YoursElegantly The Making Of Pashmina Shawls Pashmina product is an indigenous and unique product of Kashmir region of India, Nepal and some parts of Tibet. Pashmina shawls are made from the wool that is sheared off of the mountain goats, found in the Himalayas. These regions are as high as 12000 to 14000 feet above the level of sea. The skins of these goats are majorly gray, black, white and cream in colour.

It includes the following steps: 1. Collection of the underfur of the Himalayan mountain goat which is automatically shed.

The Pashm wool from the Goat is collected in spring. Thereafter, the extremely fine pashmina is extracted from the rough coarse hair. 2. Spinning: Before spinning, the material is processed by stretching and cleaning for dirt removal. The collected wool is spun by hand on a spinning wheel. Spinning is a very laborious task. It needs tremendous patience and delicacy. It is also an absolute treat to watch. 3. Weaving: Owing to the extreme fragility of the fabric, pashmina fibers cannot be woven on power looms. They are done on handlooms. The weaver needs to have a great skill set. Weaving is done in a shuttle carrying the soft Pashmina Shawl yarn via a sturdy silk warp. The Weaving of a single pashmina shawl takes about 4 days. 4. Fringing and Designing: Pashmina shawls have magnificent fringes and elegant designs. The making of these is a very interesting step. As the fringing and designing process is subject to the artistic

process, it can take hours. 5. Dyeing: Dyeing is also done manually. This is done by experts who possess tremendous patience and have a vast experience in dyeing. The dyes that are azo free are the only ones to be used, making it ecofriendly. It is conducted at a temperature just below the boiling point for about an hour. The wool being remarkably absorbent, dyes easily. Thus, each step involved in the making of Pashmina scarf Shawls is a very artistic thing.
