Dressing for Your Body Shape W

hen you don’t knowwhat kind of body shape you have, knowing what kinds of clothes suit your body shape seems an insurmountable concept to master. This frustration can build and lead to lower confidence in the dressing room and, consequently, in your daily life. It’s frustrating when you feel like you can’t or don’t know how to select the right clothes and after you’ve settled on whatever it is that you end up buying, you can later feel awkward knowing that it doesn’t quite fit or look right, but what’s a girl to do when they don’t even know where to start? Read on… These 3 simple tips are sure to lead you I the right direction to not only understanding your body shape better, but also to knowing what kinds of clothes will work for you and giving you that much-needed confidence boost to be able to choose and wear your clothes with confidence. 1. Get to know your BODY SHAPE. There are many kinds of body shapes out there – some websites list 3 or 4 of them, others list 8-10 or more! It can be very confusing to figure out where you fit and why you fall under that body type. The Shop Your Shape website lists 8 basic shapes with details on each of them. Each shape has specific features and you can either measure or eyeball your body to figure out which one you fall under. Knowing which body shape you have is the first step to becoming more clothes-confident in your shopping endeavours. Knowing the intricacies of your body shape will help you learn which areas of your body should be accentuated by the clothiwng you choose and which areas you might want to divert attention from – this is not to enhance beauty – your beauty has nothing to do with this. This is purely to boost your confidence – how you feel in the clothing you choose. You’ll stand up a little straighter knowing your clothes are a good match for your body and that everything is where it should be! 2. Get to know CLOTHING STYLES that suit your shape. After you’re confident that you know your body shape and which areas you want to draw attention to and away from, you need to take a crash course in clothes. Both the Shop Your Shape and The Real Simple websites provide a great list of kinds of clothes

you can wear to suit various body shapes. They even go so far as to list by kinds of clothing – which tops, bottoms, dresses, etc. suit your shape best. They’ll even give you a heads-up about which styles of clothes will best aid in drawing or diverting attention to certain areas of your body. 3. Once you know your shape and you know your clothes, it’s time to PLAY. EXPERIMENT. Leave your cash and credit cards at home and hit the mall and explore the various shops. Feel confident – you know what you’re looking for and you can also use the various sales associates to help steer you in the right direction. They need not know that you’re not actually buying today. These “explore and experiment” sessions are designed to help you build up your clothes-confidence and allow you to try on clothes that you might not have ever considered for yourself. You don’t have bring a friend or even leave the change room if you don’t want to, this is all about you. Go to high-end clothes shops and shops that are in your price-range – try on everything! Once you know which pieces you feel truly good in, you can make a list of your favourite kinds and colors of clothes as well as which stores should be on your “hit list” so you remember to check them out first when your wardrobe needs a boost. eveloping bare-body confidence in yourself is essentially why boudoir photographers exist. Julia Vie at Vivian’s Muse has made it her life’s mission to empower the women she coaches and photographs so they might feel stronger and sexier than ever before. But how is a woman supposed to take that first step towards accepting her nude body for what it is? Why should she bother? The answer to these questions is threefold. WHO? Who should consider taking steps to becoming comfortable with their own nudity? The answer is simple: Anyone. Everyone. Your body is yours and was built that way it was just for you. It’s yours to care for, adjust, behold and share at your discretion. HOW? How do you become more comfortable in your own skin? • STOP COMPARING. Your body will NEVER look like anyone else’s. It’s yours and yours alone. It was meant for you and by comparing it to someone else’s, you’re doing yourself a disservice. • DON’T USE NEGATIVE WORDS. Beating yourself (or heaven forbid, someone else!) down by using body-degrading words is incredibly damaging. Hearing them directed at you is just as terrible. Negativity breeds negativity and you will soon start to feel “fat” if you keep telling yourself you are. If you’re so hell-bent on making a change, use POSITIVE words and inspire good health by role modelling. • PRACTICE!! Get comfortable in your own skin when nobody is looking! Don’t be afraid of a full-length mirror! Getting to know your whole body will help lower your anxiety and build up your bare-body confidence. Once your body becomes “normal” to you, it will be easier to focus on the positive aspects of it and open you up to the possibility of sharing it with others. • EXPLORE. We automatically feel vulnerable when we’re nude, but exploring ways to make adjust yourself or your environment so you can feel strong and confident while nude with your partner will help you realize that it’s truly not about how you look, but rather about the closeness of the moment and the Vivian’s Muse

