Sepia Fiftysix Audaciously mixing eras, the part-retro, part-contemporary silhouette inspired by an iconic 1956 watch reveals its playfulness through a new sepia brown-toned dial colour. A look imbued with a vintage touch, interpreted through two pink gold models with a calfskin strap designed for everyday wear.

Heir to an iconic watch from the 1950s, the Fiftysix® collection celebrates the skilful marriage of styles and eras. Fiftysix® borrows powerful characteristics from reference 6073, introduced in 1956 and the very first water-resistant automatic watch ever created by Vacheron Constantin. Notably the lugs shape forming a section of the Manufacture’s Maltese cross emblem; the box-type crystal topping the bezel in the manner of post-war watches, along with a retro look that perfectly complements the timeless elegance of its

18 carats 5N pink gold case measuring 40 mm in diameter. A new sepia brown-toned dial colour now reinforces the vintage character of this watch, available in two versions, automatic and complete calendar, fitted for the first time by a brown calfskin leather strap. A chic and authentic spirit to be worn every day and on all occasions. The retro-contemporary character of the Fiftysix® complete calendar watch is imbued with a new vintage aura. Framed by a

Two Centuries of Haute Horlogerie

40mm-diameter 18 carats 5N pink gold case, the sepia brown-toned dial is visually extended by a calfskin leather strap. Punctuated by day, date, month indications - as well as a precision moon phase requiring no adjustment for 122 years - the watch face conceals a wealth of details. The subtle sector-type dial features opaline, sunburst and snailed finishes creating fascinating light effects, setting the stage for 18 carats 5N pink gold moon discs standing out against a blue sky. Around the circumference, the chapter ring bears specially designed Arabic numerals, alternating with gold hourmarkers coated in luminescent material, as are the hours and minutes hands also visible in the dark. This results in exemplary legibility of the complete calendar indications, accurately driven by the 2460 QCL/1 self-winding movement, also equipped with a stop-seconds device. The sapphire caseback reveals traditional Côtes de Genève finishes, swept over by a 22 carats pink gold oscillating weight delicately openworked in a shape inspired by the Maltese cross. A strong symbol also evoked in the shape of the lugs and on the notched crown of this watch that stylishly mingles historical influences with the aesthetic codes of contemporary elegance. vacheron-constantin.com

Vacheron Constantin is paying tribute to Haute Couture, a strictly codified, rigorously disciplined and imaginative universe with which it enjoys a close kinship. The selection of watches from the Maison’s private collection highlights this powerful connection. On show for one month in London, these pieces testify to the feminine creativity that the Manufacture has been cultivating for more than two centuries. Haute Couture and Haute Horlogerie demonstrate a powerful connection highlighted in their very names. Vacheron Constantin shares with Haute Couture a concern for irreproachable quality dedicated to creativity and an approach to artisanal work characteristic of the artistic crafts. Finally, one cannot evoke this closeness without mentioning the feminine universe, the privileged field of expression of Haute Couture and the embodiment of Vacheron Constantin’s artistic sensitivity for over two centuries. The Vacheron Constantin Heritage collections, comprising more than 1,300 pieces, bear witness to this formidable creative impetus in the field of ladies’ watches. With a first historical reference dating back to 1815, a yellow gold pocket watch featuring a caseband finely engraved with a floral motif enhanced with garnets, the Maison provided early demonstrations of the special attention it devoted to women. To illustrate these two centuries of watchmaking in the feminine mode, Vacheron Constantin has selected a few pieces from its Heritage collections. In the manner of a great couturier who designs clothes for special events, the Maison has chosen these timepieces to be associated with an outfit worn at a gala, tea time, lunch or cocktail party, while not forgetting the accessory watch, an indispensable object for people of good taste.

