2009-10 SEASON OUTLOOK The last time the USD women’s basketball team walked off the court, the Toreros exhibited their resiliency and determination. After battling their way into the championship of the 2009 WCC Tournament, the Toreros were one win away from punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. In the end, however, the team exited the court after suffering their final defeat. With big shoes to fill, after the departure of Amber Sprague and Kiva Herman, and a tough end to the 2008-09 season lingering in the minds of the returning players, it would seem to be tough to embrace optimism for the upcoming season. Just do not tell that to the 2009-10 women’s basketball team. Being led by head coach Cindy Fisher, the Toreros will look to build upon last season’s 19-13 record. The team will showcase players with NCAA tournament experience while also welcoming talented newcomers. The lone senior on the squad, forward Morgan Henderson, will provide the veteran leadership, as well as the ability to stretch the opposition’s defense. In 29 games during last season, Henderson shot a team-leading .449 from 3-point range. In total, she averaged 7.5 ppg while adding 4.3 rpg. Another veteran among the group is junior forward Sam Child. Child has started 62 of the 64 games she has played in over the last two years, including 31
starts last season. Child averaged 8.0 ppg, and was second on the team in minutes (1,101), rebounds (147), assists (70), and steals (46). Although she may not be an upperclassman, sophomore guard Dominique Conners sure plays like one. Conners demonstrates the ability to see and manage the court, leading the offensive attack for the Toreros. In her freshman season, Conners appeared in all 32 games, including 28 starts. The team-leader in assists with 95 is also the leading scorer for all returnees, as she averaged 10.2 ppg. In conference play, Conners turned up her play, shooting .431 from the field while averaging 11.8 ppg in 14 WCC contests. With the departure of the program’s all-time leader in career points and rebounds Amber Sprague, a huge vacancy has been left at the center position. Enter redshirt juniors Nya Mason and Erica Carlson. Mason and Carlson will provide the size for the Toreros front court, as both will see an increased role. Mason is coming off a season in which she scored 1.9 ppg, shot .481 from the field, and registered 1.2 rpg in 7.0 minutes per game. Carlson played in 18 games for the Toreros, averaging 0.4 ppg and 1.4 rpg in 4.1 minutes per game. Junior forward Emily Hatch, a tested role player who appeared in all 32 games last season, will look towards continuously helping the team in all areas. Last sea-
son, Hatch established career-highs in points per game (2.1), rebounds per game (3.0), and steals (19). Rounding out the junior class is redshirt-forward Sara VanderHorst. VanderHorst bounced back from an injury-depleted season in 2007-08, by averaging 1.7 ppg over 24 games in 2008-09. With important roles on the team to be determined, she will provide much-needed depth and flexibility for the Toreros. Morgan Woodrow enters her sophomore season after appearing in all 32 games for the Toreros during her freshman campaign. While averaging 10.0 minutes per game, Woodrow contributed 2.0 ppg and 1.1 rpg for the Toreros in the 2008-09 season. While the team may have only one senior, the strong incoming class of freshmen will be relied upon to infuse youth and energy in all aspects of the team. Highly decorated freshman guard Danesia Williamson joins the USD backcourt after being selected to the All-CIF first-team for three consecutive years in high school. In her senior campaign at nearby Mt. Miguel High School, Williamson was named East County Player of the Year after averaging 19.2 ppg, 4.2 steals per game, and 5.2 assists per game. Joining Williamson in the backcourt is freshman guard Julia Benett, who attended Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas, where she was named to the All-
Greater Houston team in her senior season after averaging 18.0 ppg, 3.2 assists per game, and 1.2 steals per game. Two other freshmen, forwards Felicia Wijenberg and Brittany Conger, also enter with outstanding resumes that match those of their classmates on the team. Wijenberg arrives at USD after attending the National Elite Development Academy for Canada and playing for the Canadian Junior National U-18 Team that competed in the FIBA Americas. Conger earned four-varsity letters while attending Mountain View High School in Arizona, helping her team win three 5A East League Championships. Conger was a McDonald’s All-American nominee during her senior year after averaging 11.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg. From the incoming freshman, such as Conger and Wijenberg, to the sole senior, Henderson, the Toreros collectively know what needs to be done to satisfy their expectations. So when they walk off the court for the final time in the 200910 season, the women’s basketball team will have proven they are a threat in the WCC for another season.
Head Coach CINDY FISHER Cindy Fisher was named the University of San Diego head women’s basketball coach on April 19, 2005. In her fourth season, Cindy Fisher had her team playing its best at the right time of the season, as the Toreros had an unprecedented run in the WCC championships, winning three games in three days to reach the championship game for the second time in as many years. The Toreros produced three players to the All-WCC team and Dominique Conners was the lone freshman named to the All-WCC Tournament team. In her third season at the helm of the program, she guided the Toreros back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years. The 2007-08 season also marks back-to-back post season appearances for the Toreros under Fisher’s watch. Fisher helped lead USD to a 19- 12 overall record and a West Coast Conference Tournament championship. She helped guide three players to All-WCC honors, with Amanda Rego and Amber Sprague each earning first-team honors and Sam Child being selected to the All-
WCC freshman team. In only her second season at the helm of the program, Cindy Fisher orchestrated the biggest turn around in school history, a 12-game improvement from 9-19 in the 2005-06 season to a 21-9 record in 2006-07 season. The turn around was the fourth best in the nation. USD has set a lot of records along the way as they have recorded the first-ever 20-win season in program history, finished second place in the West Coast Conference for the first time in program history and had the best overall start in program history at 6-0 and in conference play at 6-0. Under her tutelage, the Toreros placed three players on the All-WCC lists highlighted by Amanda Rego being named the WCC Co-Player of the Year. Rego and Amber Sprague both took home first-team All-WCC honors and Morgan Henderson was named to the All-WCC Freshman team. For her efforts,Fisher was named the 2007 WCC Co-Coach of the Year. During her first season at USD, the Toreros showed remarkable improve-
ment. The Toreros did record a huge 15-point win over Santa Clara on the road and were close in games against Georgia Tech, Boise State and against Loyola Marymount in the first round of the WCC Championship Tournament. Fisher also helped guide Tiara Harris to an All-WCC selection and Kelly Winther to an All-WCC Freshman team selection.
Champion, Baylor, in January of 2005. They also posted Big 12 wins over No. 14 Iowa State and Oklahoma, both NCAA Tournament participants. Fisher recruited and coached Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Jelena Spiric, and recruited and developed post player, Danielle Page, who earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors twice.
Fisher, the University of Nebraska’s top assistant for two seasons, and former head coach for Wyoming between 1998-2003, became USD’s third head coach dating back to the program’s inception in 1978-79. She took over for Kathy Marpe who stepped down after directing the program for 25 years.
During the 2003-04 campaign, the Huskers finished 18-12 overall, and produced one of the top 10 turnarounds in NCAA Division I women’s basketball with 10 more victories. The team earned two wins over top 25 teams; the team cracked the top-25 national rankings for the first time since 1999; and the 2004 recruiting class was ranked 28th nationally.
Fisher helped lead Nebraska to back-to-back appearances in the WNIT during her two seasons with the Huskers. In 2004-05, the team finished 1814 overall and 8-8 in the Big 12. The Huskers recorded the program’s first win over a top-5 team with its 103-99 victory over eventual NCAA National
In five seasons as the head coach at Wyoming, Cindy Fisher compiled a 59-81 record. However, Fisher’s accomplishments at Wyoming go well beyond her overall coaching record. Cindy Fisher’s Cowgirl teams showed improvement in each of her five seasons, culminating with an 18-12 mark in 2002-03. The 18 wins were the school’s most victories since 1989-90.