long-term connections being nourished. WHY? Why is any of this important? Why should be even bother to build bare-body confidence? What is gained? • CONFIDENCE. Plain and simply put, by throwing out the negativity and exploring and sharing your body, you will build a personal confidence in yourself that will run deeper than you ever could have imagined. You’ll also be building your relational confidence - how you relate physically and sexually to your current or future partner is an enormous part of those relationships. By building up your bare-body confidence now, you’ll be setting yourself up for a proud, confident future regardless of your relationship status. • SATISFACTION. It would be great to always be 100% pleased with what we see in the mirror each day - it’s human nature to be hard on ourselves, but by throwing out the negativity and focusing on all the good your body allows you to feel, you can begin to feel truly satisfied with the body you’ve been given. • KNOWLEDGE. Taking time to get to know your body means you will be the #1 expert on your body. You’ll know what it likes, dislikes, how it feels, and how to make it feel even better. • INTIMACY. Your ability to be confident and satisfied during intimate moments means your partner will also feel confident and satisfied that they’re meeting your needs and if their bare-body confidence is as high as yours, then they’ll feel just as fantastic as you! Taking the steps toward full bare-body confidence can be daunting. hen self-esteem isw low, we tend to build up walls around ourselves. We shut people out and worst of all, we shut ourselves out. The ability to love yourself is a near-impossible concept to someone with low self-esteem. Walls are built out of self-preservation - keep others out and you can’t be hurt by their words and actions. Walls also protect by helping avoid conflicts and confrontation – keep yourself in, and you can’t be hurt. In order to move forward, these walls need to be broken down so that confidence can be built up. Take control of your environment. Surround yourself with uplifting people and places. You want supportive friends around you – people who will encourage you to be more than you think you can be and lift you up when things go wrong. Modify special spaces in your home to make them more comfortable, brighter and more inviting – your home needs to be a sanctuary; a refuge; a place where you can unwind and feel at peace. Your special spaces need to act as scaffolding in the journey towards building up your self-esteem. Something as simple as a fresh, new color on the wall or a vase full of fresh flowers can do wonders in spicing up a living space. Restore and expand your focus in life. Get out and try new things! Helping others is a fantastic way to build up confidence in yourself – you feel the satisfaction of reaching out and helping someone else achieve something and in turn, it builds up your own satisfaction in yourself. Explore your own interests and find something you’re passionate about – becoming good at something helps you feel worthy of praise and respected. Shifting your life’s goals and working towards them is an important part of becoming confident in yourself. Allow yourself to change. Give yourself permission to expand your physical, mental and spiritual health and well-being. Physical activity has numerous restorative properties – aside from the obvious, a healthier body, the endorphins released when we exercise gives us a jolt of energy, enthusiasm and general zest for living. Our minds also need exercising. Taking a new course, reading, trying new activities – these are all great ways to boost your mental health. Spiritual health is also important. Depending on any religious beliefs you may hold to or other rituals of a spiritual nature, exploring and expanding your knowledge and

Seize the opportunity to be happy. No matter what your former self has allowed you to believe, you deserve happiness. Find a mantra that speaks to you and live by it – whether it’s “live every day to its fullest” or “seize the day” or perhaps something you make up your own. Any way you look at it, you deserve to be happy and making positive changes to various areas in your life can help set you on the path towards higher self-esteem and a happier life. Perhaps you’ve heard it said that you have to make a bigger mess before things start to look clean again. Take control. Break down the walls around you so you can begin to build up confidence in yourself.