ESSENZA ESSENZA SCV12 SCV12 Excess is the norm at Roger Dubuis, firmly focused on a vision of the world that is based on a philosophy of living larger than life. Roger Dubuis also draws on cutting-edge industries that share the same values. In recent years, this has given birth to an iconic alliance with Italian legend Lamborghini Squadra Corse. Channelling unreasonable sensations and exceptional power, the Excalibur Aventador S was the first horological expression of this high-speed partnership to hit the track and the Manufacture has since introduced a new black-and-red version. Living up to the “Powered by Raging Mechanics” signature, and fuelled by a shared flair for technological complexity, the Excalibur Aventador S is impelled by an ‘engine’ in the shape of the specially developed Duotor calibre. Now, Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Roger Dubuis have showcased their resolutely

future-driven approach by simultaneously unveiling an amazing hypercar and the hyperwatch inspired by their adrenaline-fuelled partnership. Lamborghini’s freshly evolved SCV12 is the first limited-edition V12 engine-based hypercar for track only, specially boosted for Super Trofeo races and the most powerful ever made by Lamborghini. It has the capacity to exceed 830 hp thanks to aerodynamic supercharging at high speed, along with higher downforce levels than a GT3 car and unprecedented aerodynamic efficiency. In creating the new Excalibur Essenza SCV12, Roger Dubuis has likewise evolved its Duotor, stripping it down to essentials to enhance performance, while harmonising the design codes shared by the timepiece and the fearsome speed machine. Freed from its upper bridge and reworked in skeleton flying mode shaped like the wheel-rim of the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12, the barrel can be viewed from the top as if one were peering through a transparent supercar hood. The strut bars on the top of the calibre remain a signature feature of Excalibur Lamborghini-inspired models. Like Lamborghini, which is renowned for customised supercars based on its famous “Ad personam” programme, Roger Dubuis aficionados can enjoy the same level of service through the exclusive “Rarities” programme offered by the Geneva-based Manufacture. The ultimate expression of individual creativity, this concept takes the term “bespoke” into a whole new dimension of hyper personalisation. It will enable each lucky owner to enjoy the thrill of co-creating and owning a truly one-of-a-kind version of the Excalibur Essenza SCV12.

Endurance Pro

Breitling’s Endurance Pro, featuring a thermo-compensated SuperQuartz™ movement, is the ultimate athleisure watch positioned in the brand’s Professional range. Designed both as a lightweight watch for athletes and a casual, everyday sports chronograph, this is the perfect lightweight and lighthearted luxury sports watch combining high precision, innovative technology, and vibrant, colorful design. The launch is also accompanied by the ‘Breitling Endurance Pro Strava Challenge’, which offers the opportunity to compete for some incredible prizes. This new professional timepiece from Breitling combines an ultra-lightweight 44 millimeter Breitlight® case and a thermocompensated SuperQuartz™ movement ten times more accurate than conventional quartz. The Endurance Pro offers optimal comfort, matchless precision, and functionality that will appeal

As Breitling CEO Georges Kern explains, “When Jan Frodeno first became a member of our Triathlon Squad, he asked me what Breitling he should wear. We started brainstorming about the perfect sporty lifestyle watch and that conversation led to the development of the Endurance Pro. With this watch, we adapted our SuperQuartz™ technology to the needs of people like Jan who play as hard as they work. And the Breitlight® case is so light that it won’t interfere with anyone’s training routine or sporting activity.” A SuperQuartz™ movement powers every piece in Breitling’s Professional range, the tool watches that have long been favorites with explorers and pilots. The Endurance Pro takes the range into the world of sports, in which Breitling also has a significant legacy.

both to committed athletes and to more casual sports enthusiasts. Designed for men and women whose active lives blend a professional mindset with a sporty lifestyle, this watch is equal to the challenges of a rigorous workout but fashionable enough for everyday wear.

In cycling, the brand has partnered with major competitions, including the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France and the same is true in motorsports, where Breitling has sponsored famous rallies. The brand has long offered watches with sports-friendly functions and the Endurance Pro carries on that proud legacy.