She also led the Cowgirls to their first postseason appearance since 198990 with a trip to the 2003 WNIT, where Wyoming notched a first-round win over Montana. The WNIT win over Montana marked the first postseason victory in Wyoming women’s basketball history. Her 2001-2002 team at Wyoming finished No. 1 in the country in academic excellence with a team GPA of 3.486.
From Cheyenne, Wyoming, Cindy Fisher was a three-year starter at Cheyenne Central High School, before competing at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington. Her career was cut short by a hip injury, but she earned her associate’s degree in 1984. She transferred to Arizona State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology in 1988.
Before taking the job at Wyoming, Cindy Fisher spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Old Dominion. She served as the Lady Monarchs’ recruiting coordinator and scheduling coordinator and prepared scouting reports, while also acting as the team’s public relations liaison. During her three-year stint, ODU compiled a 92-8 record, including a 34-win season and a pair of 29-win seasons. Old Dominion advanced to the national championship game in 1997, and qualified for the Sweet 16 in each of her three seasons. Fisher also built up her coaching resume with stops at Weber State (1994-95), Mesa CC in Arizona (1988-90; 1993-94), and Illinois State (1992-93; graduate assistant, 1990-92).
After graduation, she served as a physical education instructor at Mesa Community College from 1988 to 1990, before completing her Master’s Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Administration of Sport at Illinois State in 1992.
Assistant Coach MARY ANN FALCOSKY Mary Ann Falcosky begins her fifth year at USD, and ninth year with head coach Cindy Fisher, as an assistant coach. Falcosky has a wealth of coaching experience at both the division I and junior college levels and over 15 years of recruiting experience. With this experience, one of her primary responsibilities will be to coordinate the recruiting effort of the Toreros, which includes both national and international recruiting. Falcosky also works with the USD marketing department to promote the women’s basketball program and assists the strength and conditioning coach to ensure the physical fitness level of the Toreros is at a championship level.

Other responsibilities Falcosky will take on at USD include the scouting of opponents to assist Fisher with game plans. During the game, she will chart the Toreros defensive schemes and provide defensive and offensive input to Fisher. She is also in charge of the development of the post players.
Prior to joining the Weber State staff, Falcosky spent five years as an assistant coach at the University of Wyoming. While at Wyoming, Falcosky was instrumental in implementing an academic program, which resulted in 32 players being recognized academically on an Academic All-Conference Team, and the WBCA recognizing the 2001-02 Wyoming women’s team for having the highest GPA in the country among Division I institutions. Other duties include assisting with all aspects of organizing and running one of the largest team camps (1,800 attendees) in the country, coordinating and assisting with the recruiting efforts which attracted student-athletes from the northwest, west, and mid-west regions and having contributed to the development of seven players who were able to continue their careers playing professionally overseas.

