LUMINOSITY
FULID LUMINISITY ARCHITECTURE LIGHTING OF ZAHA HADID
LINGUISTIC DEFINITION:
The linguistic definition of Luminosity, which means something this is luminous. It also means someone who is intellectually brilliant, enlightened, inspired, etc. In it astronomical term is used to measure of the radiant power emitted by a star, and describe the brightness or colors of stars. However, in architecture we can understand at luminosity as being illuminated through the presence of light. PHILOSOPHICAL DEFINITION: After further deeply investigation. The definition of Luminosity in philosophical meaning which relates to illumination. This idea comes from a theory from Plato of “Divine illumination” which in layman’s is that light bulb moment. Plato along with many other thinkers of the time referred to this spark of we as human require assistance from an external source such as a God, nature, etc. When completing cognitive tasks. The theory is quite often looked at in a religious regard, suggesting the inspiration comes from God. However, the theory can be looked upon in a way that is not religious and seen as the inspiration coming from other sources. Though reading the articles, “Fluid Luminosity: The Architectural Lighting of Zaha Hadid” you can find out that her projects are remarkable not only for her innovative way of using tangible materials but also for imagination regarding the medium of light. In she many of her works were contain the understanding of “Luminosity”.

In the interior, the light gaps between the wall and ceiling deconstruct conventional building structures as well. However, the use of light through windows and luminaries provides diffused light almost softening the sharp concrete edges inside and out. After Zaha began designing with very different forms from the sharp edges seen in the Vitra Fire Station. More fluid designs featuring curvaceous edges and free flowing forms became her style, and these fluid forms continued with her later works. The Vitra Fire Station is her one of earlier work, she used many straight, sharp lines in the form of the building, in order to achieve the deconstructive lines of light. Light lines in the ceiling, or between wall and ground or between the wall and the flying roof reinforce the linear architecture with sharp edges. In the Museum of XXI Century Arts, Zaha plays with “Enhancing the Fluidity With Daylight and Lighting”. While Hadid generally applied her virtuous flowing forms mainly to the exterior of buildings, the interior of the MAXXI, it surpassed the spatial energy of its façade. She developed a characteristic feeling of unison between fluid forms, daylight, and lighting at the Italian Museum. Linear louvers follow the conceptual grid and filter the sunlight—ensuring a soft light for the structural curves. Electrical lighting is concealed wherever possible. The black stairways create an intense contrast with their white luminous underside. Diffuse light flows through the building and builds a calm counterpoint to the dynamic lines and the black and white material contrast. With these building Zaha begins using lighting in a way that further emphasizes her curvaceous designs while also being concealed within the design where possible. Luminosity in architecture can be used in many different of ways as Zaha did. However, all of these ways provide the same outcome; the emphasis and contrast of the form of the building by the manipulation of natural light through windows and cut outs or through luminaires, in a other word, we have to know the relationship between the lights and architectures. The presence of light is the key factor with in many of Zaha’s works, but this doesn’t mean the light is dominant. Just like her earlier buildings used snippets of light whereas her later buildings have moved in to being luminous, which means the relationship between luminosity and spatial fluidity is an important part of Zaha Hadid’s later work.

Also the shape will have a flow of light which under the light. The shape of irregular polygon more unique than square or rectangle. Then the light created by the triangle glass can give a stereoscopic feeling. At last the glass is the most common building material in the worldwide, light can easy travel through the glass to the internal of the building, so we can also call it the Journey of light.

REFLECTION “ The randonmness of the curves are design to catch the light --- Frank Gehtry on the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Set on the edge of the Nervion River in Bilbao, Spain, the Guggenheim Museum is a fusion of complex, swirling forms and captivating materiality that responds to an intricate program and an industrial urban context. Gehry has also creatively used the waterfront setting. Building out over the water and using a combination of water filled pools and the river itself, he clouds the boundaries of both, again finding a flow between building and site. But it is more complicated than that, for form some viewpoint inside, the water feels like a protective moat, adding yet another layer of perception. The towing glass sheathing of the central atrium achieves a parallel result, integrating interior and exterior, while the space provides the fulcrum for the surrounding galleries, the stem from which the petals grow. Moreover, the smooth metal surfaces reflect nearby objects, creating an external feature with special textures. With the sparkling light qualities of the titanium sheets and its changing appearance, Gehry has not only brought a dynamic composition of forms to Bilbao but reinforced his design with a distinctive image which varies with every cloud and sunbeam. Therefore, the reflective faced of architecture not only can change the texture of modern architecture, but also improve the whole sense of the building. In other hand, it has some controversies. In short, how to reduce negative problems while achieving results has become a key question for architects who used or want to use reflection through thedesign.

PHILOSOPHICAL DEFINITION:
LINGUISTIC DEFINTION: 1. The act of reflecting of the state of being reflected. 2.Something reflected or the image so produced, as by a mirror. 3.Careful or long consideration or thought. 4.Implicit or explicit attribution of discredit or blame ---- Collins English Dictionary
The reflection is a natural phenomenon in the field of biotical and its main manifest is that the body’s regular response to internal and external environmental stimuli. In physical’s field reflection of light happens when the waves meet a surface or other boundary that doesn’t not absorb the energy of the radiation and bounces the waves away from the surface. These two field are very different things. In the field of architecture, refection changes the light distribution in the space in front of and behind the wall, glass, also the mirror. Therefore, many architects consciously apply light reflection to architectural design. Though the use of light reflection, the architecture will have incredible beautiful texture.