WATCHES Today, Breitling stands for aspirational yet accessible sports, such as running, cycling, and swimming the disciplines that come together in triathlon and IRONMAN® competitions. High performance, yes, but activities that everyone can also enjoy at their own pace. To support this, the Breitling Endurance Pro Strava Challenge was created to engage and motivate participants from all over the world. Strava, the world’s leading app for runners and cyclists allows athletes to track and analyze every aspect of their activities, regardless of their choice of sport. Those who take part in the Strava Challenge, which went live on 26 August 2020, will be competing for some great prizes, including a Breitling Colnago C64 bike, Breitling Endurance Pro watches, and Breitling jersey kits. To be eligible for the prizes, competitors will have to complete 500 minutes - about the time it takes a world-class triathlete to complete a full IRONMAN® event - in the activities of their choice, be it swimming, running, cycling, hiking, or another sport. Unlike the IRONMAN® stars, participants in the Breitling Endurance Pro Strava Challenge will have two weeks to rack up their 500 minutes. The winners will be selected at random from the pool of competitors who complete the Strava Challenge. Additional information is available at breitling.com/endurancepro. The Endurance Pro is inspired by the Breitling Sprint, a memorable watch from the 1970s that combined a pulsometer with an impressively light weight. It was ideal for athletes who wanted to be able to monitor their heart rates. It was made from resin so it was particularly comfortable on the wrist. Of course, it was also produced in some dazzling 1970s colours, and the Endurance Pro

is clearly a modern evolution of that design. There are five colourful variations of the new Breitling Endurance Pro, each one featuring a black dial and a black bidirectional rotating bezel with engraved cardinal compass points (N, S, E, and W). The five variations are distinguished by their own bold colours - they are designed with an inner bezel, which is marked with a useful pulsometer scale, in a choice of white, blue, yellow, orange, or red, making it easy for the user to keep track of their heart rate during sports sessions. The watches are presented on a Diver Pro rubber strap in matching colour to the inner bezel ring. The strap is secured with a Breitlight® double-pin buckle. For Endurance Pro fans who want to add even more colour to this already dazzling watch, vibrant Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO straps that pair perfectly with this eye-catching chronograph can be purchased separately. The watch also has a tactile molded crown in the same colour as the strap and the inner bezel ring for excellent grip and maneuverability. At the heart of the Endurance Pro is the COSCcertified Breitling Caliber 82, whose SuperQuartz™ technology delivers exceptional precision. The chronograph second hand has a red pointer so it is easy to keep track of the elapsed time. Along with a small-second subdial, there are 1/10th second and 30-minute chronograph counters that have also been designed for easy reading. The Breitling Endurance Pro is water-resistant to 10 bar/100 meters/330 feet and comes with a two year warranty.

SUBMERSIBLE AZZURRO The new Panerai Submersible Azzurro - 42 mm emerges as a professional diving instrument. A limited edition model available exclusively online. Having first built its reputation on mastery of the specialized diving watch category, Panerai has returned to their origins with the development of a new professional instrument. Submersible Azzurro - 42 mm, made in only 500 pieces and available exclusively online at panerai.com. Developed to merge technical performance and substance with proven knowhow, the new Submersible unifies its aesthetic and functional dimensions by displaying a fitting colour on the opaque ceramic disc of the bezel - blue, a hue that instantly evokes the sea. Since the very beginning, water has been the brand’s distinctive element and blue has been Italy’s unofficial national colour since its unification, a milestone reached just a few months after the opening of Giovanni Panerai’s first historic Florentine shop. Calibrated to meet the demanding specifications required of watches intended to withstand extreme pressure, the new Submersible Azzurro features a unidirectional rotating bezel, screwed case back and the iconic bridge device to protect the crown. Luminescent indexes, hands and dots glow in a green-blue hue for ease of underwater legibility. Adhering to equally rigorous mechanical standards, the model employs the P.900 Caliber, designed and developed entirely by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. Accurate, resistant and high-performing, it is the first proprietary self-winding Panerai movement of its diameter and thickness (4.2 mm) to combine the date function and three-day power reserve.

Waterproof up to 30 bar (about 300 meters), the watch features a black rubber strap with a trapezoidal pin buckle in brushed steel. A second strap in Sportech velcro black is also included, along with a tool for changing the straps and a screwdriver to remove the buckle.

A New Greener Future FOR ACQUA DI PARMA Delivering the iconic scent of the Italian sun for over a century, Acqua di Parma’s colonie universe has developed into an all encompassing collection of fine fragrances for every occasion. Each unique, yet all born from the foundations of Colonia. Now, the Italian masters are taking the brand even further with the introduction of Colonia Futura. Offering so much more than just another fragrance in the already impressive catalogue, this new addition to the colonie family is a genuine emblem of the sustainability manifesto of the historic Italian Maison. Significantly taking the name of Acqua di Parma Futura in this bold new take on the luxury fragrance.

