WHY SRE?
TOP5 REASONS TO CONSIDER CHRISTIAN SRE
WHAT
IS CHRISTIAN SRE? Christian SRE is for students whose parents identify with Christianity or want them to learn about it from the Bible. SRE teaches core beliefs from a faith perspective, using curriculum developed by approved providers in consultation with the NSW Department of Education. The SRE classroom is a safe place for students to explore their faith heritage and its relevance for their lives today. Whether or not you consider yourself a religious person, there are good reasons to enrol your child in Christian SRE.
WHY
CONSIDER SRE?
nurture spiritual wellbeing 1To
Educators recognise spiritual wellbeing plays an important role in successful learning. Christian SRE will nurture your child’s sense of meaning and purpose, and promote positive connections with faith and community.
answer searching questions 2 To
‘What is God like?’, ‘Who wrote the Bible?’ Your child’s searching questions require wise and sensitive answers. Christian SRE teachers are trained to encourage every child’s natural curiosity and respond appropriately from a biblical perspective.
help shape personal values 3 To
SRE can be invaluable in helping shape your child’s values. Christian SRE offers a biblical worldview that teaches traditional ethics and values, and fosters genuine tolerance towards those with a different faith heritage.
broaden your child’s education 4 To
Christian SRE will help your child appreciate the impact of Christianity upon Western culture. Our legal system, literature, art, music, and even our language have all been influenced by Christianity. The idea of someone being a ‘Good Samaritan’ only has meaning in the context of its biblical heritage.
provide extra pastoral care for students and families 5 To Life can sometimes be very challenging for students and families. Christian SRE provides an avenue for families to connect with the local faith community and networks of support.
FAQS How can I know what my child is being taught? Anglican Youthworks is one of the approved SRE providers in NSW and a publisher of curriculum: Connect for primary SRE, and Think Faith for high school. Lessons have been developed by professional educators and each lesson encourages students to engage with the Bible, ask deep questions, and form their own opinions and beliefs. Visit WHYSRE.COM.AU to see our curriculum overview and sample lessons, or contact your school to be put in touch with an SRE provider.
How do I know SRE teachers are qualified and screened? All SRE teachers in NSW must have: • Completed a Working With Children Check, • Been screened against the Education Department’s Do Not Employ Register, • Undertaken child protection training. Further, Anglican SRE teachers across Sydney, and many areas beyond, are also required to complete five modules of Accreditation training by Anglican Youthworks, including lesson delivery and classroom management. Teachers are trained to respect the opinions of students, and to encourage questions and discussion. No students are pressured to change their beliefs.
