A VOICE FOR NATURE // CONSERVATION CONSERVATORIES In my thesis project I designed a nature reconnection centre and Thames visitor hub, in the wake of urban sprawl into the green belt just beyond the site. Reconnecting people to nature through providing different levels of interaction, and providing a base for conservationists to collaborate and ensure the conscientious development of the area, will subsequently bring people together and encourage long term sustainable behaviour.

+ Osney, Oxford

SAMPLE WORKS

Diagramming 2nd floor planthe concept

Conservatory 1

Section 1 through tea rooms, conservatory 4 and growing room 1.

Section 2 through allotments, conservatory 3, growers common room, conservation teaching room, meadow pod and studio 1.

SECRET GARDEN // OSNEY WORKSHOP - VISUALISATIONS

Facade study in plan, section and elevation. Originally at scale 1:20. This south facing facade needs some solar shading due to the openness of the site. Perforated wooden panels allow light to reach the plants while creating a comfortable environment. Year round growing means that plants also partially shade the interior. I mainly used locally sourced timber and CLT, as the construction technique suits the requirements of my site, and as I believe that timber is a more sustainable material to produce and transport.

SAMPLE WORKS

+ Lephepane, Limpopo

PROJECT MYEMYELA // SOUTH AFRICA PROJECT The South Africa Project is a live project run each year by a second year unit. The brief was to design, fundraise for, and build a daycare centre in Lephepane, Limpopo, for ages 6 months to 5 years. This project gave me a good understanding of the logistics and parameters of real life architecture and construction, and the feasibility of specific design decisions. Throughout the project, we had to work as a team, from design to event organising to manual labour. Key considerations • • • • • • •

Environmental Control Buildability Cost Context awareness (security, social) Maintenance and operation (no plumbing or electricity) flexible spaces and programme suitability. Material sourcing

BACK TO CONSTRUCTIVISM // FOUNDATION YEAR STUDIOS - EXPLODED SEGMENT

I like to use 3D modelling in all stages of design, from conceptual work to structure. Here are examples of use of Sketch-up, Revit and hand modelling.

A VOICE FOR NATURE // CONSERVATION CONSERVATORIES - STRUCTURAL STUDY

Exploring different solutions for my design on flood prone site including a sacraficial basement, sheet-piling, floating structure, retaining walls, and stilts.

SECRET GARDEN // OSNEY WORKSHOP

Samples of hand modelling throughout the design process. I like to use models to visualise layouts, circulation and light manipulation.