Sustainability, in Acqua di Parma’s view, means preserving traditions, respecting and renewing them in a dynamic and vibrant transition between past, present and future, to protect and share authentic Italian style, alive and intact, with future generations. The new Colonia Futura is a contemporary expression of the Maison’s drive towards the preservation and promotion of the natural and cultural resources that have existed since the it’s beginnings, and that has grown into an ethical, transparent and sustainable approach. For over a century, Acqua di Parma’s purpose has indeed been to safeguard and pass on the Art of Italian Living, knowing

that the prerequisite to make this happen is protecting the cultural, artistic and natural heritage of Italy. Today, as new environmental scenarios and lifestyles develop in a rapidly changing world, the Maison feels now is the time to release a new product that encapsulates this commitment. This fragrance is firmly rooted to the heart of the Maison, to its original universe - the planet of the colonie. In fact, Colonia Futura follows the tradition of Colonia, an iconic fragrance of the Maison, in the olfactory signature and in the quality of its Frutti d’Oro, but projects it into the future, in the knowledge that sustainability is the necessary condition for evolution. Colonia Futura is therefore Acqua di Parma’s declaration of love for nature - a vibrant explosion of natural ingredients, wonderfully combined, but, at the same time, individually bursting out. It is transparent in its essence and vibrating with life. The composition of the new Eau de Cologne contains 99% natural origin ingredients in line with the ISO16128 standard with the remaining 1% necessary to ensure the continued quality and strength of the fragrance as time passes. Closely connected with nature and fully respectful of the local crops and human resources employed to make it, this fragrance takes some of the most classical and attractive ingredients of the Cologne scent structure and therefore of the history of perfumery, selecting the best and richest qualities of original sensory tones and reinterpreting them in a vibrating and contemporary key. The bright sparkling tones of P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) Bergamot from Calabria, the roundness of Clary Sage and the freshness of Lavender are the key essences of Colonia Futura. These olfactory notes are skilfully blended and dosed in a composition highlighting the bright richness of Italian sun-filled landscapes, which has always been the trademark of Colonia. The packaging, designed in accordance with an environmentallyfriendly format, is also sustainable. Among the packaging innovations there is the recycled and recyclable plastic cap, replacing the iconic bakelite one. The dispenser can also easily be parted from the glass bottle making it easily removed for recycling. The label is made with scrap dust from marble quarries - it is applied to the bottle and to the Parma yellow box characterised by its trademark cylinder shape, and by sage green tones that echo the main ingredient of Colonia Futura. The iconic cylinder is made of FSC certified cardboard. acquadiparma.com | johnlewis.com

Each individual element hints at a sustainability that affects each and every level of the production chain and places the individual components in perspective of a circular economy. The recyclable nature of all these elements of Colonia Futura embodies Acqua di Parma’s efforts to promote a more conscious use of the planet’s resources and at the same time reap the benefits of the circular economy. Recycling glass, as well as plastic, means a lower emission of polluting materials on the planet, for an overall benefit at every level, from environmental to social. In this way, Colonia Futura becomes part of that world of values which sees in the rite of passage between generations, the leitmotif of the whole world of Acqua di Parma Colonie. Past, present and future are dimensions of time that exist only alongside each other so that the new fragrance is Acqua di Parma’s way of facing the future with a gift directly from nature. Colonia Futura is a new fragrance that, for Acqua di Parma, is an authentic creative challenge and an invigorating blending exercise that gives a contemporary twist to traditional perfume ingredients. Each ingredient is dosed and measured and combines with all the others in a unique and modern composition. Expressed from its opening notes is an indomitable and vibrant nature. Its vertical and dynamic structure resonates with the first subtle notes of vetiver enveloped in a bright citrus explosion of Bergamot, Lemon and Grapefruit, enhanced by the spicy nuances of pink pepper. The vibrant beginning becomes softer in the heart of the fragrance, revealing a sweet fougère and aromatic spirit that

