Behind the

Curve Yulia Tkachenko

Design Strategy Statement Behind the Curve Looking through fashion magazines & tv shows, it feels like there is only one type of women in the world: white, skinny, tall. Being a bit bigger & shorter than a girl ‘should’ be, I always felt deprived & restricted. Today I want to change modern beauty standards, I want bigger, I want darker, I want different. To create a difference with my collection, I focused on the beautiful curvy body, on its special anatomical features, smooth lines. My goal was to create a perfect outer skin, not hide any of the curvy parts or even show more than expected. To complete my task, I used frank silhouettes & a mix of translucent nets. Except nets, to create soft autumn / winter garments, I used thick knitted woollen fabric, tender fleece &, to inflame the perfect look, soft sliding sateen. In spite of the exciting shapes, my colour palette stays conservative: four shades of grey, from light pre-rain sky to cold & darker grey stones soaked by the sea. My girl is a daredevil. She is brave enough to be herself, to be different from the majority who sometimes kill themselves to reach ‘perfection’. She is staying true & natural, she accepts her specialities, she accepts & feels in love with her body & mind. She is beautiful.

Kimberly Lonte, 29 San Francisco, USA Married Bookshop owner 35 000 $ per year My lady is young, self-confident & a happily married person. Kimberly knows the things she adores & things which doesn’t work for her, she knows her strong sides & a few weak places and she never attributes her curved body there! My girl has a bigger size than models from fashion magazines & catwalks, and it never stopped her from buying & wearing clothes she likes, posing in her swimsuit on vacation and fully enjoying her life! There are a few things that make Kimberly enjoy every moment of her life. Kimberly always loved books, books from all genres & all authors but one book always in her bag - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, the book which makes her cry again & again. On the other hand, fashion magazines with new diets & skinny models on the cover make her laugh hysterically, Kimberly created a name for fashion editors - ‘evil kingdom’ which spreads negative modern standards of the human body. Speaking of fashion, Kimberly never follows the trends, she`s got her personal, unique style with simple shapes, natural colours & perceptible details. My lady`s favorite colours are white, grey & red, Kimberly loves to make a mix of three colours or wear total outfits based on shades of one of these colours.
