When Your Partner’s Ex is Also His Best Friend
W
hat a gwaan,
Let me start off by saying that how someone feels in this situation is highly based on context. As a result, I’m going to tread lightly here, as I have been the one on the hostile end of this situation. I have been that ex who is still a best friend. Hell!! I get grief for just being the female friend. Now ladies, as much as I would like to take your side with this, I have to tell you that some of you are straight up tripping. Sometimes you act so jealous and so insecure that you make the man start to wonder what it is about this girl (the best friend) that he might be missing. Surely you can’t be tripping for nothing. Now listen mi!! I’m not saying that shadiness doesn’t happen, oh yes it does. And it’s only human to feel somewhat left out on the inside jokes, the knowing stares; the deep stuff he/she might share with that ex. I mean, no one wants to feel like a third wheel in their own relationship. But, take it from someone who’s been that best friend... pissing me off is not the way to go. I’m not saying you should bow down and be afraid, because frankly I’d never hold this over anyone’s head. However, I do believe that a new partner should respect the history. Should respect that it takes time to build trust and being with someone for three to four months, cannot possibly equate to a four-year relationship. So yes, there are going to be things that he’s more comfortable speaking to me about.

discussion to take up with your man/woman, and if things don’t change then there’s a deeper decision to be made. But for the love of God, Please! Please! Please! Do not attack the friend! The onus is on your man/woman to set those boundaries. At the end of the day know this: they’re the ex! That was the past and you are the now. Be rationale because you might just push and end up really taking her place. Think About it... Faith and Love, Mamachel advertisment

What’s even funny is oftentimes he’s asking me for advice about you, so I reiterate, pissing me off ... not so smart an idea. I do believe that if you start feeling like the little sister who is tagging along, or if that ex is always around, then that is a

Great Tips for surviving Hard Times
O
nce upon a time, women could buy all the luxury items they wanted and still meet their regular daily needs. For many, that time is a distant memory. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that beautiful pair of diamond earrings will just have to continue staring at you through the shop window. It’s hard times and the evidence is everywhere. If you are feeling the pinch like millions of Jamaicans, here are great and easy tips that should have you spending less.
Budget, budget and then budget again. This will ensure that you know exactly what your needs are and meet them. Taking a shopping list to the supermarket, for example, will ensure that you don’t make unnecessary purchases. Never purchase anything that is not on your list, unless it’s something you need but forgot to add. If you have kids then you know that they love to have fun, so it wouldn’t be fair to totally delete all their fun activities from the family budget. What you can do instead is find low cost or free activities that they can participate in. For kids, it’s not about the money so that planned family cruise vacation isn’t necessary. You might want to review your luxury bills, which may include cable, telephone and internet plans. I’m sure it would be great to have the most comprehensive cable package or the fastest internet available, but is it necessary? Funds are low, so it won’t hurt to spend an extra 10 seconds waiting for a page to load while browsing the internet. The point: downgrade where possible. It is absolutely necessary to use your debit and credit cards wisely. Note that ATM charges can really add up if you visit regularly, not to mention the fact that what

you need the money for isn’t all that important. Just so you know, the extra visit to your hairdresser can wait, and it’s not necessary to use your credit card to purchase the new Blackberry Bold. Energy saving bulbs can go a long way in ensuring that you save, even a dollar, on energy costs. While they are more expensive than regular bulbs, they last significant longer and use less energy. When leaving home, you might also want to consider turning off or unplugging appliances that consume energy. Your microwave and cable box are good places to start.

I’m sure it would be great to have the most comprehensive cable package or the fastest internet available, but is it necessary? Your parents did this to you when you were younger, but now that you’ve gotten older you no longer think it’s necessary. Well, taking your lunch to work can save you money. You don’t have to spend excessively on fast food, when you can pack a compact lunch that provides a balanced meal. This is especially relevant if you work in the vicinity of expensive restaurants.