Under Falcosky’s guidance, the Toreros placed three players on the All-WCC lists, including the WCC Co-Player of the Year Amanda Rego. Prior to joining the USD staff, Falcosky completed a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. Falcosky was essential in helping Weber State compile a 38-18 record be-
Her main responsibilities on the Wildcat staff included the individual development of both post and guard players, organizing team travel, assisting with recruiting, organizing and running the high school jamboree camps, marketing and promoting the program, working with the strength and conditioning coach regarding pre, in, and post season strength training and assisting on the court with both offense and defense.
Prior to working at Wyoming, Falcosky was an assistant at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz. for four years. Her 1998-99 recruiting class finished the season ranked 5th in the NJCAA Division II poll. A native of Tempe, Ariz., Falcosky is a 1993 graduate of Northern Arizona University and holds her masters degree in kinesiology and health from the University of Wyoming.
Assistant Coach NIECEE NELSON Niecee Nelson enters her fifth season as an assistant coach at USD. “The University of San Diego has given me an opportunity of a lifetime. I work in an amazing environment, on a campus that is second to none with a strong academic curriculum and a thriving athletic department. I’ve had the opportunity to help build a winning tradition and influence the lives of our student-athletes. It is an honor to call San Diego “home” and a privilege to coach on this staff.” On the court, Nelson’s responsibilities include point guard and shooting guard development. Last season she helped guide Kiva Herman to a First-Team, All-Conference selection as well as an All-tournament award at the West Coast Conference Championships in Vegas. Herman broke the single season scoring record at USD and had a record-breaking performance during the teams’ four game run at the championship. This is the fourth guard to graduate and pursue a professional basketball career overseas since Nelson joined the staff. Nelson also helped Dominique Conners earn a spot on the All-freshman team and ultimately gain recognition on the All-WCC tournament team last season. Off the court, Nelson is responsible for overseeing the teams’ academic progress, organizing of team travel, managing the overall budget, and ordering of team equipment. Nelson came to USD after spending one season at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). While at IPFW Nelson’s primary responsibilities were team travel, post player development, marketing and academic support. Within two months of arriving at IPFW, Nelson was promoted to recruiting coordinator leading the charge in overseas recruiting into Brazil and Europe. Nelson’s marketing efforts helped increase attendance at the women’s basketball games for the 2004-2005 season. Prior to working at IPFW, she worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming with current USD head coach Cindy Fisher. Nelson worked closely with the staff and team on practice and game day coaching, individual workouts, academic support, film exchange, and guard and post development. She helped the Cowgirls culminate a 18-12 mark in 2002-03. The 18 wins were the school’s most victories since 1989-90. She also helped lead the Cowgirls to their first postseason appearance since 1989-90 with a trip to the 2003 WNIT, where Wyoming notched a first-round win over Montana. The WNIT win over Montana marked the first postseason victory in Wyoming women’s basketball history. Nelson was a two-time NAIA All-American at Concordia University in Portland, Ore. She was also named to the Lutheran Brotherhood All-American Team, and was a scholar-athlete. Nelson was chosen as the Cascade Conference Freshman-of-the-year in her first year at Concordia. Nelson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2002 from Concordia, and a master of science degree in kinesiology and health in 2004 from the University of Wyoming. She resides in San Diego with her husband Steve and son Sebastian.
Assistant Coach TIARA HARRIS Tiara Harris in entering her third season as an assistant coach under Cindy Fisher. Harris’ primary responsibilities for the Toreros include guard development, assisting with scouting of opponents, recruiting, academic support of the team, coordinating community service, and co-director of summer camps. In only her first season on staff, Harris helped guide the Toreros back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years. The Toreros posted a 19-12 overall record and claimed the WCC Tournament championship to earn the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. While working with the guards, Harris helped guide Amanda Rego to an All-WCC First-Team distinction. Harris comes to USD after playing professional basketball for the Breidablik team in Iceland. Not only was Harris playing professional basketball in Iceland, but she was also the head coach of the Breidablik junior team. Harris served as a coach for the Air Force Academy team from January of 2007 until the end of the season in March. Harris has also coached USD
summer camps since 2002 as well as the Air Force summer camp in 2006. Harris was an All-West Coast Conference performer for the Toreros women’s basketball team taking home first-team All-WCC honors as a senior in the 2005-06 season, head coach Cindy Fisher’s first season at the helm of the program. Harris became the ninth player in the history of the program to record 1,000 career points, and finished her career with 1,150 career points to place sixth all-time at USD. Harris is also ranked 10th in career field goals made (386), third in three-point field goals made (137), ninth in three-point field goal percentage (35.5), fifth in free-throws made (241) and fifth in free-throw percentage (79.8). Harris earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from USD in 2006 and resides in San Diego.
Graduate Assistant BETH BRADLEY Beth Bradley is entering her second season as the Graduate Assistant for head coach, Cindy Fisher. Her responsibilities include: marketing, coordinating film exchange, community outreach, academic support, maintaining the recruiting database, assisting with game operations, providing real-time game statistics, and coordinating summer camps. Bradley was a stand-out player at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. While initially, Bradley played volleyball, her sophomore year she walked on to the basketball team and played for four years, earning a full-ride scholarship along the way. As a team captain and senior, she helped lead the Bisons to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, becoming the first women’s basketball team at LU to reach the NCAA Tournament and in its first year of eligibility, a history making feat. Bradley brings a diverse coaching background to the Toreros. She has coached at several different summer camps including Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University, and California State University Chico. Bradley earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from Lipscomb in 2003, majoring in Public Relations and double-minoring in Marketing and English. Prior to coming to San Diego, Bradley worked for the International Non-Profit, Operation Smile as the Regional Development Manager for California. Currently, she is pursuing a Masters in Leadership with an emphasis in Organizational Behavior at the University of San Diego.

Undergraduate Assistant HANNAH MORGENSTERN Hannah Morgenstern enters her first year as an Undergraduate Student Assistant coach for the Torero women’s basketball program. She will help assist head coach Cindy Fisher with all aspects of the game. Morgenstern, who is a senior at USD, was a member of the women’s basketball team for three years, but due to an injury she was limited to a few minutes of action. A stand-out on the Highlands Ranch High School basketball team in Littleton, Colo., Morgenstern helped lead her team to the state championship as a senior and earned an All-State honorable mention as both a sophomore and junior. As a freshman in high school, Morgenstern earned a McDonald’s All-American nomination.

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA San Diego is truly “America’s Finest City.” A modern metropolis (second largest in California) and a popular year-round resort, San Diego spreads from the coast to the desert, including cliffs, mesas, hills, canyons and valleys. San Diego also surrounds one of California’s greatest natural harbors which has been a dominant factor in determining the city’s history, economy and development. Meteorologists claim San Diego as the country’s only area with perfect climate. This ideal year-round environment posts an average daytime temperature of 70 degrees, with an annual rainfall average of less than 10 inches. Most days are sunny, with humidity generally low, even in the summer. The climate, attractive setting and recreational facilities make San Diego “America’s Finest City.”