characterises this new perfume, in a fantastic duet between the grassy fresh nuance of lavender and the almost tactile aroma of sage. This harmony finds perfect completion in the background with vetiver bringing a woody touch with an intensely earthy nuance. In addition to this stunning new Eau de Cologne, the collection also includes shampoo and shower gel as well as spray and stick deodorants. The shampoo and shower gel, with its light, shiny and transparent texture, develops a soft creamy foam when it comes into contact with water. The gentle formula, enriched with panthenol and marine micronutrients, leaves the skin pleasantly smooth and fresh and the hair easy to comb. It is available in a 200ml bottle, that comes in recycled and recyclable plastic, much like its closure cap. The spray deodorant does not use gas for dispensing, and with its alcohol-based formula, guarantees immediate and longlasting freshness which is available in a 150ml format. Finally, the stick deodorant guarantees pure freshness as well. Its alcohol-free formula is also suitable for more sensitive skin and is available in a 75ml format. With such emphasis now being placed on creating a sustainable world and turning the tide on the damaging, disposable culture that has developed across the globe, Acqua di Parma have certainly shown a hand of positive change, and even more impressively managing to do it whilst maintaining the same craftsmenship and quality we have all come to expect from the brand.

Salter’s Steamers are a family firm that has provided first-class hospitality on the Royal River Thames for over 160 years established in 1858. As one of the longest established firms on the Thames they own one of the largest and most exclusive fleets operating on the river, from cruise craft to day-boats, small craft and of course, punts. Offering a variety of hugely popular boat trips through some of the most beautiful scenery in England. Cruises combining traditional style, contemporary comforts and

the highest modern standards operate during the summer, but you can also privately charter their exclusive craft. The best way to see this beautiful stretch of river however is on the more personal hired vessels, namely punting. Weather permitting of course, you can while away the afternoon onboard your own, private punt as you meander along the calm waters. What’s more, the hotel can arrange a stunning picnic and punting session for you with Salters Steamers to indulge in some delicious, locally sourced food while you enjoy the river.

THE GAINSBOROUGH

Luxurious Occupying two glorious Grade II Listed buildings with elegant Georgian and Victorian facades, The Gainsborough Bath Spa lies right in the heart of historic Bath and makes for the perfect staycation location this autumn. The first hotel for the YTL group in the UK and the AA Hotel of the Year England 2017/2018, the luxurious hotel is centred around Bath's famous thermal bath history with exclusive access to the natural, mineral-rich thermal waters right in the hotel's Spa Village. Named after the famous artist Sir Thomas Gainsborough, the hotel boasts an illustrious history. One of the buildings opened in 1826 was a hospital until the 1930s before being taken over by the Bath Technical College to merge to become the City of Bath College. The other building was founded in 1609 and was the Hospital of Thomas Bellott, created to house the ill who lived in poverty. The current building was constructed in 1860 and still features the original coat of arms and stone tablet. The redevelopment of the buildings into the hotel included refurbishment of the main wings, as well as the construction of a new wing and the redesigning of Bellott's, linked by a new walkway

The hotel first opened in 2015 and was designed by New York based Champalimaud Design. Bright, welcoming and elegant, the amenities, rooms and suites are as luxurious and comfortable as you would expect them to be. With crisp white bed linen, modern bathrooms with heated floors, black out curtains, complimentary WiFi, Nespresso coffee making facilities, Aromatherapy Associates toiletries, 24 hour room service, and complimentary Bath House experience at the Spa Village. As well as a selection of suites from Junior to Two Bedroom, and even the corner Gainsborough Suite with panoramic views across the city, the hotel also offers a selection of rooms considerately designed for our guests with impaired mobility. Modern, yet classic with clean designs and high ceilings, the luxury Spa Villages boasts three thermal pools, an infrared sauna, steam room and ice cove. Perfect for those looking to refresh and renew after a stressful few months of lockdown. What's more, if you book with the hotel directly you can save 20% off any treatment booked in the Spa Village during your stay to further enhance your trip, as well as a complimentary signature Gainsborough Cocktail per guest in the stylish bar. The beautiful Bath House offers a selection of Spa Days as well as The Bath House experience where you can enjoy facilities and have access to a fully-equipped gym. Treatments on offer include the aptly named, 60 minute, Renew and Refresh, with a choice of an Enhanced Swedish massage or a renowned organic Facial. The

