YUEDAN HUANG INTERIORDESIGN
ILLUME LAB The concept of Gradient and Nature has set the theme for this whole project. Researching Inside Outside and Petra Blaisse's projects, we have learned that the concept behind most of her projects are using textile, layer, and gradient to engage the structures to create a conversation from the inside and the outside. Therefore, I applied the concept of gradient, which is continuing from small to big within my project. Also, since Inside Outside focus on making the effect of the interaction between the inside and outside by allowing more natural lights into the building, I also create these transparent motif and let as many lights to get into the bookstore.

STUDENT UNION
The student union is the place where students can get food and snack from the food court. The first floor has a lot of chairs and tables for students to use, while on the second floor, there has a ballroom and more lounging seating area. The second floor seating area gives a feeling of more relaxing because it have mostly couches and the area itself has a more quiet environment.
On this location of the second floor in the student union, light is coming from the big windows on the top near the ceiling and the right side of the building.

HOUSE OF RITUALS TRANSLATION 1 CAPTURE THE ACTION: SPINNING A PEN The action of spinning a pen was recorded and analyzed through serial photography and notation drawings. Then, use the set of notation drawings to construct a 3D object through a series of lines, which was demonstrated in the model that was made out of wood sticks and wood spacers and created this twirling effect model.

Base on this part of translation, the project "House of Rituals" was designed. It is a house which a person can enjoy a wonderful view of the ocean on top of a mountain and a peaceful day when he or she is tired from the outside pressure. The house was separated distantly into three distinct spaces for the user to enjoy privacy in each area. The concept throughout the whole project was using the term of "expansion and contraction" to emphasize the design of expansion views within three distinct spaces.

DINING BY DESIGN SITE ANALYSIS LOCATION: SJSU STUDENT UNION
First Floor has more foot traffic and noise compare to second floor since there are more furnitures on the first floor, there are less people on the second floor. The intention for the projects is to create a comfortable and relax environment, therefore second floor would be more suitable for the project location. A small space can be added to the second floor for users to get a more special experience.
STAGE 1
STAGE 2
CONCEPT A space that attracts and draws people into the comfortable and relax environment inspired by the japanese style room. A tatami table is being integrated into the space that creates a cozy feeling and a convenient way to use the space. The tatami table within the space can pull up or down so the users can use it whenever they want for dining, and it can also creates a bigger space for interaction when they are not using the table. Also, LED lights are integrated into the space to enhance the user experience and makes the space cool.

SHIPPING CONTAINER Starting with a challenging 8' x 20' size of shipping container, the design task is to transform it into a workspace and a living space. By stacking them vertically, two spaces are being separated and designed functionally while sharing the same property.