The city has mostly avoided the evils of urban sprawl, which has allowed its
downtown to remain vibrant, especially the Gaslamp Quarter. San Diego is also home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo as well as Sea World. The city is great for families, but for those without kids, there is a lot to do as well. San Diego is home to a number of military bases, primarily due to its location. In 1941, after the Pearl Harbor attacks, the U.S. established the headquarters of the Pacific Fleet in San Diego, and the city is now home to the largest air naval station on the west coast. Unlike many cities, San Diego’s airport is right next to downtown, increasing its convenience even more. One can sail, swim, surf, scuba dive, snorkel, windsurf on 70 miles of public beach or golf at any
of the over 80 golf courses throughout the county. Balboa Park, a 1,158-acre recreation and cultural center, offers 25 tennis courts, two gymnasiums, two municipal golf courses, and one of the nation’s finest zoos. Mission Bay Park is a 4,600-acre playground for jogging, fishing, bicycling, tennis, golf, jet skiing and kite flying. As well as participating in recreational activities, San Diego supports their professional teams -- the NFL Chargers play at Qualcomm Stadium, and the San Diego Padres play at Petco Park. During college football bowl week, San Diego annually hosts the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl in late December. During 1998, Qualcomm Stadium hosted the Super Bowl game between Denver and Green Bay; followed by the World Series between the San Diego Padres and the New York Yankees. The Super Bowl returned to San Diego in 2003. Whatever sporting activity there is, it’s here in San Diego -- the sports capital of the U.S.!
THE CAMPUS The University of San Diego is an independent Catholic institution of higher education. Founded in 1949, USD is located on 180 acres overlooking Mission Bay, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus is named Alcalá Park and is located just 10 minutes from downtown San Diego. The campus was named after a Spanish village near Madrid - Alcala de Henares. Founded by the Greeks as Complutum, the village was later renamed Al Kala (the Castle) by the Moslems. Christians recaptured the village centuries later and founded a university whose buildings became the inspiration for USD’s architectural style.
USD
Under the leadership of Mother Rosalie Hill of the Society of the Sacred Heart and Bishop Charles Francis Buddy of the Diocese of San Diego, the University of San Diego began as separate colleges for men and women. The first classes met in 1952; the School of Law opened its doors in 1954. By the late 1960’s it became clear that both colleges would benefit from combining academic resources, and in 1972 the University of San Diego became a single coeducational Catholic university. Now governed by a board of trustees independent from the founding organizations, USD is a Roman Catholic institution that welcomes students, faculty and staff of diverse religions, traditions and remains dedicated to the values originally articulated by Mother Hill and Bishop Buddy. Students choose from more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degrees programs in academic divisions including the College of Arts and Sciences and the schools of Business Administration, Leadership and Education Sciences, Law and Nursing and Health Science. The USD campus is regarded as one of the most architecturally unique institutions in the country, featuring major buildings designed in an ornamental 16th century Spanish Renaissance style. Since 2000, USD has completed numerous major construction and expansion projects. In 2000 the Jenny Craig Pavilion, a 5,100-seat athletic center, opened its doors as home to USD basketball and volleyball. The Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice opened on the west end of campus, and in 2003 the Donald P. Shiley Center for Science and Technology opened. The Degheri Alumni Center, a three-story 28,000 square foot building located near the main entrance to USD, opened in 2004. A gathering place for the alumni family, it was made possible with a generous gift from alumnus Bert Degheri ’61. The Student Life Pavilion, a four-story, 50,000-square-foot building, opened its doors this past fall.

With the donation of 10 million dollars by Sid and Jenny Craig, the University of San Diego received the lead gift necessary to proceed with the planning of the 17.5 million dollar Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Jenny Craig Pavilion serves as home to the Torero men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the Torero women’s volleyball team. The Jenny Craig Pavilion officially opened its doors on Thursday, October 5, 2000 and was instantly recognized as one of the finest collegiate athletic facilities of its size. The Jenny Craig Pavilion, located at the eastern end of campus between Torero Stadium and Cunningham Baseball Stadium, has a seating capacity of 5,100, a 3,800 square foot fitness center, coaches offices, athletic training facilities, locker rooms, a concession stand and reception room. The arena was constructed, with the university’s architectural theme of 16th century Spanish Renaissance, and contains state-of-the-art sound and lighting as well as two Daktronics video boards for spectator comfort. This is the second home to USD basketball and volleyball teams, and seats twice the number of fans as the university’s old Sports Center. Unlike basketball venues that have the scoreboard suspended over the center of the court, forcing some spectators to crane their necks to check the score, the Jenny Craig Pavilion was designed with large scoreboards and video screens on the north and south walls, and smaller scoreboards on the east and west sides. Other benefits the coaches and administration appreciate are the opportunities to attract television coverage games, host concerts, USD tournaments and special games. The Jenny Craig Pavilion quickly garnered major attention from around the region, as the West Coast Conference selected USD as the site of the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2008 WCC Basketball Championships, the 2002 California Junior College Basketball Championships, the annual Kiwanis Basketball Tournament, the Darrell Russell Celebrity Charity Basketball game, the 2003 NFL Celebrity Basketball Game, the Official Super Bowl XXXVII Luncheon, and the 2004 Judo National Championships.
LOCKER ROOM
The department of sports medicine operates under the supervision of the University of San Diego’s designated team physician, Paul C. Murphy MD, the associate director of athletics for sports medicine, Carolyn Greer, associate athletic trainers, and assistant athletic trainers. The sports medicine facility is located in the Jenny Craig Pavilion and is for the exclusive use of the University of San Diego student-athletes. This 2,400 square foot facility has defined taping, rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy areas. In addition, there is a private treatment/exam room, used by Dr. Murphy. The entire athletic training staff takes great pride in the services rendered to over 400 student athletes through this facility. The USD athletic training room is clearly the top sports medicine venue in the West Coast Conference.
University of San Diego student-athletes receive elite coaching from their strength and conditioning staff in one of the premier weight rooms on the West Coast. With 5,000 square feet of floor space (plus an additional 1,600 square feet of turf ), 16 all inclusive lifting stations and approximately 20,000 pounds of free weights, multiple teams can be simultaneously coached in a comprehensive strength and conditioning development program. Medicine balls, dumbbells, gymnastics rings and various pullup stations are used to enhance the training provided for all 16 of USD’s varsity sports. The USD strength staff advocates the use of ground based, multi-joint, explosive free weight exercises in the training of student-athletes. USD teams are taught the clean and jerk, snatch, squats, deadlift and the various barbell and dumbbell variations. By using the exercises, in combination with intense effort, we believe USD student-athletes will be well prepared to meet every physical challenge put to them in competition.
2006-07 WNIT Team In the 2006-07 season, the University of San Diego witnessed arguably the greatest season in women’s basketball history, as the team recorded the program’s first 20win season, under second-year head coach Cindy Fisher. The team had a 12-game improvement from the previous season and finished with a program-best 21-9 record and a 10-4 mark in the WCC. USD began the season in stylish fashion, ripping off seven consecutive wins to post the best seven-game start in program history. USD continued to roll as they entered WCC action with an 11-3 record. USD then steam rolled through the first six games of conference action, before suffering their first WCC loss to Gonzaga. USD would then earn the No. 2 seed in the WCC Tournament, after placing second in conference, the highest place finish in program history. After suffering a first-round loss in the WCC tournament, USD learned of its inaugural berth into the WNIT. USD hosted the first round game against UC Santa Barbara, but fell to the Gauchos ending the record-setting season.
1999-2000 NCAA Tournament Team In the 1999-2000 season the Toreros experienced one of the programs best seasons in USD history under head coach Cathy Marpe. The Toreros finished the season with a 17-13 overall record, matching a USD record for most wins in a season, and posted a 7-7 record in West Coast Conference play earning them a fourth seed in the WCC Tournament. The Toreros opened the tournament with a hard fought 65-62 win against Loyola Marymount in the first round, then upset No. 3 seed and host Santa Clara 61-56. Next stop for USD was the championship round with top-seeded Pepperdine. With the score knotted at 45-45 and nine minutes remaining, USD put together a 15-2 run to pull ahead. Pepperdine would come back to pull within three, but could come no closer lifting the Toreros into their second NCAA Tournament appearance. The 15th-seeded Toreros would fall in the first round to the No. 2 seed University of Notre Dame by a final of 87-61.
1992-93 NCAA Tournament Team In the 1992-93 women’s basketball season, the Toreros made their inaugural run into the NCAA Tournament. The Toreros posted a 16-12 overall record and an 8-6 record in the West Coast Conference, good for a second place finish. The Toreros opened the season with three straight losses, but bounced back winning nine of their next 11 games including a season long six-game winning streak. USD would open conference play with three straight wins against Saint Mary’s, San Francisco and Portland which caught the attention of the conference. USD would not suffer a losing streak for the remainder of the season to finish in second place behind Santa Clara, to whom the Toreros dropped two games during the regular season. USD would then run the table in the WCC Tournament and pull off a huge upset against heavily favored Santa Clara defeating the Broncos 64-57 to earn their first trip to the “Big Dance”. USD would fall in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to the Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska 81-58.