Bath Spa Break massage in particular is enhanced by mists of pure Neroli water as your feet are massages with Rosemary and Pine essences and then warm lavender infused towels are used to relax and comfort the body. All treatments comply to COVID-19 standards and hygiene practices and The Bath House is booked in sessions ensuring you are able to safely socially distance with no trouble at all. With such a fantastic location, the wonders of Bath are easy to explore from the hotel. Directly opposite the hotel is the Thermae Bath Spa where you can bathe in Britain's only naturally warm, mineral-rich waters just as the Celts, Romans, and Saxons did over 2000 years ago. Elsewhere the bustling high street is packed with lively bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, and Bath Abbey is well worth a visit for its stunning architecture. Literature also goes hand-in hand in this famous spa town. Bath has played a central role in books by Chaucer, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens amongst others. Austen in particular resided in a number of properties in Bath for five years and even set two of her six published novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, in the city. If you are a fan then be sure to head over to the Jane Austen Centre to find out more. Literary walks are very popular in the city and in-particularly during the annual Bath Festival that takes place in May/June when some of the world's best writers and critics head to Bath for an exciting programme of talks, readings and debates.

A UNESCO decreed city of 'outstanding and universal value' the best way to enjoy and explore Bath is by simply walking around the town. There's plenty to marvel at in the hilly city, from the Royal Crescent and Pulteney Bridge on the River Avon to the Botanical Gardens and Sham Castle.

The hotel is hoping to re-open the three AA Rosette Dan Moon at The Gainsborough Restaurant for lunch and dinner in the coming months, so please check prior to your visit if you plan on dining at the hotel. The restaurant is open daily for you to enjoy breakfast. Nightly rates at The Gainsborough Bath Spa start from ÂŁ290 on a room-only basis. REVIEW

aqua shard Bringing a unique take on the best of British, aqua shard has returned to business with a new 'Forgotten British' menu. Offered as a set menu featuring four courses including; Lady Llanover's salt duck, native lobster, roasted lamb saddle and Windermere tart, the menu delivers an intriguing selection of flavour and style. Each of the courses take inspiration or have been directly adapted from past recipes by Matthew Fort and Anthony Garlando who discovered and created the dishes. Lady Llanover’s salt duck for example was taken from ‘The First Principles of Good Cookery’ (1867) by Lady Llanover with Anthony revisiting the traditional method of salting meat, which is both a preserver and part of the cooking process. The lobster dish is actually based on a recipe from Mrs Fort, Matthew’s mother and uses Yorkshire mustard illustrating and celebrating the strong tradition of using local ingredients. Anthony then lightened this traditionally rich dish by adding lemon to the sauce and cooking the lobster in Earl Grey tea.

Finishing off the meal, the Windermere tart actually takes inspiration from another of Matthew's family members. Taken from Mrs Squarey’s Cookbook (1886) who was a distant relative, the much-loved dish appeared on the tables of generations of family members. This delicious menu boasts an impressive selection of British produce with each ingredient presented in beautiful fashion and makes a nice break from the home-made cuisine and take-away dishes everyone was restricted to for so long. Thankfully, nothing can take away from those stunning views, so fear not, you can soak up the scenes of London below as if everything is right in the world. Slip into a momentary bubble of norm whilst enjoying some fantastic food and drink. The Shard and aqua shard have put numerous measures in place to ensure a safe and comfortable experience whilst maintaining the same levels of quality and service you have come to expect from the restaurant. In order to enjoy the Forgotten British Menu however,

Adapted from ‘The London Art of Cookery’ (1753) by John Farley, who was the principle cook at The London Tavern, the lamb saddle takes guidance from his book which was designed for use by “the mechanic, and the Earl and any aspiring chef in between.”

you will need to book a table prior to your visit and adhere to the guidance given on arrival. Despite this, thanks to the measures in place, there will be little to no impact on your dining experience and certainly no impact on those views.

ROAD TRIPPING

.Grand touring is a unique pleasure that many enjoy, but few will get to experience it at the hands of this incredible engineering marvel. Taking cross-country driving to the next level, the McLaren GT does not hold back. Pack your bags and prepare to experience true pleasure.

