Worried about rain on your wedding day? Relax. These gorgeous photos prove it’s nothing to sweat.

Cast your minds back to the 90s with Alanis Morrisette bemoaning “rain on your wedding day.” Yet despite what the songstress says, far from being ironic - or at least pretty unfortunate - rain on your wedding day is not the catastrophe you might believe. In fact, it’s actually considered good luck. The sceptics among us might think that was just something invented to calm down anxious couples but according to Hindu tradition if you “tie the knot” on a rainy day your marriage will last in the same way it’s hard to unravel a wet knot. Now isn’t that a sentiment worth remembering when rain (or snow) clouds threaten your wedding day?

And inclement weather doesn’t just signify good luck. It makes for some pretty awesome photos too. Don’t believe us? Just check out these beauties… “Outdoor January wedding in the snow with a sleeveless dress? No problem for Amanda and Andrew! Embracing the elements of a truly Scottish wedding, American Amanda went all in! We even went to the top of Cairn o’ Mount in a snow blizzard to capture some amazing snowy portraits of the two of them. Worth it!” Emma, Emma Lawson Photography

“This image was taken at about 8pm, just before the first dance. It had been howling wind, rain and snow (not the nice fluffy kind, the wet soggy kind) all day, and sadly, going out for photos was proving very difficult. However, later on, the wind calmed down and I went to get something out of my car and noticed these cool warm floodlights on an old warehouse at the back of the car park. I realised if I put my camera low to the ground, the lights from the warehouse reflecting off the wet ground created this cool fiery effect. All I had to do was ask my amazing couple Laura and Dan to stand in the middle and get something cool and unique for them. I couldn’t have gotten this image if it hadn’t been a wet day.” Ross, Ross Alexander Photography

“Kate and Campbell decided to postpone their big wedding celebration like many couples due to the pandemic. However, they couldn’t wait to be husband and wife so decided to elope, just the two of them in Skye. On the way to their chosen spot for the ceremony, it was absolutely tipping it down! However, the sun appeared for a wee bit while they said their vows. Shortly afterward they could see the weather coming back in again and this stunning shot was captured by their incredible photographer Andrew Rae. You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain!” Cat Duthie of Fin Flükra Photo by Andrew Rae Photographer

“A windy day in the Glasgow University cloisters can make for some epic candid moments as seen at Caroline and Garry’s wedding here. Some veils have a mind of their own but they sure are entertaining!” Lauren, Lauren Stirling Photography “Even when it’s blowing a hoolie and spitting with rain, you can just cling onto each other for dear life and it’ll still look super romantic. Case in point is Kate and Jen battling the elements but still looking super cool!” Sarah, Fotomaki Photography

“When Linda and John got married the weather was very chilly and raining but we got lucky when that rain turned to snow! These two were certainly brave getting out there in that weather.” Scott and Chantal, The Gibsons “I’m not so secretly glad it was raining on Hannah and Andrew’s wedding day, because look at how romantic these pictures are. The cherry blossoms were out in force and I’m so happy we managed to capture these whimsical moments which perfectly matched their woodland theme. I bring my clear dome umbrellas to every wedding just in case the opportunity arises!” Danielle, Danielle Lesley Photography
