We all know the nerves of starting a new job so spare a thought for Caroline McGlynn, Macdonald Houstoun House Hotel’s wedding co-ordinator. Caroline and her now husband’s wedding was cancelled due to Covid so she booked Houstoun House as a replacement, having never visited it before. Then a week later she applied for a job there as part of their wedding team. “During my interview I commented on how magical the place was and mentioned that I had actually blind-booked it for my own wedding,” she remembers. “The general manager then took me and my fiancé, who was waiting in the car, on a full show round, and we knew that we had made the right decision. BANNOCKBURN HOUSE

How do you fancy saying “I do” where Bonnie Prince Charlie once had his headquarters? Bannockburn House is a unique new wedding venue with a special place in history and it’s oozing with character. The A-listed 17th-century mansion set in its own 26-acre estate was a home for centuries until 1960, before falling into a state of disrepair. However, the local community took over in 2017 and as part of the overall masterplan, “Weddings at Bannockburn House” now offers couples the chance to marry somewhere totally unique. You could marry in the historic Laign Hall with it ornate ceiling, pose for photos in the romantic Charlie room and party in the Victorian extension.
