Precious THINGS
From engagement rings and wedding bands to special jewellery for the big day, some couples choose a bespoke service to add a personal touch to their pieces. Jennifer McLaren shares some of their stories.
Universal Appeal
Faith and Jason Smith tied the knot in the gorgeous setting of Castle Tioram and Eilean Shona House on Loch Moidart last August. You can read the full story of their wedding day on page 250.
Jason designed Faith’s engagement ring at the height of the pandemic when their jeweller was only operating online. The process with Blue Nile took six months and the end result was a platinum setting featuring an exquisite princess cut diamond centred on a channel set band of complementary stones.
Faith, meanwhile, planned the couple’s wedding bands. “Wanting to find something unique and lightweight, I found inspiration with some jewellery designers who work with meteorite,” she says. “After doing research on where to buy them, I was able to find someone who specialises in these types of rings and has a lot of experience working with meteorite.”
Faith’s ring is a simple band of grey meteorite inlaid in a band of platinum. Jason’s is a band of meteorite laid over a band of scotch oak barrel polished to a bright shine. We think their tale is simply out of this world!
