NEW AND UPCOMING RENEE MELOCHE is the author of the Heroes for Young Readers series, written to inspire children to dream big, stand tall for God, and be a hero. A graduate of YWAM’s School of Creative Ministries, Renee has worked as a missionary overseas. She served aboard the mercy ship, the Anastasis, where she first dreamed of writing true stories that would encourage children to discover the wonder and joy that awaits them when they live their lives for God. Don’t miss the exciting new biography of Nick Vujicic available in English and Spanish. This is the latest addition to the growing Young Readers series. Also keep a lookout for Bethany Hamilton in the coming months. These are true heroes for every young reader.

STORIES CHANGE LIVES While working our book table at a homeschool convention a couple of years ago, I noticed the father of a homeschooling family browsing Heroes titles. He pointed to Gladys Aylward: The Adventure of a Lifetime and quietly commented that he and his wife had adopted their Asian daughter as a result of reading that book. I stood spellbound as he relayed how his birth daughter had first read the book and suggested the idea of adoption to her parents. Eventually, this man and his wife read the book and after prayerful consideration, actually acted on their daughter’s suggestion. Fast-forward to last spring. I was attending the same conference and was silenced yet again as this same family’s daughter brought the adopted daughter to our booth and happily introduced me to the beautiful new member of their family. Stories change lives! Several YWAM Publishing staff members travel extensively during the conference season. They too have heard adoption stories connected to
the reading of Gladys Aylward. When I recently spoke to these staff members about this family’s experience, we realized that the count of Gladys Aylward-related adoptions was now up to five. And that’s just counting those who have taken the time to tell us their stories. With well over 2 million Heroes books in print, we hear these kinds of stories frequently. Each one of them is wonderfully unique, representing how an individual or family has been impacted by the power of story to inspire, convey truth, change a worldview—and lead to action. Whether it’s a title from our Christian Heroes: Then & Now portraying the work of God in the lives of real believers, or from our Heroes of History celebrating great lives allowed to flourish in a nation that values liberty and freedom, or from our illustrated Young Readers with titles drawn from both series—these exciting true stories model the incredible possibilities for you, your family, and the next generation. Stories change lives! WARREN WALSH, Editorial Director

KLAUS-DIETER JOHN (1960–)
It was totally dark. The lights in the city were turned off, and there were no street lamps, no neon signs, and no extra glow in shop windows. Klaus noticed that theirs was the only car on the road. How would they slip by the checkpoint? Klaus glanced at his wife Tina, whose eyes were shut in prayer. Suddenly he heard a thunderous crash, then saw a bright flash of light. Klaus-Dieter John dreamed of becoming a medical missionary in the developing world. He would do whatever it took—study in top universities and practice surgery in remote and dangerous places—to reach his goal of providing health care for people who needed it most. Dr. John’s seemingly impossible vision of Diospi-Suyana, a world-class hospital for impoverished Peruvians deep in the Andes Mountains, was blessed by God. Despite challenges in fund-raising, construction, moving his family from Germany, and countless roadblocks, Klaus’s dream was finally realized, bringing hope in a land loved by God. BILLY GRAHAM (1918–) Billy boarded the train to Minneapolis. He had come to Los Angeles months before as a small-time preacher. Now he was leaving as one of the most recognized Christians in the country. It was not what Billy had sought; he’d just been open for God to use. Billy wondered if this would be the peak of his fame or if something bigger was about to happen.
NEW
The oldest son of dairy farmers from Charlotte, North Carolina, young Billy Graham attended evangelical revival meetings that inspired him for the rest of his life. As an ordained minister, he rose to prominence and would subsequently preach the Christian message to over 200 million people in 185 countries. Graham championed civil rights, befriended US politicians and presidents, and traveled the world to places no one else dared to go. His life and ministry have shaped the spiritual life of America and offer hope for the future—inspiring new generations of leaders willing to serve with courage, integrity, and vision. BEN CARSON (1951–) Ben visited Maranda’s family the night before the young girl’s brain surgery. He spoke to her parents, outlining the risks one last time. “The surgery should take about five hours. There’s a strong likelihood that Maranda could bleed uncontrollably and die. Or she could survive and be paralyzed. There is no way to know what will happen.”
NEW
As a child growing up in Detroit, Ben Carson (1951–) had a dream of becoming a physician, a dream that rose out of struggles with poverty, racism, and poor grades. As Ben persevered and strove for academic excellence, his life became one of compassion and service. Today, Benjamin Carson, MD, is known as the American neurosurgeon with gifted hands. The first surgeon to successfully separate twins joined at the head, he directed pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital for over a quarter of a century. His life continues to be a model of what it means to care deeply, serve brilliantly, and lead courageously. (192 pages) Reg: $8.99 Special: $6.99 #60348
