Editor’s Note
Howdy readers, coffee is seemingly growing among Jamaicans as a preferred drink outside of morning time. This week we share that Ritual along with a special contribution from Shields and Shields. Hope you all have a safe and happy Easter Weekend. And remember if you drink don’t drive and also if you are going out of town this weekend, keep in mind speeding kills.

Kingston’s newest coffee house and hot spot.“While we are a coffee house, there is so much more to Rituals, we have over 15 different flavours of tea, 5 different Chai teas, bagel, wraps, pastries, shakes, our famous Chillers which you may add your desired flavored of coffee to and our signature Flatini sandwich which you can find no place else besides Rituals Coffee House”, she laughed. The Trinidadian franchise has been a big hit since it opened its doors to people of multiple socio-economic backgrounds and is defiantly changing the way we drink coffee. “You would be surprised to see who comes here, regular people who happened to be on the plaza shopping, high school students and sometimes a entire family” explains the Operations Manager who says that coffee has to be served hot and in a mug, which you drink to start you day, Rituals takes you beyond that as everything may be personalized to satisfy the individual”

he growth of coffee shops and cafés in Jamaica has grown steadily of late as more and more eager customers flock to indulge in the blossoming trend. There is no doubt that Jamaica’s coffee is considered one of the finest in the world and as such has been a huge foreign exchange earner through export to many countries worldwide. Fast forward to 2010 and not only are we exporting the stuff but coffee drinking has become quite the statement on The Rock. It may seem strange that the phenomenon that has made Starbucks a household name hasn’t quite taken off in Jamaica since the coffee that we produce is considered premium elsewhere. Maybe it’s a case of a prophet not being recognized in his hometown. To help analyze the situation, Your Style caught up with the busy bee, Samantha Phillipson, Operations Manager of Ritual Coffee House

Samantha admits that she is no Marketing Expert, but from her observation coffee drinkers were always in Jamaica. She believes that not everybody is going to drink coffee the way you think. Hence they offer it cold, blended in cups or perhaps with whip cream in a atmosphere that is second to none, warm, cozy accessible and convenient. “There is variety of ways to drink coffee and Jamaica is definitely catching on” says Ms. Phillipson. You could never tell that the franchise was born in Trinidad; everything from the coffee supple to the artwork hanging on the walls for sale is uniquely Jamaican. “Our service is nothing short of what a Starbuck has to offer and yes we have the Wi-Fi”, she shared with us,

”globalization and exposure has shrunken the world and therefore consumers are always demanding something new and fresh.” In case you’re not sure what to order, Samantha and her friendly team will make a good recommendation. So the next time you happen to be in the Half-Way Tree area or even out west in Montego Bay, take a stroll into Rituals and find out that the buzz may be not only be from the caffeine.

he ancient Greeks would seek the blessing of the goddess Demeter to aid in their agricultural efforts. For us modern day home agriculturists who do not have this luxury, Shields and Shields has provided some tips for us that should see even the least agriculturally inclined among us acting like green thumbs in no time.
1
Choose an area with the correct sunlight for the plants you plan to grow. (Good drainage and soil such as sandy loam is recommended).
2
Prepare the area well, tilling deeply incorporating organic matter such as animal manure and/or professional soil mixes. This is one of the most important factors, as the old adage says “Spend $10 on the soil and $1 on the plant). You have only one chance to prepare adequately before planting.
3
Incorporating a slow release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote, Mul ticote or Nutricote) is also helpful. This supplies plant nutrients daily over a 3-6 months period.

prepared location. Choose healthy plants preferable those grown in professional mixes free of soil borne insects, seeds, weeds and diseases.
6
Planting: Space plants according to their requirements as overcrowding promote insects and diseases. Never plant too deeply. The best rule of thumb is to keep soil level in the pots purchased just above the soil in the final bed.
7
Initial plant care is necessary to build good plants. Be sure to water adequately especially during the early stages. Water again once soil starts drying. Overwatering is a plant’s worse enemy.

As your plants grow, look out for insects and diseases. There are now many good broad spectrum fungicide and insecticide sprays. Also, pruning helps to build a well shaped plant. Remove dead or diseased sections.

Mirror Mirror on The Wall: A View From Mars

ow you’ve got to ask yourself this question, if you were to get hit by a car, would you want it to be a Benz or a Lada? If you’re going to be put in prison, would you want it to be for a misdemeanor or a felony? Then in the same breath, if you know your significant other is leaving you for someone else, would you want it to be for someone better looking or uglier? Mars seems to have a somewhat different outlook on this entire situation, that I’m sure Venus will have choice words for. Whereas the female may be concerned with questions like “Is she prettier that me” or “Does she have a better body?” men seem to really only be concerned with one key issue… “Is he better than me in the sack”? This may stem from the fact that the male ego doesn’t permit us to see another male as better looking or better built, but our animalistic instinct would always like to know that you were a better lover.
1) Is she prettier than me? 2) Did she have a bigger butt? 3) Does she have bigger breast? 4) Are you still attracted to her? In the end it’s only wise to remember that no two people are alike in appearance, and attraction is something that doesn’t only stem from a physical perspective. But if you can keep your lady happy in the sack, there will be a lot less breakups and a whole lot more make up sex! Faith & Love, Mamchel http://mamachel.blogspot.com

In the end it all comes down to sex. Think about it ladies, has your new love interest asked you any of the following questions pertaining to your ex boyfriend– 1) Does he have a bigger penis than me? 2) Did he always make you have an orgasm? 3) What positions did you guys do? 4) What did he do that you didn’t like? But gentlemen, how many times have you heard
