Noordrand - Welfare spaces ACADEMIC WORK URBANISM MASTERS BRUSSELS - BELGIUM
The Context The Noordrand is an area with on the one hand very highly dynamic activities, large-scale infrastructures and highquality employment pole, and on the other hand rich typical landscapes and old village nucleous. It is a territory with different spatial structures and sometimes contradictory characters. As such, it a complex urban landscape, ressembling a puzzle that ressembles non identical patches in appearance, but that in reality reveals a underlying friction. The area has both provincial and metropolitan character traits and both identities represent threats of segregation, but also opportunities to work together as a whole at the same time. The territory shows a diffuse prensence of public facilities (schools, hospitals, parks, playgrounds and sports). The distribution shows a random pattern. Physical, social, economic and symbolic spaces that surround the spaces of welfare should be hospitable, accessible, and able to contribute to the collective services and equipments. The green fragments representing open spaces form a sort of barrier to adhere to this idea of using the structure of existing spaces and collective equipments together.
The project The welfare spaces are clustered between road infrastructures that play the role of both a structuring connexion and a barrier. The mobility infrastructures have in fact insured fractures in this territory. However, there are some existing interior paths within the three supposed clusters. Nonetheless, they do not work together, interrupted by frequent gaps or simply lacking visibility and accessibility. The territory is characterized by an urban structure potentially capable of guaranteeing a level of urban welfare that is tied not only to the presence of individual facilities connected to specific needs but also to a real system of space and pathway. Therefore, the relevance of this proposal remains in subscribing to the current dynamics and especially making them readable and comprehensible within the collective identity of the place, by working on the collective builidings and spaces, and connecting paths and open spaces.

Phase 1 : Connexions within
Recovering existing vertical paths, linking their fragments and initiating the possibility of their extension through the big infrastructures, through soft interventions (plaAnts, lights, revealing entries)
Developping the horizontal paths hooked to the previously recovered vertical ones to strengthen the mesh links inside the ÂŤclustersÂť.
Phase 2 : Territorial connexion
Extending the paths through the infrastructures through pedestrian lanes, bridges to reach out to the multiple mobility networks in the avenues. Intersection are refurbished as metropolitan stations.
Itensifiying the welfare, linking with open space. Some areas are to be reaffected. The possibility of mutualizing space is possible.
E-waste management center ACADEMIC WORK ARCHITECTURE MASTERS BRUSSELS - BELGIUM
The Context The project focuses on urban metabolism and circular economy in city planning, by defining a smart programming with circular applications that would allow the city to have an added value relating to themes such as energy and material. The site is an ancient unused factory, located in between the river Zenne and the Canal, covering an area of 2,1Ha. Due to the existing activities in Broek, this spot is an interesting opportunity to host an economic activity related to e-waste collecting and recycling, especially since it is close Brussels, Leuven and Antwerp. It is a very strategic place transport wise: it is linked to water and road network. Moreover, these two assets could be used in favor of a more public friendly and social space in relation with the recycling center, with the intention of bringing together people and industry and raising awareness on the issue of waste management, in particular the electronics.
The Concept The project aims to activate the area both economically and socially by creating a multifunctional center revolving around e-waste management, in relation with the existing waste infrastructures and actors and exploiting the available ressources. Materials that are recovered for reuse include cold, heavy metals, mixed plastics and glass from screens. In Vilvorde, some companies are already active in specialized recycling. Hence, the idea is to work in collaboration with these existing facilities, to enhance and improve the efficiency of the e-waste management. The idea is to establish a mixed (cultural, research and industial) center, reflecting the vision of Vilvoorde of preservation of the environment and aiming to raise awareness. The objective is to shape a new identity for Broek and eliminate the toxic landfills.