Opacity LINGUISTIC DEFINATION: 1.Opacity is the quality of being difficult to see through. 2.If you refer to something’s opacity, you mean that it is difficult to understand. ---- Collins English Dictionary
Toshiko Mori--Extension
PHILOSOPHICAL DEFINATION: The opacity was first recorded from Latin word in 1550-60, it was mean “darkness, shade and opaque.” Then, the literal sense showed in 1630s, which mean “condition of being impervious to light”. In term, opacity has another definition especially with reflection. When the light run in to the interface between the two substances, in general, some object may be reflected, scattered and the rest will be fired (refraction). When people determine the opacity of an object, the reflection is one of the determinants. The material of an objects is presented by reflection, and opacity is one of the descriptions of objects’ material. So far as, light can penetrate objects, then in human eyes these objects are transparent, if light can not penetrate objects will be defined as opaque.
Toshiko Mori is a famous architect from New York, who in 2016 has renovated and extended personal residence that originally designed by famed Modernist architect Marcel Breuer. In this project, Toshiko recreated two glass structure within a glass-enclosed staircase connecting with original existing architecture. The scene of Mori’s work consisted of updates to the home, completed by Breuer in 1952, as well as the addition of a new volume adjacent to it
REPRESENTATION II However, by appreciating its structure, the new addition has giant glass from roof to the ground, including beautiful staircase inside the structure. Particularly, on the faรงade of building, there are some difference between glass side by side. This kind of differentiation mainly representing on the materiality of glass. On the one side, Toshiko Mori gave the faรงade whole transparency to its structure, which would bring enough sunlight coming through the entire staircase, also involved great wild forest scene into the house. Thus, reaching a great balance of human and nature landscape.
Page 29
Nevertheless, to consider the purpose of this building as a personal residence, Toshiko Mori also take privacy into account, the opacity of glass materiality became much lower than another side, which would perform dull polished glass to the outside. By doing this, glass panels of varying transparency define the top floor, which cantilevers out from a plinth-like base that is more opaque. Between both volumes, a geometric staircase enables vertical circulation. When people inside turn on the light at night, these volumes would act like two giant light box, lighting surroundings with soft and warm light. This effect, however can be attributed to the play of opacity, which achieved this architecture and play an important role in giving entire structure life energy and sense of softness.

Filtration
LINGUISTIC DEFINATION: 1.The act of passing a liquid or gas through a piece of equipment in order to remove solid pieces or other substances. 2.The process of using a filter to remove solids from liquids or gasses 3.The act of passing a liquid or gas through a filter. ---- Cambridge Dictionary
Page 30 PHILOSOPHICAL DEFINATION: The word “filtration” firstly appeared in 1375-1425. According record, it was from late Middle English, some people would argue that it is from Latin. However, in early 15c, from old French filtre and directly from Medieval Latin filtrum “felt,” which was used to strain impurities from liquid, from West Germanic filtiz see felt. Of cigarettes, from 1908. Additionally, filtration can also be recognized as word “category”. The word comes from the Greek Kategoria meaning “that which can be said, predicated, or publicly declared and asserted, about something.” In Christianity, the bible talks about the “light” god, or the “light of the world.” Even though the sacred light is different from visible light, visible light is most similar to the sky.
Ronchamp Chapel The site of Ronchamp has long been a religious site of pilgrimage that was deeply rooted in Catholic tradition, but after World War II the church wanted a pure space void of extravagant detail and ornate religious figures unlike its predecessors, Ronchamp is deceptively modern such that it does not appear as apart of Corbusier’s aesthetic or even that of the international style, rather sits in the site as a sculptural object. The inability to categorize Ronchamp has made it one of the most important religious buildings of the 20th Century, as well as Corbusier’s career.

Page 31 Each wall becomes illuminated by these differing window frames, which in conjunction with the stark white washed walls gives the walls luminous qualities punctuated by a more intense direct light. On the wall behind the altar in the chapel, the lighting effects create a speckled pattern, almost like a starry night, of sparse openings that are complimented by a larger opening above the cross that emits a flood of lights, creating a powerful religious image as well as a transformative experience.
The church of Saint-Pierre Firminy The scenography at the church of Saint-Pierre at Firminy is arranged in three acts The altar is in the middle of the altar. The altar is an I-shaped white concrete cube, with its shape short legs extending down to a combination of the columns in the upper floor of the ground floor, be able to read, in order to make the relationship clearly on the dais and floor intersect holes on the side of forced through a glass, make the line of sight can penetrate through the floor, and the projection lamp through the lower glass lights dais, the light from the bottom is projected on to a highly volume sensitive altar and it feels as if it were floating. The left side of the altar is a sculpted pulpit, and behind the altar is the parched bench of the priests and the white concrete bishop seat. Not far away from the bishop on the wall of the one with red hair of small niche, namely the Eucharistic recess.
On the broad wall behind the altar is the constellation of Orion, which consists of innumerable small round holes. In the morning, when people look up at the altar, the altar the pulpit and the priests, they are in a dazzling halo. The organic glass that makes up the small round hole refracts the sunlight, projecting a myriad of half-round light trajectories, and the other three curved walls will interpret it as numerous light waves.
