PROJECT SUMMARY The 3.2 brief aims to investigate a post-covid High-Rise building. In response, I focused my approach on 3 key themes, Innovation, Sustainability, and Community. Prior to 3.2 brief, my previous 3.1 project revolved around designing a Pavilion through parametric architecture, a computationally driven design to create complex forms and geometries. I carried this deep interest in parametric and fluid structures as the basis for my 3.2 High Rise proposal. I studied Norman Foster’s 30 St. Mary Axe Building, or ‘the Gherkin’, as a precedent to incorporate, and reinforce further theory towards a sustainable and environmentally driven design. The application of the innovation and sustainability from the Gherkin study further developed my 3.2 High Rise proposal to understand how to offset embodied and operation carbon in line with RIBA sustainable outcomes and climate positive initiatives. Furthermore, I integrated a smart passive ventilation system that enables natural air circulation throughout the building to minimise the use of mechanical ventilations, as a response to a post-pandemic workplace. Lastly, Landscaping also became an integral focus of my project to encourage a ‘break from the office’ and revitalisation of the area. The landscaping design aims to promote and improve well-being, productivity, and encourage social cohesion.