Sabine Loewe played at USD from 2003-07, and was a part of the biggest turn around in program history, as she helped lead the 2006-07 team to the program’s lone 21-win season, a 12-game improvement from the previous year. In her senior year, she also helped the Toreros make its inaugural appearance into the WNIT. She finished her career ranked fifth in career shooting percentage at 50.1. She now played professional basketball in Germany.
Amber Sprague was a three-time first-team All-WCC performer and finished her career as USD’s all-time career point leader with 1728 points, and she is also USD’s al-time leader in career rebounds with 868. She heled lead USD into back-to-back post season appearances, making a trip to the WNIT as a sophomore and to the NCAA Tournament as a junior. She now plays basketball fro the Aris Thessaloniki women’s basketball team.
Amanda Rego was a two-time first-team All-WCC selection, and is the lone Toreros in program history to earn the WCC Co-Player of the Year award. A honor she recieved in her junior season after leading the nation in assists with 230. She finished her career as the all-time leader in assists (582) and steals (240). She also set the program record for single game assists with 14 and steals with 10. She now playe professional basketball for the SV Halle Lions.
Kiva Herman left USD in 2009 in stylish fashion, by setting the single-season points record at 588 and the highest ppg total at 18.4. She set the WCC Tournament record with 95 points scored as a senior when USD won three games in three days to reach the WCC Championship game for the second straight year. She earned one first-team All-WCC honor as a senior and was also named to the All-WCC Tournament team that same year. She finished her career with 1,199 points, fifth best all-time. She now plays pro basketball for the Canti Riva Basket.

KY SNYDER
Executive Director of Athletics Ky Snyder was named Executive Director of Athletics at the University of San Diego on December 10th, 2003. Dr. Mary E. Lyons, USD President, introduced Snyder who returned to USD where he was Director of Athletic Development from 1990 to 1996. He came back to USD from the San Diego International Sports Council where he held the position of President. With the San Diego International Sports Council, Snyder’s primary responsibility was to promote San Diego/Tijuana as the preferred region for sporting events and activities that benefit the community both economically and socially. Accomplishments of the Sports Council bid efforts during Snyder’s tenure included securing San Diego the 1997 and 1998 ESPN Summer X Games, the Suzuki Rock & Roll Marathon, the 1999 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, the Bank of America/U.S. Olympic Cup, NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball First & Second Round (2001) contests, the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championships (2001) and Super Bowl XXXVII. In the spring of 2001, Snyder was named the President of the San Diego Super Bowl XXXVII Host Committee. He still serves as President of the San Diego Super Bowl Task Force. Snyder was also the Executive Director of the San Diego International Sports Foundation. Prior to joining the SDISC, Snyder was the Director of Athletic Development at the University of San Diego for six years. At USD he was responsible for establishing the Torero Athletic Association, fund-raising efforts for athletics, managing athletic special events and generating corporate sponsorship of athletics.

At USD he oversees an athletic department with seventeen NCAA Division I intercollegiate teams and over 400 student-athletes. He is responsible for all administrative, management and supervisory aspects of the Department of Athletics. Additionally, he oversees the strategic long-range planning and monitoring of budgets, personnel, programs, facilities, fundraising, promotions and marketing, and public relations for an NCAA Division I program consisting of eight sports for men and nine sports for women. He serves on the NCAA Division I Football Rules Committee and as the Corporate Co-Chair of the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. This past season saw the USD athletics program win its second consecutive WCC Commissioner’s Cup. The conference trophy goes to the school with the top performing athletics program in the eight-team West Coast Conference. Four Torero teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2008-09, while a record six teams made it in 2007-08. Snyder played football at San Diego State University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from San Diego State University and has studied in the Master’s Leadership Program at the University of San Diego. Snyder, who has been a San Diego resident for 27 years, has a very The Snyder Family: (l-r) Riley, Cammy, Sue, Sydney, Ky athletic family. His wife, Sue, was a former standout member of the United States women’s national volleyball team who played at San Diego State and also coached the Aztecs and University of San Diego’s women’s volleyball teams. Mike Matoso, Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mike Matoso, in his tenth year at USD, begins his fourth year in the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director. He will have the responsibility for the day-to-day operation and management of the department including compliance, personnel, programs, facilities and operations. Mike also supervises men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer and men’s tennis. He currently serves on two West Coast Conference committees (Championships and Sportsmanship), as well as one national committee (NCAA Cabinet for Student Athlete Welfare, Financial Aid and Extra Benefits). Matoso had held the title of Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration beginning in the Fall of 2003, and was the department’s Compliance Coordinator for five years. Mike started his Torero career as the department’s Academic Support Coordinator. Prior to USD, he spent three years as the Academic Counselor at USC where he worked with the football, baseball, women’s soccer, swimming and volleyball programs. Prior to USC, Mike served as the Academic Advisor for all 18 intercollegiate programs at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for two years. He earned both his B.S. degree in Physical Education (1993) and M.A. in Education, Counseling (1994) from Cal Poly. He was also a starting pitcher for the Mustangs baseball team that participated in the Division II College World Series.

