BUTTERFLY HOUSE
VPET July saw the grand re-opening of Victoria Park Butterfly House.
Whilst the house has been closed, their group of volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes creating a beautiful community garden and hosting a series of events using their community space, in the glasshouse attached to the butterfly house.
Oskar, Kirby and Ruby from the Serial Culture team, took a trip down to the Butterfly House to meet artist Sarah GallagherHayes, who has been hosting a series of bamboo modelling workshops and have a go of making something themselves.

They started with a small weaving bamboo piece and they progressed to a giant structure taking up a huge section of the community garden.

“Having the opportunity to witness the new butterflies was amazing - they were beautiful and seeing them so close up felt very special.”-Oskar
“Building bamboo structures was completely new to me, but was extremely fun despite challenges in getting the hang of the technique at first.”-Oskar

The zine team then got a sneak peek behind the scenes at the butterflies as they started to emerge, pupae wriggling around.