MCLAREN GT

With many international forms of transportation remaining unpredictable, there's no better time to take to the road and explore at your own pace. If that pace happens to be exhilaratingly swift, then there's only one car for the job. McLaren's striking GT achieves something no other has yet managed. An outright supercar in its own right - boasting a substantial 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 packing an impressive 612 bhp and 630 Nm of torque - the McLaren GT will accelerate from standing in just 3.2 seconds and reach over 200 mph (when the international road legally allows of course). But that's merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this cars impressive catalogue of facts and figures and they're not just related to its supercar status, some you would even expect from a family hatchback.

In developing the GT, McLaren were obviously keen to maintain the level of performance owners and potential buyers have come to expect from the marque and the results do not disappoint. Utilising their well established carbon fibre monocoque know-how which was pioneered in motorsport all the way back in 1981, the engineers have managed to develop a passenger cell unique in the Grand Touring segment. The bespoke MonoCell II-T monocoque - the T denoting 'Touring' - provides not only exceptional strength and rigidity, but offers increased interior space and a level of refinement beyond that of any previous model. On first appearances you will notice the incredibly long body, which is actually longer than any other in either the Sports or Super Series model lines, stretching to a length of 4.7 metres. This

includes extended overhang on both the front and rear longer than is usual on a McLaren. You might think as a result that this is therefore not suited to life on the more urban road, but you would be very much mistaken. Thanks to more clever engineering, the car features a 10-degree approach angle (which increases to 13-degrees when vehicle lift is engaged) and underbody clearance of 110mm (130mm with vehicle lift) which is actually comparative to many mainstream saloons. So those traffic calming measures you will undoubtedly come across on your travels won't pose any problems at all. When it comes to the design, the length of the car has been cleverly used to accentuate certain features while others have been designed to create an aesthetic that doesn't appear out of proportion. The vast rear end could quite easily have posed a problem yet the team at McLaren have managed to craft an extended carbon fibre upper structure which combines with the monocoque cell to create a car-wide architecture that allows the engine and exhaust to sit as low as possible to the ground, not only improving the centre of gravity and consequently the cars agility, but also providing the necessary space between the engine and the fully glazed tailgate to offer a surprisingly large amount of luggage space.

MCLAREN GT Boasting a whopping 420 litres of stowage with a golf bag or two pairs of 185cm skis and boots or a snowboard as well as luggage able to be carried with ease, this rear luggage space is a real game-changer. With a further 150 litres of space at the front big enough to stow two overnight bags comfortably means the McLaren GT can accommodate a segment-leading total of 570 litres and removes the usual restrictions you find in a car with this level of performance. In order to ensure your luggage doesn't experience the full force of the heat from the engine directly below, the clever people at McLaren have also developed an impressive 'barrier' which measures around only an inch in depth, but dramatically reduces the temperature between the source and your belongings. Furthermore, this futuristic material also does an excellent job at reducing engine and road noise in the cabin supporting the GT's refinement credentials. The elegant interior of the McLaren GT with exceptional levels of attention paid to the quality of materials and occupant comfort is a space designed for uninterrupted pleasure on longer journeys. Comfort seats fitted as standard are unique to the McLaren GT and have been optimised for long distance comfort, with the perfect amount of padding and providing shoulder and back support

inserts, with black stitching and carpets. Delicate, organic curves sweep across the instrument panel and into the doors, shrink-wrapping around the audio speakers and floating central touchscreen. Technology and modern craftsmanship share equal prominence, the finest high-quality materials are complemented by features such as the most sophisticated McLaren infotainment system to date, hiddenuntil-lit ambient lighting and the option of an electrochromic glazed panel that darkens or lightens at the touch of a button in lieu of the standard carbon fibre composite gloss black roof. Machined and knurled aluminium switches and controls contrast with Satin Black surrounds for the infotainment screen, steering wheel clasp, window switches, gear-selection console and air vent housings, with further decorative elements finished in Satin Silver. A 12-speaker, Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system, featuring carbon fibre sub-bass woofers and Kevlar mid-range drive units, is also available to enjoy some serious road tunes on your journey. YOUR DRIVE bespoke anti-roll bars is paired with continuously variable, twinvalve hydraulic dampers that feature individual compression and rebound characteristics that reflect the increased ride height of the McLaren GT compared with other McLaren vehicles. The incredibly stiff MonoCell II-T carbon fibre structure is essential in facilitating the reduced spring rates that provide enhanced comfort levels with no detriment on dynamic performance. Proactive Damping Control, a technology unique to this model - governed by the most sophisticated iteration yet of the pioneering Optimal Control Theory software algorithm first developed for the McLaren 720S - is a state-of-the-art system which uses inputs from sensors to 'read' the road, learning from previous scenarios to interpret what will likely happen next and reacting predictively in just two milliseconds to dictate damper responses. This is a serious piece of automotive engineering. Whichever way you look at it, you will struggle to find fault. From performance to comfort, usability to aesthetics, there are very few reasons not to consider the McLaren GT when you're looking for your next continent conquering car. The refinement they have managed to achieve whilst delivering this comfort and performance combination is something to behold and will undoubtedly stir competitors into upping their game.

