T O DAY ’S L E S S O N PR AYER Begin by praying something like, ‘God, please help us to see that Jesus was the long-awaited Saviour King. Give us confidence that we can trust what we read in the Bible and show us what it means for our lives today. Amen’.

RECAP

PL E

Ask the students what they remember from last week’s lesson. Perhaps you could provide a reward for the first student who reminds the class of the big idea— Christians believe that God revealed himself to us in the historical man, Jesus of Nazareth.

ACTIVITY: WHAT’S IN A NAME?

M

Begin the class by reading out a series of names and asking the students to guess their meaning. To make the activity more enjoyable, you might like to consider giving a small reward such as a lolly to each student who guesses correctly.

SA

The game will work most successfully if you choose the names of students in your class. This will require some preparation but it is not difficult. One of the many places you can find this information is www.meaning-of-names.com Here’s a few to get you started: • • • • • • • •

Timothy—one who honours God Scott—from Scotland David—beloved or friend Nathan—gift of God Emma—whole Sarah—princess Katherine—pure Amy—beloved

DISCUSSION Facilitate a class discussion on the question of whether one’s name has any influence on the kind of person they become. After you have given the students an opportunity to share their own thoughts, you may like to conclude the discussion with the question and answer below. 14
