[ The Boy Behind This Book ] He is Muhammad Yusuf Fachrudin, a boy whose name derived from the latest pharaoh in Islamic Religion and one of the most handsome pharaoh. Born in Jakarta May 5th 1995, he is very interested in art and games. Since he was very young, he always draw stickman and imagines that drawing to be alive. His first character drawing was Goku, from anime “Dragon Ball�. One of his cousins taught him how to draw it. He is the first child in his family and has one little sister and little brother. He had accident when he was in kindergarten, but it will not let he down. Because he knows, he have parents who will always support him with everything they have, when there is no one who will do that for him. He is currently a student in President University majoring in Visual Communication Design. His curiosity in designs and arts motivated him to be a great designer.

SHADES Objective

To create an unique 2-dimensional patterns using monochrome color.

Challenge

The art should consist of 10 shades of grey.

Solution

I started by decided where is the black color first. Then start with the light grey.

BATIK Objective

Draw a pattern from original Indonesian Batik.

Challenge

There are a lot of Batik patterns in Indonesia, I should make good combinations about Batik patterns. The most important part was coloring process.

Solution

I did research on the internet about Indonesian Batik patterns. And ended myself with some moderns Batik patterns. I had to to do coloring process very careful.

COLOR THEORY Objective

Make a good combination color and shape from a rectangle paper.

Challenge

The important part was the harmonization between colors. And I should make sure that the shape itself was unique and differents from the others.

Solution

I start with split the paper into two pieces. And starting with the shape I already did before, and start to coloring the papers one by one, then combined it.

CAMPINA Objective

To create print ad for our packaging project, Campina.

Challenge

To introduce our new packaging about “the new Campina” ice cream.

Solution

The print ad executed by using the main theme of Campina Ice Cream itself, which is tropical, and mix it with our new packaging.

TURN OFF YOUR PHONE (Team - Social Campaign)

Objective

To engage other people to communicate with each others, instead always looking at their phone, even in family time.

Challenge

To make an efective print ad (poster), so people know the objective of our campaign.

Solution

The print ad made with object and activity that familiar with them, so their minds will connected directly with the poster, and they know the meaning of it.

CUP OF JAVA (Team - Ads for Rebranding)

Objective

To create print ad about our rebranding “A Cup of Java” by Sarinah

Challenge

The biggest challenge is we need to make communicative poster because we had been rebranding the whole “A Cup of Java” and needed to informed people about our new rebranding.

Solution

We add our new tagline to our poster and give promo to the people who will come to our new “A Cup of Java”

CHOPSTICKS Objective

Make a new or redesign packaging for chopsticks.

Challenge

To make a creative packaging design for the new chopsticks packaging.

Solution

The concept of this packaging is “superheroes�, which is very rare for everyone to see chopsticks in superheroes packaging. I made the unique designs and the new way to create packaging for chopsticks.

ICE CREAM STICK VARIANT

CAMPINA Objective

To redesign one of the famous ice cream branding in Indonesia, Campina.

Challenge

Since Campina’s brand already has a great impact and good design layout, the redesign project is more challenging, because its brand already well-known to Indonesian people.

Solution

I created a new concept of packaging which shows Campina in whole different ways, I made changes to some packaging.

New Concept The new concept of packaging for ice cream stick variant is doodling, because the topic for this assignment was “A new way to enjoy the ice cream�. So I made the whole concept for two variant ice cream to doodle.

TYPOGRAPHY


“Typography is the craft of endowing human language with a durable visual form.� Robert Bringhurst


HAIKU Objective

Make a good-looking typography with quotes text (haiku).

Challenge

The biggest challenge in this art is to make a good-looking typography, and make the viewers feel the emotions behind the quotes.

Solution

First I had to find the quotes, and feel what the messages of the quotes, so I made typography looks like a rose.

NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD Objective

Redesign the national identity card of Indonesia.

Challenge

Identity card is very important for the most of people in Indonesia. It has to be able to suit to every people. The design should reflected the Republic of Indonesia itself.

Solution

I made changes to the whole identity card. I made the national identity card just like Europe or United States, which is can be scanned and make some code so it cannot be copied.

DESIGN CULTURE NOW Objective

Create a poster event with almost just texts.

Challenge

Make a poster with almost just texts yet still looks good to see.

Solution

First thing was to determine the concept. I needed to know what is actually Design Culture Now is, and it is the very familiar task for every Insititute of Art or University of Art in United States. So I did research, and found the concept for my own. The color and types are the most important things in here.

BOOK JACKET

(Manusia Setengah Salmon)

Objective

Redesign the old book jacket of Manusia Setengah Salmon by Raditya Dika.

Challenge

Redesign the best sellers book is the main challenge here. Because I need to know what the genre and emotion in this book.

Solution

I read the whole book again to feel the emotion and what the author wants with this book. So I tried to make the book jacket as fun as the book is.
