Brides Debbie and Sophie share all the final planning and dress details with us
Debbie & Andrew
Debbie and her fiancé Andrew got married on 2nd April in Edinburgh’s iconic Balmoral Hotel
Debbie and Andrew have been sharing their planning adventure with us from telling us how they found their perfect venue, to Debbie’s dress and all the beautiful décor they planned. We caught up with Debbie in the final stages of preparation…
We’re both super excited and can’t wait to celebrate with all our friends and family,” she said. “My only nerves are that I’ll be emotional on the day and Andrew will be late! Initially I was scared Covid restrictions would be put on again, but fingers crossed that all seems fine!”
Although they were in the final stages of planning when we spoke, that didn’t mean the to-do list was light. Debbie had been to see her own dress when it arrived in the boutique – “I was nervous I wouldn’t like it and that it would be too big for me but I still love it.” Favours also still had to be sorted and they were in the midst of finalising their honeymoon to Mexico, but ever the planner, Debbie wasn’t one to delegate. “Haha, I’m defo taking control,” she laughed. “I even ordered the favours for my hen do!” There were still be a few things to do but when we caught up they were at the stage of some really fun perks. To get her bridal beauty on point Debbie enjoyed a spa day and luxury facial at One Spa at the Sheraton recently before another spa day at The Balmoral with her mum and bridesmaids for facials and bubbly. The things brides have to do to get wedding ready! The couple also went for their fabulous wedding menu tasting back in February, to fine-tune it all. “It was amazing!” said Debbie. “The venue really spoiled us! We had a private room overlooking Edinburgh Castle with a bottle of Champagne and both the wines we will be serving on the day.” Sounds like the perfect way to get excited for your wedding!

Sophie & Chris
Sophie and Chris tie the knot this August at Venacher Lochside
This couple got engaged last April and are all set for their intimate wedding by the water this summer. The big news this issue is Sophie’s found The One! This English bride may be travelling north of the border to marry, but she kept her dress shopping experience local, finding her beautiful Sincerity gown at Serenity Bridal in Colchester, Essex. “I was not expecting to walk away with a dress that day at all,” she smiles. “It’s actually the opposite of what I thought I was going to go for. It’s very plain and classic but the fit is gorgeous.”
In fact, Sophie admits she wouldn’t even have picked out her dress but was persuaded to try it on by her sister-in-law Jade. “It’s so funny because I literally looked at the dress and thought that’s not for me,” she says.
Sophie started dress shopping with a set idea of what she was looking for and ended up with something completely different. She thought she was going to be really fussy and find it hard to find a dress she’d love so scheduled to visit other boutiques too. “A previous store that I visited was lovely, but I just kept picking out little things about all the dresses that I would change.”
Stepping into Serenity she had zero expectations of finding her dress but was having a lovely time with her cousin Amanda, sister-in-law Jade and mother-in-law Mel. “I really didn’t think I would find it emotional when I found the one but we did all have a cry,” says Sophie. “Overall, it was a lovely and exciting experience. When I tried on the dress with a veil I definitely got a feeling of ‘Oh wow, I’m actually a bride!’”
As for the dress? This bride’s giving nothing away before the big day. She’s already bought the shoes and doesn’t think she’s going to wear much jewellery so the next task is deciding if she’s going for any sort of headwear.
Whatever she decides, Sophie is relishing wedding planning with Chris. “It’s actually so much fun and it’s nice that we’re doing it together so I don’t have to do it all on my own and be bridezilla!”
