Synopsis
O
liver Twist is a young boy who lives in a workhouse for orphaned boys. The orphans are starving so Oliver bravely asks for extra food but gets more than he bargained for: he is sold to an undertaker for his troubles. Here Oliver is treated badly and, after a heated argument, he gets shut in a coffin. Oliver ends up running away and is befriended by the Artful Dodger who introduces him to a kind, yet sinister, gentleman named Fagin, his band of orphans, a kindly person named Nancy and the art of pick-pocketing. Unfortunately, Oliver doesn’t do so well with pick-pocketing and gets caught by the police on his very first job. Mr Brownlow, Oliver’s victim, learns of his sad past and takes pity on him, offering him a bed in his own home. Meanwhile, the villainous Bill Sykes worries that Oliver will tell Mr Brownlow where the thieves live and forces Nancy and her friend, Bet, to kidnap Oliver and return him to Fagin’s. Nancy has to obey Sykes but doesn’t always agree with him so plans to secretly return Oliver to Mr Brownlow. Before she is able to carry out her plan, however, Sykes finds out about it and murders her. He then goes after Oliver, but is shot and killed. The play ends with Oliver discovering that Mr Brownlow is actually his grandfather and with the two of them returning home together.

Cast Biographies
tepping into the limelight in his first year at YJB, James takes on the lead role of our young hero, Oliver Twist. A keen performer and sports person, James is equally at home on stage or on the field as his love of rugby means that he is a rising star of the Llandudno youth rugby team. Thrilled to be taking on this part, James also enjoys making his mum proud! Whether it’ll be the Millennium Stadium or London’s West End – James is keeping an open mind as to his eventual future prospects – who could ask for more?!
L
auren’s first year in a YJB musical sees her playing loveable rogue, the Artful Dodger. Her natural quick wit was a perfect match as Fagin’s brightest pupil and mentor to young Oliver as he negotiates the perils of the London underworld. Lauren has risen through the ranks of Ysgol San Sior’s acting elite starring in many a Christmas show before stepping onto the big stage as a musical theatre debutante.

athew is a true veteran of YJB musicals and has been involved in every show since Kiss Me Kate. Now in his final year, Mathew takes on the role made famous in the film version of the musical by another great Welshman – Harry Secombe! Mathew has no comedy ambitions however and is aiming instead to have a career as a concert pianist, after studying music at university. Mr Bumble Mathew Williams

harlotte’s love of singing is no secret! Her talent has seen her perform in numerous shows with school and the Llandudno Youth Musical Theatre, as well as achieving success at the Urdd Eisteddfod. Currently working hard for her GCSEs, Charlotte is aiming to study English and Music at A level before eventually auditioning for a place at the Widow Corney/M rs Bumble extremely prestigious Royal Northern College of Music. Black Fagin - Ashley
shley comes relatively late to the world of Performing Arts. Having been a member of the backstage crew last year, he was so impressed by what he saw that he decided to audition for Oliver and landed the lead role of Fagin. For his inspiration he takes not only the great Ron Moody (who played Fagin in the film version of the musical) but also Captain Jack Sparrow! A huge fan of Toy Story, Ashley hopes his performance this evening will take you to infinity and beyond!
K
ate is no stranger to YJB musical productions but this is the first time that she has taken on a lead role. From her audition, which left few with dry eyes, to her performance this evening, Kate’s humility as a performer is her outstanding feature. Described as a ‘modest starlet’, Kate’s performance as mothersubstitute Nancy sees her showing why her future aspirations to eventually be part of the RSC are entirely within the compass of her attainment – you’ll see why she really can do anything!

livia finds it a real challenge to play a role which is virtually non-speaking – at least that’s what some of her friends reckon! This bright young performer is certainly enjoying a fine life, as this is her first show with YJB. A member of Llandudno Youth Musical Theatre, Olivia thoroughly enjoys her acting and singing and is currently trying to decide whether her future career will be in the realm of science or musical theatre!
radley is an extremely modest young person. He was headhunted for the role of Bill Sykes due to his ability to produce intense performances and his talent as a singer. He has recently auditioned to be a member of the National Youth Training Choir and he is looking forward to the privilege of singing with this renowned organisation. Bradley says his inspiration for the character of Sykes comes from a mixture Bill Sykes - Bradley Jone s of watching Eastenders and The Sweeney – sorted!

en returns to YJB productions to play undertaker Mr Sowerberry. A stalwart of many musicals, Ben gives another performance in a very different role, to demonstrate his range and repertoire.

ara brings an energy and enthusiasm to everything that she does. From achievements in the Urdd Eisteddfod and LAMDA examinations to her studies at A level, Sara is renowned amongst her peers for her sense of humour as well as inexhaustible optimism. Some have even likened her to a musical version of a bunny from a certain energy company’s battery advert! Taking on the role of the somewhat nasty Mrs Sowerberry gives Sara an additional challenge, as it’s playing completely opposite to type!

iamh is one of YJB’s up and coming performers. Her first appearance was in last year’s Little Shop of Horrors, but this year sees Niamh playing a principal role. She has that ‘certain sparkle’ and has impressed the producers with both her enthusiasm and willingness to work hard and always do her best. Charlotte - N

uke’s stage experience as one of the Siamese King’s children in Paul Kerryson’s national tour of Rodger and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’ last year, continued to cement Luke’s love of all things theatrical. Involved with acting for a few years now, Luke’s first YJB ke Hughes musical will certainly not be his last! Lu le po ay Cl h Noa
Cast Biographies L Mr Brownlow Liam Clair
iam shows this year his versatility and range as an actor by taking a polar opposite role from last year’s sadistic dentist in Little Shop of Horrors to the gentle and kindly figure of Mr Brownlow. Liam has thoroughly enjoyed the different challenges that the role has brought him this year. He hopes to be able to specialise in the study of modern foreign languages in the future and to use this talent to travel the world!
K
ayleigh’s role as the kindly Mrs Bedwin makes it five in five musicals for the talented young performer. An enthusiastic, committed and hard-working individual, Kayleigh has acted, sang and danced her way in shows for both YJB and LYMT. Keeping her options open for her future career prospects, Kayleigh aims to study A levels in Mrs Bedwin Drama, Business Studies, Economics and RE after her GCSEs. Kayleigh Hoe-Pik e

Dr Grimwig James Peacock
ames has been in every YJB musical since he was in year 7 but this is his first time in a lead role. A fan of classic progressive rock, including Ian Anderson’s Jethro Tull, James is a keen flautist and guitarist. He utilises his musical talents in the county orchestra as well as the school’s jazz band where he plays flute.
owri’s lead role in last year’s Little Shop of Horrors as the ill fated Audrey was very well received by all who saw her. This year she plays a character who is of pivotal importance to the entire plot of the show – but to see why you’ll have to watch carefully! Lowri is focused on achieving success in her GCSEs and aims to follow this up with A levels in Music, English and Biology before applying to university to study Performing Arts.

Old Sally Lowri Nesbitt
llis is an incredibly modest young person who is also incredibly gifted when it comes to musical performance! Currently working towards his grade 8 piano and having already achieved grade 7 in violin, Ellis is a truly outstanding musician. He has said that the best thing about playing the role of Charley is that it’s fun to play as he loves having the Charley Bates - ‘cheeky’ roles. As one of the youngest members of the main cast nobody Ellis Thomas could disagree that Ellis has an exceptionally bright future ahead of him!

production on this scale requires huge amounts of dedication from the cast and crew, as well as a lot of help and tolerance from friends and family. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped in some way - as taxi drivers for pupils involved in rehearsals, as set builders, costume providers - the list is endless. Thank you all.
