01. Confluence Urban Design at Tianhe Coach Terminal Area

Academic Urban Design Date 03/201906/2019

Group Work: Jiao Yunshan Leader Survey Analysis Design Xue Meiqi Zhang Jiashan Huang Yue Qi Fang Shan Shihan

Individually Redesigned for the Portfolio

Tianhe Coach Terminal and its surrounding areas are located at the junction of science and technology centre and education centre, and have superior conditions for the development of scientific research industry. However, the region is divided by express-ways, the traffic organization is chaotic and inefficient, the function of the plot is complex, the urban landscape is disordered, and the campus boundary is narrow and fragmented. Therefore, from the perspective of urban design, this design combs the problems comprehensively, proposes upgrading and renovation scheme around the passenger terminal hub building, proposes the overall framework for the future development of the region, and optimizes and renovates the region from the perspective of function, space, transportation and landscape. This design is mainly divided into three aspects: 1. Optimizing urban functions and stimulating regional vitality: The land value in this area is increasing day by day, but the original land use does not match the increasing land value. Therefore, the design will optimize the land use of the region, introduce a better industrial system and urban functions, transforming the current region which lacks of order and quality to an attractive and dynamic urban space environment. 2. Combing the Regional Structure and Optimizing Regional Transportation: The existing transportation system has insufficient links to different regions and lacks links among regions. The design combs the whole traffic in an all-round way so as to make each region more closely linked. 3. Improve the quality of space and create a unique environment: The commercial facilities and parks in this area are scattered and inconvenient to connect so that lacking of utilization. The design hopes to enhance the accessibility and publicity of urban public space (streets, squares, parks), and shape a high-quality regional landscape environment.

02. Waterfront Revitalization Urban Design at Julong Village Area

Academic Urban Design Date 03/201806/2018

Group Work: Jiao Yunshan Survey Analysis Design Xue Meiqi He Xinran Fu Yuting Cai Ziyu

Individually Redesigned for the Portfolio

The site is located nearby Julong Village. There are industrial culture, bonsai culture, residential cultural industry and architecture in the area which are steeped in history. To the north is the CBD, and to the south is the central enterprise gathering area . Near the Pearl River in the east is the third node of the whole Pearl River Tour Line: wharf culture note. In addition, it has rich river resources. However, there are many dilapidated and abandoned old factories and villages in the area, some cultures are disappearing gradually, and the waterfront landscape is disconnected and monotonous. Therefore, this design focuses on the waterfront area, upgrades the original landscape and traffic system, and sets corresponding building functions at different nodes to respond to various cultures in the site. What’s more, it involves the hope to meet the tourism needs in the government's planning, and at the same time, it provides various types of public space that are currently relatively lacking for local residents. Since the waterside road is too narrow, in order to meet the demand of landscape improvement, the original lane is transferred to the other side of the building, while the waterside is designed as a pure pedestrian road. In order to reduce the traffic time, a complete bicycle lane system connecting the Pearl River and the stream is set up. This design is divided into two parts: 1. Julong Village Area: This area makes full use of local resources and mainly displays the folk house culture, industrial culture and bonsai culture, and provides tourism, exhibition, accommodation, business conference and other functions through the transformation and reconstruction of the original building, as well as the redesign of public space. 2. Pearl River Waterfront Area: All buildings are public buildings to ensure the publicity of riverside space, so that everyone can enjoy the riverside scenery. At the same time, some commercial spaces are set up to meet the needs of tourists. An ecological wetland is set up at the river entrance to retain sediment and reduce environmental pollution.

Site Analysis

Present Stream Section

The site is adjacent to the Pearl River and has a stream in the middle. There are many valuable historical buildings. It is a node in the cultural tourism line from north to south along the Pearl River. The famous bonsai culture there has lasted for hundreds of years. Besides, it has good public transportation. Thus, great tourism potential lies there. But the road system needs to be ameliorated, and the waterfront landscape needs to be improved urgently.

03. Fluid Space Architectural Design at University Town

Academic Architecture Design

Individual

Date 05/201706/2017

The museum is located in the centre of the University Town Island, adjacent to the Central Lake Park with beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. The main crowd of the site is the surrounding college students, and other types of people are relatively few. Therefore, the design takes college students as the main service object, selects several kinds of specialties suitable for exhibition, and gives exhibition space correspondingly. Because of the beautiful scenery of the site, a number of outdoor platforms are set up in the museum, which is convenient for tourists to rest and view. The flow line of the whole tour is very flexible. Visitors can choose a pure indoor route or an alternative indoor and outdoor tour route.

04. Living Room Community Center at Gounanxu Village

Academic Architecture Design Individual Date 04/201705/2017 Research with Li Zixuan

The site is located at Gounanxu village, a famous historic building village which is well preserved in Chaoshan area. The main scenery is the ancient village and canola flower fields. The main population in the village is the elderly and children, and the young and middle-aged people often go out to work. The main public place in the village is only ancestral halls, so it requires more entertainment places. Dragon boat races are held every May which Is a major project of visiting. Besides, Chaoshan area has many characteristic cultures, like gold lacquer wood carving, inlay porcelain, Kung Fu Tea and Guangdong Opera. The government hopes to develop the local tourism industry. Therefore, the design hopes to provide a building complex mainly for tourists. Explaining the local culture to the tourists and let them try to make crafts by themselves. The design is based on the original tourist center for reconstruction and expansion.
