T
he suburb of Highveld is a fairly new middleincome neighbourhood developed in the heart of the well-established central parts of Centurion in the mid-1990s.
Centurion Gautrain station and it’s also served by municipal bus services. Highveld’s residential offering varies from student apartments selling for just under R500,000 to spacious four- to five-bedroom family homes priced at about R4m and in-between townhouses, freestanding houses and properties in Highveld Estate. Vacant land and commercial property are also available.
This piece of land, previously belonging to the state-owned aerospace and defence technology enterprise, Denel, remained vacant for a while amidst the extensive development of the booming surrounding residential and business areas of Centurion. This resulted in Highveld turning out to be one of the most favourably positioned suburbs in the area, as far as ease of access to modern infrastructure and conveniences is concerned. Add to this the suburb’s position midway between Pretoria’s Central Business District (±20km to the north) and the economic hub of Midrand (±20km to the south) and you have a textbook location offering equal convenience to motorists commuting between Gauteng’s big cities, residents reliant on public transport, and stay-at-home residents/students needing to be very close to basic services and amenities.
Centurion boasts an array of higher educational facilities of which Centurion Academy, The Open Window Institute for Art and Digital Sciences, and Damelin Centurion Campus are virtually situated on the neighbourhood’s doorstep. Highveld residents have an excellent choice of Centurion’s top primary and high schools and a variety of preschool facilities are located in the suburb.
Highveld is practically situated on John Vorster Drive alongside the N1 and within close proximity to the N14 and R21 freeways linking it to Lanseria International Airport (40km) and OR Tambo International Airport (50km) respectively. The suburb is on the Gautrain bus route about 5km from
Highveld has its own basic amenities such as a supermarket, petrol station, take-away outlets and doctors rooms, while the well-known Centurion Mall – offering comprehensive shopping and business facilities, movie theatres and great restaurants – is a mere 4km from the suburb. The area has no shortage of medical facilities either. Centurion municipal clinic is close by while Netcare’s flagship Unitas Hospital is a 10-minute drive away. Other medical facilities to be found in a radius of less than 10km are Intercare Southdowns, Centurion Day Hospital and Centurion Eye Hospital.

HouseME to dramatically benefit Gauteng’s residential rental market
H
ouseME is a digital rental management platform that has taken the residential property market by storm since its launch in the Western Cape less than a year ago. HouseME’s free tenant-screening, coupled with a tenant-rating system, incentivises responsible behaviour, while the transparent bidding mechanism allows tenants to bid on properties they really want, and guarantees fair price to landlords. “We connect dream tenants to great landlords, and facilitate a mutually beneficial relationship between them,” says HouseME’s CEO, Ben Shaw. HouseME’s 2,5% management fee – which includes the free rental guarantee – landed well with clients
in Cape Town, where HouseME already has more than 1,300 landlords and 1,400 tenants registered on its system – making it larger than many long-established industry players. In July, HouseME is extending its service footprint to Gauteng, and introducing new property management suites that provide options for hands-off landlords who want specific services without paying a large monthly retainer. Shaw says the transparency and efficiencies realised through their platform allows expert, on-demand services to be available to landlords at a fraction of traditional fees. “In Cape Town, every single landlord who was offered these services has chosen them over the current traditional alternatives.”
New hotel added to a leading residential estate

earl Valley Hotel by Mantis, found in the Cape Winelands, has opened its doors. ena le Roux, owner, Health Nook, an online health food store and holistic nutritional and lifestyle consultation service, started her home business in Muckleneuk in October last year. Q: How did your business start? A: Since a young age, I’ve been interested in being healthy. At first, I thought that healthy meant being fit. I became anxious, I didn’t sleep well, was chronically tired and a lot of joy was stolen from my life while trying to get that perfect body. I soon realised that a lot of women (and men) were struggling with the same challenges. Through my own journey in search of health and joy, and after years of research and studying, I finally put together a structure to assist people in finding out what being healthy means to them. I wanted to share my passion with others and Health Nook was born. Q: Why did you choose this area to set up shop? A: I realised that my clients also needed guidance in terms of what food to buy and where to buy it from. I wanted to make it as convenient and easy as possible to help them on an ongoing basis, delivering preservative and sugar free, clean, whole foods to their doorsteps on a weekly basis. Working from home has always been a dream for me and Muckleneuk is centrally located making it easy to reach my clients. Q: How did you find your premises? A: A s I’ve always dreamt of working from home, it was a no-brainer.
Q: Why are the premises ideally suited to your business? A: It’s ideal as I run around quite a bit between clients and suppliers. It would therefore be a waste renting an office space which I wouldn’t be using all the time. Q: Who are your neighbours? A: My neighbours are residential property owners. Q: What are the shop rental/ sales prices like in this area? A: T he prices of homes in the area are quite steep, but more affordable than homes east of Pretoria. Q: How many people go through your store each day? A: I started supplying healthy, frozen ready meals (available through my online shop) to the retail market. The meals are stocked by Wellness Warehouse stores and other health shops in Joburg and Pretoria. We supply quite a number of meals per week and do regular holistic consultations reaching a generous number of clients weekly. Q: Do you have any expansion plans? A: I would love to be able to provide clients with a one-stop destination for all their holistic health needs – consultations, a relaxing environment, yoga and fun exercise classes, delicious food, a restoring natural environment, accommodation for a break-away, etc.
