I Meta!Blast Game User Interface Design
Meta!Blast is an educational computer game sponsored by National Institute of Health(USA). It aimes to assist high school and college students in learning cell biology in an entertaining way. Analyzing user feedback through usability studies, I am responsible from creating wireframes to designing final user interface elements include menus, in-game screens, icons, buttons, and sliders...etc.

In purpose of adding more entertaining elements to the
game, objectives and achievement layout with icons are designed from scratch. Final layout decision are selected due to better visibility and less required source.
The design concept behind main HUD is to provide a better
feeling of cockpit. Allowing player getting more under control to the shuttle and game environment.
After main HUD is designed, patcher for updating the game is also asked to be finished based on the theme and style of overall user interface.
Touchscreen Version Touchscreen version of Meta!Blast is developed in the meantime. Player can learn cell biology similar to images they seen through microscope or textbook.
II Thermostat Freescale Sponsored HVAC Project
Project Background As a global semiconductor company, Freescale cooperate with Iowa State University on this research and design project related to Smart Appliances. For the purpose of this project “Smart Appliances” are characterized by two traits. First, they have an advanced HMI (human-machine interface) that might likely use a color touch screen controller. And second, they are connected in some way to the Internet or to the remote user.
Freescale’s goals for this project Freescale wishes to provide value to our appliance customers by offering them: .End user research related to smart appliances .Potential design ideas that embody the end user research .Example GUI for the HMI .Example remote connectivity for the appliance .Sample SW code for smart appliances running on Freescale processors .Allowing customers to participate directly in this program in order to .

Market Segmentation(Demographic)
Contextual Inquiries
Single Adults - Young, single adults were targeted because they are the ones creating trends and they represent a large population of touch screen users. They are growing up with the technology and are most likely to keep using it.
“I would like to program the system once and then forget about it.”
Young Families - This demographic uses touchscreens, but they also represent a group that may be looking to build their own home with a brand new HVAC system. They have money to spend and want to keep a modern household.
“I don’t want my system settings or controls being messed with.”
Retired Adults - Retirees were selected to gain information relating to their limited touchscreen use. They are at home more then most other demographics, and might have potential to overcome the technology learning curve.
“I want to be able to program my thermostat but also adjust temperature easily as needed.”
“Service isn’t common knowledge, so getting help from the system would be valuable.” “I would like to access my system information, settings, and controls from any internet connected device anywhere.”
“The only incentive to buy a new system or thermostat is if it saves me more money.”

Interface Design
In user interface, intuitive design is the main criteria. Therefore, minimizing control bottons that require as less action as possible from user is pursued. Moreover, the touch-sensitive buttons provides a cleaner look for the design as whole. However, it is programmable that user can set up a time they want to brew a cup of tea in a certain time of a day. This makes Tè a even more convenient product for consumers.
