Elements I don’t know how I got here But it feels true for sure! I’m twenty and one When I say THIS IS ME now 5 feet and one inch, My thoughts Wandering like the wind , Unpredictable like fire. Anomalous like water, Perennially striving To balance like a scale, Persistently mutating like the earth.

Center for Earth Architecture
01
Studio
: 7th semester
Location
: Infantry road, Bangalore
Instructors : Suman Paul | Abhinaya Gnana | Salila Vanka | Deepak Ramadasan | Located in the CBD of Bangalore, the Center is a space for the public to reconnect with the earth. The natural slope of the site was used as a site force for the design. The larger Idea being the path space relationship from the Arrival to the Destination. The Program includes permanent and temporary exhibit spaces, workshops, and a cafe.

BRIEF The studio called for an exploration and reinterpretation of the concept of “vernacular-ism” in designing a public building. One had to develop a design program that responds to the geographical, and ecological conditions in and around their site.

Landscape
CONCEPT The red loamy soil which is found on site is used to make C.S.E.B. These Blocks which are made by the people of Bangalore as a part of the workshop would later be used in the Major Project. Over a hundred figure ground diagrams were explored and shortlisted. The shortlisted ones were analyzed based on factors such as site context, site forces, point of arrival, axis, circulation and hierarchy. A part of the depression left behind due to the earth dug up to procure the material will act as a ground water recharge pit.

The Plinths are at 3 different levels along the slope of the site.
The walls are primarily placed such that one always has visual axis to the landscape release.

Mysore and its surroundings are well known for their silk fabric and Channapattana toys. The School of Design, an applied arts school, aspires to engage with these traditional crafts and give them a contemporary dimension. This not only keeps a tradition alive but also helps to reach a new age population, giving the crafts a new life. The School of Design will offer four-year under-graduate programme in three departments namely, Product design, Textile design and Visual Communication and Strategic Branding, under Mysore University.

To promote and educate the public the workshops are close to the public edge. Connects on top act as exits for the public and a direct entrance into the workshops for the students. Making use of the contours on-site, earth berms are used as one of the means of blending the built with the site. The earth berms are provided on the western facade of the road edge.

As the Client spends a Majority of his time working, the workspace is the largest area which opens out into the existing garden space as well leads to the basement car parking below. The vertical wooden Battens separate the workspace from the waiting area. As the idea of using diffused light was a major element in the client’s movies, Louvre openings are used as well as cove lighting which can change colour temperature. Red is used as an accent colour with the help of Lakha Red Granite. The red stone is used for flooring as well as the tread for staircases. The furniture also has accents of red either on the backrest or the seating cushion. The client’s work is used to bring in red as an accent as well.

Competition : The Container Studio by Archdais - 2021 Location
: Baner Road, Pune
Collaborators : Sehaj Pannu | Weniz Wills | Simple rectilinear form
Form divided into elements
Using the subtracted elements for the pavilion , separating the private from the public
Trans-formative containers used to create interactive spaces
PLUG - IN A SPACE WHERE CREATORS COME TO PLUG IN The vibrant and playful structure is inspired by Piet Mondrian’s Composition with red, blue, and yellow where the composition is reduced to the simplest of rectilinear forms, squares and rectangles defined by vertical and horizontal elements. The interactive pavilion strikes a dialogue with its surroundings acting as a waiting space for commuters and a space for designers to exhibit their works. The play of volumes in the café on the ground floor facilitates the interaction between designers and the public. The private co-working spaces for architects have open floors plans fostering collaborative works. Sleeping pods and other recreational spaces are provided which cater to the 24x7 lifestyle of an architect

VERTICAL CONTAINER VILLAGE Dharavi is informal township, it is a vibrant mosaic of small businesses and craftsmen. Yet, there is a lack of basic facilities like housing, water, sewage and others. The Proposed prototype high rise complex provides for affordable residential units along with organized workshop spaces for learning and community activities. The Design is modular, standardized and prefabricated. Two shipping

Residential Units
Cranes are used to lift and place the modular prefabricated units. A Typical module (a commune) would consist of 10 containers vertically stacked over each other followed by a structural slab. The sky lobbies would become the ‘vertical’ street corners (chowks of Mumbai) which have neighborhood stores, day care centers, vocational training units etc..The sky lobbies would become the ‘vertical’ street corners (chowks of Mumbai) which have neighborhood stores, day care centers, vocational training units etc. 34
Stacked Units
containers stacked together make one residential unit, which includes ,a living space ,a working space and a green space. This forms a small self-sufficient ecosystem for one family. Such residential units put together make a commune, keeping the essence of Dharavi’s community living intact. Each commune acts as a typical module. Similar modules can be stacked, for future vertical expansion.

The structure is made up of concrete floors and columns with a split central core consisting of fire towers and lift shafts. The slab comes every fifth floor in the residential zone. The intermediate floors are accessed by a lightweight steel staircase. This also reduces the energy consumption since all floors are not accessed by lifts.

Describing a space in RVCA Campus
The Four Towers I was a fort made of mud Then I became stronger with stone Within me resided people From all walks of life. I had fours towers placed around To mark my future growth Then came the British They fought-on grounds which is a market now. Coexist is what they did But demarcated the two twin cities With a large park in between Which is a Sunday outing for people now. Shot on: Canon EOS1100D | Aperture: f/1.8 | Exposure time: 1/100sec | Focal length: 4.4mm |
The bungalows had courtyards Like the vernacular houses With continuous Verandas around. Some being converted to museums now. Then came the time to take a stand The megalithic monument Made of my stone, With 5000 hands Now a second home to elected members. Today I have grown far beyond The 4 four towers Dynamic in nature one can say A place for people to stay.
