control to Race however and this car becomes something else entirely. That raspy note becomes a welcome constant and everything becomes instantly tighter. Steering response improves, ride stiffens and you mentally slip into race mode yourself - whether you intend to or not. It would be very easy to find yourself in trouble with the authorities in this car given its insanely swift acceleration and unfathomable speed, so it is advised that you reserve the use of 'Race' for times when you are in fact in a position to legally do so. There will be the odd moment on the open road where you could do with a little extra behind you, but just be aware that this is not a car to be messed with. Inside, the theme continues with a very obvious red starter button resting proudly on the steering wheel, tempting you to press it with haste. Carbon fibre trim transforms an otherwise relatively reserved interior into one that shouts speed and performance, while the clean dash and control interface provides an easy to navigate space in which to drive and enjoy as a passenger. This simple interior offers everything you require for driving and little else on top. There is no room for unnecessary extras here, everything is targeted at the driver and their ability to drive. If you are looking for something that will give you a plush interior space complete with thick carpets, wood veneer and opulent leathers, this is probably not the car for you. If you alfaromeo.co.uk

YOUR DRIVE

want to jump in and go, you might want to check this one out. Leather and alcantara bucket seats provide comfort and stability when throwing your passengers through corners and are supported by an 8.8-inch connected infotainment system complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allowing them to listen to some relaxing music in the process. There is no denying this cars credentials, but getting behind the wheel is something else entirely. A vehicle of this size, shape and style has never before been designed and built to do the things this car is capable of. Pushing the boundaries, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio takes the compact SUV market beyond anything anyone else has deemed possible. Fast doesn't quite cut it when you come to describing the sheer acceleration experienced at full throttle. It is unashamedly quick and wants absolutely everyone to know it, hence the vibrant colour palette, excessively large wheels, aggressively styled, well, everything and contrast brake calipers. Just make sure you remind yourself of the speed limits every now and again.

1966 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL £POA

Perfectly Poised Pagoda Beautiful low mileage example in clean, cream coachwork Following technical difficulties during development of the 220 SL and the introduction of the new ‘S-Class’ platform - which brought all new body manufacturing technologies to the table Mercedes-Benz decided to begin work on the 230 SL. Produced from 1963 to 1967, the car featured a new and improved 2.3-litre fuel-injected inline-six engine offering 148bhp and 196Nm of torque which delivered a sporty package that was equally comfortable. The distinctive and iconic ‘pagoda’ roof was also introduced for the first time alongside the use of radial tires. This stylish roadster was developed to not only be fast, but provide the perfect platform for comfortable driving, and it succeeded. This right-hand drive example from 1966 is presented in white coachwork with black leather interior - a fantastic colour combination - and comes with the factory option third rear seat. The car comes with the factory hard top and a recent black mohair soft top. Its power is put down through the optional 4-speed automatic transmission and features power steering for a comfortable ride on modern roads. Showing just 24,000 miles, this car’s history indicates only two previous owners on the V5 registration document. Second owner Dr. David Firth has provided a letter written in 2013 stating that

he was the second owner and that the car was bought with ‘very little mileage’. Records of MOTs from present, dating back to 1993 suggest alongside Dr Firths letter that the very low mileage currently on the car is correct.

SAVILLS

The changing role of the residential concierge with Lindsay Gill, Associate Director in Savills Residential Development Sales Savills website recently saw a 52 per cent increase in online searches for homes with concierge facilities, compared with the previous quarter. This is no surprise: many international buyers and potential tenants come to the UK on holiday at this time of year and take the opportunity to house hunt for a potential London base while they’re here. For buyers from global cities such as New York, 24/7 security offered by a concierge team is a key requirement and something they will be used to in their respective homes around the world. Tenants, meanwhile, tend to be people who lead busy lives and are therefore in search of a turnkey apartment with excellent concierge facilities. We’ve also found that their expectations regarding facilities rise the closer they get into central London - they’re looking for more of a hotel service within a residential context. The services offered by residential concierges have changed a great deal over recent years. They can vary between developments and while some primarily provide a security function, others offer a real handson approach. Sometimes badged as a Lifestyle Manager, the noveau concierge can be heavily involved in the smooth running of building to make sure that its residents have what they need, when they need it. A good concierge can help with anything from sourcing theatre tickets and making dinner reservations that may not be publicly available to arranging flowers and assisting with the organisation of personal events. Indeed, the level of encyclopaedic local knowledge that the concierges at some of the capital’s most prestigious new developments possess equals anything you’d find at a five-star hotel. While the role of the residential concierge has changed significantly over time, ultimately they are there to make residents’ lives easier. Here are some examples of homes both new homes and well-established properties that all have their own concierge. Savills Central London New Homes | 020 7409 8756 | savills.co.uk

If you ask me, the last house price boom really was something. It created property millionaires, TV celebrities, accidental landlords, an explosion of PropTech companies and one or two red-faces in its aftermath. In 2007, the hottest year, the price of the average UK home rose by £15,900. E14 felt the effect as well, by prices rising by 19.4 per cent or £59,100 in that year alone. We all know things came to a sudden halt in 2008 with the credit crunch, when the availability of mortgage finance evaporated seemingly overnight. Since then the national market has made something of a come back with prices rising more steadily and sales volumes sitting broadly halfway between their highest and lowest point in the period 2000 to 2007.

Year But does the data suggest our area is about to see a house price boom? The numbers show that sales volumes have been a bit slow, as they always are at this point of the housing market cycle, but quieter periods always precede booms. Mortgage lending remains buoyant, and housebuilding levels are not disrupting the balance of supply and demand.

More importantly, however, is the growing appeal of E14. It seems every month we’re seeing more and more people looking for their perfect new home. With demand growing, it seems to us like the next market cycle could be something quite special for those who make their move now. If you’d like to know more please give me a call. Spencer Fortag

The rate at which properties sell in the market is probably the best indicator of what we in the trade call ‘buoyancy’. In this chart, we show the number of properties which have been sold each year since 2009. You can also see a quite high level of volatility, but this is a typical outcome of seasonal patterns.