A journey starting from the outside space to attract the community to visit the project, therefore connecting the inner and outer space to attract the people and give them a glimpse of what they could see in the project. The benches invite the visitor to a path of discovery , in which he walks through recycling plant having a glimpse through the transparent partitions, to raise the sense of exploration. They end up in the workshop area, in which the are invited to interact, learn and create, and then to the museum in which e-arts are exposed and finally to the store.
Ouest Station ACADEMIC WORK ARCHITECTURE MASTERS BRUSSELS - BELGIUM
The project An urban planning of the area of the West station located in Molenbeek. The analysis allowed us to realize the difference between the west side which is very empty and the east side which is dense and populated. We were particularly interested in the details and moments of life of the neighborhood. Every place where people used public space attracted our attention and allowed us to see that beyond the prejudices in the municipality of Molenbeek we are in a neighborhood where people like the place where they live and try to improve its image. Although seen from a distance, this community may seem sad and gray or sometimes dangerous. Its inhabitants hide a big heart and a love of their place of life and it is these moments and details that made us want to create new spaces to allow the Birth of new moments.
A steel structure was created as a main part of the wasteland. The function of the modules that fulfill the structure is above all to provide versatile spaces, including kitchen gardens, kiosks, cafeterias, bars, urban furniture, etc. The structure as an industrial walk is meant to welcome and gather the public.
Evolving habitat ACADEMIC WORK ARCHITECTURE MASTERS RABAT - MOROCCO
The Context The model of economic habitat adopted in Morocco is not really flexible if not at all, and the project suggests an alternative to this situation. The idea is to conceive habitat that can evolve and adapt to the users needs, as they change through time. The project is located in a popular neighborhood in Temara, a city nearby Rabat, composed almost exclusively of habitat to take off the pressure of the high density in Rabat and provide shelter to a rather modest social class. The neighborhood is dense in constructions, mainly housins leaving very little space to public and green spaces.
The Project The project would be the breathing lungs of the nieghborhood, providing a new element and identity. The motorized flow is outbound to the exterior of the plot. A pedestrian band around the plots insures the smooth transition between public and semi-private zones. A central axis, pedestrian lanes, as the branch of a tree, inspired by the networks of the ancient medina, insure the connexion between the houses and the surrounding environment. a Drawning this project in a natural environment is a contextual choice. Temara known for its green belt. And yet, the human-nature link is none existent. The project is to recreacte this link awhile assuring the economical aspect that the “economic habitat aspires to.
Intimacy : Motorized circulation and parking are removed to the exterior of the bloc.
Transition : Between public and semi-private space through a belt of pedestrian circulation, leading to the central axis and open shared spaces of playfields.
Connexion : Passages extending as branches, inspired by the ancient medina networks insuring transition from semi-private to private spaces.
Well Being : The project is immerged in nature, allowing the pedestrians to adopt the space and use it not only as a pleasant passage space but as a recration zone as well.

The concept The concept is to work in mass with a minimum of openings without giving the impression that the building is introverted. Workin in mass gives the building the appearance of a sculpture with an interesting play of lights. Spreading horizontally rather than vertically allows easy integration into the surrounding landscape.

Ewaste management center ACADEMIC WORK ARCHITECTURE MASTERS RABAT - MOROCCO
The Project connects the boulevard to the rest of the neighborhoods by creating a large diagonal axis that pierces the block and divides it into two. This axis acts as a pedestrian crossing and a public square.
Dividing the plot in half requires two independent buildings with a semi circular shape inside the block to give a welcoming appearance to the public square on both sides and identify the visual field of pedestrians.
Develop gardens in the terraces of the two buildings accessible by bleachers on the avenue Abderahim Bouabid side.
Add blocks above to compensate for the low height of half circular buildings.

MÉDIATHÈQUE ACADEMIC WORK - 3RD YEAR RABAT - MOROCCO
The project
The project is located in Rabat, along the Avenue de la Victoire, one of the widest boulevards in the city. The site faces one of Rabat’s most important gates Bab Rouah. Probably the most famous of the monumental gates of Rabat means, it surprises by the richness of its decoration. It was the only gateway to Rabat, by land. Located at the end of the old avenue de la Victoire, it became a magnificent gallery of contemporary art in 1960. The site is also closeby the Bibliothèque Nationale du Royaume du Maroc (BNRM), a national public and cultural institution. In a desire to stand out from the imposing enclosure and the BNRM, the architecture of the multimedia library wants to be modern by
its non-regular volumetry as much in plan, section and facade as by its outer metal coating that contrasts sharply with the tonality of Bab Rouah. This does not prevent the media library visually communicating with Bab Rouah in a process of contemplation of the past. Architecturally speaking, this dialogue takes place through bleachers that articulate the space of the mediatheque of which the ancient wall draws the horizon. Thus the building imposes itself strongly by its appearance in a fundamentaly historical setting, inviting the neighborhood to emerge from the shadows of Bab Rouah to push the tops towards the future.