Dan Yourg, Associate Director of Athletics, has been a member of the USD Athletics Department since the fall of 1985. His main duties include overseeing the department ‘s budget and business operations, along with sport supervision of football, women’s swimming and diving, and baseball. Yourg has overall supervision of Sports Camps and Clinics, and the Equipment Staff. In addition, he is the department liaison to USD’s Financial Aid, Budget & Treasury, Bursar, Campus Card, Housing, Dining Services and Bookstore. Additionally, Yourg is the Athletic Department contact for NCAA directed annual audits, coordinates the USD Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) report, the NCAA Student Athlete Opportunity Fund and the NCAA Special Assistance Fund for Student-Athletes. Yourg is a national member of CABMA, the College Athletic Business Management Association. He volunteers in the San Diego community serving on The Board of Directors for Tecolote Youth Baseball. Yourg received his Bachelor’s (Sociology, 1980) and Master’s (Social Work, 1986) degrees from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a nose guard on the Badgers’ football team. He played four years and was a letter winner. Yourg is an inductee of the St. Viator High School (Arlington Heights, Illinois) Athletic Hall of Fame. Dan and his wife Virginia, a USD alumnus, are the parents of three sons, John, Thomas and Michael.
Shaney Fink,

Shaney Fink begins her ninth year with USD and her fourth in the role of Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services/Senior Woman Administrator. She will also have sports supervision for women’s volleyball and women’s tennis. Prior to her current position, she was Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Student Services, and since her arrival at USD has overseen the Academic Support Program. During the 1999 season she assisted the Torero volleyball coaching staff, helping the Toreros to a 23-6 record and second round finish in the NCAA Tournament. Prior to USD she gained coaching experience at the high school, college and international levels for four years. She capped off a stellar collegiate career (1990-93) at Cal Berkeley and won selection to the All-Pac 10 Decade Team. Fink earned her B.A. in Social Science from Berkeley in 1994. In the spring of 2004 she earned her Masters Degree at USD in Counseling. Shaney and her husband, Tom Vorkoper, reside in Encinitas with their three children - Lucas, Mia and Leon.

Brian Fogarty enters his 14th year in USD athletics administration where he is Associate Director of Athletics for Development. He took over this post after spending thirteen years as USD’s head football coach. He directed USD’s football program to eleven seasons of .500 or better records and guided their move from the Division III ranks to the NCAA I-AA level in 1993. In 2003 he was named USD’s “Administrator of the Year.” His primary responsibilities are oversight of the annual and capital fund raising efforts for the Athletics Department. He co-directed the capital campaign for the Jenny Craig Pavilion, which opened its doors in October of 2000. Brian and his wife Denise were married in 2004. Between them they have six grown children, and this coming September will welcome their sixth grand child. Three of their children are alumni of USD.

Steve Becvar,
Assoc. Dir. of Athletics/Marketing and Sponsorships
Steve Becvar enters his third year with the University of San Diego as the Associate Director of Athletics for Marketing and Sponsorships. Additionally, he will be the sport superviser for cross country and track, men’s soccer, softball and sports performance. Becvar, 47, comes to USD after serving as the Executive Associate Athletic Director and General Manager of Aztec Sports Properties at San Diego State University since 2003. In this role, his responsibilities included overseeing the Aztecs’ marketing and corporate sales efforts, along with media relations, facilities and the operations departments. From April through July of 2005, Becvar served as the interim athletics director at SDSU. Prior to working at SDSU, Becvar was the Director of Sponsorship and Corporate Sales for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies from 2001-2003, where he navigated the team’s corporate relations efforts by sparking local community involvement and transitioning the team’s relocation from Vancouver. The Maryland native was a key figure in laying the groundwork for the XFL’s Memphis Maniax during the team’s inaugural 2000-01 campaign, as the vice president of sales and marketing. In this role, Becvar oversaw many of the team’s daily operations, including hiring staff, managing the budget, negotiating business contracts and develop-
ing facilities. Prior to his stints with the Memphis Grizzlies and Maniax, he was the Associate Athletics Director for Development and Marketing for the United States Air Force Academy athletics department. A two sport athlete (basketball and baseball) at Ohio University, Becvar graduated with an undergraduate degree in Business Management and Masters Degree in Sports Administration. Steve and his wife Jo have three children, Stephanie (17), David (14) and Terrence (11), and reside in Valley Center.

Carolyn Greer enters her 32nd year as the Head Athletic Trainer for the University of San Diego department of athletics. Four years ago she was promoted to the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine. She is assisted by Paul Signorelli, Joe Parry and Eli Bisnett-Cobb. This past spring she was inducted into the Far West Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. In 2007 she received the San Diego State University Distinguished Alumnus award for the Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences and also the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Three years ago Carolyn was named the 2005 Thomas F. Burke Employee-of-the-Year for the Student Affairs Division. Over the years she has taught Sports Medicine classes at San Diego State University, as well as presented at professional meetings. She oversees seventeen intercollegiate teams and over 400 USD student-athletes. The Sports Medicine staff provides injury prevention, immediate care, and rehabilitation for USD’s intercollegiate athletes, as well as covering the intercollegiate events. As an Adjunct Professor for San Diego State University, she participates in the clinical education of athletic training students. A 1975 graduate of San Diego State University, Carolyn was certified as an Athletic Trainer and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine. Carolyn, and her husband Jeff, reside in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. They have two grown boys - David (recent USD graduate) and Jason (senior at USD).

