RIGGER’S LOFT WINERY CULTURAL + COMMERCIAL
Rigger’s Loft Winery is a formal shipyard located at the bay of Richmond. It remains its historical identity through industrial material and tactile visual. Stunning view of San Francisco skyline keeps the visitors to sit outside and appreciate its unique urban context.

“From Shipyard to Urban Winery” Rigger’s Loft was a shipyard during World War II. City of Richmond has designated as a historical building that altering the structure or its exterior was unavailable. Maintaining its aesthetic of an old shipyard, project attempts to appeal high end industrial look. Inspired by the name, chainmail is a modernized interpretation of rigging chain.

“Form of canopy blends with its unique context of bay area Along with its unique location Riggers Loft has the most extraordinary view of the San Francisco Bay. Sailboats drift by as you sip your wine, engage with friends new and old, and stay on for the stunning sunset. As to encourage visitors to appreciate the view, outdoor needs a canopy. It will provide a shade during daytime and be a kinetic sculpture which trembles in the breeze. Subtle movement of the canopy resembles the wave and allows the winery to blend with its unique context.

TREEHOUSE FARM CULTURAL + COMMERCIAL
How can we activate a public space for a better community? The project attempts to balance the relationship between urbanity and ecology. Urban environment needs natural elements: Nature can anchor our relationship to the city and build a healthier community.

precedent
Fox plaza is adjacent to Tanderloin where its considered to be “Food Deserts”. A “Food Desert” is defined by having an over abundance of fast food restaurants, and convenience stores, while having a shortage of real grocery stores. 19.5% of U.S households experienced food insecurity, especially among the low income family,
Urban farm can reduce the distance between producer and consumer, urban farming can lessen energy use and reduce the ecological footprint of food production. It can also play a role in greening cities, which benefits air quality and existing social programs while creating a healthier environment. Urban space has a huge potential to contribute to a city’s food supply, and there is growing interest in exploring this potential. .

Indoor space that provokes a sense of outdoor nature Experience of walking in nature is different from walking in a city. An urban street grid provides a clear sense of orientation, whereas in nature, it is difficult to walk straight due to natural obstacles and it is easy to lose one’s orientation. Lacking a quantitative measure, such as floor height, makes it difficult to judge height in the natural environment; everything is relative. This idea of “relative height” generated my logic for subdividing the spaces of my building section

12 pods + 12 roof + Hydroponic
The Treehouse Farm is comprised of 12 pods with a total of 24 platforms that facilitate diverse activities. Each house has a different level of privacy, from a casual business room to a public picnic area. Via sequence of spaces, it also provides an educational opportunity for the urban farm.

TREEHOUSE EATERY
FOREST CLEARING
The inspiration for the Treehouse Eatery is a clearing in the forest. Just as campers gather in a clearing, people gather for a meal at the restaurant. A centered light well with frosted glass emits ambient lighting around a communal table. The ceiling structure suggests the atmosphere created by a canopy of trees. It expresses the volume of its form and the movement. Just as there is a translucency to leaves in sunlight, the soft lighting created here emulates that through contemporary materials.

MAIN CONCEPT PROPOSALS Biophilic design, incorporates natural materials, natural light, vegetation, nature views and other experiences of the natural world into the modern built environment. It helps to reduce stress, enhance creativity and clarity of thought, improve our well-being and expedite healing. Client asked for design proposal that enhances the quality of working environment in three conditions of budget; minimal, moderate, extreme.
