Y U G A A N K ‘ FA R I G H ’ ARCHITECTURE STUDENT PROFILE

For me, like every work of literature has some emotion and feeling behind it, in a similar way, every space has certain emotion(s) that can affect a person’s mind and behavior. Just like my poetry, I try to keep my designs as simple as possible , because for me a simple space can have more influence on a person’s mind, and it leaves a scope of change according to the preferences of client for future use. Being a person interested more towards literature, a space you visit and experience leaves an everlasting impact on ur mind just like a poetry leaves and everlasting impact on the person who reads it even after it is not there, since nothing is everlasting unlike the memories and emotions associated to it. MIXED-USE HIGH RISE Barakhamba Road , New Delhi

The project given was to design a mixed used high rise building for a site at junction of Barakhamba Road, Mandi House a major commercial hub of Delhi with many other highrise office buildings, near Connaught Place which act as a commercial hub as well as an all time active activity area. Because of huge working population and being near connaught place , this area has a huge traffic load and remains congusted nearly throughout the day. The building is being designed in such a way that it minimizes solar radiation and maximizes natural ventilation. The ground floor have its priphery full of trees and the in between spaces also have greens in order to keep the ground cooler in the hot climate in Delhi.

STAGE 3

STAGE 4

In the above four design development stages shown, heirarchy and steeping up spaces as a concept has been maintained. The form of the building has been developed in such a way that it is ventured down towards the convergennce to open up the masses for better perspectives from both inside and outside, giving a sense of openess and providing vies from maximum spaces on the building. Since, Connaught Place is the commercial hub of Delhi attracting a huge crowd from all over Delhi, 5 floors f retail has been designed in order to maximise the econmic benefits ( making building self sustainable in terms of econmy ).

IN BETWEEN INTERVENTION Pragati Maidan , New Delhi

To design an in-between intervention at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This aims to serve as a break space from the surroundings and happenings in daily life. Surrounded by Exhibition Halls, the site has a huge tree in one corner.

CONCEPT Pragati Maidan is an active space. With a lots of activities going around, one looks for a place to rest and take a break. The main here was to design a Canopy with seating areas around these standing structures made out od concrete and stainless steel with greens all around then to give a natural look and provide a shaded path for the pedestrians.

R V E R I

The positive site attribute of the site was that the view of temple and river bank also the view of market area , but the main drawback was that it was only open from front and all the other 3 sides were enclosed by other old buildings surrounding the given site.

RESIDENCE DESIGN Pa t el N a g ar , N e w Delhi

The aim of this design exercise was to design a residence building for a small family of three people in Patel Nagar , New Delhi. Raima , a school going girl in 9th standard , her mother working for United Nations Organisation, who is mostly out of India , comes home once in 2-3 weeks and the owner of the house , Raima’s father, a basketball player in past , now runs a kitchen servive from home for an online food delivery service , has a limp in is leg which makes it difficult for him to move up and down the stairs and at last Raima’s grandmother, an old woman, who comes home occasionally to meet them. Because of the kitchen service , A huge Kitchen was a major requirement of design breif along with more of resing spaces through out the house because of Raima’s Father and her grandmother being the major users of the house , since raima being a school student remains very less at home.

The underbridge is surrounded by jhuggi jhopdis, Satarkta Bhawan, residennal apartments, shops and a flyover. The bridge is on top of a drain which makes it smelly and unhygenic. Thus inspite of being highly traversed,it is ignored immensely and is a LIMINAL space.

DESIGN EVOLUTION

COLOR PHYSCOLOGY

Planer fins could meet the requirement but they completely blocked thus giving a compact feeling.

Every colour elicits a different and unique emooonal response in the viewer. Color is a powerful communicaaon tool and can be used to signal accon, influence mood, and even influence physiological reaccons.

Use of LIGHTS IN CEILING would enable to counter this problem.

Planer fines turned to hollow cubes to give a feeling of depth and were kept hollow but it did not serve the purpose as it did not contribute to visual blockage.

RED

-Gentle -Warmth -Comfort -Energy -Excitement -Life

The height of the walk over bridge is less but due to the large width, the volume increases thus one does not feel claustrophobic. We need to block the view of the drain but NOT REDUCE THE VOLUME available

This unit was created as it creates visual blockage and air filteraaon pads were fixed to prevent foul smells.but the unit may become place of waste accumulaaon.

ORANGE

-Happy -Energeec -Excitement -Enthusiasm -Sophisscaaon -SSmulaaon

YELLOW

-Happiness -Laughter -Cheery -Warmth -Oppmism -AAennon-geeng

There is NO LIGHTING inside the bridge making it non usable during the night .Also due to large area being under the flyover, the middle of the bridge is not lighted at all.

The bridge had a constant smell of the drain so to get rid of it ,we introduced elements to curb the path of SMELL so that very less or no smell comes to the bridge.

This final block provides visual blockage, depth of space, foul smell blockage and no accumulaaon of waste.

There was a view of the drain which made the bridge unpleasing. We had to introduce some element to BLOCK THE VIEW OF THE DRAIN .

COLOURED UNITS TO BREAK THE MONOTONY, PROVIDE FOCUS AND CONTRAST.

INSTALLATIONS MACRAME HAND WOOVEN INSTALLATION This Installation was made for the annual college fest (UTOPIA) 2017, under the installation making society (SPAkriti). The theme for the fest was ‘JIT BOHEMSKY’. The material for the installation was decided as thicker threads keeping it mind that it reflects the bohemian nature. The medium adopted for making the installation was Macrame weaving. This installation involved certain amount of patience to sit/stand weave intricate patterns using thick threads. This installation was an output of 3 days of continous weaving , 1214 hours each day , along with help of two other batchmates of mine ; Kajal Aggarwal and Anandita Kaur. There were 3 panels of 10 feet by 4 feet and 3 panels of 3 feet by 4 feet.

ORIGAMI INSTALLATIONS These 3 Origami Installations were also made for college fest. The installation in picture on right was made for UTOPIA 2017 , each cube was of size 2 ft by 2 ft. This installation was inspired by Krishna’s Hand showing how he creates a balance of peace. The installations in pictures at the bottom of the page are made for MINI-UTOPIA 2016 , each of them being 2.5 ft to 3 ft in height. Captain America and Minion are made keeping in mind the theme that was based memories of childhood. 35
