It is our privilege and honor to present you the 2016 Annual Report of activities for the past fiscal year, from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. It has been a year of transition and transformation for the YWCA South Hampton Roads. First of all, we would like to thank Jay Johnson, Interim Executive Director, for her guidance and leadership during a six-month period of transition. Her dedication to the mission and organization ensured that the “lights stayed on” and the “wheels kept turning.” Her commitment to the staff and her ability to lead them during a busy period was extremely valuable. Thank you, Jay, for your guidance! We are both continually impressed by the outpouring of your support and dedication to the YWCA South Hampton Roads. The services we provide are invaluable and yet our impact in the community is virtually invisible. As most of you know, the health and safety of women and girls is where most of our stories begin. Many come to us seeking shelter in times of danger and distress. Some call us in the middle of the night seeking solace or a safe place to sleep. Some seek our support for counseling services for previous abuse or continued domestic violence. No matter their need, we are here for them. Last year alone, we served more than 3,000 clients in need of services ranging from victim and legal accompaniment to counseling to support groups. We would not be able to help them without you. Your investment continues to enable us to support women and children right here in our community. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our volunteers, donors and friends for your commitment to our organization. We are excited for the year ahead and know that together we can accomplish anything. We are #OnAMission and we invite you to join us! Sincerely,

Mary Kate Andris, Ed.D. President and CEO

Andrea Bear Chair, Board of Directors

YWCA IS ON A MISSION

Dear Friends of the YWCA South Hampton Roads,

MISSION: The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

WHO WE ARE: The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. The YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families and strengthen communities. For over 100 years, the YWCA South Hampton Roads has been at the forefront of most social movements in the United States—from voting rights, to civil rights, to pay equity; from violence prevention to childcare initiatives. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women’s rights. Our mission is connected to over 175 YWCAs in small towns and major cities across the United States, offering leadership opportunities, job training, life skills, support groups, shelters for safety and recovery, wellness resources and other programs focused on empowering women and girls.