SAVILLS

Walking From Home with Liza-Jane Kelly, Sales Director, Savills Sloane Street

Whether it’s the ability to fit some extra exercise into your daily routine, avoid being crammed onto public transport or simply to save a bit of money, being able to walk or cycle into the office has long been seen as a welcome bonus. As physical and environmental awareness grows, TFL bikes have grown ever more popular; many businesses are also offering cycle to work schemes. And the current pandemic has brought this form of commute into even sharper focus. The question is, where in London are the best places to buy a home for cycling or walking to work and how much might it cost? Our researchers have looked at the most affordable hotspots within half an hour’s walk or cycle of three of London’s biggest work hubs: the West End, City of London and Canary Wharf.

The West End Considered by many as the centre of the capital, London’s famous West End is a world-leading destination for retail, dining

and entertainment with its abundance of shops, restaurants and theatres. It’s also where a large number of Londoners work. Our research shows that for those wanting to walk to work in the West End, the most affordable place to buy is St Pancras & Somers Town, where the average price for a home is £582,110. Meanwhile those wanting to cycle should buy in New Cross where the average home costs £381,813.

The City of London The London we know today grew from the historic City of London, or Square Mile, which was established soon after the Roman invasion. Initially known for trading at coffee houses in the 17th century, today the area is internationally renowned as a hub for some of the biggest financial institutions including the Bank of England, London Stock Exchange and Lloyds of London. City workers looking for the most affordable walk to work should consider buying in Shadwell, where the average home is £389,489. Those who want to cycle to the office in under 30 minutes should look at Canning Town North where the average home is £327,633.

Canary Wharf Developed in the early 1990s on land that was previously the heart of the capital’s shipping industry, Canary Wharf is now the secondary central business district of London. And as such it is one of the capital’s busiest areas for commuters. Our research has found that Abbey, in the borough of Barking and Dagenham, offers the most affordable area from which to cycle into Canary Wharf. Here the average price of a home is £268,100. For those looking to commute on foot, Canning Town South is the most affordable with the average price of a home standing at £379,133. Savills Sloane Street | 020 7730 0822 | savills.co.uk

Outside space has always been desirable in E14, but in this age of lockdowns, it's now a necessity. For many of my clients, the priority order when considering a new home (location, price, size, amenities, outside space) has changed fundamentally. It’s more important than ever to remember that gardens, balconies and terraces aren't just eye candy; they now underpin a property’s saleability. Buyers' attitudes towards and appetite for outside space often comes down to the area where the property is located. As the chart above shows, the most common type of property in E14 is a flat. This means that a significant number of homebuyers will expect ideally a terrace, but at least a balcony where you can grow some tomatoes.

In E14, there are approximately 82,600 people living across 700 hectares of land. This means that the population density is 117.2 people per hectare. To put that in the national context, it scores 5/5, five being the most densely populated areas. We can, therefore, classify our area as urban, which means residents' will have very limited choices when it comes to outside space. Outside space will now powerfully differentiate your property from others on the market, but quality and quantity both have parts to play. If you'd like to know how to make the most of what you've got, please pop into our office so we can give you the inside track. Spencer Fortag

Local tenure patterns The mix of tenure of properties is a substantial yardstick of the attributes of homes in a local market. One of the best parts of the planning system in the UK is that social housing is heavily mixed in with the private stock, so we don't get large geographical divides between people as is the case in urban France.