Andy Fee is in his eighth year at USD, and enters his third in the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations. Fee will oversee all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing for the department’s athletic venues. He also is the sport superviser for women’s & men’s rowing, and men’s golf. Fee came to USD from Arizona State University where he was Assistant Director of Facility Operations for Athletics for two seasons. Before that he was Facility Supervisor for the ASU Student Recreation Complex. Besides his work at ASU, he developed Athletics and Management skills with the NFL Cardinals, Fiesta Bowl and PGA Phoenix Open. From Scottsdale, Arizona, he earned his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in History from Arizona State University, and his M.A. in Education from the University of Phoenix. Andy and his wife, Nicole, reside in North Park.
Ted Gosen, Associate Director of Athletics for Media Relations, is in his 29th year. He oversees all public relations activities, publications, athletic website and information services for the athletic department, in addition to hosting the media at USD events. He is assisted by Chris Loucks and Ryan McCann. In 1981 Ted received his Master of Science degree in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. A 1979 graduate of San Jose State University, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In addition to his SID duties, Ted is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA); a member of USD’s Athletic Hall of Fame Committee; and taught a bowling class through the USD recreation department for 26 years. Ted received his 25-year award from CoSIDA in July, 2007 at the CoSIDA Convention held in San Diego. Ted and his wife Terri, a 1983 USD graduate, reside in Poway with their four daughters: Katie (recent graduate of USD), Colleen (junior at USD), Claire and Erin.
Kara Smith Asst. Dir. for Athletic Development Kara Smith is in her second year in the position of Assistant Director of Athletics for Development. She oversees the annual athletic giving campaign and organizes all the athletic fundraising events and booster clubs for the department. Prior to USD, Kara was the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at DePaul University where she planned reunions, homecoming, awards and local events. Prior to DePaul University, Kara worked for the Chicago Bears Football Club for four seasons and started its Alumni Department where she planned events and appearances for former players as well as planned and managed training camp operations. From Chicago, Illinois, Kara received her BBA and MA in Sports Management from Western Michigan University where she earned a full athletic scholarship for gymnastics. She is a White Sox fan. Her two sisters, Kelly and Kristen, have their master’s degrees from USD.

Her responsibilities include the purchasing, maintenance, fitting, organization and distribution of equipment for all seventeen varsity sports at USD. Prior to USD, Angie worked at San Diego State University as an Assistant Manager of equipment services from 2004-2009. She helped supervise a staff of 3 full-time assistants and 12 student managers in the daily operations of an Athletic Equipment Services Department that serviced eighteen varsity sports. Angie has a Bachelor of Science degree from San Diego State University in Child Development with an emphasis in Family Development. She is a certified member of the Athletic Equipment Manager’s Associations. Angie and her husband Ricky, reside in San Diego.

Ryan McCann is in his fourth year as the media relations coordinator. His duties include radio and TV liaison, producing media guides, press releases, brochures and game programs for numerous Torero sports. McCann also updates and maintains the athletic website for the sports that he is responsible

Loucks also updates and maintains the athletic website for the sports that he covers. Prior to USD, Loucks was a graduate assistant at Gonzaga University where he served as the primary media contact for women’s soccer, baseball, and men’s and women’s tennis. He also served as a Media Relations Assistant at UC Riverside from 2002-2004 serving as the Highlanders’ primary media contact for men’s soccer and softball. Loucks also worked in the Sports Information offices at Cal State Fullerton and Saddleback College. In 2002, Loucks received his B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in public relations from Cal State Fullerton. He is currently working on his master’s in sport and athletic administration from Gonzaga.
Sarabeth Pollock Coor. of Athletic Academic Support
Sarabeth Pollock begins her fifth year as the Coordinator of Athletic Academic Support for USD. She has worked as a tutor in the Athletic Department since the fall of 2001. She serves as the academic advisor for all sports except Football and Rowing. Her responsibilities include the supervision of the Study Hall and the administration of the tutoring and mentoring programs. Currently, the Academic Support Program employs over 25 tutors who represent a variety of majors across campus, as well as over 12 mentors who are graduate students pursuing their masters degrees in USD’s Counseling Program. Sarabeth graduated from USD in 2002 in the Honors Program, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. She speaks Spanish and French fluently. A 5th generation San Diegan, she resides in Point Loma with her family. In her spare time, Sarabeth enjoys working on her novel that she hopes to have published eventually.
for. Prior to USD, McCann spent one year in South Korea teaching English to elementary and middle school students and was a SID student assistant at Linfield College. In 2004, McCann received his B.A. in Mass Communications from Linfield College.
Matthew Parr Athletic Facilities & Operations
Matthew Parr enters his third year with the USD athletics department as the Assistant Director for Facilities and Operations. He assists Andy Fee in overseeing all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing for the department's athletic venues. Prior to USD, Parr was a work study student under Andy Fee and John Martin for four years and was also a member of the USD cross country team and served on the USD Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Matthew is a 2007 graduate of USD where he earned his B.A. in History and Political Science. Parr resides in El Cajon, Calif.

Dir. of Jenny Craig Pavilion Josh Lawrence begins his seventh year as the Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. He came to USD after 7 years at UC San Diego, where his responsibilities included managing the RIMAC Arena. Here at USD, Josh’s responsibilities include scheduling, staffing and all management aspects of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. In this capacity he will manage the daily operations of the facility, including event management and marketing of the Pavilion. Josh received his B.S. from UC San Diego in 1993 with a double major in Political Science and U.S. History. Josh and his wife, Lisa, reside in San Diego, and welcomed their first child, Anne Elizabeth, on January 2, 2008.

