Historical map overlay
Historical timeline
A historical analysis of the given site which is the concrete lawn in the university. Historical maps were overlaid to track physical changes in the site, such as the transformation of the swampy land into a lake and then removal of the lake and the addition of buildings as time went by.
SPATIAL COMPOSITION

An exploration of the space created by parallel beams which are connected by tilting, straight columns, forming a curve with straight lines.

LANDFORMING To create this landform, techniques such as stepping, extruding and cutting have been used. Triangular and rectilinear shapes generated the steps and the spaces within were formed.

ASSEMBLAGE
I was given the task of smoothing for my assemblage. Combining the triangular and rectilinear shapes from my landform and the parallel beams from my spatial composition, I used stepping and tilting as techniques to create this new form. Plan

SPACIO-TEMPORAL NARRATIVE They promised that If we danced beautifully They’d put down their guns So that the flowers wouldn’t be bleeding Every time I see them
They promised that If we sang beautifully They’d take off the fences That stung our hands when We tried to reach each other
Collage
They promised that Heaven would be beautiful And that we’ll see it If only we knew That heaven was a long lost fantasy And peace was a dead dream In its infinite slumber Will we finally lie In peace?
SUPERIMPOSITION COLLAGE
YU CHIA LIM | 816571 | ENVS 10004 | SM2 2016
This superimposition consisted of the site’s historical map overlays, the collage and the photograph of the assemblage from top-view. The yellow and orange shapes were used to accentuate some of the shapes I discovered to be interesting within the composition and to add colour to the superimposition.

Plan with context
Model photography
The plan of the final project was generated from the superimposition of the collage and assemblage plan, hence the rectilinear shapes discovered. The grid which forms the treehouse-like space was obtained from the grid of the historical map overlay.
