Although the dance studio is mainly used by the dancer only, Ragdale Foundation has always been active in involving the larger neighborhood community and other collaborators in events hosted on the campus. On the event day, not only the studio itself, but also the adjacent space will all be activated. The second floor balcony enables the audience to view the solo performance in the studio, the ball dance in the garden, and the folk dance in the priarie.
INFRASTRUCTURE SPECTACLE: Bring Back the Old Time Fun and Pride of Chicago River
A 10,000 sq. ft shipyard The field house (shipyard) provides non-motorized boating and motorized boat launching services. Visitors and local residents are encouraged to enjoy the Chicago river on their self-made canoes, rented paddling boats, or private cruisers. Hosting hybridized business innovation, the field houses will serve as a recreational center which includes food truck rallies, community product stores, canoe-making shops, and temporary theaters.

SITE PLAN
By exhaustively studying boat types, boat transport, and the process of boat launching, the overall strategy of the building could be conceived. The steel frame structure with a bay size of 25 feet, acting as the “big shoulder, contrasts with the light metal frame of the plug-in modular storage units for small boats (paddling boats, rowing boats, canoes). These rentable recreational boats are withdrawn and deposited by the overhead crane. Yachts are transported to the site by trucks, lifted by the overhead crane, and lowered to the water. Three slipways are provided for self launching at the same time. During winters, in order to facilitate indoor activities, the storage units are transformed into retail booths and the boats become restaurant booths. The stepped form of the storage units are used as the audience seating for movie screening and exhibitions.

Plaza of Autonomous Vision
Overtourism is a contemporary phenomenon concerned by many European ci es, especially Barcelona, where the conflict between residents and tourists has escalated over the years. This project aims to challenge the idea of viewing as merely receiving informa on and propose a visual machine that facilitates purposeful observa on and individual agency in produc on of views. As one of the few open spaces in the city, Plaza de Catalunya offers a 360 degree view, but the view ac vi es are rather unconscious.
A visual ring augmen ng and innova ng social reality
The plaza is conceived as a visual machine consis ng of a field of occupiable cones that each equally frames a por on of the city fabric. When looking through the field, the direc onality of cones simulates the human visual field, while the par al view of the city is in the central vision and mul ple mirror reflec ons of the environment are in the peripheral vision. With strategic altera on (dimensional changes of certain cones), the machine can be adapted to different modes, which results in the mass-produced similar yet varied spaces in the cones. The different spa al quali es and reflec ve quali es are thus selected by users to sa sfy various ac vi es. Therefore, the view of the city is no longer a homogenous panorama, but a public resource, a con nuous progress that involves par cipa on, nego a on, and collabora on.