Branda Cook
Asst. Dir. of Jenny Craig Pavilion Branda Cook joined the University of San Diego as the Assistant Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion in May 2006. She works in coordination with the Director of the Pavilion to ensure smooth facility operation with a focus on student employee management and liaison to other USD departments and vendors. Branda began her employment at the University of San Diego in 2002 as the Assistant Director of Operations for the Ernest Hahn University Center. She was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility ensuring a clean, fun and safe environment while motivating, mentoring and managing student staff that worked in the Center. Prior to USD, she taught Life Science and Physical Science at the Community Learning Center for Mira Costa Community College for six years. Additionally, Branda served as the General Manager of two retail stores for four years. A USD 1997 aluma with a B.A. Marine Science, emphasis in Biology. Branda is currently working toward her Masters of Marine Science at USD.
Whitney Strain
Game Operations Manager Whitney Strain is in her second year with USD, and first in the position of athletic operations manager. Whitney worked as the administrative assistant in the athletics administrative office for the past year. In addition to her regular duties of helping to run the main office, Whitney took on additional challenges working in compliance and eligibility certification, as well as in operations – serving as operations assistant during the 2009 WCC Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas. Before coming to USD, Whitney was the championships and marketing assistant at the West Coast Conference office and did events management for Stanford University. Whitney graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications and a B.B.A. in Marketing. While at Iowa she competed on the women’s soccer team. In her new position, Whitney will assume responsibility for all game-day operations, including supervision of security, parking, visiting team practices and locker rooms, game-day staffing, scheduling of officials, scheduling athletic facilities, and assisting with ticketing and event information.
Ron Valenzuela Coor. of Student Athlete Services
Ron Valenzuela begins his seventh year with the University of San Diego and his second in the position of Coordinator of Student Athlete Services in the Department of Athletics Ron will administer the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, as well as programs in career development, community service, personal development and academic recognition. Ron is also the academic counselor to football, baseball, and women’s tennis. Prior to his current position, he served as the Career Services Coordinator and Career Counselor in USD’s Career Services office. Ron earned his Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from SDSU in 2001 and his Master of Arts in Counseling from USD in 2008. Ron resides in Point Loma.
Brent LeVasseur Academic Counselor/ Compliance Coor.
Brent LeVasseur is beginning his second year in the Torero athletic department as the Academic Counselor and Compliance Coordinator. He comes to USD from UC Riverside where he was the athletics ticket manager. Prior to that, Brent was a compliance assistant at USD where his responsibilities included researching bylaws and interpretations, determining initial eligibility, updating Web status reports, and reviewing recruiting logs. Brent also has experience as a volunteer child development specialist/tutor at the Boys & Girls Club in Michigan and as an elementary school mentor/coach and tutor. Brent earned his MBA in Sports Business Management at SDSU, where he was honored as the valedictorian. He earned his BA at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, where he majored in mathematics and minored in business. He also played football and baseball, becoming baseball team captain and MVP his senior year.
Stephane Rochet
Dir. of Athletic Performance Training Stephane Rochet is in his second year as Director of Athletic Performance Training at USD. Prior to coming to USD, Rochet worked as an assistant strength coach at UCLA and at Indiana University and was a police officer in Newport Beach. Rochet received his Master’s in Sports Administration from the University of Ohio. In addition, he holds the USAW Level I certification, Russian Kettlebell Certification and is a certified CrossFit Instructor.

NCAA COMPLIANCE
I want to play Division I intercollegiate athletics at San Diego… What do I need to do in order to play at San Diego as a freshman? If you intend to participate in Division I or II athletics as a freshman, you must register and be certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Your high school counselor should provide you with a brochure titled, “NCAA Guide for the College-Bound StudentAthlete.” In order to be registered with the Eligibility Center, you should create an account at www.eligibilitycenter.org and pay the registration fee of $60 for US students or $85 for international students. Then work with your high school counselor to ensure that an official copy of your high-school transcript, which includes your SAT or ACT score(s), is sent to the Eligibility Center. When registering for the SAT or ACT, you should use the NCAA Eligibility Center code (9999) as a score recipient. After graduation and before the school closes for the summer, your school also must send the Eligibility Center a copy of your final transcript that confirms graduation from high school. Your counselors can obtain registration materials, at no cost, by calling the clearinghouse at (877) 262-1492 or (317) 223-0700 for international callers. How do I know if I’m being recruited? You become a “prospective student-athlete” when you start ninth-grade classes. Before the ninth grade, you become a prospective student-athlete if a college gives you (or your relatives or friends) any financial aid or other benefits that the college does not provide prospective students generally. You become a “recruited prospective student-athlete” at a particular college if any coach approaches you (or any member of your family) about enrolling and participating in athletics at that college. Activities by coaches that cause you to become a recruited prospective student-athlete are (1) providing you with an official visit; (2) placing more than one telephone call to you or any other member of your family; or (3) visiting you or any other member of your family anywhere other than the college campus. Boosters: In addition to general recruiting regulations, no alumni, boosters or representatives of a college’s athletics interests can be involved in your recruitment. There can be no phone calls or letters from boosters. If a USD booster is contacting you, please call the San Diego Compliance Office as soon as possible at (619) 260-4755. Don’t risk your NCAA eligibility! When can I talk to the coach and have him/her see me play? Telephone Calls: In Women’s Basketball, a prospect may receive a telephone call once per month in April, May and June 1-20, once between June 21 and June 30 after your junior year, three times in July after your junior year (maximum of one call per week), and may start receiving additional calls after August 1 of your senior year. After this, a college coach is limited to one telephone call per week to you (or
your parents or legal guardians), except that unlimited calls to you (or your parents or legal guardians) may be made under the following circumstances: (1) during the five days immediately before your official visit by the college you will be visiting; (2) on the day of a coach’s off-campus contact with you by that coach; (3) on the initial date for signing the National Letter of Intent in your sport through two days after the initial signing date; and (4) you (or your parents) may telephone a coach at your expense as often as you wish. After a National Letter of Intent is signed, unlimited calls may be placed to the prospect. Off-Campus Contacts: A college coach may contact you in person off the college campus beginning September 16 of your senior year. The contact must take place on the prospect’s high school campus and follow restrictions on the sport’s recruiting calendar. A contact is any face-to-face meeting between a college coach or athletics staff member and you or your parents, during which any of you say more than “hello.” Also, any such face-to-face meeting that is prearranged or that takes place on your campus, at an organized competition or practice involving you or your high school, preparatory school, two-year college or all-star team shall be considered a contact, regardless of the conversation. However, a college coach may visit your high school (with the approval of your high school principal) only once a week during contact period. Evaluations: An evaluation is any off-campus activity used to assess your academic qualifications or athletics ability, including a visit to your high school (during which no contact occurs) or watching you practice or compete at any site. In women’s basketball, a coach has two evaluation opportunities and three contact opportunities. Once you sign a National Letter of Intent, you may be evaluated an unlimited number of times by a college coach from the college with which you have signed. Letters: Letters and printed recruiting information may be sent to you starting September 1st at the beginning of your junior year in high school. However, you may still contact a university prior to this date to receive general (non-athletic related) information. You may also complete an athletic questionnaire prior to this date. What Can I Receive from San Diego? You (or your family) may not receive any benefit, inducement or arrangement, such as cash, clothing, camp, improper expenses, transportation, gifts or loans to encourage you to sign a National Letter of Intent or attend an NCAA college.
